Thank heavens Rain is always—ALWAYS—live-mic’d. Any other kind of performance would come nowhere close to doing him justice. What a set of pipes. I mean oh-em-gee. ♥ Do enjoy this Blast from the summer of 2009, when Rain was in Macao for his SixToFive fashion concert.

So, picking up from last week’s limo ride to the TIME 100 Gala venue…
Mr. Calm-Cool-and-Collected arrives at Lincoln Center, alights from his sleek transportation, and begins his walk as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for 2011. Those of you who remember our previous posts “It rained pandemonium on the TIME 100 Red Carpet, Part 1” and “Part 2” know that I used that word—pandemonium—correctly. That was exactly what it was! Things were relatively quiet, even with the major stars posing for pictures on the TIME Red Carpet, until Rain showed his face. His arrival signaled mayhem, bedlam, a figurative volcanic eruption of sound, and NOT just from Rain fans.
CloudUSAers and New York Clouds were there, all right, but in small contingents. What contributed even more to that amazing wall of sound were other female and male spectators and the Media, who were almost rabid in their desperation to get a good glimpse of him and a good picture. It was almost frightening. I wasn’t even there, they weren’t shouting my name, and I still had the urge to take off running before the hordes broke loose or something. LOL! Wow.
(I have to stop here and, once more, thank Gigi_rou, Diva, Stormy, and Tara for making the trek to New York so that the rest of us could live vicariously through them, and for being so sweet as to share time with lone Rain fan novaries when they ran into her. That goes for Scorpiola, and for Cuckoo too. Thank you so much, all of you, for your pictures, fan accounts, and videos. You truly made the Rainiverse a happy place!)
And now we are inside the building, headed for the main part of the Carpet. *gasp* There are some Rain fans waiting in there too! WOW. There’s Ronnie Yang in his smart bow tie. Both men look wonderful. Rain’s stature immediately sets him apart, of course, as he is head and shoulders above just about everyone there. Gosh. So handsome. I tell you what—if I’d been the woman checking him into the event, I would have been thinking, No, no, Mr. Rain, do not help me with your wristband, dear… let me just take my time and fumble with it a bit so that this moment is drawn out for as long as possible the thing is on really well. Hehe.
(Listen to that! Doesn’t matter how far he walks into the place. Around every single corner, he hears Rain! Rain…! Even male voices. Bi!!!) After graciously signing an autograph, he looks a little nervous as he and Ronnie get closer and closer to the point of no return, a place he hasn’t been to since 2006. And who wouldn’t be gittery, honestly, considering the star power waiting for him to come down that Carpet and through the Gala door? Holy smokes. Bless his heart. 🙂
The familiar smile comes back when he’s talking to KBS. I had to laugh myself when it looked like his checker wanted to smack the KBS guy upside the head and say, “Wrap it UP, dude, so I can get this man inside the flippin’ event, if ya don’t mind! WTH?” LOL! And again, the army of photogs along the Carpet are like a pack of hungry wolves, barking their commands, determined to get the shot. Ronnie comes to the rescue and gets our Man safely into the elevator going up, but not before perhaps one of Rain’s filming crew calls out a final “JiHoon-ssi! Mr. Rain!” and gets a last shot before he disappears from sight.
Later, the Gala is over, and there is time for a bit of reminiscing on the now-empty Carpet and a few autographs before heading for his hotel. As he sits in the limo and chatters with us some more, Rain looks pretty doggone delighted. As well he should. (What the devil is he saying? *huhuhu!* It hasn’t been eleven whole days but I am crying like a mofo because I just don’t know! *sniffle*)
And with that, we are done and gone. See you next Saturday, fans! Care to place any bets as to what he’ll be doing in the next episode?
Omo!! BongSun broke up with Rain! But it’s okay if life is spicy because Haechandle Red Hot Pepper Paste is just yummy! Thumbs up. (LOL! I love it.) 😀
All of you who read the article in the media this weekend knew that this newest CF was on its way, and what to expect, and is it hilarious or what? If the report was true, it doesn’t surprise me that Rain suggested working with comedienne BongSun on this project because, after all, she is one of the funniest and hardest working women in South Korea. Love her! Heheh.
I would think that there would be a longer 30sec spot for this coming as well, perhaps… and will there be yet another installment in this “story” after that? Stay tuned.
*PLEASE Note (and I can’t believe I’m actually having to SAY THIS): For anyone out there who hasn’t realized it by now… this Rain/Shin BongSun relationship isn’t real. It’s just a joke for the commercial, and BongSun and Rain are both in on it. Okay? O__o
Enjoy the CF, fans!

Anchorwoman : It’s truly shocking piece of news. It is said that ‘Shin Bong Sun’ has declared her intent to separate from Bi (Rain), ‘Jung Ji Hoon’.

Rain : I’ve got dumped by her? My goodness! Unbelievable!

Since it’s made from Haechandle’s sun-dried red pepper, it’s tasty and spicy. Haechandle red hot pepper paste which has gone to number one over four consecutive years. Haechandle running on the timetable of nature.
[*Edited to Add: By the way, this truly tickled me about to death. My father (retired military) calls Terri “the General” because she makes it her business to keep him in line. No joke. “Have you talked to the General today? Tell her I have been behaving and not to put me on report.” *he peers at me sideways* LOL! ^@@^] [From The General to Dad: You’d better be. :-}]
장군이 (JangGun-ie) is as cute as the dickens, ain’t he? ♥ (All of you K-Drama fans out there who love period dramas know that 장군 (jang-gun) means “General”, something the subordinate soldiers are always shouting when there is a problem to report, hehe.) And it sure is great to see the infamous Mickey Mouse boxers again! (how long has it been, since ZEPP Japan?) Haha.

Idol Stars Who Have Made Movie Appearances…?
[Rain excerpt]
Rain in “I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK” & “Speed Racer” & “Ninja Assassin”
Not only does Rain know how to dance and sing, he really knows how to act! This multi-talented world star has had relatively ample acting experience through numerous movie and drama appearances as the male lead. His solid performances have led him to win various drama and movie awards, such as the 43rd Baeksang Arts Awards for Best New Actor in 2006 for his performance in “I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK.” He also appeared in Hollywood films, Speed Racer (2008) and Ninja Assassin (2009). Last year, he became the first Korean to win a MTV Movie Award by receiving the Biggest Badass Star award!
What a treat, finding Rain’s new aerial blockbuster movie on Korean Cinema Today‘s list of 20 Korean films to look out for in 2011. Nice.
HOWEVER… How deflating to read the article and realize that Rain’s name is nowhere in the actual article itself. Nowhere in the whole darn article. Even though he’s the LEAD. That’s like introducing readers to the Terminator movies and not mentioning Schwarzeneggar… writing about Top Gun and not mentioning Tom Cruise… writing about Troy but not mentioning that Brad Pitt plays Achilles. Really? Wow. *shrug*
[20 Korean Films to Look Out for Second Half of 2011] “Flight: Close to the Sun”
Flying the Sky with Rain
“Flight: Close to the Sun”
Directed by Kim Dong-weon
By NA Won-jung
The film’s story is related to the original “Red Muffler”, directed by the legendary Korean director SHIN Sang-ok in 1964. The original film used the Korean War as its background, dealing with the passion and the love of F-86 Saver jet fighter pilots, and bringing in the most audiences in Seoul at the time and won countless domestic film awards in the process. The new version of Red Muffler reflects the changes in time and deals with the pilots of the new F-15K fighters, yet it still brings the nostalgia from 47 years ago.
This is Korea’s first-ever ‘aerial action blockbuster’, co-produced and exclusively distributed by CJ E&M Film Business Division. Director Kim Dong-weon, whose previous works include “My Boss, My Teacher” (2006), and “City of Damnation” (2009) proclaimed of displaying brilliant and detailed visuals, combining them with love and friendship of young couple, as well as aerial action scenes full of liveliness and realistic stunts. The leading character is Tae-hoon, an Air Force captain who’s a member of ‘Black Eagle’, Korea’s elite air force. He is transferred to combat force with F-15K and creates conflict on his first day with Cheon-hee, a top gun at F-15K squad who’s also a deep believer in principle, and is disciplined. In midst of such, an aerial situation with North Korea promptly takes place as Tae-hoon and his colleagues board on the jet fighters and take off without the guarantee of returning safely.
The film features an impressive cast, including Yoo Joon-sang of “Moss” fame playing Cheol-hee and solid supporting casts including JO Seong-ah (“The Yellow Sea”), Oh Dal-soo (“Detective K”) among others. What’s more, unlike the original “Red Muffler” with female leads playing bartenders at a nearby Air Force Camp bar, the new version features two of the ‘blue chip’ actresses in Korea today, Sin Se-kyeong (“Blue Salt”) and Lee Ha-na (“The Fair Love”) both playing talented Air Force serviceperson, making the film even more interesting.
Last year, during Rain’s Back To The Basic comeback stages, his appearance on variety talk show Win Win was one of those events that we all anxiously waited for. Many programs had been recorded but delayed out of respect for the victims of the horrible Cheonan navel tragedy, and so during April and May it was difficult to tell when—or if—anything would air at all. (Even the B2TB mini-album’s release and comebacks were held off for a good week.)
When Win Win did air on KBS 2, it turned out to be well worth the wait and an absolute study in hilarity, with Rain’s hyungs and previous co-stars making appearances (much to his surprise!) and with him seeming to reveal personal things he hadn’t meant to. (I say “seeming” because come on, Rain never says or does anything in public or on the air that he hadn’t intended to. He’s waaaay too smart for that. He is candid and spontaneous, yes, but nothing about his personal life that is off-limits to the public ever passes his lips, and the same goes for MBLAQ. That’s how TV works behind the scenes and makes for great ratings.) The show even included the wrestling matches he and the Men had with bona fide wrestlers in the streets of Seoul! Oh, it was great. (And here is a preview on the news.)
…so imagine my complete delight when, yesterday, the wonderful Pikeyenny made this episode available again on her blog. English-subbed. I love her! 😀
Get to it, fans! Enjoy revisiting Win Win episode 10, featuring Rain. Let us walk down Memory Lane and reminisce. Those of you who are really new and haven’t seen it before, do chime in too. Have fun, everyone!

As you may recall, the 20-episode Fugitive premiered in South Korea last September 2010 and has aired all across the planet in many countries, including the U.S.A., in the time since. The last premiere we heard of before Singapore was in Japan, this past April 2011.
JiWoo is still going strong, everyone, and we are glad to hear it!
Now have a look at their personal video of Rain all over the Semperoper stage that wonderful night in Dresden, this past May 19.
K-Colors was there for Rain’s rehearsal and allowed to film portions of it, in addition to parts of the Rain/Vogler concert itself for their readers and for Rain fans, which is what you see here in the video. They also talked to some of the fans who came to the show, and those interviews (in German) are in the June edition of K-magazin.
I can certainly see why there was excitement in Terri’s voice last night when she asked me, over the phone, if I’d seen MBLAQ’s “Mona Lisa” comeback stage on Mnet’s music show M!Countdown. Now that I have seen it, no wonder she was so stoked! I mean WOW, Boys.
The new look and new song, with its Spanish/Italian/French flair and name, were already a hit with us when J.Tune released the music video. But with this “Mona Lisa” TV comeback performance, you see a whole new vibe, how the Boys have evolved yet again, a sharp togetherness in their movements and a cohesiveness in their talent as a group that will leave you delighted. They have truly worked hard. LOVE the international flavor—Mir is sporting a modified Old Glory, SeungHo (whose degree of hotness has amped up about a 1000 degrees here) is flashing a modified Union Jack, and G.O’s marching band jacket screams of Europe and a few other places, at least in my eyes. Did anyone else notice that? Isn’t it the coolest thing ev-vah? 😀
Surely, all the A+s the world over (an A+ is to MBLAQ what a Cloud is to Rain) loved this performance.
I tell you, if you’re not a BLAQ girl, you should be!
This first one is pretty much a bona fide Blast From The Past, really, if not the ultimate BFTP. It is the clearest version to date that I’ve seen of 비 being showcased and introduced to Korea as a principle dancer (KBS Music Plus, 2001). This was the year before his debut as a singer/idol, and will always be one of the most precious videos I’ve ever come across. Just precious. (We still wonder how he managed to move his body like that!)

And this jewel is 비, barely a month past his April 2002 debut, on an MBC idol game show hosted by radio personality Park KyungLim. I tell you, even without a translation, at times this thing had me hollering. 비 having to successfully eat an orange while being slingshot up into the air? ROFLMAO!

It’s great to get to revisit Rain’s stint in Germany during his collaboration with renowned cellist Jan Vogler. N-i-c-e. Talk about “eating your Wheaties”… 🙂

Speech! Speech! In September, Rain received a presidential citation award for being a role model when it came to saving money for the future, at an event put on by the International Bankers Association in Seoul.
Dear lord, what a Christmas it was! (If only I’d been there!) These are my absolute favorite and the doggone best fan cams of LoR Vegas I’ve ever seen. And I LOVE these fan cammers. They provided some of the best color commentary and outright flailing that I’ve ever heard—they will have you grinning. LOL! I’ve no idea how they kept that camera so still, but I sure do appreciate it.
I was feeling the need to remind myself that yes, Rain has kicked concert tail on our soil a time or two (more, actually), and magnificently, so I dug these out of the vault for a revisit. No matter what goes on overseas, we’llalways have Vegas. (And Madison Square Garden, and the Hollywood Bowl…) Please enjoy. 🙂
P.S.: Video #1 contains one of those rare non-Rain moments that cuts off my breath. Right at the 4:00 minute mark, the Gori-fied one performs his “Touch Ya” solo and flings that body and gorgeous hair in a way that gives me shivers. Heavens! ♥

Have fun revisiting these lovely CFs, and let CJ know how much we appreciate being able to see both of them on their site in the comments. Show them that where there’s Rain, there’s buzz.
Thanks for supporting Rain, everyone!
Hopefully a new CF featuring Rain and their chili sauce product will come out soon. *fingers crossed*
But seeing as the KBS News caption in this report, aired on July 13, roughly translates to “Rain, won the fake news media” (가수 비, 허위보도 언론사에 승소), we are wondering if this clip is about the recent judgment handed down for the libel committed against Rain.
Probably so.

For folks not familiar with that Southern Black saying, let me put it this way: What goes around will come back around and bite you in the ass, so let it be a lesson. It’s one thing (and your right) to not like a person. It’s quite another to try to destroy a life with a lie.
They’re lucky Rain was more concerned with clearing his name than with money and didn’t hit them up for even more, which he would have gotten. That says a lot about his character, and people should take note.
(50 million KRW = $48,000 and some change USD, at current market rates. ^@@^)

Star News/Nate 7/13/2011 — [English translation by rain bird @rain-eu.]
The court orders two reporters to pay totaling 50 million won in damages, who manufactured maliciously false news on Rain
Last October, Rain filed a compensation suit against two reporters who manufactured maliciously false news on him.
For this reason, a libel action was being brought against the reporters.
The two reporters reported that Rain defrauded the corporation of over 4.6 billion won, and the report has turned out to be false.
The case was decided in favor of the plaintiff (Rain) on the 13th, and the Seoul Central District Court ordered ‘Kim’ and ‘Yu’ to pay 30 million won and 20 million won in damages, respectively, after it judged they had libeled Rain.

And the reaction from the Man himself, who tweeted the original article to the world earlier today:

“Thank you for your feedback always^^ and thank you for the nice birthday presents for me…From your nice guy..hahaha..”
The huge Rain billboard below, advertising Haechandle red chili sauce, was spotted by a Rain fan in Korea the other day. Not only is it perfect for a Rain About Town post where Rain is once again larger than life… it’s also the perfect opportunity for me to practice reading Hangul and try to improve myself for my teachers before my next class. So here goes.
I verbally sound out the syllables on the billboard: Haechandeul taeyangcholamas-issgemabda. Then I type the Korean characters (해찬들 태양초라맛있게맵다) into a dictionary to check my Romanization: Haechandeul taeyangcholamas-issgemaebda. Not bad! I did put a wrong vowel in the second to last syllable, though (in blue). Grrr. *knocking myself upside the head*
Other than Haechandle (the brand) and taeyang (the sun, or solar), I’ve no idea what the rest means. So let’s go to our trusty online translator: “Haechandle taeyangcho second spicy called delicious tastes hot”. And so there you go—a massive ad hovering over the city with a guy named RAIN telling you how utterly hot and delicious Haechandle’s sun-grown chili pepper product tastes. How you’re only seconds away from spicy flavor. Or something to that effect.
Thanks for sharing this lesson with me, y’all. It really helps, a lot.
K-Pop Fans Converge on New York City’s Central Park for Flash Mob Dance
As the Korean Wave of popular culture known as Hallyu becomes a worldwide phenomenon, local fans of Korean pop music, or K-Pop, joined forces in New York to call for more K-Pop performances with a dancing flash mob in Central Park on June 6.
The performance may not have been a shock to bystanders, situated in the open grassy space of the 843-acre park, but more than 130 fans of diverse nationalities and backgrounds gathered to have their voices heard.
Their campaign, initiated as a Facebook group, aims to encourage Korean artists to venture into the American market and hold more concerts there.
“Come to New York, Shinee!” and “Tae Min, I’m here” read a sign in Korean held by Cris Segara, 20, who says she studies Korean by reading the subtitles on the K-Pop star’s videos.
The performers prepared for more than a month, combining the choreography of some of K-Pop’s most popular groups, such as Super Junior, Girl’s Generation, Shiny, and Dong Bang Shin Ki.
Mary Stelloui, 17, of Delaware, expressed her excitement by dancing to her favorite K-Pop music together with others who share the same dream of meeting their Korean idols one day.
Miranda Ditmore, 14, of Bronx Riverdale, said she learned about K-Pop three years ago from her older sister and was immediately fascinated with the music and the artists. She also practiced the group’s dance moves for weeks in order to participate in the event.
The rising interest in K-Pop worldwide is serving as a new medium of public diplomacy for Korea, and is especially fitting for younger generation.
After the flash mob performance, the participants all moved to a local Korean restaurant on 32 Street in New York’s Korea Town for some Korean cuisine.
I enjoyed reading this write-up and appreciate the Boys sharing their latest hopes and thoughts. This is great stuff indeed.
I wish people would listen to them about crossing the line between being a fan and being a stalker. The degree to which the “stalkage” has escalated all across the KPop world is just awful these days, and not just on the streets. I’m also talking about intentionally invasive and unbalanced actions on the Internet, on Twitter, on Facebook, you name it. It’s amazing how easily fans justify their bad behavior in their own minds and think nothing of it, as if it somehow makes them attractive to their idols (when it doesn’t, they just want to run the hell away from you). Wow.
MBLAQ on their fans, their individual goals, and how they resolve conflicts
For the second half of their TV Report interview, MBLAQ answered questions concerning their status as idols. As grateful as they are for fans and their support, the group spoke honestly about the difficulties they face because of their fans as well.
Mir said, “Our fans do everything they can for us. We’re very thankful for them and for anybody who even likes us at all.” He made sure to add, “But as grateful as we are, we hope that nobody will go to extremes like skipping school or waiting in the snow or rain because of us anymore.”
Lee Joon agreed, “There are fans who follow me around even when I’m out for personal business. They stop following me if I ask them to, but I feel sorry if I have to ask all the time.”
Thunder said, “It seems like there’s a separate family fandom for me and my sister, Sandara of 2NE1. We’re very thankful of course, but there are some fans who follow my mother and other sister around even though they aren’t celebrities.”
==
– “We’ll stay up all night to resolve any issues we have with each other.”
Conflicts are inevitable, but MBLAQ shared that their method of resolving issues with each other is simply to talk it out.
Leader Seungho noted, “We’re all adults and we have similar music styles so we don’t fight with each other often. When the occasional disagreement comes up, we talk about it and make sure to listen to the other person’s opinion. That’s how we work things out. But like I said, we don’t fight often. I could probably count all of the arguments we had on one hand alone. If we don’t have time in our schedules to talk about an issue during the day, we’d probably stay up all night in order to put it to rest.”
==
– “MBLAQ, a group with many different colors.”
MBLAQ doesn’t have as many solo activities as other idols these days. Lee Joon has taken steps as an actor, and G.O is now making appearances on KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘; however, the other members are finally ready to make individual show appearances now as well.
“I wanted to go on variety shows too,” Seungho said. “I’m ready any time if anybody wants me on their show.” Although he’s currently taken some time off school, he’s enrolled as a film/arts major and so fans have been hoping for his debut as an actor. Unfortunately, he stated, “I don’t have any plans to act yet. I don’t think it’d be too late even if I went into acting after I hit my thirties, after MBLAQ has become successful.”
G.O has been receiving praise lately for his vocal abilities through ‘Immortal Song 2.’ He said, “I’m relieved that I was able to put my name out there through the show. Even though it’s been two years since MBLAQ’s debut, nobody recognized me as the main vocalist.”
Lee Joon demonstrated his acting potential through ‘Ninja Assassin‘ and ‘Jungle Fish 2‘, but humbly stated, “I still have a long ways to go in order to achieve perfection. I think I need to study and practice acting a lot more, but for now I want to focus on MBLAQ.”
==
-”We want to become a multi-talented group.”
Thunder and G.O are currently both writing and composing. Thunder said that he wants to release a solo album while emphasizing that he definitely still loves being in the group. “I want a solo album so that I can show my true music tastes, which differs slightly from that of MBLAQ. After “Mona Lisa” promotions, you never know. My self-composed tracks might erupt out of nowhere.” He also stated that he dreams of not only of releasing a solo album, but of trying out acting as well. It’s said that he decided upon his dream of being an entertainer after hearing Rain’s song, “It’s Raining“.
Lastly, Mir showed his affection for rapping with, “Although I wanted to participate in making the raps for this album, DOK2 is actually the one who wrote them all. He’s very talented so I was able to learn a lot from him while watching him work.” Mir also chose the underground rapper as his role model.
