Rain got plenty of giggles out of me during this one. What a personality.  Got to love it. All you ladies grab a skirt, put it on, and RUN like hell to wherever he’s stationed when he gets out of basic training! He’ll welcome you with open arms! Sorry, guys. LOL! 😀

If you’d like some really nice screen caps of this interview, » please revisit our previous post. Huge thanks to Jung Bae for taking time out of his schedule to give us a hand. Thumbs up.

Q [read from iPad screen]: You drew attention when you made two appearances on the TIME 100. I saw that you attended the celebratory reception, and I’m curious what kind of atmosphere that is. It must be quite grand, with the world’s 100 most influential people in the same place. What were the topics of discussion? Were you nervous?

Rain: I think making the TIME 100 is definitely something that I can’t leave out. [Note: It sounds like Rain was answering a direct question along the lines of “What was your most memorable moment” or something of that nature. Unsure what was going on with the editing here] When I first attended their party in 2005, that’s where I saw the likes of Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Puff Daddy, Jay-Z… I met them all there. Will Smith, in particular, recognized me first. It was like seeing a new world. I actually have a bunch of pictures lined up at home – who all was there, what year it was. You could say they’re my peers. On the same level as me. I’m just joking.

Q: [When was] your heyday? [Note: mostly one-word “questions” listed from this point on]

Rain: In some ways, when I did Ninja Assassin and received the MTV Movie Awards’ action star award [“Biggest Badass Star”], that was when things really blossomed for me. Think about it – I grew up watching Police Story and those Jackie Chan films, and there I was receiving an award from Jackie Chan. I had Snoop Dogg sitting next to me, all these American actresses, and Scarlett Johansson – I really like her – she was in my row. I could see her. It just felt so strange to me.

Q: Your acceptance speech?

Rain: That was really embarrassing. I couldn’t remember what to say. I wanted to speak, but I was like “What do I say?” And I couldn’t cry, either – everyone was dancing around, so that would have been weird. So I just had this really odd acceptance speech.

[Clip of acceptance speech]

Q: [Over Facebook]: Jang Geun-seuk appeared on The Knee-Drop Guru and said you guys drink together. I’m curious what your tolerance is, and who your drinking buddies are!

Rain: Geun-seuk… Yeah, he said that. He’s a really unique guy. Really talented. And I think that’s why he gets so much love from fans both in Korea and abroad, because of that freshness. He knows how to work and improve himself. I’ve had drinks with him, but he’s really not someone you should drink with. There will be big trouble. So I want to tell my sunbaes [elders] to be prepared before they drink with him.

Q: Your body age came out as 40 years old?

Rain: Yeah. That’s correct. A week ago I went in for my regular health exam. Everything’s normal. The liver function test came out as that of someone 22-24 years old; they also tested my stomach, did an endoscopy, everything. I’m apparently very healthy, but I did get that 40-year-old body age. It’s the joints – they’ve rusted, so to say. They said it’s like a robot with no oil. That sounds right, because when I wake up in the morning my joints do hurt…

Q: The end of your twenties?

Rain: My twenties are over… I want to return to that age. If only everything was like it is now, but I went back to being 25 years old. I could make friends with girl groups. I don’t need anything else – just that. Get acquainted with some girl groups, make friends. I don’t know why I was so preoccupied with work all the time back then. Back when I was on the scene, all we had was Lee Hyori. I wonder why that was?

Q: [Unable to read, due to low video resolution. However, from context it appears to be along the lines of “Who do you want to visit you while you’re serving in the military?]

Rain: Well, first of all, I don’t want male singers. Nor male actors. Nor my managers. A woman – just whoever, I’d like someone to come in a skirt. That’s it.

Q: About Boom, who recently finished his military service:

Rain: Right, Boom did get his discharge recently. It’s great, of course. He’s completed his duties well, and he’s really great for that. At any rate, I’m really jealous since he’s done now. Just being done already. I think timing is the most important thing in life. And this is the time for me to go serve. I’ll do it right.

[articles] Rain’s enlistment is everywhere. And BTW, age ain’t nothin’ but a number.

Written by Stephe Thornton, Managing Editor ^@@^

As you can all see—and have seen, throughout the day—Rain’s enlistment is everywhere, from sea to shining sea and far, far beyond. This is a mere taste of the coverage, and I say that in all seriousness. When the World Media really wants to write about someone, they get down to it.

And when they don’t, well… *shrug*

I do want to address this “such an old age” business.

Twenty-nine is indeed “late” to be going in, but it’s hardly “old.” (If it is, I would’ve been put out to pasture long ago. Not even close to that happening, folks.) And pardon me, but have you seen the shape this man is in? He can do two- and three-hour concerts one right after the other, full out dancing and without lip-syncing for a year and a half straight, do hundreds of running and fighting scenes, back to back, take after take, all across Asia for an entire summer while doing a concert tour at the same time, spend months training like a real soldier with the military and spend HOURS on a movie set filming without breaks (even 20 hours in a cockpit!)… but oh my god, how’s he going to make it going into basic training so old… Are you serious?

Rain is a bona fide beast, physically and mentally.

Just standing next to him makes younger men quake in their boots and feel like puppy dogs at the pound.  His body is a scientific specimen, even with his joints older from so much dancing. His last checkup shows he has the innards of a 24 year old. Yes, basic training is going to be harder for him than it would be if he were twenty, that’s a given. But he’s been through hard training for months on end and food deprivation before—think early JYPE, think Ninja Assassin, think MENtholatum China ad preparation this year, think parts of his childhood—so he will make it through this as if he is younger.

Just wait until you see that body and mental attitude when he finishes up in July 2013 and comes back to us. Have mercy. As the old saying goes, “Age ain’t nothin’ but a number, honey.” Pshaw.

If you haven’t already, please join the Yellow Ribbon for Rain Brigade on your Facebook or Twitter, and help us support Rain during his mandatory military service! He needs to know how much his entire fan base throughout the world is backing him even when he isn’t tirelessly performing for us. He needs to know that we aren’t going anywhere. That kind of thing does not need to be on his mind while he’s dealing with military equipment and maneuvering through the life of a soldier.

He has given to us for ten years, listened to our requests and complaints, and always done his best to make us happy. Now it’s OUR turn to make HIM happy. Keep spreading the word!

Eight weeks of basic training should have JiHoon finishing up with that in mid-December, a few weeks after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday… Well, my friends, seeing as we’re all still rubbed rather raw from watching him enlist only a few hours ago, I will simply leave you with this thought while we recover together:

Rain is Eternal. Where clouds STAY gathered, rain will always come. It is inevitable. 🙂

Well, our BANNER did, that is. Because thanks to our wonderful overseas friends, it was there on the scene! (Katie, we did it!) 😀 There were many fan banners in the area of the 306 Station gate saluting the ROK’s newest soldier. These are just a few.  There might be more pictures coming, including the banner by our Hawai’ian Cloud sisters—we’ll see.

We hope they brought JiHoon a little bit of cheer.

I swear to you, Jung JiHoon is ageless. Just look at him. Eternal youth is his!

I have to say, after watching the live coverage on the eNews/YTN feed with tweeting Cloud USA peeps, that he did a marvelous job keeping his composure with all he was going through. Can you imagine having such an emotional morning with your family, your friends, your big brothers and little brothers all supporting you but they’re so upset, and then coming to the 306 and well over a thousand fans are there to support you but they’re so upset, and the whole place is bawling, and you, with your tender heart, have to somehow manage NOT to cry in front of the soldiers you’re about to serve with?

The pressure had to have been off the scale. Yet he still managed to not have a break down.

Get ready, ROK military. One of your strongest soldiers ever has just walked in the door.

Dearest JiHoon,

We’re not going to say goodbye, because this isn’t goodbye, is it?

No, of course it’s not.

We still feel your presence, we still see and feel your light, and we hope you can feel ours too because, honestly, this so-called separation is only an illusion. You haven’t gone anywhere—you’re just in another room for a little while.

We see you.

Top Three for October 10th, 2011

Hey everyone, hope you had a great weekend! Without further ado, here are the Top Three kdrama and kpop stories of the day that you positively, indisputably gotta know about!

1. The biggest story in kpop is that Rain has entered mandatory military service, and he said “goodbye for now” in style, with a casual (but star-studded) party, a huge free concert, and one last message to his fans.

2. SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong takes a hot lady to a casino in the stylish new preview of his upcoming mini-album Lucky.

3. And how do you like the very flirty (dare I say kinky?) new poster for You’re My Pet, with Kim Haneul and Jang Geun Seok?

RAINY DAY Season 3, episode 28. He puts his sunglasses on and the fans go wild.

•October 10, 2011 • 1 Comment

Written by: Stephe Thornton, Managing Editor ^@@^

Asia broadcast 10/8. Screen caps by  姫 (Hime).

Last week, as you recall, we finished up with a very cool run-through for a RAIN The Best Show concert, and my oh my… this week we start off backstage with our Superhero and his SuperCrew all dolled up and in costume. But is this a dress rehearsal, or is it the actual first Korea tour concert stop in Busan? By all the fans screaming from a short distance away, more than likely it’s the show itself. Let’s find out!

OMG. We are practically under the stage and the audience is THISCLOSE. This is Best Busan, folks! After a quick but serious rally cry, Rain gets a few last-second good luck wishes, including a hug from his dad at minute marker 1:25.  “아버지 …”  (abeoji) “Father…” ♥ ♥

A little more warming up, and it’s GO Time.

What can it possibly be like to have an entire arena of fans scream like mad while they’re watching your virtual superhero video on the JumboTron and you’re not even out there yet? Or when you simply put on your sunglasses? One of these days, I’m going to ask him that. 🙂

The harder, rock-and-rolla gritty “Hip Song” that we so love the sound of leads us into favorite “Touch Ya”, which catapults us on into the meat of the show. Of course, Rain didn’t let the Busan audience off easy—he made them scream for him until the sound was loud enough to satisfy him, haha. (They should have known that was coming.) After a Q & A session that included finding out where fans were from, we are treated to a partial compilation of four of the songs Rain performed that night…

The smoldering hot “In My Bed.”

“Escaping The Sun” done Golden Boy style.

A particularly soulful “Only You.”

The hauntingly beautiful “You Know,” that never fails to make us think of drama SangDoo.

Next weekend’s episode will more than likely pick up where this one left off. At least I hope so. RAINY DAY usually includes little insights and surprises that a fan cam can’t, and when it comes to RAIN The Best Show, that could mean just about anything. See you then, Rain fans! 🙂

[article] A casual farewell party for Rain in Busan, and a “Last of The Best” free concert in Gangnam-gu.

•October 9, 2011 • 6 Comments

Cloud USA 10/9/2011 — by Stephe Thornton, Managing Editor ^@@^

As we understand it, Rain’s friends, colleagues, and other movie professionals who were attending the 16th Busan International Film Festival on the 7th gathered for a farewell party for Rain (real name: Jung JiHoon, South Korean singer, actor, and entertainer) at Haeundae’s snack stall there, in Busan.

Hallyu star Jang GeunSeok, actor Goh Soo, actor Jung SeokWon, actress Kim SunAh, and Rain’s castmates from the movie Flight: Close To The Sun were some of the party-goers who enjoyed a good drink and raised their glasses to their comrade, who is temporarily stepping out of the celebrity spotlight to serve his mandatory 22 months in the Republic of Korea military.

Eventually, bodyguards had to form a human shield around the celebrities as throngs of fans from Korea and across Asia were drawn to the festivities at the snack stall, but that didn’t spoil the friendly atmosphere in the least as the celebs continued to celebrate Rain and send him off to his duty with great cheer. The crowd was moved by the display of friendship, and responded with remarks about how nice it was to see such strong support for the South Korean entertainer.

In additional news, Rain gave his final concert at the Gangnam Hanryu/K-Wave Festival earlier today, October 9 at 7 pm. The two-hour show, billed as The Last of The Best: K-Pop on Top, was a free street concert that required the closing of seven lanes off of YeongDong Boulevard, and drew over 20,000 fans and spectators.

Rain will be reporting for his six weeks of basic training this coming Tuesday, October 11, at the Uijeongbu 306 Reserve Troop Station. The star doesn’t yet know where he will be serving after his basic training, but that information should be forthcoming from him, so please stay tuned.

The Rain that saturated autumn fell on the Youngdong Grand Boulevard.

Rain appeared on his last stage all along the Youngdong Grand Boulevard in Seoul’s Gangnam District on the afternoon of the 9th, ahead of his entering the army.

Rain expressed his feelings while rehearsing under the autumn sky that was so blue and high before his performance, ‘Last of the Best’, “This is the first time for me to give a street performance after my debut..I’m so excited to make precious memories, interacting with the citizens.”

While the seven-lane boulevard was closed down for about two hours, his fans from all over Asia, including Korea, congregated to watch his performance.

Some of them had even been hanging out near the boulevard to get the best seats since 2 o’clock pm when the rehearsal was in the hopper.

Rain performed his hit songs over the past decade for two hours. He presented his fans ‘Rainism’, ‘How to Avoid the Sun’, ‘I’m Coming’ and more, including his debut song ‘Bad Guy’, with his powerful dance moves.

In attendance, there were swimming star ‘Park Tae Howan’, idol group MBLAQ, the cast of ‘Flight : Close to the Sun’ starring Rain, etc. including passing tourists from Asia such as Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, China and elsewhere. Even people who enjoyed the holiday, stopped walking and watched his performance, cheering loudly.

During the free outdoor performance on the day, there were 10,000 each of those who took seats in front of the stage and those who jammed on both sides of the boulevard, so 20,000 total. (statistics collected by Gangnam District).

Also, both more than 80 police officers and 90 exemplary taxi drivers were directing traffic around the site, and more than 150 from two police squadrons and ambulance service were prepared for every eventuality.

Rain who hit the stage amidst hearty cheers “Jung Ji Hoon, Jung Ji Hoon!”, greeted them as if it was embarrassing, “I had my hair cut yesterday..Because I have to enter the army..This is the first time I’ve had my hair cut in this style since my middle-school years.”

Continuing, “Time flies very fast and it has already been 10 years since I debuted. I think life is like a freeway. A car next to me can go faster than I, but if I drive fast to cast behind his or her car, I may create traffic hazard.

Even though you may be behind your competitors in terms of fulfilling that destiny, please don’t be frustrated and don’t be too downhearted.”

And, he added, “Now I try to drop by a kind of motorway service station. I think I’ll have to do a lot of work there. I’ll be back after working hard there.”

Rain who left the stage after the concert concluded with an ending song, reappeared to perform his hit songs such as ‘It’s Raining’ and ‘Instead of saying goodbye’ and more when the venue erupted in cheers, “Encore!”

Then he took out a handwritten letter and read it, saying “I couldn’t fall asleep so I wrote a letter.” After giving thanks to his fans, Rain said farewell to them, “I try to become a real man. I’ve come to have time to refresh myself. Entering the army at my age makes me embarrassed and sorry, but I’ll return the maturing ‘Jung Ji Hoon’.”

This concert was held as part of ‘Gangnam Haryu Festival’. Rain named an honorary ambassador for Gangnam District, was the first to offer to hold the concert, which attracted attention.

His concert was originally going to be held on the Dosan Grand Boulevard, but the venue was changed on the Yongdong Grand Boulevard to avoid the traffic.

Meanwhile, Rain’ll be on the active list by being called into 306 replacement depot in Eujungbu, Kyungki-do region, upcoming October 11th.

Rain shows off his new haircut at final concert before army enlistment

On October 9th, Rain performed his last concert before his army enlistment at the ’Kangnam Hallyu Festival‘, where he showed off his short new haircut.

To the cheers of 20,000 fans, Rain performed his hit songs like “Hip Song“, “Touch Ya“, and “You“. After completing those three songs, he greeted the audience by saying, “My hair’s pretty, right? Actually, my head looks like a chestnut if I don’t use hair products. It’s a hair style I’m trying for the first time since junior high school.”

He continued, “A lot of important people are here with me today, and they’re none other than all of you. I’ve been doing a lot of performance-oriented stages, so this time, I’ll focus on the singing.”

Also in attendance were his juniors, MBLAQ.

On the same day, Rain also attended the ‘16th Busan International Film Festival‘, his last activity as an actor before his enlistment.

Tweets abound: The quintessence of performance.

Quintessence:

1. The pure, highly concentrated essence of a thing.
2. The purest or most typical instance.
3. In ancient and medieval philosophy, the fifth and highest essence after the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, thought to be the substance of the heavenly bodies and latent in all things.

I think fans will agree that Rain always gives us his all of himself in his purest form on a silver platter during every performance. That’s just who he is. 🙂 ^@@^

Some of you may recall that actor Kim SungSoo played Rain’s (“YoungJae”) rival in Full House, “MinHyuk”. Hunk du jour MinHyuk was so charismatic and enamored with Han JiEun that he almost got her. Ha! 🙂

Rain gets preview of military life in new film

BUSAN — Rain will be entering the military to complete his mandatory two-year service for Korean men this week, but the mega pop star says he has already had an intense preview of army life through his upcoming air force movie.

“I experienced seven months of life in the barracks while shooting the movie,” said the 29-year-old Friday about “Soar Into the Sun.” “It was painful not being able to eat whenever I wanted.”

The press junket for the film, which is slated for theater release in 2012, marked one of his last public appearances. In “Soar,” Rain, or Jung Ji-hoon as he prefers to be called for acting projects, plays a free-spirited Air Force pilot who, after pulling off a dangerous stunt during an air show, gets demoted to the combat flying team.

There he meets the unit’s ace pilot (Yoo Joon-sang), to whom he loses for the first time. He matures through forming new rivalry relations, friendships and romantic ties and is put to the ultimate test when the team ventures into enemy territory.

The filming process entailed intense training that only the most elite minority undergo. The g-force test, which involves spinning in a machine at high velocity, proved to be especially difficult, say the actors.

“I almost fainted but regained consciousness almost miraculously,” said Rain. Yoo on the other hand passed out twice before finally passing the test on his third shot. “I was like the guinea pig for the movie; because I was the youngest among those that were set to do flying scenes I always had to go first.”

“Soar” is the first local project to feature a Boeing F-15K. It is also the first time an Asian film is portraying the Air Force.

“The movie will offer fans aerial sequences that have never been seen before in Korean cinema,” said director Kim Dong-hoon. He added that the film outsourced to the Hollywood team that worked on blockbusters such as “Inception” and “The Dark Knight” for the flying scenes.

For Rain, the film marks a special homecoming after working on Hollywood projects “Speed Racer” and “Ninja Assassin.”

Special homecoming project

“After shooting movies in the United States I really missed speaking Korean lines again,” he said. “But I was first and foremost drawn to the script and was amazed how all the actors that I thought would be perfect for the main roles ended up taking part in the film.”

In addition to Rain and Yoo, other cast members include starlet Shin Se-kyung, who recently made her big screen debut in “Hindsight”; actress Lee Ha-na, who makes a comeback after a long hiatus; and popular TV drama personality Kim Sung-soo. “We all became very, very good friends during the filming. We had a great team,” said Lee. Her co-stars revealed how talented a singer she is and Lee admitted that she is working on an album to be released next year.

Shin, who appears as a mechanic, said she felt more comfortable playing her down-to-earth role, wearing minimal make-up and casual clothes. Yoo, on the other hand, said he had to work out very hard to create a muscular build for his part. It marks a break away from his usual guy-next-door roles, most notably in dramas a la Hong Sang-soo. The actor is set to appear with the seminal French actress Isabelle Huppert in Hong’s next film.

“We had a lot of fun on the set but it was painful because everyone kept reminding me of how I was due for military service. I am happy though that I can leave with happy memories,” said Rain.

The singer-actor will begin his stint as an active-duty solder at the Uijeongbu 306 Reserve Battalion on Tuesday.
