MTV World Cup of Rock: First round voting ends tonight!

[Cloud USA] So there you go. Qualifying round voting ends tonight at midnight Eastern Standard time. And sometime tomorrow morning, we will know who is going to the Final 8, their placements, and then the knock-out round matches will be on. My heavens, how exciting!

MTV Newsroom Blog 6/30/2010, 1 pm EST —

There is no action in the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday or Thursday, but the MTV World Cup of Rock continues through the end of today. All of the match-ups from the group round are still open for voting, and you’ll have until 11:59 PM ET to get the last of your votes in. On Thursday morning (July 1), the seedings for the eight team tournament will be revealed and the first batch of knockout round matches will be presented.

There are still plenty of games that have implications coming out of the first round, which is why you should get your votes in to get behind your favorite country’s batch of bands. Here are the headlines from each group…

Group B
Though they won their group in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the tournament was generally unkind to the American team. Shockingly, the MTV World Cup of Rock has also been rough on the United States, as their game against England will decide which of those teams will advance in the tournament (alongside dominant group leader South Korea, who launched a Rain-powered blitz on the competition). The U.S. and England are separated by less than 100 votes, so there is still time to throw your support behind whoever you think should advance….

Am I reading that correctly, in that Team Rain/All the Reds has mowed everyone down, and the US making it into the knockout round depends on its earlier match against England? Awesome (yes, my heart flounders for my motherland, my home turf, and I will continue to love her and she me, but hey, when it comes to Ji-Hoon, there’s just no contest. It can’t be helped.) As we understand it, this is the very first MTV World Cup of Rock, and Rain winning it this year in addition to his biggest badassery statuette would be the virtual gravy on our mashed potatoes.

Well, we shouldn’t take any chances, Clouds, as I could be misinterpreting the post. Let’s continue to push votes for Rain until 11:59 pm EST tonight (10:59 Central, 9:59 Mountain, 8:59 Pacific) and finish strong. Then take a well-deserved break, because you’ve earned it. You’re all just so amazing. Aja!

[6.30.2010] Love concert in Fukuoka and Osaka from the eyes of a New York Cloud

Love Concert in Fukuoka and Osaka unforgettable parts for me:

Zepp Fukuoka – The birthday cake battle in Fukuoka was unforgettable. The cake was prepared by Cloud Fanclub. Cutting cake part was the last part. All dancers and Baekga were invited on stage. After Rain made the birthday wish, one dancer started the cake battle. Haha, the scene was so funny! Anyway, the cakes and cream were throwing here and there. Suddenly, one dancer (I think Song Hong Shi) was holding the cake and pushed Rain’s head into the cake, and then others started to use cake cream to do facial treatment for our prince—haha. After all, Rain’s face was full of cream; he held still and asked someone to give him towel to swipe cream off.

Later, he asked camera lady to take pictures for him and all dancers. Then, he turned around; audiences become the background and [he] took pictures again. The final part was dance off. The strong beat dance music started, Rain asked dancers one by one, group by group, danced off on stage. Dance movement like flip over, Baekga did one arm hold up side down body position. Rain looked so concern when Baekga did this move on stage. Baekga received brain surgery around 6-7 months ago. He looked fully recovered. Thanks Lord!

Zepp Osaka – The MY GIRL part, Rain used the camera to scan over fans as previous Love concert. Then he chatted with one fan on the first row. She was a mother and came with her daughter (I think 24 years ago). He decided to select that mother fan and sang MY GIRL for her. The 1st Osaka night, he picked a teenager fan (16 years). Mother fan was so happy, Rain held her hand and walked on the 2nd level, and placed her on the chair. (Cuckoo guess Rain probably didn’t want us to feel jealous, he intentionally selected a mother fans, and he believed it was safe but he didn’t expect mother was also an aggressive fans as well–hahaha). Mother fan kept using her handkerchief to swipe his sweat, front head, face, front and back of his upper body…haha, Rain felt so embarrassed and kept laughing and called Mother (in Japanese). But mother didn’t stop moving her hands over his body. Rain couldn’t stop laughing or singing. He was so smart. He gave a bunch of flower and doll polar bear to her. (So, she had no hands to play around).

In 2 night Osaka Love Concert, Rain danced excellent at the final part dance battle. I extremely enjoyed his powerful jumped and kicked. He danced and sang with Baekga for “Instead of Saying Goodbye.” On the 2nd night, our prince said his zipper of pant was broken, so a jacket tied around his waist to cover (but I doubted if it is truth or he tried to joke fans–haha). When he sang Sept 12, he sat on the left and right corner steel bars on 2nd level stage or sometimes on the staircase between main and 2nd level. The atmosphere was so romantic.

There was a technical problem, Hip Song couldn’t run successfully until the 3rd time. Or, this is a plan of our naughty prince, it was so cute seeing him to make mistakes and did 3 times or more. The first night he wore blue and the second night was orange costumes. During Hip Song, he kept playing with other dancers. One female dancer gave me a naughty face, our little prince could hold to smile. Captain and Song gave him a push, he laughed again.

All these scenes made me feel warm; just want to say You must live happily! Stay healthy!

[Cloud USA] Rain’s characters in the popular free-to-play first person shooter online game Sudden Attack (서든어택, developed by the South Korean company GameHi) are being updated in time for the summer season. To your left is one of those updates. Looking good.

As we understand it, all of the website content will be reviewed and redone on a large scale and presented in a Sudden Attack Summer Update. Sounds like a lot of gamers are going to be super-happy.

Lotte’s still lovin’ us… in Japanese.

Remember back on June 15, when a » revamped Lotte So I’m Loving You CF was released with new additions JaeChuSu? That was the Korean version, and and this is the Japanese one. Same commercial spot, a very different sound. Both languages sound great to our ears, especially coming from Rain and our other favorite K-hunks.

Incidentally… I did have a terribly sad moment watching Park YongHa in this after his apparent suicide yesterday. It’s just so awful. You were tortured in life, but we hope you can rest in peace, YongHa. See you at the Crossroads. 😦 — Stephe ^@@^

[Cloud USA] Poor guy! This Mnet entertainment news report covers the male stars that fans want to see single and unattached forever. Our Ji-Hoon comes in at numero tres. Awww, no… !

He has so much affection to give, and in return, he would soak a woman’s love up like a sponge. At some point, when he’s older and more settled and ready, Rain should have a wife and children like anyone else, if that is his desire. What a proud daddy he’d be, don’t you think? Doting on his kids like crazy. And personally, I believe that that’s the only way he will truly lay down the burden he’s been carrying for so long—when he feeds his children well and keeps them safe and warm, thus breaking his own chain of starvation and suffering. Rain is a very sensitive man, and that’s just my take on things.

In giving this more thought… to my knowledge, this poll only said “male stars that fans want to see single,” not “demand to see single.” I think the majority of us want him to be single in our fantasies, sure, but at the same time we prefer his happiness above all else. Right?

Japan’s comedy actor Dakenaka Naoto will join drama Runaway (Domanja).

Newsis 6/29/2010 — Japan’s comedy actor Dakenaka Naoto (54 years old) will join KBS 2 TV’s new drama Fugitive, starring Rain. According to the drama production, on the 29th, he’ll act as a character called “Hiroki” who is a political & economic leader during the day, but a boss of Yakuza crime syndicates during the night. “Hiroki” in the drama looks tough, but underneath he’s very soft-hearted.

Dakenaka Naoto has appeared in over 100 movies and 10 dramas, and his face has become quite well-known in Korea through his movies, ‘Shall We Dance?’, ‘Water Boy’, ‘Nodame Cantabille’, etc.

Jung Ji-Hoon (Rain), Lee Na-Young, Lee Jung-Jin, Daniel Henney, Sung Dong-Il, Gong Hyung-Jin, Jo Hee-Bong, etc., will appear in Fugitive, which is a tale that takes place [when] a large sum of money [that disappeared in 1950, during the Korean War, reappears in 2010, after 60 years. ^@@^]

The main characters in the drama will be engaged in a chase across Asia’s cities [in] its dynamic plot line.

This drama will be aired at the end of September.

[Cloud USA] We have no idea if there is a dedicated Türk Music Asia web page out there or not (we haven’t found it yet), but this Top 40s pop chart for the third week of June certainly is out there on an awful lot of other music sites—in Japan, Vietnam, Turkey, and other countries. We like it because it brings different pop worlds together and celebrates them all.

There are 28 Korean pop and Japanese pop artists/groups on this chart (a lot), including MBLAQ. And the Number 1 spot will surprise you. (We wish this chart had been ongoing back when Love Song and Hip Song first hit the air. We wonder where Rain might have placed on it…?) How many of your K-pop and J-pop favs are here? Were any of you already aware of T-pop?

Each of these national soccer teams suffered crushing defeats on Saturday (June 16), as neither South Korea nor the United States could spin their late rallies into victories against Uruguay and Ghana, respectively. But in the World Cup of Rock, they are the two favorites to advance out of Group B, so this match will essentially decide which team will win the group outright. Will it be the Rain-fueled South Korean team, or will it be the United States of America, this time represented by Paramore, Kings of Leon and Taylor Swift, the dominant Tennessee contingent? (posted on 6.28.2010) Hello, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to you.

When I woke up in the morning, it was drizzling. At that time, what comes to my mind first was, “Isn’t it hard for my fans to wait for my concert while the rain?” However, I get excited when I think about my fans who’ll be filled with anticipation about my concert while entering the venue. I think you’ll come to my concert even in Fukuoka after Tokyo, but I let out a sneeze during my concert in Tokyo because I had a slight cold, which seemed to occasion your much anxiety.

Your pray for me can help me get well fast.

During my Zepp Tour, both teams, Korea and Japan, have advanced into the quarterfinals in the 2010 Worldcup. So, I’m very happy. I hope both teams will make it through to the semifinals. Korea and Japan teams, cheer up!

I’ve heard that there were a number of inquires from Japanese blogs whether I ate sea mustard soup on my birthday. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. I just managed to take some time off to relax in the hotel, because I was coming down with a cold. My staffs prepared a cake and celebrated my birthday before my rehearsal.

You sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me during my concert in Fukuoka, So, at that moment, I could feel something touching from the depth of my mind surging up. Indeed, I felt it is you that are the spring of my energy. Thank you for coming to my Zepp Tour. I’ll do my best even in Osaka, Nagoya, Sendai, Sapporo, and Saitam Super Arena after Fukuoka.

I’ll be willing to wait for you till we meet again.

Gina Choi’s July debut song is a duet with Rain.

K Bites 6/28/2010 — Hot issue… before her official debut, 5Girls member Gina Choi is set for debut and her debut song will be a duet song with singer Rain.

The song will be revealed on 5th July. And being a newcomer and already doing a duet song with big star Rain, much interests has been garnered for her upcoming debut.

It is known that currently Gina is preparing for her debut stage. Her agency commented, “Gina has received acknowledgment for her capabilities as leader in 5Girls. In terms of dance, singing and charms, Gina is a rare newcomer who excels in every field. We are anticipating great results for her debut.”

Trio of Chuno veterans return for Runaway.

Dramabeans 6/27/2010 — Three familiar faces from Chuno will be back for the writer-director pair’s new drama Runaway, adding some solid talent to the supporting cast. In Chuno, Sung Dong-il had played the slightly unhinged slave hunter Jin-ho, Gong Hyung-jin played escaped slave Up-bong, and Jo Hee-bong was Kkeut-bong.

In Runaway, Sung Dong-il again shows off his sly side, this time as a Korean-Japanese gyopo who is a wily private eye named Nakamura Hwang. (He’ll be pulling double-duty, since he’s also been cast in a comic role for My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, which will also air in the fall.) Gong Hyung-jin plays Rain’s supporter in China, Master Jang….

[Cloud USA] “Y” did MBLAQ shed tears yesterday?

[Cloud USA] MBLAQ turned in a hot, sharp performance on Sunday’s Inkigayo (Popular Songs). It is one of our favorite “Y” comeback stages, to date. A wetness from the left eye and down onto the cheekbone of G.O and Mir can easily be seen, and Joon-nie has a tear trail clear down his face. Well, word on the street is that this was part of the performance itself, an additional element to keep things fresh and interesting.

It looks to us at second glance that all five of the Boys have the same special glitter and eyeliner job on that left eye, and as you all know, makeup can be an irritant. Glitter, hot stage lights, and a little perspiration can also make for nice optical illusions. Joon’s tear trail was certainly no illusion, however, and whether real or strategically placed, it worked in perfectly with his character’s angst over the girl that “done him wrong.” Nice touch!

Seung-Ho was really working it, wasn’t he? They all put some extra umph in their step this week. Loved the outfits, the set, and the earthquake effect. Way to go, Boys. 🙂

What? Seriously? Not only have Team Tae-Guk and the US both been eliminated on the same day, but the US was eliminated by the same team as in the last World Cup, by the same score. *weeping bitter tears* Boy, talk about hurting our feelings. (We love you anyway, never fear. Both teams. We always will, boys! And we look forward to the next Cup. 🙂 )

On the Asian front, looks like it’s up to the Japan Blues to make it to the Final 8 and represent.

Fukuoka started to rain early in the morning of 25 June. My friends and I smiled. A good omen – our prince brought rain wherever he went for a concert. This promised to be a great night!

When we arrived at Zepp Fukuoka, my Japanese friend told me that our prince had just been there. He was in one of the shops. He bought an umbrella too because of the rain! Then he got back to the hotel right next to Zepp Fukuoka.

I went into a shop to look for a pair of high heel shoes, because every inch counted in this concert if you wanted to have a better glimpse of our prince on stage. I didn’t know how the conversation started, but the salesman mentioned about concert, and I told him that indeed I was here for a concert. Immediately his eyes brightened and said loudly “Rain!” When I told him yes I was here for Rain’s concert, he was so happy that he gave me a high five! It was such a nice feeling when you knew that people around all knew about our prince, and they seemed to like him genuinely. He then told me that Rain was at their shop earlier on. He looked so proud about this and we had another high five again.

Crowds started to form outside the concert hall around 4 pm. A sea of colourful umbrellas this time. Everyone was wet as water dripped from umbrella tips into our clothes, bags and shoes. To us, this was the least thing to worry about, my friends and I had to work out back and forth our strategy – where we should stand so that we could avoid being too much of a sardine again tonight, and to allow ourselves a better view of our prince.

And our strategy worked extremely well tonight! We gave up the central view and stood to the left side of the stage. Though we were blocked by a column and could not see our prince when he walked down the stairs from the high stage, throughout the night we had very close, very clear view of ALL his movements. We even had space to dance and to jump.

After “Rainism” and “It’s Raining”, our prince told us that he caught cold and had a flu. He apologized that he may not be able to sing his songs well. Indeed our prince seemed to have a blocked nose, and he sneezed quite often during the show. But his apology proved to be modesty, because he delivered a great performance as ever despite the flu.

Choosing his girl for “My Girl” was much shorter tonight, probably our prince already knew whom he wanted to date. He panned his camera across the hall. I held up my light board. He zoomed at it and said “Hong Kong.” Made my day!

He then zoomed to a middle-aged lady who had a Korean national flag painting on her face. She tried to avoid the camera. Our prince encouraged her to show her face and asked for her name and age. It turned out that she’s from Korea. Our prince then asked the audience that since today was his birthday, if he could choose a Korean lady to come up the stage! (I learned this from my Japanese friend who tried to explain to me in Korean. My Korean is not good so I may have misunderstood what she meant. Please read this as a story and not a factual report.) The lady seemed choked with emotion. Our prince was very nice, very gentle to her and this melted her nervousness. She finally smiled. Of the three dates so far, I found this one most touching.

Our prince talked more tonight than in the second Zepp Tokyo concert. I might have the order mixed up so again please bear with me. Even without any translation I knew the part about the 10s, 20s, 30s, etc. statistics. But tonight it seemed there was a very young kid, and we all knew how fond of kids our prince was. So he talked to him and said “You are cute. I love you.” He also challenged some fans about their age against their appearance!

Prince Rain tried to count the various Love Tours and he missed Nagoya. When some fans told him about this, he pretended to challenge the fans and asked why he had to go to Nagoya (my guess. I hope someone could tell us exactly what he said. He did mention “why”, he did mention “Nagoya” a couple of times. Such was the pain when you didn’t know the language…) Indeed from my Japanese friend our prince did talk about language and said he is studying hard the English language, so we should also study hard Korean!
