Think you have what it takes to be the Next Big Thing?  Got what it takes to be a pop star?  Well, MBC is looking for you with their Star Audition global search, and you can apply regardless of national origin, age, or gender.

Rain’s and BoA’s images appear in MBC’s trailer and advertising, while Se7en, Miss A, Victoria, and other artists lend their voices to the search.  Looks pretty huge, with most of the action happening in Los Angeles and New York… but rest assured, if anything starts popping off at the MBC Studios here in Atlanta, Terri and I will be up in there and getting you aspiring Poppers a scoop.

G.O gives Rain’s Love Story a spin.

I’ve been in love with G.O’s voice for a good while now.  (His cover for Stevie Wonder’s “Lately” made me dang-near pass out, no joke.)  So it’s no surprise to me that he was able to sing Rain hyung‘s “Love Story” so well, when no one else would have half a chance with any song tailored to Rain’s magnificent voice.  Especially this one—Love Story is a HARD song to sing.

This video was just uploaded and I’m not sure when G.O’s appearance on this show happened (has he regrown his mustache? because if not, this was sometime past), but it’s a true delight to be able to watch it.  Thanks for sharing, MBLAQ Latino!

RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 40.

Asia broadcast, November 6.

Remember, when we left off last week, it was with that absolutely darling rendition of “My Girl.”  That was stuck in my mind, so at first, when Rain’s montage interlude played… I couldn’t guess what was coming next.  But then suddenly “Hip Song” started up, and the Man and the Men appeared from behind the staging, all superheroed up.

Mazinga Z! Haha!  (or if you live in the U.S… Tranzor Z!)

And just like that, Rain’s living like Superman.  Woohooo! I think the coolest thing of all is that we actually have Women behind the Man in this Hip Song line up, and the ladies are throwing it down as well as the guys.  Awwwww, yeah. 🙂

Then it’s time for “With You” (from the I’m a Cyborg movie), and gettin’ fresh with “Fresh Woman.”  Driving me crazy… crazy…  You, you, you, you— Oh, what have we here?  JiHoon urging a Man to show out a bit more after that dancer throws a difficult side-flip.  But dude is like, naw, that’s okay, I ain’t pushing my luck.  LOL!

Youch… there are few things as horrific on the ears as mic feedback.  Whoa, clear that up please, sound guys.  Testing, testing.  I mean a man can’t have a nice conversation with his ZEPPers if they’ve been deafened.  (LOL JiHoon keeps counting into the mic in Japanese and doing other clever things, what a ham LOL)

Ah, an emergency sound fix while our Superhero keeps the fans entertained.  And he has to sling that hair around, and keep slinging that hair around because he knows we like it.  Well no, Stephe, you see I was just sweating an awful lot and— Yeah, yeah, save it, JiHoon.  You KNOW WE LIKE IT.  Well… yeah. 😛

And oh noooo!  Just before we’re so rudely cut off, I could swear he was about to » insist on being given some takoyaki (octopus ball), the way he did later at ZEPP Osaka.  Doggone it, RAINY DAY, oh no you didn’t stop us right there? *eye-roll*  *neck-roll*  *triple-pout* What are you trying to do, start a mutiny?

Well, since there is no bar code, was no advanced warning from KBS 2TV, and just the thought of a real Runaway or Fugitive magazine would probably sound silly to the Powers That Be, money-wise (you know how they think, only in $$ spent and $$ earned)—and with Google Translate’s rather painful conversion of the BNT News article…

…my guess is that this is indeed some sort of funny parody.  A sort of If there was a real Fugitive: Plan B magazine, the cover might look something like this.  And it would feature cute articles like these.

Well, in any case, this certainly is a thing of beauty and gorgeous to look upon.  Nice job! 😀

Hey… isn’t that Rain’s main crewman (who has been with him all this time since his earliest JYP days) and 2PM choreographer Park NamYong, with his fine self, talking about Rain?  *remembers NamYong’s hot hair flying around during Love Song choreography* Woah… ♥  It even sounds like the show host names him, and he identifies himself… am I hearing that right?  If I am, why doesn’t the article name him?  He’s not exactly chopped liver, you know.  Sheesh.  Oh, well.

On a programme “Star audition, famous birth!” first aired on the 5th, revealed clips of Jo Kwon, Rain (birth name Jung Ji Hoon), Park Bom and CL and other singer’s audition clips.

First clip was of Jo Kwon. He was 13 at the time and he auditioned through an audition programme on SBS. Representitive who selected Jo Kwon said “Jo Kwon had a lot of talent in not only dancing but also in singing too”

Representitive who selected 2NE1 said “CL sent demo CDs every 3 months, for 4 years continously. She tried to show her improvement and kept working hard. You can’t leave Park Bom out when it comes to effort either. It’s normal to audition at least 10 times” and showed a demo CD from 5 years ago.

Rain also cannot be left out. Rain’s dance choreographer said “When Rain auditioned in front of Park Jin Young, he just danced for 2 hours straight.”

Representitive who selected Big bang said “One of the requirement for being a star is self-esteem as well. Big Bang’s Seungri had a great self-esteem, and even when he was told off, he kept working harder”

Rain nominated for 2010 Golden Disk Awards.

All of the nominees for the 2010 Golden Disk Awards are presently listed on the official GDA website, so go have a look!  Rain appears to have two nominations for “The Song That Will Get You Back,” a.k.a. Love Song, from this year’s Back To The Basic mini-album released in April.  (If you click on “Nominees”, he is on the 2nd list down and also the very last list.)

It’s wonderful to see Kim Jong Kook *scream!*, Bobby Kim, BoA, SHINee, Epik High, Taeyang, PSY, and B2ST in the crowd there, along with a slew of others.

Fans can vote for their favorite celebs on the GDA website until December 6th (it’s 99.9% in Hangeul, so that will prove difficult unless you know the language); we believe these may be specifically tallied for a separate Popularity Vote, seeing as the Golden Disk Awards have in fairness been based solely on album and digital music sales for years.

As we understand it, this prestigious show (Korea’s most prestigious for music, begun in 1986 and nicknamed the Korean Grammys), will take place on December 9th at Koryeo University.

According to the drama production on the 1st, KBS 2TV’s drama series ‘The Fugitive Plan B’ has currently surpassed $ 4 million in exports, as it is well received not only by Korea but by Asian countries such as Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, etc.

The export price is estimated at least more than $200,000 per episode of ‘The Fugitive Plan B’.

The Fugitive: Plan B sees a slight rise in ratings.

And thank goodness for it, whether it had to do with the versatility of the complexion of the drama, JiWoo’s continued layers being revealed, a new appreciation of the excellent writing within, or all three things combined.

Terri and I aren’t watching this solely because we’re fans of Rain (though that would be quite easy to do, considering how easy on the eyes he is)… but because the man truly knows how to craft a character, and the writing is such that we wish we’d written it ourselves.

And that’s saying a LOT.

“The President” remains atop TV charts but sees slight drop in ratings

SBS drama “The President” continued to shine on top of Wednesdays and Thursdays’ prime time ratings charts.

“The President” which follows one woman’s quest to rise to the presidency recorded an average viewership rating of 24.35 percent this week, a slight drop from last week’s 25 percent, according to the data released by Total National Multimedia Statistic (TNms) on Friday.

In this week’s episode the heroine Seo Hye-rim (Ko Hyun-jung) announces that she is quitting her post as a lawmaker after realizing that her election pledge has only been used to promote a reclamation project in Namhae Island that drove the islanders to leave their home.

Her trustworthy friend Prosecutor Ha Do-ya (Kwon Sang-woo) too gets into trouble after falling into a trap set up by politician Cho Bae-ho (Park Geun-hyung).

Meanwhile, statistics by media research company AGB Nielson gave the show an average rating of 27.5 percent.

The second runner, KBS2’s “Fugitive: Plan B,” recorded an average rating of 13.8 percent, a slight gain from the previous 12 percent mark, according to TNmS’ figures. AGB Neilson said the drama scored a mean of 12.4 percent.

The two parties — Ji-woo (Rain) the private detective and Jin-yi (Lee Na-young), and Hwang Mi-jin’s (Yoon Son-ha) gang — compete to find hidden gold which is later discovered in Mt. Geomdan. However Hwang gets shot by her boss for knowing too much and the gold disappears once again.

MBC’s “Home Sweet Home” collected an average rating of 6.5 percent, improving from last week’s 5.2 percent on TNmS’ survey. The drama, which premiered two weeks ago, has seen its ratings gain steadily despite being up against heated competition.

The series starring top Korean actresses Kim Hye-soo and Hwang Shin-hye, showing how trust between a married couple shakes and misunderstandings lead to distrust, yielded an average rating of eight percent this week.

Say “adieu” to 2010 & hello to the New Year 2011, WITH Rain… as we suspected.

[Cloud USA] As we understand it now, thanks to a sister Cloud and top Rain supporter in Asia, Rain’s Adieu to 2010 shows mean just that—goodbye to 2010.

The performances are in celebration of the end of the year, with Rain and his fans ushering out the old year and ringing in the new together (the operative word here is “with”, and the translation does correctly say goodbye WITH Rain, not goodbye “to” Rain).  This is also why both shows are on December 31st, with the first one at 6 pm and the second one at 11:30 pm, very near the stroke of midnight and traditional popping of champagne and traditional New Year kisses and Auld Lang Syne.

Now, we don’t know if this is Rain’s final concert appearance or not, only because his full future schedule and his military reporting date aren’t yet known.  (Poor man.  Every single time he performs from here on out is going to be dubbed HIS FINAL CONCERT BEFORE THE MILITARY, just like the Intensity show was.)

What we do know, however, is that this is not intended to be some official goodbye.  (It doesn’t even say that anywhere on the J.Tune announcement.)  It is along the lines of a New Year’s Eve celebration.

Adieu2010 with Rain: What does that really mean?

[Cloud USA] Hopefully something has simply been lost in the translation again (which can happen quite a bit when the English and Korean languages share the same space… it just can’t be helped).  Adieu2010 with Rain… what does that really mean?

Yes, yes, I see that all across the Internet the stories are saying that J.Tune is confirming by advertising these shows that Rain is saying goodbye to his fans before going away to the military, and that this is his last hoorah until he’s a civilian again in two years (the SAME thing that the media said about the Intensity show in Manila, in fact)… but that’s not how I took it at all.

Honestly, when I first saw the wording “Adieu2010 with Rain”… with “adieu” being French for goodbye, and the shows occurring on the last day of the year (one of them, mind you, on December 31 at 30 minutes before midnight), I thought to myself, Oh, he’s ushering out the old year 2010 and ringing in the new year with a concert.  Like a countdown.  Which makes perfect sense seeing as JiHoon has worked or performed during the Christmas and New Year holidays for many years.  Oh, I thought, Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011, a la Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve and all that other stuff the world over.  Makes sense to me.

At this point, my original thought still makes more sense to me.  It’s November, and The Fugitive: Plan B episodes are still being shot.  Rain announced out of his own mouth at the Fugitive press conference in Seoul, in September, that he’ll be doing a fighter jet movie after the drama is done.  There still needs to be time for that whole thing to be filmed, right?  And a month isn’t going to cut it.

I could be totally off base here, things could have changed, plans could have fallen through, and all the current write-ups could be right.  But I want to make sure of that before we plaster all over Cloud USA that Rain is saying goodbye to everybody.  I only see J.Tune announcing an upcoming concert at the end of the year… come and say Goodbye to 2010 WITH Rain.  I don’t see a CLEAR statement that “Rain is saying farewell for now.”  Please see the notice from Rain’s Official Website, as shown below.

Like I said, translation can be tricky.  I’ve put out feelers overseas for info.  I’ll let you know what the deal is either way, and I hope some of you can make it to the show.

Only Standing B seats in the front of the stage are allotted to our fan club, so you have to purchase tickets individually for other seats.

The ticket sales are open to the public through INTERPARK on November 11th.

[spoilery] Runaway alters scripts in wake of actor accident.

Dramabeans 11/2/2010 —

Runaway’s resident bitchy mastermind Yoon Son-ha (okay, she’s more of a bitchy middle-manager) was recently in a car accident. Initially all sides had asserted that her accident would not affect the drama at all, but the writer-PD duo have decided to write her out of the upcoming scripts because she is not yet able to resume filming.

Yoon’s character, Professor Hwang Mi-jin, doesn’t have a very action-intensive role — unlike, say, leads Rain or Lee Jung-jin, who are forever running, fighting, and flashing their muscles — but it sounds like her accident was pretty serious. Her injury required surgery that drove a metal pin through her leg, between the pelvis and thigh.

MINOR SPOILER: According to the chief producer of the drama, the Mi-jin character will get caught up in a different plotline that takes her out of this main storyline, and her character will leave. He stated that they’ve taken care to keep it within the flow of the story, and added that if her health improves, she will be able to return later on. END SPOILER

Personally, I think this is as good a time as any for her character to be written out. Mi-jin played a somewhat important role through last week’s episodes, but it seemed like she would have naturally faded back anyway as the drama heads into its second half with this week’s episodes.

The Fugitive: Plan B continues filming without actress Yoon Sohn Ha

Actress Yoon Sohn Ha, who had a car accident, will be temporarily dropped from the KBS 2TV drama “The Fugitive: Plan B.”

The chief producer of the drama “The Fugitive: Plan B,” Jeong Hae Ryong said, “By operating ‘Plan B,’ just like the title of the drama, we urgently are modifying the script so that professor Hwang Mi Jin, whom Yoon Sohn Ha plays, will dissappear for a while by engaging in a different case, so there will be no effect on the flow of the drama.” Jeong added, “The subplot has been prepared in advance, so there will be no big changes in developing the storylines; rather, the drama seems to be developing into more exciting stories. We already made the necessary settings for her to come back to the drama as soon as Yoon Sohn Ha recovers her heath.” A spokesperson for Yoon Sohn Ha’s agency said, “The production staff members want her to join filming soon, and Yoon also has a strong will to come back to the drama, so she may participate in filming even though she has to sit in a wheelchair in front of the camera once she is recovered.”

Yoon Sohn Ha had a car accident when her car crashed into a guardrail on October 30, and she had to undergo a surgical operation on her right leg due to a fracture caused by the accident. Her agency said, “The surgery was successfully finished, and she will consider coming back to filming after receiving hospital treatment for about a week.”

Lee Jung Jin visits Yoon Son Ha in the hospital

Recently, it was reported that Fugitive’s Yoon Son Ha was in a car accident needing surgery for her fractured leg. To show support for Yoon, fellow cast member Lee Jung Jin came to the hospital for a visit.

Lee uploaded a picture with Yoon onto his twitter and wrote, ‘I came to see Yoon Ha noona. It’s very fortunate that she had a quick recovery. Despite being in the hospital, she’s still worried about the staff and the drama. I hope she returns quickly.‘

The picture shows Yoon with a hairband and glasses. Even though she had surgery, she appears to be in good spirits and regaining her health.

JiHoon… you are doing an amazing job.  Take it from a Southeastern gal in the Dirty South of the U.S. who has very nearly seen it all, yet is totally entertained by JiWoo’s deeply carved facets.  There is nothing like him over here, either.

What some viewers simply aren’t getting is that it’s not necessarily WHAT JiWoo physically does, but WHY he does it.  Too bad for them.  Bravo!
