One year ago today, our hearts were ripped out as we watched Jung JiHoon disappear through the gate of the Uijeongbu 306 Reserve Station to begin his mandatory two-year military duty to his country.
And though he was committed to doing the right thing and serving as a responsible South Korean man, his heart was ripped out as he left his family, his friends, his fans, his career, everything he’d ever known, and became the property of the ROK Armed Forces.

Please NOTE: As Rain mentioned on his Speeding Instinct show on Friends 96.7 FM military radio this past weekend, he and KCM will not be hosting Speeding this coming weekend due to a conflicting event on their schedules.
R2B: Return to Base has touched down on tarmacs in South Korea, the U.S. and Canada, and is on its way around the world. It has premiered in Vietnam and Thailand; now Hong Kong and Singapore are set for October, and Malaysia is set for November. Japan is set for December. Let’s see where else this bird is going to land!
Don’t be thrown off by the name changes in some countries. That kind of thing happens all the time in the industry, and it is for the good of the movie. For instance, I hear tell that when Captain America: The First Avenger was released in Russia, the Russian authorities decided to drop the “Captain America” because “The First Avenger” would play better to their audiences (for political reasons, I’ll bet, and I agree). It’s about getting more people into the theater. Everyone on the planet connects Soar Into The Sun, R2B, and Return to Base with RAIN, anyway. It’s no big deal, folks.
As of this moment, 6131 yellow ribbons for Rain have been added to Twitter and Facebook icons since the Brigade was started. Amazing! Rain passionately sings on stage, overcoming his back pain
“I would like to thank you all for coming here and for giving me your love. Loyalty!”
When singer Rain serving in the army, came on stage, the audience cheered loudly.
‘Empathy Concert For National Security’ to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Korea Veterans Association, was held at Seoul Plaza in Jung-gu’s Taepyeong-ro on the 8th at 8:00pm.
The concert was attended by celebrities such as Rain, Untouchable, KCM, etc. who are serving in the Defense Media Agency, and they gave an electrifying performance in front of more than 2,000 soldiers and citizens over 2 hours.
Rain made a grand finale of the concert. When he appeared on stage, people screamed and some of them edged their way through the crowd to get closer to their idol.
After coming to the salute, Rain sang his hit song ‘Love Song’ passionately without dancing. Some had raised the possibility of his being invalided out of the army when it was learned he was hospitalized with his back pain, but he displayed his fighting spirit by coming on the stage, and that’s why the rumours were quashed.
Rain said, “Thank you for your kind invitation.” “Winter is approaching. Please take care and don’t catch a cold.”
He added, “Thank you very much for coming. I think I should run off stage after carrying out all the obligations I’ve undertaken.”

I imagine that this show is only going to be on Armed Forces television, but it is exciting nonetheless!
As far as I can tell, PR celeb soldiers Yu Geon, Kim JaeWook, and Park HyoShin (who was just discharged from the military near the end of September), will be starring in a new military drama called “March” (행군 / haeng-gun), about the excitement of young soldiers finding themselves and becoming men. This Saturday, the 13th, is the first broadcast episode of Season 1. Air times will be Saturdays at 9 am, 3:30 pm, and 11:00 pm, and Sundays at 1:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
If there was any way for me to watch it, you bet I would. But honestly, it’s wonderful in itself just to see that Geon and JaeWook were able to use their acting chops even while enlisted. And that HyoShin’s troop mates will still get to enjoy his singing voice for a while yet. 🙂

Although it’s true that some U.S. Clouds were around when Rain made his debut in South Korea in 2002, most of us only became aware of him after he starred in a little Hollywood ninja flick called Ninja Assassin.
By now, all of you are well aware of the production details of Ninja Assassin: a project of the Wachowski brothers of The Matrix Trilogy fame; produced by Joel Silver and Grant Hill; directed by James McTeigue; filmed in Berlin, Germany; had budget of $40 million; grossed $61,601,280 worldwide. Yeah. That sort of thing.
You also likely know that most critics panned the film almost immediately upon leaving the theaters while most moviegoers actually praised it as paying good homage to the classic ninja flicks of the 80’s (with an anime-like CGI kick). That is why whenever we run across a review we think got it right, we can’t wait to share it—like this one by Carl Ingebretsen, an aspiring writer/screenwriter, who reviewed the film on Letterboxd yesterday.

[Rain] : Good. (laughs) I’ve felt pain in my back since {my dancing overtaxed} my strength in my childhood. From time to time as the need arose, I was able to be treated before and after my concerts during my activities as a singer. But I find it difficult to combine my military service with my hectic performance schedule while serving in the army. I think I had a relapse and was taken to the hospital due to my busy schedules. According to some articles I read, I was as good as dead. (laughs) Now I’m in a good condition, and there is nothing to worry about {with} this ailment. {Did you hear that, dear Clouds? [KCM] : Many fans worry about your health. What is the state of your health?
[Rain] : Good. (laughs) I’ve felt pain in my back since {my dancing overtaxed} my strength in my childhood. From time to time as the need arose, I was able to be treated before and after my concerts during my activities as a singer. But I find it difficult to combine my military service with my hectic performance schedule while serving in the army. I think I had a relapse and was taken to the hospital due to my busy schedules. According to some articles I read, I was as good as dead. (laughs) Now I’m in a good condition, and there is nothing to worry about {with} this ailment. I’ll carry out my duty.

An upsetting photo indeed, from Rain’s most recent Consolatory Train performance. But there is something we must all remember. We must.
Rain has been going through this for years after each of his many performances, we just haven’t seen pictures of that until now. His back pain is manageable, started a long time ago, and is sometimes helped by movement. His military training and duties aren’t easy, but he’s powering through it, so we have to keep him lifted up and help him. He’s really depending on us to do that. He has so much more to accomplish, and an even brighter future waiting for him around the corner. He’s just got to stay on his path and get there!
Please stay positive, keep him uplifted in your minds and in your hearts, keep your online Cloud letters and handwritten letters to Rain going strong, and know that NOTHING is going to keep him from his destiny. Baby Boy is okay.
