° Edited to Add: Please see the translations below of Mr. Kichun’s earlier tweets, Clouds and fans. He still seems upset about having to see JiHoon off to the military, almost as if he personally sent him away himself, aww… but very happy to see his son again.

What he has tweeted doesn’t bother me, and I’ll tell you why. As parents, we are super-sensitive when it comes to our kids. Heck, when my son comes back from competition with a sprain, you’d think by my reaction that he’d lost a limb or something. 🙂 Kichun-ssi is no different, and that’s okay. He should be concerned. He should be trying to watch over his kid and noticing every little thing that might be different. I think son was a little leaner than daddy expected him to be. That’s all.

And while we’re on that subject… Rain has danced through a whole concert tour with a fractured arm, part of another with an injured knee, etc. I’m pretty sure he can handle a sprain, especially with the infirmary looking after it. He’ll be fine. ^@@^

2) My son was promoted to a private (today, the 17th) after the five-week military basic training. He will be asked to receive an additional three week training to formally become a soldier. Everyone, let’s congratulate him for his hard work.

3) I met my son today. He looked more pathetic rather than manly, though I didn’t know why. My heart ached. He was only brought to my attention as it made me think, he was definitely the most outstanding figure in the crowd of solders. Looking at him, tears were (suddenly) welling up in my eyes. I was totally numb. I just looked at him..! I thank him for bearing with patience. I am concerned about his health. He showed no sign of pain even though he must have been suffering from ankle pain because of sprained ankle while training.

4) Thank you, all of my son’s fans. I’m home from the completion ceremony. My son’s face was gaunt when I saw him. I couldn’t take any snapshot of him eating earlier on because I was so tied up. He and his friends enjoyed your hearty food (a total of 24 people).

That’s our JiHoon. Hours and weeks and months of singing and dancing and filming and running and fighting like a madman, night after night, is paying off in the military. Stamina to burn and all kinds of endurance, baby! The Golden Abs are still golden. Haha. 😀 (And by the way… the Men behind the Man are looking doggone good! We sure have missed you guys.)

To get the compassionate leave certificate as a reward, Rain completed the 3 kilometers in record time, fasting off the mark compared to other soldiers who are are ten years younger than him, and he did 90 sit-ups in a minute. 

Being on leave is definitely the best for solders. By the way, we are sorry that only 20 guys visited him for the first time since he had been enlisted.

Rain finishes basic training at boot camp

YEONCHEON, South Korea, Nov. 17 (Yonhap) — South Korean pop singer and actor Rain spent time with family members and friends Thursday after finishing five weeks of basic training at a boot camp here, the military said.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, is one of the most popular male celebrities in South Korea and a well-known star in other Asian nations.

The 29-year-old singer joined the military on Oct. 11, leaving devoted fans in and out of the country in tears.

He was originally expected to have a day-off outside the boot camp in Yeoncheon, 62 kilometers north of Seoul, after finishing his first five weeks of basic military training.

He chose to stay inside the camp, however, and spent time with about 10 visitors, including his father, younger sister, a singer friend and entertainment agency workers, according to the 5th Army Division where Rain received the basic training.

After undergoing three more weeks of military training, Rain, who is now an Army private, is set to spend the remaining period of his 22-month-long military service as an assistant instructor of recruits at the same military camp.

Rain receives the 5th Divisional Commander citation

Singer Rain received the 5th Divisional Commander citation both for setting a good example for the rest of soldiers and getting good marks in target practice, at a completion ceremony held at the boot camp inside the 5th Division, Sinseo-myun, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do region, on the 17th at 11am .

A military official said, “The 5th Divisional Commander citations are categorized into loyalty, courage, responsibility, respect, and creativity. Rain’ll receive a respect citation.”

Rain had acted as a mediator between teaching assistants and soldiers, he had possessed good initiative, and he had behaved in an exemplary manner, taking up the leader of the soldiers while undergoing basic military discipline at the boot camp for five weeks. For this reason, he received the citation.

The official added, “When we added up his scores on his army and barrack lives, he got high marks from both sides, contrary to other soldiers. So he has come to receive the 5th Divisional Commander citation.”

Rain who was enlisted at 306 Supplement located in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do on the 11th of last month, received a basic military training for five weeks beginning on the 17th of that month.

During a day and night rifle drill at the boot camp last October 26th, 19 of 20 targets and 10 of 10 went down before Rain’s shooting on the day and the night, respectively, so he became a first-class marksman.

Under the rule by the Army, over 18 of 20 shots and over 9 of 10 are admitted as perfect scores on the day and the night shoots, each.

Rain became an example model to the rest of the soldiers even in his barrack life.

He attended the drill regularly, and he got the highest mark even in the training test as he showed an outstanding ability to acquire the drill.

During his army life as a recruit called Company Commander, his role was to facilitate the communication process between teaching assistants and soldiers, even he hoped be a teaching assistant, and he passed the final evaluation, so he was able to be selected to be a teaching assistant.

The official gave words of blessing to Rain, “During the drill, Rain hoped to be a teaching assistant and passed the final evaluation, so he has become a teaching assistant. I hope he’ll work hard as a world star and a teaching assistant belonging to the 5th Division.”

Rain who is to move out of the supplement on the 18th after the completion ceremony on this day (the 17th), will act as a teaching assistant for the 5th Division’s the boot camp beginning on the 9th of next month after an executive education course for three weeks.

The very first picture says it all. There is nothing JiHoon Jung can’t accomplish. Just look at him, at his determination, at his pride. He has found his balance. We are so proud. (With him looking this magnificent after only 5-6 weeks, I’ve no idea how we’re going to manage looking at him without passing out come July 2013. Yowza!)

Looks like the official Mentholatum China microblog suffered a touch of “Rain Mania” today and posted a lot of Rain, larger than life. Love it.

The big white arrow on that massive poster is apparently pointing towards a Mentholatum China or MENtholatum for Men concept store (or stores) or a proposed location for said store there in the University commercial center. The area seems to have become a real hot spot for fans and the general public in the evenings. Terrific!

Eventually the time will come when he is finally allowed very limited sessions online, or he might have to wait until he gets leave. There is no telling how far off or how soon that might happen, so let’s keep our heads level about that—this is only his sixth week as a military man, after all. Let’s just make sure he sees LOTS of Yellow Ribbons For Rain whenever that time does come for him. Let’s surprise him with a united global Brigade he can be proud of!

Oh, happy day! Five full weeks of boot camp are over and done, and JiHoon’s father tweeted to us all today about his excitement over seeing his son at the upcoming graduation ceremony. Boy, what a tearjerker that’s going to be, for sure. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they’ll have someone take a great picture of them together for Tweeting. I mean that would simply be spectacular.

Now that boot is done and he has received a unit achievement citation, the word is he will have three more weeks of training (probably for his new position and specialized stuff) and then take his formal place as the ROK Army’s newest Assistant Training Officer in mid-December, right when his eight weeks of training are supposed to be up.

Aerial talk: More than just rom-com

It has been remade twice and won awards. And now there’s a plan for a sequel. So what makes Korean drama series Full House, such a success?

The answer can be anything, from a good storyline to catchy soundtracks, but one thing for sure, Full House has all the right ingredients to draw the audience.

While romantic comedy is its theme, it also strikes a balance between light action and tear-jerking drama, making fans laugh and cry at the same time.

Lead actors Song Hye-kyo and Rain have great chemistry, so much so that they won Best Couple award at the 2004 KBS Drama Awards.

Full House is about naive, aspiring scriptwriter Han Ji-eun (Song) who lives in her home called Full House, built by her late father.

One day, her two best friends trick her into believing that she had won a free vacation trip. When she is away, they sell her house.

On the plane, she meets a famous actor, Lee Young-Jae (Rain). When she returns, Han is shocked to find out that her house has been sold to Lee and that she has to work as a maid in the house to buy it back.

Things get messy and Lee offers Han a six-month marriage contract with him. In return, he will return the house to her.

Their love-hate relationship is fun to watch, especially when they childishly fight each other to protect their territory in the house.

Rain is a natural as the romantic protective husband in public. Fans love how the couple’s relationship evolves.

The impact of the series was so huge that a Filipino drama with the same title was made in 2009 featuring Richard Gutierrez and Heart Evangelista. Vietnam too had its version of the series in 2009.

Although we’ve yet to come out with a local remake, Full House was just as popular when it first aired on a local station a few years ago.

Izwan Pilus’ “Kembali Senyum” is a local version of the theme song “Why”.

The series returns on weekdays at midnight on 8TV.

The news of Rain’s military service_Rain’s team wins a military song competition.

-Brief summary-

There was a military song contest among 12 squads in 12th company’s 2nd platoon last Saturday. (12 November)

One squad and the other squad were neck and neck in the contest. Their scores were tied, but the squad where Rain belongs won the first prize in the competition, by one point, as he changed the music selection and wielded a good baton by leading his team extremely well in the final.

The squad where he belongs was presented with a ₩ 30,000 gift certificate [around $27. USD — ^@@^] to the PX [military commissary ^@@^], and they even had a cookie party.

They said their success was entirely due to his efforts and thanked him for the victory.

Also, they unanimously praise Rain’s overflowing with warmth.

A wonderful 8th Cloud named emik translated the following show segment about a newspaper article on Rain, that aired in Japan a day or so ago, and posted it on The Cloud English Talk. In order to save time, the parts of the “Made in BS Japan” show that she translated for everyone’s enjoyment were only the parts that pertained to Rain and insight into what he may be experiencing in the Army. And we thank her! 😀

Emik also mentioned in her post how happy the Japanese people were as a whole to see Rain’s news on their televisions.
