MBLAQ in talks to hold extra shows for first concert

Korean boy band MBLAQ is considering holding additional shows for their first concert in August.

J.Tune Camp announced in a press release on Wednesday that most of the tickets for MBLAQ’s concert titled “MEN IN MBLAQ,” to be held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul on August 20, have sold out in less than an hour of going on sale yesterday.

“We are currently looking into holding extra shows since we have received endless requests and inquiries to do so from local and international fans who were unable to purchase tickets to MBLAQ’s concert,” an official from J.Tune was quoted as saying.

This will the boys’ first concert since making their debut in 2009 with their single album “JUST BLAQ.” They followed it up with second single “Y” in May 2009 and have promoted their first full-length album and the repackaged version of “BLAQ Style” early this year.

The five-member boy band also expanded their career into Japan last month with their Japanese debut single “Your Luv” which will be used as the theme song to animation “Blade.”

MBLAQ’s single “Your Luv” to be featured in Japanese animation

Korean boy band MBLAQ’s debut single in Japan will be featured in a Japanese animation, according to their agency J.Tune Camp.

A PR official from J.Tune confirmed with 10Asia on Tuesday that MBLAQ’s song “Your Luv” will be used as the theme song for comic “Blade” which will premiere on Japan’s anime channel Animax starting July 1.

“Your Luv” had held onto the No. 1 spot on Oricon’s daily chart for three consecutive days as well as coming in second on its weekly chart upon its release in Japan on May 4.

It was also one of the most-downloaded ringtones on Japan’s RecoChoku mobile chart and placed within the top three slots of preorder album charts in mid-April.

The five-member boy band also held special events in Kawasaki, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Tokyo and Nagoya to celebrate the release of “Your Luv” last month.

Composed of members Seung-ho, G.O., Lee Joon, Chun-dung and Mir, MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality) made their debut in 2009 with their single album “JUST BLAQ” and followed it up with their second single “Y” in May 2009.

The boys recently released a teaser video of member Mir for their first-ever concert in the country to be held at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul on August 20.

Big thanks to Kongsao for telling us about her friend Ella Jane, a Chinese Rain fan currently living in London (yes, she met Rain at MCM London back in January, SO cool). Ella Jane speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, and translated Rain’s interview in Chinese Magazine 哈韓娛樂 (6月刊) [Kazakh Korea Entertainment, June] for her friends on Facebook recently.

Thank you, Ella Jane, for emailing us your translation so that we could share it on Cloud USA. What a kind gesture!

Apparently KKE’s information about JYP and SixToFive is outdated, but that’s not so bad a thing. This is a terrific article! Please enjoy the interview, everyone. I certainly did. 😀

Rain’s Legendary Road to Success, 17th June

2011 English translation by: Ella Jane

Source: 哈韓娛樂 (6月刊) [Kazakh Korea Entertainment Magazine, June]

Images: btm @raincloudHK

Rain is one of Korea’s most legendary artists, he is multi-talented and have successfully proven himself as a top singer, dancer, actor and now producer to boy group, MBLAQ. Although he’s not old, but he already has his own Kingdom! [I wager they’re talking about a “Pop” Kingdom here, folks. I’ve heard that term before in the popular music realm, so don’t let it daze and confuse you. Thanks. — Stephe ^@@^] He is a super human to most of us as he seems to be able to get by with only a few hours sleep any day. And no matter what challenges life throws at him, he always faces up to it courageously and gets through it with a smile.

No one can predict how high or far Rain will go in the future, but his status in Korea’s history is already ingrained firmly in people’s hearts. From his initial debut in Korea to him sweeping Asia by storm, all this is part of the Rain Legend. He debut at a time when KPop was at its high and gained his popularity at his prime. Even at a young age, he had already set his mind on the horizon afar in Asia and America.

We love Rain for his music, for his courage to go and do things no one else have ever dared. Haters have said that Rain is greedy and money hungry and they can’t wait to see him flop and fall flat on his face. But regardless of what people say about him, Rain kept his focus, kept to his plans and work hard towards his dream of being a great singer, actor and a businessman.

Rain has changed the way people appreciate ‘beauty’. Before Rain, only men with manly brows and big eyes were considered handsome. But Rain has opened up a path for men with small eyes and single eye-lids. He truly is the pioneer in this area, making a name for himself and allowing others with the same features to be considered beautiful men.

It was only recently that Rain revealed in an interview that he had visited the plastic surgeon with his manager early on in his career. Thankfully, he gave up on the idea of having plastic surgery in the end. This was because he felt that it was more important to keep the features that were given to him by his parents. He said: “At the end of the day, being an artist is still a job isn’t it, so it is still important to maintain some personal space. And I really wants to greet the world with my true face and identity!”

In early 2006, Rain was selected by the Time magazine as part of the Top 100 Most Influential people. And last year, he was included in the poll for again. Rain felt so proud and said “In the past, the world is dominated by Western culture, particularly American culture, but now Asian culture is also getting more popular so it’s great to see Asian artists making a name for themselves in the world”.

In the public eye, Rain is always very busy, a man who never stops and it’s hard to catch a glimpse of him. But when he does show himself to the public, it is usually when he has big achievements to share. Even though Rain’s work now crosses so many platforms, his main focus and passion still remains in music and in singing. “Back to the Basics” is an album that he created while in the middle of other busy work. His schedule was fully packed, but he still managed to clear a 2 month slot to learn about producing music and writing lyrics. It is also in this “Back to the Basics” that we saw the change in Rain’s style of music, it wasn’t just about hip hop music and dance moves that involved him ripping off his shirt. His music became more deep and even more meaningful as he started to sing more ballets and soulful songs.

Rain wanted to create a world of his own through his music and he was successful in doing this. Starting with his 3rd album “It’s Raining”, he created “Rain’s World” and following that “Rainism”. Even though he’s no longer under the JYP label, he’s never forgotten how JYP brought him in under his wings when he felt the world had turned on him. Rain works hard and always think of ways to improve his music and improve himself. He will never let his guard down and it’s with this attitude that’s how he went from a no-body to the legendary Rain.

As an actor, Rain really admires Al Pacino’s work and his biggest dream to be able to collaborate with him in a movie one day. Rain has participated in two Hollywood films to-date, namely “Speed Racer” and “Ninja Assassin”. Even though it’s only two films but it is a good start for him to play a small role in “Speed Racer” then moving to be the male lead in “Ninja Assassin”. During the filming of “Ninja Assassin”, Rain had to keep his body super fit for the role, he was training day and night and suffered many injuries and in the grilling 8 months, he was only allowed a bland diet of chicken and vegetables. He recently received a lot of invitations to participate in Hollywood films but he’s had to turn them down because of his military obligations. He said that he must follow the law in his country and complete his enlistment.

Aside from the working as an artist, he is now producing and working closely with boy group, MBLAQ and working on his clothing line “SixtoFive. We can’t claim that he’s successful in his business ventures yet but it sure proves that Rain works hard and pushes himself to the face new challenges.

With success, comes envy, Rain has been involved in some court cases in regards to his business and it made him feel hurt and wronged. He said that money is not the drive behind his hard work. He works hard because he is passionate about the work he does and he loves the feeling of achievement and success when he overcomes a challenge.

From the start, it is almost as if Rain is fighting the battle on his own but he remained focus and had to be emotionless at times. In fighting for his dream, he felt he has become Raizo (his character in Ninja Assassin) crushing and slashing obstacles that are in his way. And it may be this strive for success that has made other envious of him and creating unnecessary criticism.

Rain has said that there are 3 drivers behind his motivation:

1. To work hard to provide the best for his family

2. To ensure that he can eat his favorite food and never have to experience starvation again

And the 3rd driver is the most interesting one, he strives to work hard for his haters. This is because in the world, there are those that love him unconditionally, those that don’t care about him and those that find him annoying. Every time he hears bad comments, it just makes him stronger and he works even harder, to show them what he is capable of.

And on that note… Mir’s concert teaser, the first of the five, was released by J.Tune Camp today. Poor, poor Mir. Though he is the “brains” and agent genius of the bunch, he forgets his online password and can’t buy tickets to his own concert. And when he finally does come up with it, the tickets are SOLD OUT. ROFLMAO! So cute. (Heavens, did you see him hunting and pecking at that keyboard? LOL)

As far as I can tell, the “2010” repetition by Rain is from the beginning of MBLAQ’s 2010 song “Y”. I love this teaser (and I don’t mind the typos at all, big deal). Can’t wait to see the other four.

By rain bird @Rain Europe:

All the coverage of KBS, MBC, SBS, and YTN are just about the same.

Brief summary:

‘Flight : Close to the Sun’, a fighter pilot-featured movie, is currently being filmed, and is scheduled to be released early next year. Rain has been cast as the main character as the top gun in this film. Our air force is also taking an active part in helping to film the movie.

(Fantastic formation flying…)

(The F-15K valued at about 100 billion won a unit.)

This is not a computer graphic—it’s for real and has closely been filmed by a specially equipped plane for the movie. Following USA and France throughout the world, South Korea has become the third nation to actually film aerial scenes. To put perfection in the work, hollywood film crew specializing in making aerial scenes joins the movie shooting.

This movie tracing the human touch of Air Force pilots will pave the way for our air force’s work in hitting close to home for moviegoers.

[article][learning Korean] MBLAQ check: Joonie gives big brother Rain top physique title.

•June 20, 2011 • 12 Comments

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

Cute article! And of course, you all know that I had to delve into the momzzang (a man with an attractive physique) thing and try to go from Romanization to Hangul text, because you can never practice Hangul/Korean enough if you’re serious about learning it. So… The first syllable was a cinch. 몸 (mom, a noun which means body, or health). Bingo! But then I got stumped because, to my knowledge, there is no double-z. So I tried a double-s sound instead to begin the last syllable (쌍, ssang) and threw the whole word into a translator to see what came out.

Pair, or twin. Body pair, or body twin. Mm. Heh… didn’t seem right. Next try, the double-j sound (ㅉ), which can easily sound like a shzzzzz combination. Bingo! 몸짱 (the entire word, both syllables together, means “muscular”). And here’s the final proof I needed:

After my Hangul tinkering, I found the word in KBS’s own article screen cap. 몸짱. Spelled momjjang.  Pronounced momzzang, according to KBS. And Rain is that, isn’t he? The top man when it comes to the male physique. And dear, dear Joonie is right behind him. Have mercy!

KBS Global Radio Hot Topic 6/20/11 — Writer: Honorary reporter Son Ji-yeon

Lee Joon regards Rain Top Momzzang

In the “Entertainment Era” corner on the episode of “Live Info Show” that aired on June 15, the cameramen paid a visit to the place where singer Lee Joon’s commercial for underwear was being filmed. Asked about the reason he was chosen to be an underwear commercial model, Lee Joon, a member of five-member dance group MBLAQ with the nickname of “an all-round idol,” joked, saying, “I was known for my good physique. But I think I was really chosen for my handsome face.”

Lee Joon is an idol known for his attractive physique. Who then did he think is the star “momzzang” (a man with an attractive physique) in the entertainment world? Lee admitted singer and actor Rain is the top “momzzang,” saying, “My older friend Rain is absolutely the best.” He revealed that his special method for keeping his body in shape is to not eat spicy, salty and fried foods and to exercise every day for at least ten minutes.

Lee Joon has shown off his firm abs on many programs and has been adored by female celebrities including Kim Jun Hee and Je A. One of the reasons for his popularity — aside from the abs — is his wackiness. Regarding his unique personality, he said, “I saw an article recently that says my IQ is under 100. However, my foolish image was created intentionally.” He added, “All my lines are deliberately thought out.” Viewers expressed great expectations for his future endeavors.

[ETA ANOTHER FedEx Tracking Update on 6/27] The Cloud USA: From Our Heart to Yours Birthday Scrapbook for Rain is a wrap.

•June 19, 2011 • 73 Comments

[ETA 6/27: Stephe here.

Status is now “delivered”, dear peeps. Our recipient has taken possession of Rain’s birthday scrapbook, and we will be forever grateful. It is a pretty safe bet that Rain has your precious work on his behalf by now, so please rest easy.

Thanks so much to all of you for helping make this project of love happen! I tell you, it does a heart good. Stay tuned for more Cloud USA projects for Rain in the near future. For now, cheers! ^@@^]

°

[ETA ANOTHER 6/25 Update:  How about that Twitter trending event, eh?  Did everyone participate?  It was a lot of fun. :-}  So.  Rain’s birthday scrapbook package is on the move AGAIN.   According to the FedEx International Services rep I just spoke to on the phone, the package has cleared customs and is on a truck and on its way to Seoul and its recipient.  The only status left is the one that says “delivered.”  Yippee!

And for those of you who are wondering if I even have a life outside of Cloud USA, let me say that I just spent some time with my oldest DS (dear son), listening to his latest song.  All I can say is it’s REALLY good.  His EP is supposed to be finished by the end of August (barring any delays). I will share it with you when it is finally released.  And for those of you who are new and are wondering why I’m mentioning my son and his music here on Cloud USA, you should read my Standing in the Rain story.  Later, peeps.  :-}]

[ETA 6/25:  Clouds, I was about to call it a night and something made me go check the FedEx tracking page again and—guess what?  The scrapbook has made it to South Korea—and on Rain’s birthday, even.  Wow.  Okay, he doesn’t have it yet, but still.  He and his scrapbook are on the same soil and on his birthday.  So, it’s ALL GOOD.  The scrapbook is working its way through the FedEx sorting facility in Incheon, South Korea.  Now let’s all just pray real hard that it will breeze through customs without a hitch.  As Rain would say:  “We’re so excited!”  LOL.  You know?  He’s really gotta come up with another catch phrase.  :-}]

°

ETA 6/24: Okay, Clouds…according to FedEx, the package has left Anchorage, Alaska now, and is in the air and headed to South Korea.  Yay!  (Oh, by the way…Happy birthday, Ji-Hoon.)  :-}]

°

[The scrapbook has left the building, folks!  Yes, the scrapbook has left the building!  And for those of you who just aren’t getting it, that means that Rain’s scrapbook is now on its way to South Korea!  Yes, Stephe joined me for lunch this afternoon and we ran over to FedEx’s World Center (FedEx World Center…don’t you just love how that sounds???) and said bon voyage to our favorite star’s precious birthday scrapbook.

Actually, I think we freaked the counter clerk a little, because even after we finished our transaction, we refused to leave until she had actually put the airbill on the box and put it with the other packages headed for the plane.   The problem was after she had waited on us, she laid the airbill and invoice on the box and turned to help somebody else.  All I could think was, you are not DONE until the identifiers for that box are cemented onto that cardboard, my friend.  By the time she had helped two more people and the label STILL wasn’t adhered to our box, both Stephe and I were trying very hard not to glare at her.

Finally, after she had cleared out the entire lobby of customers, she turned and saw us and was like, “Um…do you ladies need something else?”  And I was like, “Um, yeah.  I wanna see you put that airbill on that box and then put it over there with the other packages.  So, we’ll know it’s really on its way to our recipient.”  I then proceeded to tell her how special that book was, how people from all over the world had contributed to it and how I wanted to make damned sure that it got to where it was going.

{*Stephe here. The whole time I was either throwing out thug looks OR pacing and growling at the woman like a caged lion. I mean my gawd. Put the labels on the package before they get separated or lost and I have to THROW DOWN UP IN THIS MUG. This is for RAIN. Do you mind. ^@@^ Poor thing, she was a really nice lady and she just didn’t realize who she was dealing with, that’s all. And she was like, “Rain?” *brain turns over* “Ah.” 😀 }

LOL.  Of course, she thought we were a little whacko.  Still, she let us watch her slap that airbill onto that box and put it on the pile anyway.  That’s all that matters.  :-}

FedEx’s tracking is now showing the package as “in transit.”  We will keep you posted here on its progress.  Terri :-}]

RAINY DAY Season 3, episode 12. Reach out and touch someone.

Asia broadcast 6/18.

Well, check it out, fans. We have our same favorite Dread Pirate/Majestic/Asiad theme, but new sub-theme footage accompanied by “Touch Ya.” Very cool.  Last week, when the episode ended, we had just gotten into one of the two ADIEU! 2010 with Rain New Year’s Eve concerts… and so let’s return there now.

“You (make me crazy)”, where the King sits on his throne and reigns over all that he surveys, has always had the makings of a saucy little number, what with those lyrics (the song was released on the Vol. 5 Rainism album in October 2008). I remember being so surprised when I saw the “You” choreography for the first time, during last summer’s ZEPP Japan tour, because I never expected it to be one of the songs in the show (I mean, good gosh, he has so many)… and I was really pleased because that choreography was every bit as spicy and sexy as it should have been. It did—and still does—the song justice, no matter how many times I see it. Yowzah.

(Haha. I suspect our PoodleHead likes “You” every bit as much as I do, from the way he throws down through the whole thing here. He even cuts loose with a few hard Round The World butt swings, which I distinctly remember doing down the Soul Train Line a time or two myself back in the day.)

When he takes a few moments to cool down and talk to the fans, he looks as happy as they sound. Aww. 🙂 And when he launches into “Not A Single Day/Harudo“, his voice is as rich and smooth on those lyrics as always. Makes you want to simply listen without moving. Without breathing. Because either one might spoil the exquisite sound coming out of his pipes. Know what I mean?

Ahh… let me take my long-sleeved shirt off right here, only because it’s hot under these stage lights, of course. And let me pull my black tank shirt not just out of my camos, but way up past my abs for a sec. Only because it’s hot up here. Of course. Yeah. Uh-huh, Rain. 😀 *trying to concentrate on Harudo despite JiHoon’s deliberate sabotage*

Any worry that Rain might have had during the ADIEU rehearsals about the concert certainly dissipated with the fans’ enthusiastic and warm response to his performances. And it seemed that he wanted to be close to them, to connect with them, eye to eye (quite appropriate, with eyes being the window to the soul). There was something in the way he reached out and touched people that made me feel a weight had slid off of his shoulders. Let me commend the fans he shook hands with along the side of the stage! As excited as they were, they still seemed to hold themselves together. And bless Rain’s heart for pausing in his singing for a moment to simply concentrate on graciously greeting them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… what a guy. ♥

And just like that, we’re into “One.” Everybody scream, because you know what’s coming!

Heavens. Moving on.

Now that was COOL at minute marker 10:04, when he tried to grab the One up in his arms as the spring-loaded elevator door in the stage lowered her down. Big points for that move, JiHoon! I noticed it before, but from this angle, the movement looks terrific.

So… as the Man cutely and expertly plays the audience like a fiddle (Louder… louder… Have some armpit sweat? No? You sure? ROFL) and gets ready to slide into “Escaping The Sun”, we are out of there until next week.

Loved the episode, Rain. Please keep ’em coming our way!

[article] Ninja Assassin on 20th Century’s top ten ninja movies list.

•June 18, 2011 • 15 Comments

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

I ran into this article on ComicMix this afternoon, and I have to say 20th Century Home Entertainment hit it right on the head with their Top 10 Ninja Movies list—at least for me, they did.

As an aficionado of the old “Black Belt Theater” and ninja movies of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I understood what McTeigue was doing with Ninja Assassin (starring Rain and Master Shô Kosugi) and I appreciated the heck out of the homage. Not to mention, Rain committed some unforgettable Badassery with “Raizo”. (Who wouldn’t want “Raizo” in their corner, or to rescue/be rescued by him? Don’t lie. That character was a beast and Rain was hella-fine in his skin. He didn’t just play the part, he all but transformed himself into that tragic, brooding killing machine. Wow.)

But it wasn’t only Rain’s movie that grabbed me in Robert Greenberger’s article.

Seven Samurai (with Toshirô Mifune), Ninja Scroll, Revenge of the Ninja (starring Master Shô), Kill Bill, and Enter the Ninja (starring Master Shô and Franco Nero) are all old favorites of mine that I will continue to watch until time immemorial. My son grew up on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—that is something we will always share and revisit, because a kid with a good hero (in a single parent household, especially) is a win-win. While American Ninja isn’t necessarily a favorite, it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. That’s eight of the ten. Which means I should probably check out the other two.

An additional contribution to the list that I would make is anything from the Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman movie series—just take your pick.

A very nice write-up, Greenberger.

Are These the Top 10 Ninja Movies? [excerpt]

Coming this week is the home video release of The Warrior’s Way and 20th Century Home Entertainment thought it might be a good time to examine the ninja film genre and determine which are the ten best. Their hope is that audiences will want to add the film starring Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans) and introducing to American fans international sensation Jang Dong Gun. Our review will appear soon and you can always judge for yourself.

Meantime, here are 20th’s Top 10. Did they get it right or miss one?

….

NINJA ASSASSIN

With its release in 2009, this ninja tale about a trained assassin has recently won its spot in top ninja movies. Raizo waits the day he can get his revenge on a secret society for killing his child-hood best friend. Raizo ends up being hunted down through the streets of Europe in what is one of the most action and bloody-packed ninja movies around.

[article] Blind to the fact: Recent criticism of KPop.

Blind To The Fact: Recent Criticism of Kpop

I would love nothing more than for all of us to hold hands and sing songs around the campfire. But that’s hard to do when some of us don’t tell the whole story. About three weeks ago, Esther Oh threw down the gauntlet, declaring Kpop’s “global domination” to be a myth in her online article, K-pop Taking Over the World? Don’t Make Me Laugh. In its wake, other writers have weighed in on the state of Kpop. Some know what they are talking about, and others, well, not so much. What bothers me about those who don’t is that they dismiss the heart of Kpop: the fans. I just think if you are going to talk about Kpop and its global reach, you have to talk about the fans.

This does not apply to everyone. There are a lot of people who know about the Kpop scene. Writing for soompi.com, melkimx calls out Oh for choosing only Kpop artists who “failed” to make it in the United States, and takes her to task for ignoring the success of BoA and other Kpop groups in international locations other than the United States. Also writing for soompi.com, TheNextHokage does not directly take Oh on, but acknowledges that Hallyu is real, has a following outside of Asia, and cites examples beyond BoA, such as artists from SM Entertainment.

While the posts by melkimx and TheNextHokage reflect basic knowledge, Oh’s article is fairly superficial in its treatment of Kpop. It drips with condescension as it does a drive-by on a small sliver of Kpop. The article questions all the positive press Hallyu has received, calling the Korean press coverage of Kpop “feel-gooderies” (is that even a word?) and “ridiculous and one-sided.” Now, my only contact with Korean media is through the translations of diligent fans and newssites like hellokpop.com, but I wonder: Is the coverage of Hallyu really any more cheerleader-like that coverage of any other country’s music scene? The article proceeds to tell the reader how BoA and Se7en produced “disastrous results” in the U.S. market….

[Translation] Lotte Duty Free Style Magazine June 2011 Interview

By: huhuhuhu @The Cloud English Talk Board, 6/17/2011

Images: Scorpiola @The Cloud Photo Board / Source: Lotte Duty Free

Text→Image match: Stephe @CloudUSA

(Please credit accordingly. Thanks!)

My first attempt to translate directly from Korean. Hope it makes sense. To our prince—proud of you, proud of being your Cloud!

I’M RAIN

“The name Rain seemed to have dedicated completely to his 20s. 2011 is a year filled with excitement as he looks forward rightly to a different world in his 30s.” Rain is shooting a movie “Fly Up, Close to the Sun” and a still picture of the movie was revealed a few days ago. Rain stood beside a fighter airplane against the background of a red, sunset sky. He gave a strong charisma of a fighter pilot who had the highest dream in the world. A dream to fly high is not just a dream in the movie. Jung Jihoon and Rain lived his 10s and 20s more intensely than anyone else. Indeed everyday his times were spent with the aim to fly high beautifully. If life goals are divided into units of 10 years, Rain now wants to shake off all the burdensome decorative words. In order to let others see him 100% as “Rain”, he is doing his best today for this goal. To his ‘Clouds’, he wants “to be their Rain they are always proud of.”

Rain always lives for “Spring”

People in the world all have their own seasons. Regardless of others, each has his own existence and his own life’s solar terms. Rain likes spring the most. As if the world knows everything, he spent a harsher and longer winter more than anyone else. Not sure if people have taken the fact that Rain likes spring the most for granted. However, spring is not about “lasting” the winter. It is also not about oneself safely passing through the time. On the contrary, spring is the time when one has to fight even more fervently than winter, in order for the trees to bud and the flowers to blossom. It is the season that promises a robust life in future. Therefore compared to any other time, spring is the time that confirms in a beautiful way about one’s “current” state of being. Spring promises people the peak of their time. Rain said once “The thing I fear most is myself”. For the first time we understand the important reason why Rain, who always warns and guards himself against laziness, likes the season spring the most. He has said that a life without challenge has no meaning and is completely non enjoyable. One who thinks that a satisfying peak still has not yet arrived, one who believes in the process of moving upwards by building a new target only to be followed by an even bigger target, this person is ‘Rain’.

Only ‘Rain’ is able to surpass ‘Rain’

After the decorative phrase ‘World Star’ was put before his name, “although there are many people who don’t really like Rain and people who decide to slander him, the absolutely undeniable point is that Rain is an awfully hard working person”. This fact has once again become a topic when Rain showed people that he is no different from his “yesterday”. At the time when he was shooting the movie “Ninja Assassin”, Rain’s such hard working shocked the Wachowsky brothers. Working together with Hollywood trainers who helped the actors of the movie <300>, Rain went through harsh training to achieve a body with almost 0% fat for the movie. At an interview then, ‘Rain’ is more than a leading individual singer, or actor. He is also Asia’s leading cultural icon. He took such role and responsibility on his shoulder and has been doing his best. The important thing is not about asking the result of “success or failure”. The important thing is asking if he is satisfied that he has done his best and has no regret. He is not the passive ‘star’ moving according to others’ wish. He intends to be ‘a person’ who is ‘really’ actively living his life. Rain considers the most important thing is being able to walk one’s happy road.

The future of the name ‘Rain’

Not long ago Rain posted a photo in his Twitter and said “This person knows me! We even had dinner sitting next to each other. I’ve admired him since I was a child. I’m speechless. Everybody, this is Sting, OMG”. He had a picture together with world class singer Sting. 5 years after 2006 Rain stepped on the red carpet once more after he was named again by U.S. magazine as one of the “100 most influential people in the world”. Rain could not hide his happiness when he said “When I was first there, I thought it was my first and also my last time. Now I stood there a second time”. Debuted as a solo singer with “Bad Guy” in 2002, and chosen as a CF model for a clothing brand, this is what Rain said about himself: as well as being a singer and an actor, ‘Rain’ has also become a brand. It’s a very grateful thing as a model when one sustains well and if the value of the product can increase. As someone with intelligence, who knows how to add “value” beyond the role of simply promoting a product, Rain once confessed at an interview “I started as an idol singer and then also became an actor. I will be going in and out overseas again as a singer and an actor. If I stay brilliantly as an idol, over time I will be replaced and disappear. I hate that.” Rain is always committed to “become a person who is irreplaceable”. Rather than the decorative phrase “world star”, people will meet Rain again as he stood on the red carpet once more as an endless growing, evolving cultural content and an influential brand Rain.
