MBLAQ Check: Ball’n with MBLAQ

Ahhh, the good life! Ain’t it great?
Looks like it is with MBLAQ these days. Congrats to the boys for their most recent endorsement deal with Ball’n Korea!
You can watch their new CF for Ball’n on the Ball’n Korea website HERE.
For those of you who don’t know, the Ball’n brand was founded by Rodney Jeter, an American who actually got the germ of an idea for his company while he was stationed in South Korea as a U.S. serviceman, when he visited several factories there and became interested in the athletic shoe business.
Below is a great interview with Mr. Jeter about his company, Ball’n, from counterkicks.com.
For more information about Ball’n, the company, you can check out Ball’n’s U.S. website.

Please see below, posted on English Talk today, Korea time. Bravo, JiHoon, the ROK military’s newest Assistant Training Officer to be. 😀

[Translation] Recruits’ placement after training
By: huhuhuhu @The Cloud English Talk Board, 11/11/11
We have all read the news about our prince being selected as Assistant Training Officer (or Assistant Instructor or Teaching Assistant). This is the highest ranking/placement for a recruit who completed his training. Korean fans have found out the ranking/placing chart as follows:
신교대 수료 마치고
0순위 : 신병교육대 조교차출 및 A+급 애들은 우선 선점, 다 뽑음
1순위 : 헌병대(키, 외모봄)
2순위 : 공병, 의병, 통신대대 등(자격증따짐)
3순위 : 수색대(운동경력,키,덩치,무술자격증)
4순위 : 전차대
5순위 : 기타 보병대대
나머지 : 포병
Korean to Chinese: @偶爱2B薰
Chinese to English: huhuhuhu
After the recruits have completed their training, the selection process to assign them to different units will be based on the following grading:
0 : Teaching Assistant for new recruits. This assignment has the first priority in the selection process. Only recruits who have achieved A+ results will be considered.
1: Military police. (Height, appearance)
2: Military engineer, medical, communication etc. (qualification certificate)
3: Search team (sports experience, height, body built, martial arts certificate)
4: Tank unit
5: Other infantry units
The rest: artillery
It will be difficult work ahead. But this is our prince – he always chooses a difficult road and does his best. So proud of our prince!

Rain about town: On the back of a bottle of Anchor Ice?
•November 9, 2011 • 1 Comment— Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^
Hm. Two interesting things about the Weibo picture below…
1) It appears to be Rain on the back of a bottle of Chinese sponsor Hainan Breweries’ Anchor Ice Beer, which is not so surprising.
2) The image Hainan used looks to me to be from the December 2009 fan meeting for the opening of Rain’s official Japanese Cloud website (J.Tune Camp Rain Japan), rather than a still taken from the Rain/Anchor Ice campaign (which is probably all over the FRONT of the bottle, anyway). Which is surprising. Not a problem or anything, just really interesting!
It is a great picture of Rain—who wouldn’t want to use it? 🙂

AFP 11/9/2011 —
South Korean star Rain adjusting well to army life
SEOUL — Fans wept as he was drafted into the army last month but South Korean pop sensation Rain is apparently adjusting well to military life.
Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-Hoon, will become an assistant instructor next month at the boot camp which he entered in October, the defense ministry said Wednesday.
“Assistant instructors are chosen based on outstanding training results and their willingness, and Jung has shown that,” a ministry spokesman told AFP.
Rain was recently also named top marksman at the camp.
The 29-year-old singer has a huge following across Asia.
Many fans, including hundreds from elsewhere in Asia, burst into tears when he entered the camp to start his 22-month mandatory military service.
South Korea, which has remained technically at war with North Korea since their 1950-1953 conflict, requires all eligible men to serve in the military, although candidates can defer their service.

JiHoon has already written his Clouds a letter on his Army unit’s blogsite! You can see his first letter to everyone HERE, in our previous post. ♥
For information on where to write JiHoon, please go HERE, and also HERE.
Well, dear fans, the Man has been the property of the ROK military for exactly one month now, and he’s already made amazing strides and gained a ton of respect from soldier and civilian alike. In the space of four weeks, he’s nailed down titles of top recruit in his barracks in the Key Unit, and Squadron leader, and First Class marksman. And now, in addition to that, JiHoon will be receiving a distinguished ATO (Assistant Training Officer) position when he finishes his own training in boot camp, which will suit a big brother/mentor like him perfectly. He has so much to give to the younger set, as well as the heart and energy to do it, being in fantastic shape and still young himself.
We always felt that there was a Greater Picture involved when it came to JiHoon having to enlist. That someone somewhere really needed him, because things always happen for a reason. And so now we see that while the Man is living real life and improving himself in the living of that life, he’ll also continue doing what he was put on this earth to do—give encouragement, motivation, inspiration, and the benefit of his own experience and transferable skills to those who need a hand.
Bravo, JiHoon. We’re behind you all the way!
Rain is Eternal. Where clouds stay gathered, rain will always come. It is inevitable.

Rain Chosen as Assistant Instructor at Army Boot Camp
K-pop superstar Rain, a.k.a. Jung Ji-hoon (29), was chosen as an assistant instructor at the 5th Infantry Division’s Army boot camp, where he has been serving his mandatory military service since Oct. 11.
“Private Jung Ji-hoon volunteered to serve as an assistant instructor,” a military officer confirmed, adding that such appointments are only handed out to outstanding rookies.
“Jung was finally chosen as an assistant instructor as he has shown great enthusiasm for training and sets a good example for others in the barracks. He was also recognized as an outstanding trainee in a comprehensive assessment,” the officer added.
Rain will take up his new position from Wednesday, when he finishes basic training.

Rain selected as Assistant Training Officer of the No. 5 Infantry
By: huhuhuhu @The Cloud English Talk Board, 11/8/2011
We read news today about Rain being selected as the Assistant Training Officer of the No. 5 Infantry. This has generated much talk amongst the Korean public – with a lot of positive comments.
Here is something written by a Korean man who served in the army before, giving explanation and insight about being an ATO.
Korean to Chinese:偶爱2B薰
Chinese to English: huhuhuhu
(He explained what an ATO is.)
“An ATO is selected from only a handful of new recruits, usually not exceeding 5. So literally only the best of the best could be appointed. Although the officials will also consider personal wish, even if you wish to be an ATO, you will not be selected if you do not have the ability. From all aspects the ATO of new recruits is one of most difficult appointments.
Physically it may be slightly more relaxing than being in a search team, however the mental stress is much more serious. An ATO not only requires good self performance, he also has to constantly guide and supervise the other recruits in his team, so it is very tiring. He can’t sleep well, he even has to supervise every move of the new recruits during weekends. He will be reprimanded if any problems occurred to the recruits. So it does not mean you are OK if you yourself only perform well.
However, compared to other positions, being an ATO is a very distinguished appointment. Wherever you may go, if you tell others you background has been an ATO, people will even say hello to you in a different way. Women may not know about this, but all men know. The most admirable appointments for a new recruit will be in the search team and being an ATO. As a man, I really feel proud for Jung Jihoon.
I really have to give my endless encouragement to Jung Jihoon, who always chooses to walk on a difficult road, to accept new challenges. I wish he could be discharged soon, and I look forward to his smart face on stage, as well as an even more active performance in Hollywood.”
Well done, Rain! You have won the respect of many, many Korean men with your own actions, and not words.
We feel soooo proud of you. We feel sooooo proud being your clouds!!

Well, I don’t know what it is about this story, maybe everyone was in such a danged hurry to put it up that mistakes were unavoidable. Even the responsible and seasoned news outlets had glaring errors in their articles, wrong dates (no, Rain didn’t enlist on October 10… boot camp ends when?), weird translation glitches, really BAD English, et cetera… gah.
This is the only one that satisfied me today at all. Thank the heavens for Korea.com, at least. Wow. *dumbfounded*

Rain is selected as an assistant instructor in the Army
A high-level military official recently talked about the reason he chose Rain as an assistant instructor for the fifth division training camp. He said, “Rain is very responsible and faithful.”
Rain joined the Army on October 11 and has trained for five weeks with the fifth division.
The official said, “Jung Ji Hoon was an example for other recruits and did a very good job as a trainee with the other soldiers.”
“He also wanted to be an assistant instructor and we made a fair estimation. We thought he was good enough to be an assistant instructor.”
Rain is especially skilled at shooting.
On October 26, he shot the bull’s eye nineteen out of twenty times during the day and he shot the bull’s eye ten out of ten times at night. He was one of the top three marksmen among one hundred forty soldiers.
Rain will become an assistant instructor on December 9.
He will serve as a soldier for twenty one months and he will be discharged from military service on July 10, 2013.

Rain was chosen as the most suitable actor to play the role of Theseus
In a survey done by a portal site Nate, Rain took first place with 47% of the votes for ‘Who is the best Korean actor to play the role of Theseus of Immortals?’ So Ji Seop, who starred in Only You, took second place with 38% of the votes, and Park Jae Joong of JYJ took third place with 5% of the votes.
It is said that Rain is the most suitable for the role of Theseus because he has a firm and muscular body like that of Theseus. Netizens responded: “Rain must be the Korean Theseus.” “I give a vote to Rain who has a six pack just like that of Theseus.” “World Star Rain is the most suitable for the role of Theseus.”
Immortals is about the fight between Theseus, a mortal man chosen by Zeus, and the ruthless King Hyperion, who tries to destroy humanity.

Rain an Expert in Shooting: A Hidden Sniper?
On October 11, Rain joined the army as an active-duty soldier and now is being loved for his expertise in shooting.
According to the report submitted on November 6 by the National Assembly Defense Committee, Rain hit the bulls eye 19 out of 20 during daytime training and 10 out of 10 shots during nighttime training on October 26, achieving a hundred percent in shooting.
Before Rain, Hyun Bin (Kim Tae Pyeong, 29) also achieved the same scores, 19 out of 20 and 10 out of 10, and was called an “Expert Shooter.”
In order to pass, a soldier-in-training needs to have an accuracy of 60% or higher. With daytime training, 18 shots out of 20 or higher, and in nighttime training, 9 out of 10 bulls eye hit is considered a perfect score. Along with passing his first time, he is now entitled an “Expert.”
Out of 140 soldiers-in-training, 98 passed with 60% or higher accuracy. Among those who passed, Rain was in the Top 3. On November 14, Rain is to finish his training at the Training Center. Even though he is not even out of his training period, he is already wanted by the Air Force and the Marines.

K-pop superstar Rain was named top marksman at the Army boot camp after he enlisted for mandatory military service on Oct. 11.
Rain hit the target 19 times out of 20 in daytime training at the 5th Infantry Division’s boot camp on Oct. 26, and all 10 of his shots hit the target in nighttime training. He was one of the three conscripts with highest accuracy among the 140 in firearms training on the day.
Other stars named top marksmen are heartthrob Hyun Bin, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in March; Andy, a member of boy band Shinhwa who completed his military service last month; and actor Lee Jun-ki, who will complete his military service in February next year.

Super Junior’s Leeteuk speaks on behalf of his colleagues at the SM Town Live press conference:
Terri: My name is Terri, and I’m from hellokpop.com. [The whole group start saying hi to me in English. It was cute and it took me by surprise.] LOL. Okay. Hi. Hi. 🙂 It is our understanding that ticket sales for your show tonight have been phenomenal. Congratulations. I think this afternoon, there were only 153 tickets left. In the past, you’ve performed for audiences on the west coast, but tonight you’re about to perform for an entirely different audience here on the east coast. Do you have anything special planned for your east coast fans?”
Leeteuk: (in Korean) “Regardless of where we perform, we are always flattered to have so many fans rooting for us. Last night, when we were at the hotel, there were so many fans of ours outside shouting and showing us a lot of love. Because of that, we’re going to try to sing much better. Hopefully, this will give us the strength to do so.”

Hellokpop.com’s Fan Interview at SMTown Live World Tour NYC:
Terri: “Okay, we’re here at SMTown Live World Tour in New York City, at Madison Square Garden, and we’re going to talk for a few minutes to some of the fans. If you’d like to give us your name?”
Amanda One: “Sure. My name is Amanda.”
Katie: “And I’m Katie.”
Amanda Two: “And I’m another Amanda.”
Terri: “Okay, that’s interesting. And what’s your name?”
Sara: “I’m Sara.”
Terri: “Great. Thanks. Okay, I know I probably shouldn’t ask this, but who is your favorite group? [FYI, they were all wearing homemade shirts with ALL of the groups’ names on them. LOL.]”
Katie: Well, my favorite group is Super Junior.”
Amanda One: “I got into K-Pop after seeing Super Junior’s Don’t Don video. I was at a party and someone played it and I saw them and I fell in love in a heartbeat. So, then after learning about Super Junior, I started learning about DBSK/TVXQ and then got into Girls’ Generation. From there it expanded and now I’m an avid follower of 4Minute and BigBang and all of the SMTown artists.”
Katie: “And I got into it because my sister [Amanda One] introduced me to them, and so that’s how I got into K-Pop. I like Girls’ Generation as well. Super Junior is awesome. SHINee is amazing. So, I guess I just followed my sister.”
Amanda One: “The four of us sitting here, we’re from Minnesota. Came all the way from Minneapolis.”
Amanda Two: “Currently, I know some of the Super Junior songs, but what really brought us in [her and Sara] was SHINee.
Terri: “So, how did you get into K-Pop?”
Amanda Two: Mostly through the Internet, we’ve found a lot of K-Pop and J-Pop. We’ve also learned about it through friends. I also have a lot of Japanese friends, who are foreign exchange students at Saint Cloud State University, where we go to school. They would come in and are like ‘Oh, listen to this! It’s K-Pop!” We have two girls there who are super excited about Girls’ Generation. So, when we play Gee, they want to dance with us. They get really excited that we are from Minnesota and Americans and still know things that they know. They find that pretty exciting.”
Amanda One: “Yeah, it’s really hard in Minnesota to find other people that like Japanese and Korean music. It’s a very small number of people. So, it’s really amazing for me to be able to come to a venue of this size and see so many people in the United States like me who are as in love with these artists as I am. It’s really cool.”
All: Yeah! Yeah! [All of the other girls wholeheartedly agree!]
Amanda One: It’s really neat to see.
Terri: “Well, thank you ladies for the quick chat. It looks like they are going to start soon. So, I guess we have to stop now.”
Amanda One: “Yeah. I’m super excited and I can’t wait for this show to start!”
Katie: “I know, right? It’s running super late!”
Terri: Well, here’s my card. [Passing out cards.] Please come and visit us online at hellokpop.com and look for your interview to be posted soon.

Traveling to Seoul for an ultimate event—Rain’s Best Seoul concert stop!
By: StarRain @The Cloud USA Forum, 10/19/2011
Images: Seoulstice / courtesy of StarRain
The Seoul Girls have made it home safely (okay we’ve been home for a couple weeks) and we had an awesome time! Here are a few updates from our trip!
On September 21st, Cloud member hone2thab and I traveled together from San Francisco, CA to Seoul, South Korea. Although the plane ride was long (I think a total of 11 hours…not sure, someone fell asleep 😀 ) we were totally pampered on Singapore Airlines! We arrived on September 22nd in the evening (Korean time) so our first thought was “finding our hotel”!
We spent the next day getting ourselves acclimated to Seoul, its subways and of course…FOOD! Seoul is very beautiful but extremely busy! People were very helpful (yes, we did get a little lost *gasp* ONCE!).
But of course our focus was THE ULTIMATE EVENT WHICH WE HAD YET TO EXPERIENCE!!! Sorry, I was reliving it right there. I was totally unbelieving that the following evening I would be in the same room with my the man (oops)! We were lucky enough to get tickets up front/floor for BOTH CONCERTS! …sorry, had to wipe my forehead again (sweating again).
We arrived at the Olympic Stadium Park around 2pm on Saturday, September 24th, and we were so frenzied we were sweating (or maybe it was the 2 mile walk to the other side of this huge park)!
We arrived at the venue and I can’t even explain what it was like to see Rain’s picture in every direction you looked! I stayed calm…really I did!
Then we met up with Heidi (some may know her as “huhuhu” from the Cloud)…who spotted us right off! I wanted to give a little “shout out” to huhuhu because she is an awesome Cloud! She was working diligently in the heat to ensure all Cloud had their tickets and were ready for the show!
Our tickets… It felt a little like “Charlie from Willy Wonka land” with these actually in our hands!
We met up with other Clouds (RainCloudBi…here’s your shout out!) and then came time to conquer the Rain “The Best Show” souvenir crowd! Many vendors with many Rain encrusted items were scattered all over the area both nights before and after the concert.
—
(The StarRain stash, after getting back home to Nevada! Yes, that is a Rain PILLOW. ♥)
—
Then GAME ON! We got in our respective lines to enter the venue! Wristbands on, tickets in hands and grins from Seoul back to San Francisco! As we waited for the concert to begin, there was a feeling in the air that is indescribable.
We were very close to the stage both nights…AWESOME! I wanted to be close enough to get Rain’s sweat on me! (seriously, no complaints from me if it happened!)
Then the lights went out….
I won’t do a fan girl play-by-play but I think I stopped breathing when he actually came out… He was a powerful force on stage and the performances were excellent…of course! Being that close to him and having the chance to see him perform your favorite song cannot be described. And because we were upfront and he moved so much, most of my pictures were “behind” shots! My life is complete! I say this a lot, but I don’t think anyone has a good idea of how big Rain really is until you see him up close. (By big I mean his stature/body size) Not just his height but Rain’s wing span would make most eagles jealous! Those arms!!! *big evil grin*
Below are a few pictures I took of the trip, venue and concert nights (honestly, Rain moves too dang fast for my camera!) I have seen a lot of the fan cams and I enjoyed those more than the ones I took!

Check out this Mnet STAR Real Story entertainment report from December 2007.
From JiHoon’s earliest JYPE days through BMW Meets Truth and beyond, until they professionally parted, the team of Rain and Park JinYoung produced magic, magic, and more magic, behind the scenes and in front of the cameras. There’s just no denying that.
