You read that right, readers! In roughly three weeks, on February 27, Rain’s new historical movie 자전차왕엄복동 (Bicycle King Uhm Bok Dong, also known as The Cyclist King Uhm Bok Dong) will be released in theaters in Korea AND in CGV Cinemas in Los Angeles and Buena Park, California. As of this posting, there is no news of the film being released anywhere else but, rest assured, we and other fans out there are going to the source and requesting it in our countries and cities.

Time will tell if our wishes come true. ^@@^

To perform at this event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center was one reason Rain flew to Hong Kong. As I understand it, he donated a piece of his clothing to the charity auction that took place. Nice! ❤ He sang “It’s Raining”, “Escaping the Sun”, and the opening theme of Diamond Lover (in Chinese). ^@@^

1/16/2019. Celltrion Entertainment, the production company of Rain’s upcoming movie Bicycle King Uhm Bok Dong, released this movie poster with Rain completely in character and with an aging filter that references the early 1900s. ^@@^

The day after that, we saw why. I ran across many Korean news articles like this one that showed Rain and the real cyclist/freedom fighter Uhm Bok Dong triumphant, side by side. Nice recreation! *thumbs up*

You heard right, Clouds and Rain fans — the historical movie that Rain filmed in the summer of 2017 (the real story of village cyclist Uhm Bok Dong, who became a national hero of Korea during the Japanese colonial era) is being released in February, next month. Awesome! We’ve wanted a role like this for Rain for a long time, and it’s nice to see the hard work he put into the film come to fruition.

Bear in mind that, in some circles, Bicycle King Uhm Bok Dong is also known as The Cyclist King.

K-pop superstar Rain and local stars grace red carpet at new Cartier flagship store

Korean pop star Rain, along with Japanese DJ Yulia, and local celebrities like Zoe Tay, Fann Wong, Christopher Lee, Rui En, Rebecca Lim and Sheila Sim, attended the re-opening of French jewellery brand Cartier’s boutique store at ION Orchard last Friday (23 Nov).

Boasting three storeys with a total retail space of 688 square metres, it is the largest flagship store in Southeast Asia. The third floor, dubbed Le Salon Cartier, is an exclusive new VIP salon, which will cater to its bespoke clients.

“I wear their designs very often as I have always liked Cartier’s collections. I am very honoured to be invited to this event tonight,” said Rain.

The singer-actor, whose real name is Jung Ji Hoon, revealed that he is preparing for his new album, together with a movie to be released in 2019. The CEO of his own entertainment company also hinted that he might return to Singapore for a concert tour next year.

He added: “I am always very grateful to my fans in Singapore for welcoming me here, even though it can be difficult for them to see me. I would just like to convey my thanks to them.” (con’t)

Popular Singapore-based magazine Asian Geographic recently released its 4th issue of the year, featuring its list of the 100 most astonishing and outstanding Asians from all walks of life, past and present. Singer-songwriter Rain made the list (on the cover, he’s 4th row down, last picture, on your right), and just by looking all over our media blog, it should be obvious as to why. He’s a proud Korean, a role model, a mentor, influential, philanthropic, world-conscious, and an amazing entertainer who practically brought the world to Korea’s doorstep and cracked opened doors out in the world for those who would follow.

The stadium was HUGE and the stage too far away from the audience for Rain’s taste so, sweetheart that he is, he hopped down off that sucker and took the show to the people, haha. My favorite Insta cam is the last one, with the fanboy in the audience singing the heck out of “Instead of Saying Goodbye.” That guy was totally committed to Rain and to that song. Git it, boy! ^_^

Rain’s hair was in fine form too, as usual.

I swear, it is a star in its own right and should have its own contract with R.A.I.N. Company, just sayin. ^@@^

DJ Aster posted this image of himself, Rain, and Ravi on his Instagram on November 7, so we could all see the three men behind his dope club jam “Champagne” (released back in the summer, on 8/14). Remember how the music world and Rain fans freaked out when we all realized it was Rain’s luxurious voice on the track? Haha! Well, I bought “Champagne” and the instrumental version on iTunes and I’m STILL bumping the hell out of it, especially while driving and going about my day, and I’m not alone (ain’t that right, Wesley? ^_^).

“Pour up champagne… I need some more poppin’ champagne…” That’s what I be saying on Saturday mornings while fixing my mimosa, y’all. haha^^

Lesson time: By the way… 雨 is recognized as “rain” in China, Japan, and Korea. You’re already used to 비 (Bi) in Korean and ピ (Pi) in Japanese, right? As I understand it, Mandarin Chinese-speakers pronounce 雨 like a long “e” and short “u” quickly mashed together (Yǔ). Quite beautiful to my ears. 🙂 ^@@^

** Edited to add 11/18: I’m just now realizing I was so enraged at Warner and distracted that I forgot to publish this post after I wrote it a month ago! LOL! Well, there’s someone somewhere who still doesn’t know the news, and it needs to be on the blog for future reference anyway, soooo better late than never. LOL ^@@^

If Rain’s pics could talk: “And just how are my global fans supposed to watch my stuff now? Answer me!”

It’s the end of an era, folks.

Yesterday, Warner Media shut 9-year-old streaming giant DramaFever totally and completely down, with NO WARNING at all, while many subscribers were literally watching their shows.

DramaFever was a godsend and a trailblazer for legal Asian and Hispanic entertainment streaming. We met so many new friends there that we otherwise wouldn’t have. I loved the years we partnered with them while I wrote news articles there. I don’t know any other On Demand source of a near-complete HD collection of Rain’s shows English-subbed. There is a way to do things, Big Corporation, and this was not it! Your 4 million+ subscribers deserved better. 😠

Anyone have recommendations for drama-watching going forward? Viki? Hulu? Soompi TV? Netflix? (Although, we already know no site out there will be like DramaFever was.) ^@@^

Warner Bros. kills Asian streaming haven DramaFever

It’s a sad day for Korean drama fans.

Warner Bros has axed its streaming service DramaFever with immediate effect, it announced on its website Tuesday. The service was best known for making Kdramas accessible to its subscribers, though Chinese and Japanese content were also available on the site.

The company confirmed the closure to CNET in an email: “Today, Warner Bros. Digital Networks will be closing its DramaFever OTT service due to business reasons and in light of the rapidly changing marketplace for K-drama content, a staple of the service’s programming. Warner Bros. Digital Labs, which encompasses more than two-thirds of the DramaFever workforce, will continue operating, serving as the tech engine behind many of WBDN’s operations,” said a spokesperson. (con’t)
