When we used to visit Cloud Japan’s official site (which, as many of you recall, was opened by Rain himself and J.Tune, with MBLAQ in tow, at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A in December 2009—yes, he was in the middle of the Legend of Rainism Tour AND promoting Ninja Assassin at the same time, WOW), we used to see this (screenshots below). I never got completely inside because you had to be an official member and, of course, Japanese, but I could tell it was a really nice site. (The name then was J.Tune Camp Rain Japan Official Site, so many people thought it was J.Tune’s personal site instead of the Japanese Clouds’ home.)
(Courtesy of raineyes82 / manloverain)
They had him sing “Three Bears” and do the Moonwalk. ROFL! 🙂
When Rain became a free agent, before military, J.Tune’s name was taken off of the site and RAINY took over, much the same way as it had with the official Korean Cloud site.
Today, when I went over to check on Cloud Japan’s status, all of the above was gone. You see only this notice:
Looks like Jung JiHoon is doing major renovations on the Rain Japan Official Website, after four years.
Good for you, Japanese Cloud sisters. Thumbs up, Rain! 🙂 ^@@^
When Terri found the article below (↓) in a Google Alert this earlier evening, we just cracked up. LOL! Thanks, GP, for giving us a good giggle. Y’all are something else. (Yes, I am the fool who gave them the “restoring the faith” headline. Ouch!) 😛
For anyone who’s curious as to what would set us off like that, the original article (← to your left) began like this. We’d already been through weeks of bottom-feeding South Korean Media lies printed as truth, and misleading crap about Rain being celebrated while updates that cleared the air were blatantly ignored, so when I set eyes on Rain being one of the seven soldiers filmed drinking in a private restaurant the night of June 21 and sentenced to military jail (Yonhap News is the true culprit here), it was just… ON.
The mention of Rain’s scandal with Kim TaeHee earlier this year wasn’t a concern at all, because that’s true. See how that works? ^@@^
But we’re not always perfect, as a recent incident demonstrates. The original version of a wire story from South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency published on our site last week caught the attention of K-pop fans for erroneously suggesting that South Korean pop star Rain, along with other celebrity soldiers, was sentenced to military prison after being caught on camera misbehaving.
Vigilant Rain fans were not happy with the slip — and they let us know:
Korean pop, for those with an unworldly cultural palette, is a global phenom. K-pop has been called “South Korea’s Greatest Export,” while Psy’s “Gangnam Style” became the third most popular single in 2012 in terms of global digital sales.
GlobalPost received dozens of comments as well as tweets and emails from concerned K-pop fans about the story — in fact, it was one of our most-commented stories in recent weeks. Of course, we regret any errors in news stories appearing on our site, and looked into the matter promptly.
Finding incorrect information, we edited the story and issued a correction, as is our policy.
We soon found that K-pop fans can be as velvet-gloved with their praise as they are heavy-handed with their critiques — a bit of a surprise, considering their initial vehemence:
We’re glad we set the story straight with the help of our readers.
And for the record, we do not have a secret agenda against one of the world’s most influential entertainers — no matter what Stephen Colbert would have you believe.

Here are a couple of things that slid by under the radar in the excitement, worry, and utter craziness of the past week. Thanks to Rain’s official Thread (for Music Activities) on SOOMPI for the tips. 🙂
Rain’s adventures on Family Outing, running from/dealing with octopi and other marine creatures, running races, and washing up for bed, all set to him and Byul singing “How Much I Love You.” Love this! ♥ 🙂 ^@@^ (Edit and credit: sizuku219 @YT.)
The South Korean Media can go straight to the Devil with all of their “he jumped in his car and left without so much as a by-your-leave” bullsh*t. He tried and tried to acknowledge the fans who had been waiting for him overnight and for two years, but couldn’t ONLY because of your miserable paparazzi and your ilk from overseas. ^@@^

Hot. Sexy. Swaggalicious. Cute. Adorable. Innocent. Fun. Gracious. Humble. Silly. Flirty. Naughty. Prince Charming. All of these words describe Rain at his 2007 global 5th Cloud fan meeting in Seoul (hosted by his close hyung and one of my favorite MCs, Kim JaeDong) and during his KBS interview. Enjoy. 🙂

This news clip is awesome in that it includes so many facets of the man. He describes the way his fans react when they see him on the street according to their ages, with JaeDong playing the part of Rain and Rain playing the part of the fan. Hilarious! (And he’s right, haha.) And LORD, he was really working that poor, flustered, cute little interviewer over. Naughty Rain! “Are we on a date? Shouldn’t we finish the interview first?” LOL! I never cease to amaze myself with the predicaments I often find myself in when going about my business of trying to find, obtain or do something, and the ensuing (and often amusing) adventures that invariably follow as a result. The tale of this umbrella is no exception.
Sergeant Jung JiHoon is covering and featured inside Japan’s Korean New Discovery Special Vol. 37 for September (韓流新発見。 2013年 09月号), published by KEJ (Korean Entertainment Journal). According to Amazon Japan, the feature includes his military discharge and the 800 fans greeting him, his history from young dancer to world star, a recap of activities just before enlistment, how when challenged as a singer he did not stop, Rain as Hollywood actor Jung JiHoon, and more. According to sizuku219, who bought the magazine at her local store, the feature is some 50 pages. ^@@^

[*Edited to Add #2: For all intents and purposes, everybody, it looks like the poster with Rain on it may be an older one, and the CORRECT poster NOT have him on it. Oh, who the heck knows? All we know is Stephe found this on a blog in Japan. Is it true or not? Your guess is as good as ours, so don’t bother asking us about it right now. Maybe another video will pop up between now and the 17th to let us know whether it is true or not.
Sigh. Rainy and Cube, I just wish one of you would get with it. I mean really. Why do we have to search all over the place for official news about Rain? Why can’t you just make our lives easier and send us press releases and stuff like every other entertainer who isn’t even related to Rain already does? LOL.
Even a little “official” news up on Rain’s “official” website now and again would be a major improvement. Sigh again.

*Edited to Add: A second Sonic Shanghai poster. One has Rain on it… and one does not. Should we flip a coin? Maybe not. Sonic Bang jumped the gun a little bit, so…
In any case, if he’s going to be there, we fully support him on that. If he’s not and the other poster was misinformation, we’ll support him on that too because HE knows what is best for him during this trying time.
I trust that this needs no introduction. I wasn’t just spinning tall tales in my post yesterday. He didn’t want to leave the Infantry, but he had little to no choice in transferring to where his reputation would suffer the most. What a horrible position to be in, knowing that the public will blame you for the change. 😦
Funnily enough, just like the DEMAclub blog post of Rain’s February 2012 interview, the source page for this February 2012 article is no longer up on Nate. How convenient. Harudo11 of Cloud Hungary jogged my memory about this article. Thanks, dear. 🙂 ^@@^
Rain’s position will be changed from a teaching assistant to an entertainment soldier
Singer and actor Rain’s position will be changed from a teaching assistant belonging to a recruit training center to an entertainment soldier belonging to the Publicity Department as part of the Ministry of Defense.
One of Rain’s own aides said on the 22nd, “Rain told me, when he took a leave, that his position might have to be changed. Since the Publicity Department made a firm request that he should become an entertainment soldier, he seemed to be determined to change his position.”
Rain’ll be assigned to the Publicity Department on the 24th after being interviewed for a post as an entertainment soldier on the 23rd.
Rain enlisted last October 11th, was selected as an ultra warrior doing outstanding work with an excellent physical strength, and received a citation signed by the divisional when the presentation of certificates took place in a recruit training center belonging to the 5th Division. He has served in a recruit training as a teaching assistant since the boot training.
So, you mean there ARE some journalists and news sources in South Korea who actually paid attention to the fact that RAIN WAS NOT OUT DRINKING AND CAROUSING WITH THE SOLDIERS UNDER FIRE? They actually understand that SBS used Rain’s name for ratings when he was actually with his bosses and not the group? OMG. Hell just may be about to freeze over. Well!
Sad, sad news below, but not unexpected, unwarranted, or avoidable. I take no joy in it—It’s not natural to be joyous when someone else’s life is burned to the ground (unless you’re one of those hateful little mudskippers called a netizen), but at the same time… what an idiotic thing to have done. On the list of diabolical chances for a PR Agent to take, this was a doozy. Quite the depressing place these days, Seoul, South Korea. *sigh*^@@^
Celebrity soldiers heavily punished for violating code of conduct
The South Korean military authorities have taken a severe disciplinary action against many soldiers of a celebrity unit who turned out to have violated the military code of conduct and gone AWOL. Those to be disciplined include Sangchu (real name: Lee Sang-cheol) and Seven (Choi Dong-wook).
A Defense Ministry source said on Thursday, “Seven out of eight celebrity unit soldiers are given jail time in the military prison and one being under probation.” Sangchu and Seven, who went to massage parlors after a military concert in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province on June 21, were given a 10-day lockup in the military prison. A television program captured them entering several massage parlors at late night and created a social backlash. Another source said, “Although we found that the two soldiers did not go there for sex but for massage service, we decided to give them a spell in a military jail because they violated the military code of conduct and went AWOL.”
The ministry ruled other five entertainment unit soldiers a 4-day in a military prison for illegally bringing mobile phones. A military prison term is a disciplinary action that can lock up a soldier in a military prison within 15 days without a trial. A soldier who is given a military prison term is imprisoned in a specific place and must serve for as many more days as he served in a jail. The record, however, is not kept unlike criminal punishment.
Military takes severe disciplinary action against ‘Sangchu’ and ‘Seven’
Sangchu’ and ‘Seven’ will be redeployed to field forces after being confined in the guardhouse.
The military has taken severe disciplinary action against entertainment soldiers ‘Sangchu’ (his real name, Lee Sang-Cheol. aged 31) and ‘Seven’ (Choi Dong-Wook, 29) since the news of their going to massage parlors offering illicit sexual services, caused quite a stir in the country.
According to the Defense Military on the 25th, two (‘Sangchu’ and ‘Seven’) and five others of the 8 entertainment soldiers who are accused of violating military rules, are to be to the guardhouse for ten days and for four days, for going to massage parlors offering illicit sexual services and for using prohibited item ‘cellphones’, respectively. The remainder of them is to be placed under probation. After that, all of them will be redeployed to field forces.
At a briefing last 18th, the Defense Military said, ‘Following the crisis as a result of an inspection of entertainment soldiers, the military has decided to abolish the entertainment soldier system because normal soldiers who are faithfully serving in military, have been demoralized by them and because the inevitable result of the controversy has been the complete loss of the public’s confidence.”
An endless debate had surrounded the issue of whether to continue or stop the entertainment soldier system since some entertainment soldiers’ violating rules were shown on a current affairs TV show last 25th.
1)Let me get this straight. Rain didn’t apply to DEMA or get interviewed? *as I glance around in confusion* Hooo-kay. LOL! Here he is, listing all of his requirements for the job, in an INTERVIEW in February 2012. If this isn’t it, then what the heck are they looking for?
(Source credit: DEMAclub @tistory / courtesy of scorpiolabibi)
Funnily enough, the source page on DEMA’s blog where they posted all of the above in March 2012 has been taken down. But that’s okay, seeing as in November 2012, they posted on their official Facebook and reminded us of Rain’s March interview. You can see the translation of the Facebook post below by clicking HERE.
2)Has anyone stopped to think that Rain may not have submitted the necessary paperwork to DEMA within three months of his enlistment because he might not have intended to go there? Jung JiHoon made his intentions quite clear from the get-go, that he wanted to serve quietly in the Army as a regular soldier, be out of the limelight for duration of his service, do well, and come home renewed. He tried to make good on that, serving eight weeks of boot camp rather than the usual four to six (and rather than bypassing boot altogether as some have done), and happily settling himself into the 5th Infantry as an ATO near the DMZ.
PFC Rain: Not a happy camper.
Then, with no warning after five months, DEMA suddenly breaks the news like a giddy schoolgirl that “Rain” was coming to serve in PR and how it was a “new day” and they would proudly show off their “world star” and that oh, by the way, let us stress (a bit too much) that Private First Class Rain completed an application and is coming of his own volition). R-i-g-h-t. As if the man would suddenly volunteer to earn Netizen Hatred when he’d already earned Netizen Approval. Seriously? Anyone with half a brain knows that unless you want life to get extremely difficult for you in the military, you do what you’re told to do. With or without “paperwork.” (They didn’t even call him Jung JiHoon. It was always “Ambassador 비” and World Star Rain, and he didn’t look all that happy about it.)
And in related news, the Defense Ministry’s PR department has plans itself for a large-scale movie, which Rain and other enlisted K-celebs will all take part in. The PR department’s manager is quoted as saying, “We plan to schedule the movie production at that point [when] Rain enters the army, but our movie is still in its conceptual stage and the details of the scenario have not yet [been] completed.”
They said this in September of 2010, a whole year before Rain was even close to enlisting. They were chomping at the bit and making their plans that early. When he chose the Infantry, well that simply would not do, I suppose.
During that time in March 2012, Rain talked about the PR Unit being short-staffed because of all the soldiers who were being discharged, and how everyone should be where they are most needed. In my mind, that’s how he resigned himself to it and got through it—serving the country by serving the troops.
3)Did we not squawk for months about the DEMA higher-ups using celebrity soldiers for free labor for a slew of their own personal stuff unreported, for the longest time, heck, for years?Haven’t other reporters in the past done so as well, even Star News? (I thought everyone listened to Star News as The Gospel!) Celebrity soldiers have not only been responsible for their everyday basic soldier duties and training and all of the ambassador-ing, entertaining, and PR work, they’ve also been on call like cattle for whatever non-military events came down the pike, no matter when, no matter who, with no compensation, and had no choice in the matter (the brig isn’t a very nice place to be when you refuse the guys with the brass on their uniforms). Why hasn’t anyone listened? Yet there it is. Now THAT is what you call “abuse of power”, dear journalists. (I’ll be talking more about this matter and Rain’s killer schedule coming up in a future post. Surely you didn’t think I was finished, did you? Not even close.)
4)Why is Mr. PR Director possibly not interviewing Rain or letting some things slide because he was “intimidated” (LMAO!) seen as “a convenience for the celebrity soldier” rather than a convenience for Mr. PR Director? It’s so easy to keep trying to blame the soldiers for any corruption within the Defense Ministry’s infrastructure rather than the MoD itself, isn’t it? In a statement to eNews back in March 2012, a DEMA official said that Rain did submit an application and did go through an interview. (Note: All of a sudden, a slew of other celebs’ duty assignments were being changed at the same time. Pretty quickly.) And now the MoD has provided evidence that says oh, we were lying back then, despite all of our statements and Tweets? Which brings us full circle, right back to #1… who is that being interviewed for a PR job in that DEMA video? Mahatma Gandhi?
Ugh. If anyone is as confused as I am, raise your hand.
It would behoove the South Korean media to get on the same train the government is riding and put the blame where it belongs, instead of being bitches to the soldiers who have no power. And negligent K-Pop/K-Drama portals should get current and look for better sources. The ones they’re clinging to ain’t cutting it. — Stephe ^@@^
Rain Revealed to Have Become a PR Agent without Required Documents
Just when all seemed okay again for Rain, another issue has turned up for the recently discharged soldier.
On July 24, congressman Kim Kwang Jin of the National Assembly Defense Committee, stated that a PR Agent management inspection report received from the Ministry of National Defense revealed that Rain and ten other PR agents were accepted as PR agents despite not sending in any required documents.
To become a PR agent, an actor, comedian, or singer must submit documents and recommendations that prove of their experience in each area. The documents must be handed in within three months of the enlistment date.
It has recently been discovered that Rain and other PR agents have not turned in these required documents.
Kim Kwang Jin also raised up suspicions that the full-time PR director, who was in charge of interviewing Rain, provided unnecessary convenience to the celebrity soldier. It’s said that the PR director remarked, “How can a deputy director dare to interview world star Jung Ji Hoon?” during the interview process.
In addition to these issues, it′s been previously noted that PR Agents were mobilized to sing at the weddings of PR agency officials in November of 2012 and March of 2013.
“The Defense Media Agency and the Ministry of National Defense must be held responsible for these issues,” said the congressman, as he added that there are bigger problems than the ones revealed during the official briefing of the Ministry of National Defense that took place on July 18.
So now you all know… if you’re on WordPress and you do something that happens to catch Stephe’s eye, you might find yourself reblogged. Thanks for making me giggle, randomsoju. 😀 ^@@^

Now that this information has been confirmed by Cube(and we have a moment to breathe), we can put this up.
And before some nutty-zen or dim-witted reporter asks the question, if it hasn’t been asked already… Yes, YES, Rain has every right to get back to work if he so chooses, regardless of soldier scandals or anything else that’s going on in the military right now. The man just went through two years of earning $80. a MONTH. Bump the military, and bump waiting for the public’s “permission”, as if people will ever be satisfied! Rain’ll put on a great joint show in Thailand in August
Singer and actor Rain will put on a great joint show in Thailand upcoming August.
According to his management agency ‘Cube Entertainment’ on the 18th, Rain will have a performance at Sonic Bang, the best music festival in Thailand, on August 24th, which features many famous Korean and foreign musicians including Korea’s Epik High, the U.S.’s top hip hop group ‘Far East Movement’ where a Korean-American member belongs, Jason Mraz, etc.
This will be Rain’s first performance after his two years of military service last 10th, which attracts fans’ attention. However, Cube Entertainment said, “The schedule of the concert was set out before Rain’s contracts with Cube, so this concert doesn’t have very much to do with what he makes his comeback.”
Continuing, “He hasn’t even started working on an album yet. He’ll begin to work in earnest after getting some rest as it hasn’t been long since he was discharged from the army.”
Cube Entertainment officially announced that Rain had newly signed on with the agency at the end of May.
After starting off just fine with a title that is true and two decent sentences, it abruptly veers off into left field where everything plaguing the Military, celebrity soldiers, and the country of South Korea in general is all Rain’s fault. Which is a complete load of crap.
Se7en is a grown man, not in elementary school. Him recently losing his ever loving mind, getting caught trying to get his “car” waxed after a military show, and getting into a tussle with an SBS reporter is all Se7en’s fault and no one else’s, certainly not Rain’s, who was properly asleep, an example that Se7en should have followed. DEMA not providing the proper support for their charges and being irresponsible supervisors is the reason the PR Unit is being shut down. Rain wasn’t even involved in SBS’s big story, though they tried to put him in it. Rain is only responsible for his indiscretions with Kim TaeHee seven months ago, which does contribute to the result but is not the cause of it, or the PR Unit’s demise would have happened seven months ago. You would think that people would at least give Rain credit for keeping his word not to get in any more trouble through the end of his service.
Ah, yes… let me kick SBS’s hindquarters for a minute.
I had always thought you were pretty much a respectable news joint, SBS—until now. Until you signed off on your Special Celebrity Soldier Task Force intentionally marketing its Big Story as if Rain was in it and as if Rain had done something wrong to screw the end of his service, which he hadn’t. I’m sure your faces were pretty crunchy when you saw that he was not with the other soldiers traipsing around town, having dinner and drinks, sneaking out at 4 AM in search of a Happy Ending. That must have really pissed you off, that his discharge was coming up and you had nothing. Incredibly, even big fish Se7en and Sangchu with their hands in the cookie jar wasn’t a lucky enough score to appease you.
You tried to keep up the Rain illusion by sprinkling his military picture throughout your nebulous follow-up reports that 1) didn’t even name particular celebrity soldiers in the footage, that 2) supposedly showed where celebrity soldiers lived, that 3) got a statement from a guy who wasn’t even mature enough not to be bitter in front of the camera because he wasn’t famous like a celeb soldier (biased much?), and that 4) got a hazy statement from a woman who didn’t name anyone when entertainment soldiers allegedly “groped” and “abused” her and other women at a party. (Seriously? After what “Trainee A” did to Park ShiHoo, we don’t just swallow stuff like that without question, pun intended.)
What really pegged you as scuzzy, though, was this: A huge K-Pop star in the military was found at a massage parlor on the 21st, and the footage held back for FOUR DAYS. Were you trying to figure out the most effective way to edit it? Did you not only want to ruin your country’s military patriotism on the anniversary of the day the Korean war started, but also Rain’s birthday by airing it on the 25th (two birds with one stone)? Oh, let’s draw the rest of the story out over the next two weeks and end it the day before Rain is discharged, to keep everyone on their toes and cause him grief. *tsk tsk*
All of that wasn’t even necessary. You could have blown the whistle on the PR Unit problems and called it a wrap, seeing as your report and Se7en’s shenanigans were enough to finally get the Defense Ministry to fold. But hey—it’s not a total loss for you in the Rain department. Other news sources like the one below and some nutty netizens are now blaming Rain for the dissolution of the PR Unit, for Se7en’s misconduct, for the droughts and the floods that are devastating the earth, because of you. So pat yourselves on the back.
(Oh, that might have been more than a minute. LOL)
Dear Nocut News, don’t you worry your pretty little head over Rain’s “tarnished image.” We have it on good authority that this extraordinary entertainer—who came out of one of the hardest boot camps in the Army as a super soldier, was always a top scorer in Infantry exercises, earned one of the hardest military positions to get, impressed his commanders by being disciplined and not leaning on his celebrity, and served at the DMZ near the North Koreans before DEMA came sniffing—is not quite so hated by the people of South Korea or the soldiers he left behind as the unscrupulous Korean Media would have us believe.
Rain’s good far outweighs his bad. He served 15 hardworking months before making his mistake, sincerely apologized, and spent his last seven months staying clean and trying to make up for it. That will go a long way with the people who count, real people, despite bottom-feeding Korean journalists who clearly have no ethics, are not interested in the truth, and were complicit in ruining his Army release just for fun. — Stephe ^@@^

Nocut News 7/18/2013 — [English translation by 화니]
Now Rain is the final entertainment soldier
After Rain’s discharge, it is quickly decided in the military that the entertainment soldier system will be abolished.
16 years after a system of entertainment soldier was instituted, the Defense Ministry has decided that they will abolish the system, and therefore now Rain is the final entertainment soldier of the Defense Media Agency, part of the Defense Ministry.
Ironically Rain has played no small part in its decision. The immediate cause of the decision is the exposure of the fact that some entertainment soldiers have violated military rules. Following the crisis, the Defense Ministry has promised to abolish the system.
The Defense Ministry’s improper maintenance and entertainment soldiers breaking the rules were shown on a current affairs TV show only six months after the Defense Ministry’s announcement of detailed administrative guidelines for the system since a controversy over Rain’s violations of military rules in the process of dating actress ‘Kim Tae-Hee’, which infuriated the public. That’s why the system has been driven into abolition.
At last, Rain, who played no small part in the process of abolishing the entertainment soldier system, has been the final entertainment soldier to receive an honourable discharge from the army.
To restore his tarnished image in a situation where Korea is very sensitive to the issues of the military, it seems to be urgent for Rain to be poised to make a significant breakthrough to another level.
