[article] The Best Sharp Shooter Out Of The Celebrity Soldiers Is?

Wow, look! An article about celebrity soldiers and their leave time that doesn’t bash Rain. Maybe because there was no reason for that dingbat Korean newspaper to bash Rain in the first place, except to sell its rag.

An informative write-up on the many celeb-soldiers serving the ROK, in my honest opinion. Thank you, KDramaStars. 🙂 (Sergeant Yu Geon is out of there come December 1. Amen!) ^@@^

KDramaStars 10/7/2012 —

The Best Sharp Shooter Out Of The Celebrity Soldiers Is?

Out of the celebrity soldiers, who has the best physical condition, and who is the best at shooting?

According to the report that Kim Jin-pyo, a National Assembly Defense Committee member from the Department of Defense submitted on the 5th of October, singer Choi Jin(Mithra Jin) and actor Kim Ji Hoon are the ones who were classified as the special class soldiers when it comes to the physical fitness test. This was out of the list of celebrities since 2010. Out of the celebrity soldiers, singer Jung Ji Hoon(Rain) and Kang Chang Mo(KCM) and Kim Kyung Hoon(The Cross) were selected as fitness kings. In one minute, they did 72 pushups, and over 82 sit ups. They ran 3km in 12 minutes and 30 seconds.

Out of all of the celebrity soldiers, the best shooter was Lee Joon Gi. Out of 20 targets, he shot 19, and showed that he was the king of shooting. Out of the beginning celebrity soldier stages Lee Hyun Gyun(Jae Hee) Lee Dong Wook, Lee Sun Ho(Shinhwa Andy), out of the active duty soldiers, Jung Ji Hoon and Jo Jung Ik made 18 targets and made it to the expert shooter level. Jung Ji Hoon is one of the only ones that had an overall excellent transcript for his physical fitness test, making 90% of the shooting, and finished 30km march in 8 hours.

The celebrity soldier that went out on vacation the most was Lee Min Ho(Boom). Out of the 665 days of service, he received 150 days of vacation. Kim Yoon Sung(Dynamic Duo) had 116 days, Choi Jae Ho(Dynamic Duo) had 108 days, Lee Sun Ho(Shinhwa Andy) had 103 days of vacation.

Ordinary army soldiers are given 32 days of vacation and have a maximum of 50 days of break. However, the 30 celebrity soldiers that were discharged after year 2010 had an average vacation that was 76.4 days. However, since last year, the special leave has been decreasing. Now the celebrity vacation leave is similar to ordinary soldiers.

The celebrity soldier that is closest to discharging is actor Jo Jung Ik(Yoo Gun, December 1). Other than him, the other celebrities are discharged next year.

An Update on Rain’s Military Performance Schedule

•October 22, 2012 • 6 Comments

~Cloud Cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Lovely Clouds,

I have an update on Rain’s upcoming schedule for you.

According to the MMA’s tweet below, the Enlistment Cultural Festival planned for today has been cancelled because of rain.  NO, not because of Rain the entertainer, but because of rain the weather.  Ha ha ha.  :-}

Tweet’s English Translation (by 화니):  “Enlistment Cultural Festival”, originally scheduled for today (Oct.22), has been postponed due to rain. We’ll let you know when the next schedule is set through Twitter.”

[screencap courtesy of The Cloud and Ratoka]

According to The Cloud, Rain is scheduled to perform in the Consolatory Train at the Army General Administration School, on October 23.   Friends 96.7’s announcement (see below) appears to confirm this. We will see.  His next performance after that will be as part of the Consolatory Train at the Marine 2nd Infantry Division on October 26.

Let us know if you see any good videos or fancams from any of these events.

Thanks,

Terri :-}

Oh how we’ve sorely missed Rain’s presence.

The K-pop superstar-actor has been pretty much out of the limelight since he enlisted to serve the nation last October. …

Here in Atlanta, Rain being interviewed by Kim JaeWook on JaeWook’s military radio show radiojumam aired between 8:00 and 9:00 am, and so I was quite sleepy and bleary-eyed when I tuned in. But it turned out to be great listening, especially with my Cloud sisters on Twitter. So much fun. Having all those Rain songs back to back was worth the price of admission right there!

~2:11

[Kim Jae Wook] : Today’s guest made his debut as a member of boy band “Fan Club” in 1998, but the band received little attention in the public. Since going solo in 2002, he has been a celebrity in the public eye, leaving many hit songs, “Bad Guy”, “How To Avoid The Sun”, “Rainism”, etc. He is a singer and movie star who’s an all-around entertainer. He has turned himself into the world star since he appeared in several domestic dramas and films and Hollywood films such as Ninja Assassin, etc.

In 2006 and 2010, he was chosen as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine. It’s been one year since he joined the army. It’s corporal “Jung Ji Hoon” (Rain).

2:10~3:08

[Kim Jae Wook] : To be honest, I found it a bit too wordy. (laughs)

[Rain] : I was itching to talk back. (laughs) I think ‘Kim Jae Wook’s voice is well-suited to the calm atmosphere of the night. Seems like only yesterday that we were in this program six months ago. It’s so good to have you listeners back again.

3:09~5:03

[Kim Jae Wook] : How’s your physical condition?

Allkpop 10/17/2012 — written by: Miketastic

Way Back Wednesday: Best Dances 2001-2003

This will be the final part of the my look at the best dances from back in the day. I usually consider 2002 and early 2003 as the end of the “old school” era of K-pop because it was a transitional time for the music. Many of the original K-poppers had ended their lengthy runs and the industry began to see the growing influence of the next generation of stars but also familiar faces from your favorite groups out on their own and taking the next step in their careers.

For me, this period of music was the end of my initial fanboy love of K-pop. After this time, I kind of drifted off into the wilderness for a few years and wasn’t paying nearly as much attention as I had previously. While I’m back now and love K-pop more than ever, the music and dances of 2001-2003 have a special place in my heart and I can’t think of a better way to end this series than by bidding a fond farewell to the best era of K-pop.

Yahoo! Philippines 10.15.2012 — By Grace Danbi Hong | CJ E&M enewsWorld

MBLAQ Celebrates its Third Anniversary and Seung Ho′s Birthday

It was MBLAQ’s third birthday on October 15, 2012 and the members remembered to thank their fans for the support and love they’ve received over the three years since their debut.

It started off with Mir’s tweet on October 15, saying, “MBLAQ third year anniversary!! We became three years old at the dry sauna.

The picture attached showed Mir and Seung Ho at the dry sauna, slurping on some shikhae (sweet rice drink), while trying to hide with towels over their heads.

G.O. also took to his Twitter to say his thanks.

He wrote, “It’s already been three years since MBLAQ made its debut. Because each member was busy with his own stuff, we’re a bit sad and disappointed that we can′t express our hearts’ gratitude properly to all of our fans. T T. We will soon reach out to you with good news!! Thank you A+♥”

The MBLAQ members then got together to celebrate Seung Ho′s birthday, which is today (October 16), as Seung Ho then tweeted, “It’s my birthday!!!! Kekeke.”

His photo showed four members of MBLAQ posing for the camera, with the exception of Thunder.

MBLAQ released its first album Just BLAQ on October 14, 2009. The group stepped on a stage for the first time on October 15, 2009.

Awesome K-Pop Moment of the Week: The Cheers Debut

•October 15, 2012 • 5 Comments

~Cloud cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Well, actually this awesome moment happened last week, but I’m only just learning about it this week because I haven’t been online very much lately.  It happened on October 8, when a duo called The Cheers made their debut with a witty little ditty called “Ya!”  As Rain would say, “Have a listen.”  Then, we’ll talk.  :-}

The Cheers is comprised of vocalist and choreographer MyungMi and guitarist, writer, composer and producer Robin.  They are a super-talented duo and this is quite the cutesy pop song, don’t you think?  Well, sure you do.  Of course, if you’re like me, you have no idea what the heck they are saying other than the “hey you, come on” parts.  That being said, even though I don’t read or speak Korean, when certain English words and phrases started cropping up (“Pretense,” Shut up,” “I’ll Leave,” “My Honey, I’m not girl”), I began to realize that there was something else going on underneath the surface of this bubblegum pop extravaganza.  Something very sneaky.  LOL.

MTV’s Iggy calls the lyrics “witty” and says that the song even includes a subtle joke in the number sequences that has to do with the way the number 18 is pronounced.  I wondered why they seemed to be randomly counting up numbers.  Now I know.  If the number 18 (10 + 8) isn’t pronounced properly in Korean, it can be taken as the “F-word.”  Just so you’ll know.  Get it?  In the video MyungMi sings 10 + ? = .  LOL.  (Consider yourselves warned, Korean language students).  I’ve been looking for an English translation of the lyrics, but so far I’ve been unsuccessful.  Whenever I find English lyrics or an English-subbed video, I will certainly add it/them to this post, so all of us can be in on the joke.

The most interesting thing about this group to me, though, is not how clever they are with their music (Although, they do get an A+ for that from me!).  The most interesting thing to me is the fact that The Cheers is a co-ed group.  If you know anything about South Korea, then you will know that co-ed groups are extremely rare and not very popular.  You don’t believe me?  Just take a look at this list of South Korean idol groups on wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_South_Korean_idol_groups#2012.

According to this list, which looks relatively accurate to me, by the end of the year, 75 new South Korean idol groups will have debuted. Out of that 75, only one of them—The Cheers—is co-ed.  That makes them pretty special.  Another intriguing little tidbit is that out of the hundreds of groups that have debuted since the 1990’s only 16 of them were co-ed groups.  That’s right.  Only sixteen.  So, why so few co-ed groups?  Hm?

At first, I thought this was a strange phenomenon, unique perhaps to only South Korea.  After conducting a bit of research, though, I discovered I was wrong.  For some reason, I had been attributing the fact that there are so few Korean co-ed groups to South Korea’s conservative culture.  After all, everyone knows that in South Korea, boys and girls just don’t mix.  Right?  (Well, of course they DO mix, but not publicly—if you know what I mean.)  What I discovered was that co-ed groups are simply not the norm anywhere in the world.  Really.

You don’t believe me?  Just take a look at the current Billboard Hot 100 chart, as a example.  At #1 you’ve got Maroon 5 (boy band), at #2 PSY (male South Korean solo artist).  At #3 is One Direction (boy band).  At #4 is Some Nights (boy band).  #5 and #6 is Taylor Swift (girl solo artist).  #7 is Justin Bieber (boy solo artist).  And so forth and so on.

There is a co-ed duo listed at #11, with Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, but in this case those two are actually two separate artists working a collaboration.  So, technically they don’t count.  Then there’s Neon Trees at #13 (a co-ed band from California).  There’s also Karmin (Australian co-ed duo) way down at #70  and then there’s the Glee cast at #91, with “The Scientist.”  Other than that, they are mostly solo artists who might feature another artist or boy and/or girl groups.

Wow.  Who knew dissing co-ed groups was a cultural thing all over the world?  What a shocking nonfiction situation!  And if you’ve gotten this far and actually understood that comment, then I sincerely thank you.  😛

Happy K-Popping to ya.

Terri :-}

P.S.  Now if they’d just let Robin (the guy of the duo) sing.  And if I ever find an official website or YouTube page for the group, I’ll let you know that too.  So far, no luck.

Dear Overseas fans:

Please see the notice below, as released by RAINY Entertainment on Rain’s official website on October 12.  RAINY is now taking payment for the RAIN The Best Show Premium Limited DVD Package pre-orders that were placed from September through early October, and the gist of the notice is as follows:

1. The payment period is from October 15 through October 26.

2. Send your payment to rainyent.cloud@gmail.com through PayPal.

3. They will begin shipping DVDs (after confirming your payment) on October 19.

4. As already specified during the pre-order period, the package is $73. USD. Please check the list provided by RAINY to find out the delivery charge (according to your location) to add to your DVD package cost. The charge is shown in both Korean won and U.S. dollars, and is pretty accurate—I cross-checked the U.S. figures using the » CoinMill Currency Converter.

My guess is that, when we send in our PayPal payments, they will compare your name, country, and quantity with the name, country, and quantity they have on file in your original pre-order email, and thus know who is who. They might do another confirmation list with just names later, or not. I don’t know that at this time. Do read RAINY’s entire notice very carefully, and get your payments in by October 26 Korean Standard Time. Thanks, all.

Not only that… U Weekly Entertainment and Lifestyle is also using one of those covers and an R2B Rain banner for their Facebook profile picture and cover image, respectively. AND the banner for their Twitter background. Very cool indeed!
