[Cloud USA] MBLAQ put variety in their “Y” yesterday…

•July 5, 2010 • 6 Comments

… on Sunday’s Inkigayo (Popular Songs) show.

Whereas we have absolutely no problem with Joonie stripping off something—and he’s usually the one to do it anyway—it was a change of pace for G.O to remove his jacket and show some arms.  And maybe we just haven’t noticed if it’s happened before… but we don’t recall Thunder’s jacket ever being open all the way to his navel with no shirt underneath (nice touch).  And Joon seemed vampire-glittery. 🙂

A really good stage, with earthquake effect.  We enjoyed!

[Cloud USA] Uehara Takako and Naoto Takanaka hop aboard Rain’s Runaway train.

•July 5, 2010 • 2 Comments

Allkpop 7/5/2010 — Uehara Takako, a member of the popular Japanese girl group Speed, is officially set to appear as Rain’s lover in the upcoming KBS drama Fugitive.

After debuting in 1996 when she was only 13.5 years old through Speed, she as well as the group members quickly rose to fame and helped spark the Japan girl idol group boom.

After Speed disbanded in 2000, she later debuted as a solo singer commenced acting activities as well. In 2005, she acted alongside the Hallyu star Ryu Shi Won in a drama special called Much Ado About Love. Speed reunited as a group in 2008 and is currently still active, having released a single this past April.

Uehara Takako plays the role of Japanese best artist, Keiko and shares an affectionate love with Ji Woo (Rain’s character). This will be a love triangle; Lee Na Young and Uehara Takako fighting for the love of one man….

Korean Celebrities on the world stage: Rain on Arirang.

•July 5, 2010 • 4 Comments

In this news clip, Arirang, Korea’s Global TV, features Rain in its “Korean celebs who grace the world stage” segment.  In English, and English-subbed. Will Rain really do as he said and take it easier on himself for the next ten years?  Will he keep his word and relax a little?  Only time will tell…

It just tickles us to no end that everyone across the planet freely uses the word “badass” more times a day now than they probably say “hello.”  (Even non-English speakers.)  And it’s all our fault. 😀

Ask & You Shall Receive: More On 2winS!

•July 3, 2010 • 5 Comments

Hello Lovely Clouds,

Since Rain released his video introducing a new Hip-Hop group called 2WinS, quite a few of you have been asking where you might get more information about these guys (and whether or not there was any information out there about them in English).  Well, gosh.  All you had to do was ask!

First, I found one of their stage performances of the title track (Star) from their mini album (2WingS) on YouTube:

Did you enjoy that?  They are pretty GOOD aren’t they?

Wanna know more?  Here’s  a terrific little fan blog I found, called 2WinS Bounce.

Have fun, Clouds and I’ll catch ya later.

RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 22.

•July 3, 2010 • 8 Comments

Asia broadcast 7/3.  And how did Rain look so pumped up and buff in the Love Song music video?

Well, for one thing, he and the Crew exercised and special-dieted together like mad in the months prior to shooting.  And for another thing, right before the cameras would start to roll, he would take the time to give those precious, poppin’ muscles of his a major boost.  What with how frigid it was there on the streets of Seoul, and how cold naturally makes blood vessels shrink and constrict, I can see the necessity of this.  (Goodness!  He was probably tired before the filming even began.)

And for another thing… nothing says check out the definition in these arms and this body! like OIL smoothed on and glistening underneath all those lights illuminating the set.  Hmm-hm. Yum.

Wow, the fog was overpowering on that first take.  And Rain’s ball cap just wouldn’t cooperate.  At all.  But eventually, everything came together and gelled very nicely.  And it was a wrap.

Finally, it’s become the 7th concert.  There are two more yet to be held.  My next show will be in Sendai and Sapporo.

Actually, I’ve got a cold and find it uncomfortable to sing, so please understand (that I don’t really feel at my best today.)  What I’m catching a cold is no problem, however, because I’m a good singer.  (The audience laughed as if it sounded funny)  Let’s not hate each other.

In celebration of my 7th concert, I’m trying to give a pleasant show.

There are some fans who have been continuing to give chocolate to me, even though I’ve said before I would not eat it anymore.  Please stop it now.  Chocolate, no!

With that much chocolate, I’ll get diabetes.

Chocolate, no!

Chocolate, no!

Chocolate, no! (Together they chanted)

Money, OK !

You’ve watched me perform live, and wouldn’t you agree that I’m so cute?

[Cloud USA] MTV World Cup: Rain/South Korea is on the knockout pitch!

•July 2, 2010 • 3 Comments

MTV Newsroom Blog 7/2/2010 —

South Korea vs. Uruguay
South Korea surged through the opening round on the back of dynamic actor/singer/model Rain, who clearly covers the field well. Meanwhile, Uruguay had an extremely proficient first round thanks to the singular striking power of Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta (who was born in Montevideo). Which dynamic star will carry his team into the next round? Only you can decide!

» You can read Kyle Anderson’s post in its entirety on the MTV Newsroom blog HERE.

Any loss in the Final 8 knockout round means immediate elimination, so that cannot happen!  Let’s drive Rain and All The Reds down that field like guided missiles and slam our votes into the goal.  We can do this.  Team Rain/South Korea deserves the MTV World Cup of Rock championship not just because of his name, but because Rain is the most versatile, talented, and dynamic entertainer on this planet and he never fails to bring the house down when he gets on any stage.  (His colleagues in the K-Pop world are a dynamic bunch as well.)  And because he is a most kind and generous human being.

Rock long and rock strong, Clouds.  Go!

— Stephe @cloudusa.wordpress.com ^@@^

Vote percentages IN PROGRESS and to continue throughout the weekend

Knockout 3: RAIN (South Korea) 90% versus Gabe Saporta (Uruguay) 10%

Knockout 1: Tokio Hotel (Germany) 95% versus Lacuna Coil (Italy) 5%

Knockout 2: AC/DC (Australia) 69% versus Dir En Grey (Japan) 31%

Knockout 4: Red Hot Chili Peppers/Foo Fighters (USA) 39% versus Carlos Santana (Mexico) 61%

As you all can see, Germany is as much of a powerhouse on MTV as it is in reality at the FIFA World Cup.  Australia and the USA also tend to blow opponents out of the water, just like we do when we’re behind South Korea.  We are a force to be reckoned with, but we can’t afford to be cocky or one of them could very well sneak up on us.  Aja!  Aja fighting!

But don’t forget to have good, clean fun.  This type of event should also be used to bring fans across the Internet together and cement new acquaintances.  And we are a reflection on Rain. 🙂

[Cloud USA] Rain held a moment of silence for a fallen comrade.

•July 1, 2010 • 8 Comments

“Park Yong-Ha was the best actor and musician. I think it’s a pity that his death took place because his job was the same as mine.  May he rest in [peace] on this side of the grave.”

Asian source Money Today’s Star News quotes Rain as making this statement at the opening of his ZEPP Nagoya Hall show today. It is said that he was holding back tears as he asked the more than 1500 fans in attendance to join him in a moment of silence for the late 32-year-old actor, who allegedly committed suicide this week.

(Thanks to rain bird @rain-eu. for this information)

How utterly, utterly sad.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Yong-Ha’s ailing father, stricken family and friends.  We loved his work, were anticipating his newest projects, and will miss him terribly.

[*ETA: It has come to our attention that all reports are in and the Gangnam Police have now officially ruled Yong-Ha’s death a suicide.  He hung himself with his camcorder charger cord attached to his bedpost at around 3 or 4 am on June 30, and was found by his mother at around 5:30 am.  We apologize if this information is upsetting.  But suicide is upsetting, and raw, and visceral.  We shouldn’t look away.  We should confront the horrors of it head on.]

[Cloud USA] MTV World Cup group round winners: Rain top seed of Group B!

•July 1, 2010 • Leave a Comment

MTV Newsroom Blog 7/1/2010 —

MTV World Cup of Rock: Group Round Winners!

The 2010 FIFA World Cup gets back underway on Friday (July 2) when the final eight teams start squaring off for a chance to continue playing for soccer’s most coveted trophy. Today, the MTV World Cup of Rock kicks off its knockout round, which will see the two top qualifiers from each group advance to an eight-team single-elimination tournament, and in the end, only one country will be left standing to prove that it rocks the hardest and the best. Like the actual World Cup, the top seeds from each group will play the second-place finisher from an adjacent group (so the winner of Group A will play the runner-up of Group B, and the winner of Group C will play the second-place team in Group D)…

Group B
This group was all about South Korea, who hopped onto the Rain bandwagon and never looked back. Their dominating victories over the rest of the group earned them a top seed. In second place, the United States of America caught fire in the final hours of the opening round (not unlike the actual U.S. soccer team) and narrowly edged out England for a spot in the tournament….

» You can read Kyle Anderson’s post in its entirety on the MTV Newsroom blog HERE.

Ahhh… teams USA and South Korea being eliminated from the FIFA World Cup last weekend stings a little less now.  Group B all the way, with Rain at top seed!  *listening to the choirs singing*  We are stoked. 😀

The Final 8 knockout round has begun today with Germany versus Italy, and Australia versus Japan.  Rest up, Clouds.

Have a great Thursday, all.

REALITYFIFA World Cup 2010

No matches on Wednesday or Thursday (today).  Play resumes on Friday, July 2nd, with the quarter-finals (Final 8).

°

FANTASY:  MTV World Cup of Rock 2010  (Poll closed!)

Match-up #3 FINAL:  S. Korea (RAIN) 91.5% of the vote versus USA (Taylor Swift, Kings of Leon, Paramore) 8.5%

Match-up #2 FINAL:  S. Korea (RAIN) 95.2% of the vote versus S. Africa (Dave Matthews) 4.8%

Match-up #1 FINAL:  S. Korea (RAIN) 90.7% of the vote versus England (Coldplay) 9.3%

Well, gee.  Rain’s got to be through to the Final 8 knockout round with that kind of lead in all three matches.  For sure.  The question, though, is how will he be seeded?  In what position will he be placed?  There were a couple of other teams who also blew their opponents out with high percentages a time or two, like the US and Japan.  And I’m dying to know where my motherland will be placed; though I support Rain with everything in me, I do want the US to make a good showing, but their scores are too varied to help me predict anything…

All shall be revealed this morning (Thursday) in the MTV Newsroom blog’s World Cup of Rock coverage.  See you then.

The rise and rise of Rainism.

•July 1, 2010 • 3 Comments

TESL Korea News 7/1/2010 — For those of you out there not familiar with the awesomeness and hotness that is Rain, and his religious following known as Rainism, I cannot help but wonder what rock you have been living under for the past eight years.

Indeed, so great is the greatly growing popularity and fame of Rain, born Jung Ji-Hoon in 1982, that one of my closest girlfriends in Korea felt the need to bestow his name upon one of her three fish – and without the pretense of being racially prejudiced, the three fish happened to be coloured black, yellow and white. Thus, and quite comically I might add they were dubbed Denzel, Brad and Rain.

So, in concurrence with that let me enlighten you about Rainism, just as the Rainy season really does begin!

First of all, Rain is an awesome and very talented pop singer who debuted in 2002 with his hit album Bad Guy. [Actually, Rain’s first album is titled n001, and its first track release was the song “Bad Guy.” Rain’s wiki page needs to be corrected. — Stephe ^@@^ ] Since then he has created seven albums, one of which is Japanese, 19 singles and numerous concert tours around the world, including his biggest, which began the era of “Rainism.”

Secondly, he is an awesome dancer, busting better moves than Usher, a longtime hero of his. He was a back up dancer for various Korean pop-stars long before his rise to fame. You can check out his music video below to see him in action.

And thirdly, he is an accomplished actor, and not half bad at that. With a background and education in performing arts….

» You can read editor Brooke Petersen’s article in its entirety on the TESL Korea News site HERE.

This is a nice write-up on Rain, and we admire the TESL Korea News site itself because it brings English-speakers, English teachers in Korea, and locals and foreigners together interactively.  Not to mention, it is a great site for news and Korean culture.  Keep up the good work, TESL Korea. 🙂

•July 1, 2010 • 1 Comment

Looks like Lotte came through for us with Rain calendar wallpapers for July, but everyone else is suffering from SSS: Severe Slacker Syndrome.  What’s up with that?  The SK Telesys site is still sporting calenders for May and June as of this moment, and Nature Republic has no calendars—just wallpaper from last month (though it is gorgeous).  And J.Tune Creative… well, let’s just say they left the building a long time ago.

Rain makes these companies a heck of a lot of money.  Surely they can do something as simple as put up some monthly calendars for him.

I suppose we’ll all have to just start making our own, the way some Rain fans already do.  — Stephe ^@@^
