Wowzer. The fans were screaming bloody murder and having FITS. The footage is a bit jerky, but heck, how are you supposed to keep still while you’re watching Rain right in front of you live anyway? How does that work, pray tell? 🙂 We can barely keep still watching the man on video, donchaknow. — Stephe ^@@^

As we briefly mentioned for new fans in a previous post, and as you longtime Clouds all know, Rain’s birthday is coming up on June 25. He’s scheduled to be on stage that day, working the ZEPP Fukuoka show (which isn’t that surprising—it’s usually a global fanmeeting that is scheduled. Rain has worked on that day, and straight through the Christmas holidays, for years.) But this summer, the sad thing is that June 25 is also the day Michael Jackson died in 2009. That’s right… Rain’s idol, the matchless entertainer who inspired young Ji-Hoon to dance his way to mega-stardom, passed away on Rain’s birthday.
May MJ rest in peace, and Rain continue to thrill us show after show, in Micheal’s stead.

Allkpop 5/21/2010 — After SNSD, f(x), Lee Hyori, etc, you can now add another K-pop star to your iPhone or iTouch.
MBLAQ who recently returned with their new title song, Y have just released an application for the Apple Appstore on May 21st. Developed by Danal Co. in collaboration with J.Tunes, the application is FREE and yet is full of features like a paid application….
Rain about had a coronary. Jae-Seok and Myung-Su were traumatized. Lee Joonie kept his eyes on the prize—smart boy. Rain was still having a coronary two minutes later. Hats off to Goo Hara, who took full advantage of a golden opportunity.
Good heavens, Ji-Hoon—calm down! It’s okay! ROFL! — Stephe ^@@^

Well, we’ll tell you. Because of the sentence in new comeback release Y, “I’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Uh… seriously? (Please forgive our confused American brains.)
Allkpop 5/20/2010 — MBLAQ’s comeback seemed to be on a good start with their music video for Y released just a few days ago and the track slowly rising in various charts. However, MBLAQ already received warnings from MBC, KBS and SBS due to the shooting scene in the music video, which they had to ultimately remove.
Now MBLAQ is facing more problems, this time, because of the lyrics….
Broadcast May 21. If these captures aren’t the very definition of gorgeous… well, we don’t know what is. WOW. Have mercy! Can you spell saranghaeyo? — Stephe ^@@^
[ *ETA: Oh-em-gee. Cloud USA is putting it out there—this is Rain and Crew’s TV PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR. Hands down. So far. Great Caesar’s Ghost! We’ve fallen in love all over again. ^@@^ & :-} ]
It’s been a while since Rain was a guest on Sketchbook (I remember his appearance during the Rainism era, but not since…) Of course, he and the Crew look good enough to eat here, and I really mean that. Enjoy these performances from this May 21 broadcast, fans. — Stephe ^@@^
Hip Song. Woahhh! (all courtesy of ratoka @YT)
Michael Jackson tribute and It’s Raining. Very special! Extremely smexy! How does Ji-Hoon move like that?
Conversing. About the ice-bling making Mr. Yoo feel like an umpire, Rain’s MTV Movie Award nomination, and Tom Cruise, to name a few things. Was Rain’s handkerchief only supposed to be a decoration or something? LOL
Love Song. Without his usual background track. With live piano accompaniment and singers. And the sexiest dancers in South Korea. Oh-em-gee.
Our Rain on today’s Music Bank, fans, this week’s second Hip Song stage… and is it me, or were his energy levels really pumped up for this performance? Ah… a hand-held mic, and a TON of conditioner in that great hair (it was flying all over the place, dancing by itself). You know, we thought that being without Love Song stages would suddenly be unbearable… but while we do miss that, Hip Song is keeping us company just fine. 🙂 — Stephe ^@@^
We already enjoyed the visuals in the May 19th portion, did we not? So now, here is Rain’s OBS TV Unique Entertainment News spot in its entirety, with written English translation (thank you, rain bird!). And have a great Friday, Clouds. — Stephe ^@@^
May 19, Part 1. (video credit: DC / courtesy of ratoka @YT / brief translation by rain bird @rain-eu.)
May 19, Part 1
0:52~1:35
I think popular singers should push for changes in direction to their efforts.
Much had been said for and against whether ‘Love Song’ would be chosen as the title track of my special album, and the song is a ballad and shows an aesthetic of temperance [attractive balance using understatement]. When it came time to decide, no one hesitated, so it was chosen as the title track.
1:40~2:04
My association with actor ‘Jakie Chan’ has led it to produce an OST using my second single ‘Hip Song’ for movie ‘The Karate Kid’ starring him.
2:05~2:17
The animated otter’s reverse wave seems to be very funny and more technical than expected.
2:25~2:49
I plan to perform in Japan’s concert halls that have accommodations for 2,000~3,000, maybe 14~15 times in June [ZEPP]. On the last day of the concert, ‘I’ll perform in a large venue which can accommodate up to 25,000 audiences [Saitama].
2:57~3:19
Once, I fell down the stage during my concert in Hong Kong and got a slight concussion and suffered cracked arm [Rain’s Coming 2007 tour]. I’ve been fully recovered from my injuries. I’m still quite spry, because I’m still twenty something.
3:22~4:19
I’m not afraid to fail and I just do my best. So I never give up and keep trying my goal again and again under any harsh circumstances. That way will maintain my position in the showbiz.
4:20~5:09
Ninja Assassin climbed to No.3 at the box office, although it is a kind of movie for those who have a mania for action movies or genre movies or bloody moves. I’m satisfied with such a box-office record.
5:10~5:36
I plan to appear in a hollywood movie, but first, I try to appear in a domestic drama for my Asian fans.
5:50~6:02
I’ve chosen the honest way to live truly since my debut.
May 19, Part 2.
May 19, Part 2
0:17~0:56
There are two sides to the title ‘World Star’, so I try to work harder just for my earned nickname. However, one name Rain is much, if I am a real world star.
0:57~1:58
I try not to forget my original intention, so I want to play my cards much more in doing my work in Korea than in any other nations.
2:00~2:14
I think it’s only common courtesy to have a deferential attitude to seniors. I didn’t know that I was the talk of the town since I’d have a deferential attitude toward actor and my senior ‘Choi Bool-Ahm’ at an event.
2:30~2:51
Congratulations on the marriage of actor ‘Lee Bum-Soo’ and my existing English teacher ‘Lee Yun-Jin’.
2:51~3:08
I learned English from her for about 3 months, but I needed a teacher on call 24 hours a day, so there was no choice but to replace her into a male teacher because she is a woman.
3:09~3:44
I’ll continue to study English. Reading the newspaper every day seems to be one way to stay informed of all the events happening locally and internationally. Separately, I’d like to go to a law school in my late thirties.
3:56~4:25
Singer ‘Lee Hyo-Ri’ and I go back 8 years. She was just putting me on (She said Rain looked on as a man in a show program)
4:26~4:37
My nonsense scandals have been in the headlines every year, but they have been manufactured, and the internet has blown all sorts of silly rumors about.
4:47~5:01
Once, I was hounded by paparazzi overseas as they took away even my trash.
5:02
All my fortunes are to be conquered by bearing it, even if I’m treated unfairly. So I try to do a lot better. I think they have extremely done that because it’s really hard to make ends meet. And I do not respond to such scandals and I’m not embroiled in them. As truth always comes out, I just wait and see.
May 20.
May 20
1:04~1:18
It has been a difficult and lonely time, but I try to be much stronger, both emotionally and in practicality, than I was before.
1:20~1:35
I would not say about her even if I had a girl friend, but I have no girl friend right now.
1:37~1:59
My ideal type is a sexy and cool woman, or a pure and straightforward woman. I like such a woman who doesn’t pretend she is innocent.
2:08~2:30
I’ve heard that actress ‘Park So-Hyun’ and idol group ‘After School’s Uee’ named me as their Mr.Right. I like both of them. I think my attractiveness is partly due to my unaffected personality.
2:49~3:00
I want to be married and to have daughters. That way, they will be what gives me the strength to go on. [daughters are more likely to make sure parents are taken care of ^@@^]
3:14~3:35
When my ex-girl friend whom I hadn’t talked to for years stood before me all of a sudden, I felt as if she was just my friend. So, we remain close friends.
3:40
We monitor the programs each of us appear on.
3:40~4:10
I’m all [aglow] when I drink alcohol and usually sleep. Two bottles of Soju (one of Korean alcohols) are all that I can hold.
4:16~5:11
How can I get compared to MBLAQ’s GO? (only half in jest). But he has remarkable singing skills, and each of MBLAQ members has a good personality and a good sense of humor, too. And there is something attractive about each of them.
4:30~5:37
I usually call my girl friend ‘darling’ (Yeobo in Korean), because she is mine. (Korea’s married couples usually call each other by the title, Yeobo)
5:41~6:14
I’ve got along with male group GOD’s ex-members ‘Yun Kye-Sang’, ‘Kim Tae-Woo’ and so on, and 76 Family team which includes actor ‘Cha Tae-Hyun’, ‘Jang Hyuck’ and so on.
6:27~7~25
Identifying the talented kids between the ages of 6 and 7 seems to be the [best] method. Each of idol groups’ members needs to sharpen up because the life of any idol star will come to an end someday.
8:36
I plan to wrap my musical activities with my special album until the end of May. I’m scheduled to hold concerts in Japan in June, and I’ll start shooting a drama from September.
I hope you to be healthy, and thank you for supporting me.
It is true that, when it comes to tiny accents and nuances, Rain never does the same song the exact same way twice. However, when it comes to the overall picture, we have discovered (as you surely have) that, no matter how much time may pass, his timing on those songs never wavers (probably because he does them in his sleep). Remember » fan made Double Your Pleasure, and how it really illustrated that point? Well, this one goes even further and shows, from its beginning, how incredible Rain’s timing over the years truly is. And when the rap came in, we just stared. We are amazed by this man. — Stephe ^@@^

Enjoy this May 20th news clip about Psy’s show last week, fans. (My heavens—try not to stare too hard at Rain during the Hip Song footage, or you might go blind.) Allkpop 5/20/2010 — For the first time, singer Rain / Bi spoke up about the radio scandal between him and Lee Hyori on a TV broadcasting.
On an episode of KBS2 Happy Together 3 that was aired on the 20th, MC Yoo Jae Suk and Park Myung Soo had asked the King and Queen of K-pop, “Have any scandals surfaced because of you performed on stage together?”
To this, Hyori replied, “There was one because of a radio show.”
Rain added, “It’s an old story now, but at the time, I was at Hong Kong for my concert. I discovered later that the rumors spread because of an elementary kid who posted it on an online bulletin as a joke.”
Hyori jokingly said, “I wish there was something for a scandal to surface.” ….
But this had nothing to do with the outcome of a boxing match… and everything to do with Rain’s Golden Abs. Have a chuckle, Clouds, at this comedic clip from Rain’s recent appearance on variety/game show Happy Together. 🙂 — Stephe ^@@^
From back around the first week of the month, Rain in the studio with Eunhyuk and Leeteuk of Super Junior for a funny, ultra-casual interview. I about lost it when, instead of oppa (older brother to a female), they insisted on calling him ahdusshi (uncle, sir, pretty much the American equivalent of Pops or Old Man, but honorifically). ROFL! Oh, he was not having that at all.
The Boss and the Boys met on Mnet’s M!Countdown, the first major comeback show of this week. And of course, our Rain was livin’ like a Superman, yeah! His boxing mitts had been traded out for sport gloves and he danced his butt off. MBLAQ’s new look was awesome. Loved the “y” shape incorporated into the dance (you notice it a lot more without the glow-in-the-dark outfits). Nicely done! But my goodness, they are pushing that gun thing a bit, aren’t they (G.O and his “air” rifle)?
We enjoyed this, Clouds. Did you? — Stephe ^@@^

From Rain’s first album, n001. » The English translation is on our Lyrics page #1. This song may not have started out with his late mom in mind, but it sure ended up that way and it will always be hers now. Gosh, the utter heartache. He almost couldn’t stop singing to her. — Stephe ^@@^

In this game you can dress your character in fashionable clothing, collect fun accessories and level-up by playing mini games. Even the company you keep and boyfriends you have will help how strong your internet persona is. A press release from J.Tune stated that the music video, aimed at promoting Rain’s current single “Hip Song” and Chan’s upcoming action flick “The Karate Kid,” will be produced by famed actor Will Smith and feature the Korean singer’s song and scenes from the Hollywood-Chinese remake of the 1984 hit “The Karate Kid.”
“The project was planned based on the friendship between Jackie Chan and Rain,” a representative with J.Tune explained. The martial artist and singer had first met when Rain visited China to participate in the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. They had maintained a friendship ever since, the two visiting each other at events and concerts….

[Cloud USA] Asian news source Sports Seoul has released a brief stating that Rain may be directly involved in the making of the OST (original soundtrack) for his new upcoming drama 도망자 (Runaway, or Fugitive, tentative title). Very interesting, and not unexpected, if it is indeed true, what with his talent for multitasking and wearing many hats extremely well.
Seeing as Rain is starring in the project, he is already privy to the themes running through the plot and the plight of his own character, important factors that should also weigh heavily in the tone of Runaway‘s main and incidental music. Rain is a seasoned singer who knows what does and doesn’t work, and a producer who has quickly learned the ropes. Surely his participation in the OST would only garner success.
OMGKPOP! 5/18/2010 — Looks like MBLAQ’s new music video is too hot for Korea’s television networks– KBS, MBC and SBS– and is receiving no airtime.
The plot of the music video is Lee Joon, the main lead, taking revenge on his lover. This music video involves intimate scenes in the bed that includes kissing. In one of the ending scenes, Lee Joon is seen aiming a gun at his lover and the scene following features the lover apparently wounded from the gunshot.
A representative of J.Tune Entertainment said, “We will revise the music video and have a broadcast version where the scene with the gun is not included.” ….
Well, we can’t say we didn’t see this one coming. At least they’re not going to scrap the first version… we and the rest of the world can still have that one and the broadcasters can have the “clean” version. Whatever floats their boat. — Stephe ^@@^
And he’s always been this way. Our poor Rain, percussive dancer that he is, simply cannot stop moving when the spirit hits him. His pulse is physically connected to his music. The beat is in his bloodstream, and there it will always be. Fascinating. — Stephe ^@@^

Well, that depends on who you’re asking. And whether you’re talking Korean age, or International age.
Right now, internationally, Rain is 27 years and 11 months, and will turn 28 years old on his birthday, June 25. But in Korea, at this moment, he is considered to be 29 years old, and he will still be considered 29 on his birthday next month. He will be 30 years old when the New Year rings in for 2011.
Confused? So was I.
What turned the light bulb on for me when it comes to 만나이 (“man-nai”, in which “man” (만) means full or actual, and “nai” means age) was when I realized that, for Koreans, the date of one’s birth is a day to mark but NOT a day that you age up. Koreans age up with each new calendar year that they live to see, each new calendar year they are alive and that they experience.
Let’s say you were born today in the US, or in Japan, etc. You would be considered only hours old, right? Well in Korea, you would already be considered one year old because this was the first year you saw and experienced. You’re living in your “first year.”
Likewise, when the next New Year came, that would be the second year you lived to see, so you would be considered two years old, though depending on your birth date the rest of the world would consider you one year old or less.
The young man in this video, Hyunwoo Sun, is a perfect example of that. He was born December 29, 1980, so on January 1, 1981, internationally he was 3 days old, but Korea considered him 2 years old. He had seen 1980 (one year) and 1981 (two years). Just remember that it’s how many years you actually “see,” and you’ll be good. Korean women love this, I hear, because they automatically get one or two years younger whenever they leave their country. 🙂 ^@@^
And speaking of birthdays…
As we all know, Rain’s is the 25th of next month, so get your greeting cards, silver lining letters, or gifts in the mail to J.Tune. (There wasn’t enough time this year, but next year we plan on having a group project, so do stay tuned for that.)
Rain will be on tour that day, performing at Fukuoka ZEPP, so getting birthday wishes while working should make him smile.
The Lotte Homme Global Lifestyle Magazine is an online shopping guide for Japanese consumers. (Links at the top of the Homme home page will take you to Lotte Duty Free’s English, Korean, and Chinese websites.) Rain is gracing the outside and inside of the mag’s flashpaper pages for May 2010. How many covers does this make for our Ji-Hoon this year alone? We have lost count. — Stephe ^@@^
One of the criticisms of Rain’s performance in NINJA ASSASSIN is that his acting was too lukewarm. That “Raizo” was emotionless and unaffected, and somewhat dry, and needed to be more expressive. We are completely thrown by this because:
1. Raizo was stolen from his parents before the age of ten and was told that they had abandoned him
2. For years, he was punished for any mental or physical weakness
3. For years, he was taught to bear horrific pain with only his mind and his chi
4. For years, he had any display of emotions and any failures beaten out of him
5. He had to watch the only girl he ever loved executed, and not make a sound
6. For years, he was taught to blend in with any landscape or shadow and not stand out
7. For years, he was taught never to speak without permission
8. For years, he was molded and shaped into a killer from hell that was not a human being
So Rain, an eight-year veteran actor, reads the script, takes direction from McTeigue, and portrays “Raizo” as a calm, silent, lonely, emotionally-stunted assassin who only speaks in short clips if at all, and whose only professional flaw is his simmering anger for Ozunu-sama just under the surface. But critics are yammering away because “Raizo” wasn’t all dramatic and bursting with emotion. What? Seriously? What are you people thinking?
HanCinema 5/18/2010 — Asian superstar Rain will be holding encore concerts in Japan this summer at the request of his fans, according to his agency J. Tune Entertainment on Tuesday. J. Tune announced in a press release that the singer is set to perform at the Saitama Super Arena on July 17 and 18 as part of his tour titled “Rain, LOVE TOUR 2010″.
The concert, which will take place at a 30,000-seater venue, will feature the biggest -scale performance given yet by the singer. His recent Tokyo concert, held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium on April 17 and 18, was a smash hit that left the fans chanting for encores for half an hour.
Born Jung Ji-hoon, Rain has released six studio albums to date and performed at numerous concert tours throughout Asia and in the U.S. including a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden….
HanCinema 5/18/2010 — Korean pop stars Lee Hyo-lee and Rain are making news for saying that they were both attracted to each other at one point during their decade-long friendship. They made the remark while making a guest appearance on MBC variety talk show “Come On Over”, which aired Monday evening.
“Lee Hyo-lee is a person who has a lot of charms”, said Rain on the show. “She exudes an unbelievable aura on stage but she is like a vulnerable little girl in some ways.” He went on to say, “Hyo-lee doesn’t know this but I think she has a power that attracts men.” When Lee asked Rain if he ever thought about her in a romantic way, he answered, “There is no man who would not regard Lee Hyo-lee as a woman.”
Lee then admitted to once having felt romantic feelings for Rain….
Just say yes, Rain. “I’ve thought about Hyo-Ri in a romantic way, sure.” Just say it, dude. Everybody knows you’re not made of stone. Thank you, Hyo-Ri, for just admitting it, girl. Although if you think we believe it’s only happened to you one time… heh, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. 😉
