We know the unending typhoon over there is giving South Korea a horrible time with property damage and fatalities left and right. We here in the Southern U.S. can identify—but in a totally different way. We’re in a deadly heatwave, and we don’t know when it’s going to end. All of the heat indexes have been in the triple digits (waaaaay over 100 degrees) and over a hundred people have died.

Mother Nature is really having a fit. Doesn’t seem to matter where you are! ㅜ_ㅜ *weeping*

Rain may do Hollywood Project with Richard Gere

Asian superstar Rain may do Hollywood Project with Richard Gere.

Earlier today, Rain uploaded a picture of himself next to Richard Gere with a comment below saying, “Can I be any happier. Words can’t express how I’m feeling… I was proposed a huge project so that is why I’m here. Starting now. Expect it three years later…with Mr. Richard.”

An official from Rain’s agency J.Tune told 10Asia over the phone, “The upcoming project revolves around something happening in Hollywood but no information can be revealed yet since nothing has been finalized.”

She went onto explain that if the project comes about, it will probably take place after Rain fulfills his mandatory two-year military service which he is set to serve starting sometime this year.

Rain, considered one of biggest stars in Korea and throughout Asia since the start to his solo singing career in 2002, is currently preparing for his nationwide tour in Korea starting this month till September. He is also in the final stages of shooting his film “Take Off: Closer to the Sun” (translated title).

Rain had made his Hollywood debut in 2008 with a role in the Wachowski Brothers’ action pic “Speed Racer” and landed the lead role in martial arts film “Ninja Assassin” a year later.

Richard Gere visited Korea in mid-June to promote his exhibition titled “Pilgrim” and to take part in various programs to experience the Korean culture.

Celeb Trend: MCM Backpacks

The latest leather accessory favored by celebrities isn’t monogrammed with LV or covered in a brown check pattern. Rather, it’s emblazoned with an MCM and often decorated with diamond-shaped gold studs. MCM is a luxury leather goods brand from Germany which has become very popular in Seoul, as evidenced by the many Korean stars who can be seen holding its wallets, clutches, and handbags. However, it’s the backpack which is particularly ubiquitous right now! You might think that it’s difficult for a backpack to look anything but utilitarian, but the structured shape and the metal detailing make the MCM backpack a stylish favorite of celebrities. Check it out!

DBSK’s Yunho has been seen wearing this cream leather model a couple times. It’s very versatile, as it goes equally well with a black leather jacket and a pastel cotton peacoat!

Not to be outdone, bandmate Changmin has sported a more hardcore version in black leather. The studs on the straps guarantee that this is a statement piece even from the front.

However, it’s Rain who may be most associated with the MCM brand, as he has modeled for them in the past and continues to appear at the brand’s events. Here, he can be seen carrying the classic Cognac Visetos model (first two pictures), a similar model in red, and a more adventurous version in leopard-print fur and gold plating. Wow!

MBLAQ’s Lee Joon owns the same backpack. His hair color may change, but the red bag works either way!

Bandmate Thunder also displays the versatility of his black canvas model (as well as his hat and sunglasses).

Rain Tweets “I Can’t Breathe” from New Movie Set

Rain tweeted a couple of photos from the filming set of new movie, “Flight: Close to the Sun,” today.

In the first tweet, he said, “All the staff has been filming here for over 24 hours…At least I rested for about two hours~” with a photo of the movie set and artificial cockpit that is used for one of his scenes.

Moments later he tweeted another message saying, “I’m sitting here for 20 straight hours…the oxygen mask is fake. I can’t breathe, cough cough.” In the photo, Rain is seen dressed as a fighter pilot, which is his role in “Flight: Close to the Sun.”

Netizens who saw these photos commented, “It must be tough, stay strong!” “Be careful not to be dehydrated,” and “You’re so cool!”

“Flight: Close to the Sun,” featuring Rain and Shin Se Kyung, is an action blockbuster about a flight lieutenant on the Korean Air Force, and it will be Rain’s last movie before joining the military later this year.

MBLAQ’s Secret Donations Made Public

MBLAQ turns out to have been making secret donations over the last two years. According to local media, MBLAQ has made regular donations of toys, dolls, and clothings to child care facilities in Korea since their debut in 2009. They also met a middle school girl suffering from a brain tumor through a partnership with the “Make a Wish Foundation.”

“We were always interested in donations and volunteer work. So we donated toys and clothes to children’s house since our debut. We’re trying to send gifts on a regular basis,” MBLAQ told local media.

Following news of their secret donations, the group’s fan clubs have also joined MBLAQ’s efforts. For example, Lee Joon’s fans have begun supporting an Ethiopian girl personally in celebration of the group’s one year anniversary They also made donations to a Myanmar water improvement project to celebrate Lee Joon’s birthday. In addition, the group’s main fan club is running a special donation event for MBLAQ’s two year anniversary through Korean portal Naver.

“We are thankful for the fans joining our donation efforts. We’ll continue to work hard to show a positive side of us,” MBLAQ said.

And a bonus: The Boys’ Music Bank “Mona Lisa” performance from yesterday, which was, in a word, spectacular. And here’s another word for it—cocky. One would think all five of them are sporting girlfriends behind the scenes or something, with all the cocky attitudes oozing all over that stage. Look at Thunder’s shoulders (are they broader, or is it just me?) and the way he’s holding himself, not to mention the rest of them. G.O and SeungHo were doing some serious mackin’, and Joon and Mir were both like Damn, look at me. Just look at me.

Yes, it was time and after two full months of coming back with “Love Song” and “Hip Song” from his Back To The Basic mini-album, JiHoon had to say farewell at the end of May.

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards and his Biggest Badass Star nomination were waiting for him in Los Angeles. The ZEPP Love Tour was waiting for him in Japan. The Fugitive: Plan B filming, on location, was waiting for him all over Asia, as well as an ELLE photo shoot, an MCM boutique opening in Shanghai, another W Phone CF, and a slew of interviews and other projects. He had to jet out of there and move on, and he did it on KBS’s Music Bank, on Mnet’s MCoundown (sorry, the vids are down for this one), and here on MBC’s Music Core.

It was bittersweet, though, for him as well as for all of us. Aww. ♥ (And we all died over that new sexy über-HOT dance flow he threw in there on us, didn’t we? Have mercy!)

Well, fans, I’ve been praying for a brand new Rain magazine cover for about two weeks now. Ask, and ye shall receive. *ecstatic*

Our cover Man, decked out in his sponsors MCM and Cartier, is featured in Men’s Uno China‘s August 2011 issue, after being showcased in Men’s Uno Hong Kong just this past June. But then, he’s ridden the Men’s Uno train several times since his debut, so I’m sure it feels familiar to him.

We are praying and praying hard for everyone on the Korean peninsula right now, what with the continued rainfall and the resulting devastation there. Koreans are keeping their chins up, though, and going about their lives like troopers, and we say thumbs up to that. Fighting!

Rain is staying extremely busy, which he has to do because he has a gazillion irons in the fire this month. The Man has a lot to get done, so if he doesn’t tweet regularly and seems to drop out of sight, give him a break. He’s working like a dog! Capiche?

This wonderful May 15, 2010 performance was at the Love Charity Concert in Seoul that Rain did a few hours before also doing Kim JangHoon and PSY’s “One Touch the Last” joint concert. He was all dressed up and had plenty of places to go that night, yes he did.

Shortly after they finished on the Love Charity stage, the Man and the Men hightailed it out of there and across town in time enough to delight the fans at PSY’s shingdig—and PSY hyung had a surprise of his own, as I recall, » in the form of graphic “Love Song” ab rolling. ROFL! Rain was cracking up at the sight of that. Talk about awesome.

{*Edited to Add: It has come to our attention that there are stories in the news concerning Korean sites being hacked by persons unknown who are possibly in China. IF that is what happened to this particular post (our Info Tech staffer says it looks like an English to Hangul conversion problem by the admin)—the only post on the English side about Rain’s upcoming concerts in Korea, mind you—then it should be taken down OR a notice put up that says sorry, we’ve been hacked. No other post on the Korean or English side appears to have this problem.

You can’t always control what happens on the Internet, but we’re just saying pay attention and try to keep people informed about things. That’s all. ^@@^ :-}

Not only do we English-speakers have to deal with our side of Rain’s official website being miles behind the Korean side when it comes to Rain news and media… it appears that » now we can’t even get ENGLISH.

How many more days before somebody over there notices that their post is corrupted? (It’s already been a month.)

Seriously, J.Tune? Can you be more shoddy? You can at least pretend that English-speaking Rain fans (who are spending their hard-earned money just like everybody else) are a little important. *steaming* ^@@^ :-{
