Rain’s physical and mental fitness and determination to get a job done never ceases to amaze me. The Man is about as stubborn as an ox, and that’s going to get him even further than he already is. Mark my words!

Flight: Close To The Sun is going to be something else. I can’t wait! 😀

Rain discusses his training for upcoming movie, “Soar: Close To The Sun”

On October 7th, Rain took part in his last formal event before his scheduled enlistment in the army. Held at the culture hall at the New World Mall, Rain and his co-stars attended the production conference for his upcoming movie, “Soar: Close to the Sun“.

Rain plays the role of a combat pilot named ‘Jung Taehoon’, a role which requires intensive training to pull off. He had to go through several different tests to ensure the believability of his acting. He joked, “For the seven months during filming, it felt like I was going through actual military training. You can consider the intensity as going through seven extra months of mandatory army service.”

Fortunately, Rain’s stamina and strength helped him pull through the test. Real pilots must go through and pass a 6G gravity test, but Rain endured the test up to 9G. “During the test, my head snapped back and I fainted but I woke up and passed.” Fellow actor Yoon Jun Sang stated, “Normally, when heads snap back, people just faint right away, but Jihoon would get right back up. It was quite the feat.”

Yoon continued, “He’s a great dongseng, and I’m sad to have to see him go off to the army. He’s strong and dependable, as if he’s already been through the army, and I’m glad that he’s receiving so much love for his enlistment. He’s not a world star to us but just a comfortable younger brother.”

The Fugitive: Plan B and Chuno producer/director Kwak JungHwan and his new bride invited Rain to sing the nuptial songs at their October 6 wedding. Wow, how many times did he make them kiss? About a billion? Well, I’m fairly certain they didn’t mind. 😀

Stephe’s NOTE: I honestly don’t what was meant, in the original English translation, by pd Gwack Jung Howan (the bride). I don’t know if that should read Gwack Jung Howan and the bride, or Gwack Jung Howan (the groom). Because he sure as shootin’ ain’t the bride.^^

Hello, this is Jung Ji Hoon.

First, thanks to producer director Kwak JungHwan for the invitation…

Well, I hate to say this, but here goes.

The fact is, I made a film not long ago… As part of an effort to promote the film, I was originally going to leave for the Busan International Film Festival in order to walk on the Red Carpet, but [by calling me] more than ten times a day on the phone, PD Kwak  forced me to attend his wedding. So I gave up going to Busan and choose to be here.

In conclusion, attending his wedding is more important than walking on the Red Carpet to me. Congratulations and happiness on his wedding day, and I wish the newlyweds a lifetime of connubial bliss.

You might think I’m harsh for saying this, as what I’m going to do can be a mischievous prank, but… this wedding is a once in a lifetime chance, so I’m trying to do something exciting…

Well, there is a lyric in my song ‘I Do’ that goes, “I Do”… This song is about a man’s proposal to the one he loves. I hope the couple will kiss each other on the lips whenever the lyric comes out while I sing the song.  Do you know what I’m saying? (to the couple) Can you do so? You can only have fun (to the wedding guests).

Please play the music…

5:28~29
Please be happy. Thank you.

The Hollywood Reporter on Rain’s “Final” Pre-Military Press Event

•October 7, 2011 • 9 Comments

~ Cloud Cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Way over here in the U.S.A., it’s always extremely difficult for us to find Rain news, but ever since the news hit that Rain’s military enlistment was a go on October 11, news about him has been everywhere—in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The L.A. Times, some teeny, tiny newspaper in Topeka, Kansas—you freaking name it.  Everywhere, I say.

And now tonight I discover that Rain has even been featured in The Hollywood Reporter.  Really, U.S.  Media?  REALLY?  You do know that you’re trying to catch the train long after it has left the station, don’t you?  Sigh.

I was so irritated at seeing this that I almost didn’t even post about it, but then I thought, No, Terri, our Cloud readers are gonna wanna read it anyway, and if you don’t post it here, someone might miss it.  So here it is, Clouds—The Hollywood Reporter’s take on Rain at his Flight: Close to the Sun Press Conference in Busan.

Click on the article photo below to read the full article on The Hollywood Reporter’s website.  And please do enjoy.

[from Rain] This is my final concert before entering the Army.

Dear fans, please see below, Rain’s personal message posted on his official website today, October 7,  in Korean and Japanese. Dear, dear Media: Do you see how that works? Of course many of you still made the stupid mistake of calling Rain’s Best tours his last concert, and his performance at the Disabled People’s Art & Culture Festival his last concert instead of waiting for HIM to clue you in on his last concert himself. Like now. Hard habits die slow, huh?

[*Stephe’s NOTE: The original translation stated October 11, but the correct date is October 9, so I changed that. The 11th is his enlistment day.]

<From rain-jihoon> Rain’s message_I let you know about my last concert.

I let you know about my last concert.

Hi, this is ‘Jung Ji Hoon’ (Rain)

Before entering the army, I’ve come to give my last performance in front of you.

As this performance would aim to turn the festival into a special occasion before I enter the army, to let the entire world know our country’s performing arts, and to give many people chances of enjoying it at a cost of nothing, I’m just filled with gratitude, not only that the performance give me a chance to repay you again for all your love over the past ten years, but also that I’m afforded the chance to make it to the best of my ability.

I try to prepare for the day’s performance with my full fervor and effort as I have to leave the stage for a while.

I hope to get a lot of interest and love from you, and hope you to enjoy the performance more excitedly and safely as the road will be blocked during the performance.

I’ll see you on the Yeongdong Grand Boulevard at 7pm on 9 October.

In the meantime, enjoy the visuals of Rain talking about his TIME 100 time line, his 2010 MTV Badass odyssey (okay, Hoon, you’ve been enamored with Scarlett for over a year now… psssst, just letting you know she’s FREE. So go, go NOW. *grin* FYI: I’m not talking about “getting to the church on time” necessarily, either), and… did they ask him about what he would be doing at age 40, maybe? Remember this, KPop and Rain fans, from back last Christmas?

Preview Magazine’s focus article Living Color: Snap, Crackle, Pop—why the red-hot East Asian pop music movement is more than just a flash in the pan, published in its December 2010 issue.

This article was an introductory but well-written piece on why people definitely needed to take Korean Pop Music seriously, and included information on Rain, the Wonder Girls, 4Minute, 2PM, SNSD, Big Bang, f(x), C.N. Blue, and a host of others artists who were helping to drive the second Hallyu Wave forward.

The way they described Rain was pretty right on. We appreciated the compliments to him.

“His name is Rain: probably the biggest superstar South Korea has ever known, crossover king RAIN (real name: Jung JiHoon) remains the poster boy for the Hollywood rags-to-riches story.”

And:

“The trend continues, with more than ten acts coming to Manila in 2010 alone, a prolific—and sometimes bizarre—list that includes everyone from bubblegum cuties U-Kiss to Hollywood success and industry god and multi-hyphenate Rain.”

Multi-hyphenate indeed! Dancer-singer-actor-designer-producer-spokesperson-ambassador-King of KPop-philanthropist-BadAss-megastar entertainer. Whew! (I keep thinking I’ve left something out…) 😀

[article] Rain lived inside a military compound for seven months while shooting “Flight: Close to the Sun.”

*Edited to Add: BY THE WAY, FOLKS, the director is just kidding here. He is giving Rain A COMPLIMENT. So don’t get bent out of shape. Thanks. :/

“He [Rain] is very handsome and even a very talented actor. Whatever the work, he disgustingly does it so well.” LOL! Poor Mr. Director! It’ll be okay, sir. 😀

°

Osen / Nate News 10/7/2011 — [English translation by rain bird @rain-eu.]

Rain lived inside a military compound for seven months while shooting “Flight : Close to the Sun”

Singer and actor Rain attended a debrief meeting (conference) of his new film “Flight : Close to the Sun” held in Culture Hall inside the Shinsege Department in Busan city’s Centum City on the afternoon of the 7th .

Rain who is about to enter the army upcoming October 11th, said at the meeting, “I lived inside a military compound for seven months while shooting the movie. As you may already know, my hardest thing is that they stop giving me food when I have a craving for something to eat. I couldn’t eat a thing, exclusive of three meals a day at the Army camp. That was the most difficult time of the process of shooting the movie.”

Continuing, “I seemed to listen to stories about life in the Army a thousand times while shooting the movie.

The actors in the film even teased me, but I’ll take care of my military life. Everybody was taking great delight in teasing me in the waiting room even a little while ago, but I can truly say I feel happy,” which made people laugh.

Rain plays a fighter pilot having a gift for flying combat aircraft in the film.

Director ‘Kim Dong Won’ spoke of Rain’s performance in the film in glowing terms by mincing words, “Jealousy over his extraordinary versatility makes me angry. He is very handsome and even a very talented actor. Whatever the work, he disgustingly does it so well.”

‘Flight : Close to the Sun’ is about love and lives of fighter pilots betting their lives on the sky, and the cast of characters in the movie includes Rain, actress “Shin Se Kyung’, actor ‘Yu Joon Sang’, ‘Kim Sung Soo’ and more, which is supposed to be quite more anticipated.

Meanwhile, ‘Flight : Close to the Sun’ is scheduled to be released next January.

Asia Economy 10/6/2011 — [English translation by rain bird @rain-eu.]

Gangnam Festival in which Rain is scheduled to participate, will be held on the Yeongdong Grand Boulevard, not on the Dosan Grand Boulevard

There is always heavy traffic on the Dosan Grand Boulevard where Gangnam Festival will be held in which Rain is scheduled to participate at 7pm on 9 October, so Gangnam District has chosen to move the event to a different location, the Yeongdong Grand Boulevard in front of Korea Electric Power Corporation (‘Hanjeon’, an abbreviation for Korea Electric Power Corporation) in Samsung-dong, taking all the situations.

[notice][Oct-06-2011]<Notice from rain-jihoon>We inform you that the venue for the 2011 Gangnam Hanryu Festival has been changed[English translation by rain bird @rain-eu.]

Hi, this is J.Tune Camp.

The venue for the 2011 Gangnam Hanryu Festival, hosted and arranged by Gangnam District and CJ, in which Rain is scheduled to participate upcoming October 11th, has been changed.

The venue has been changed to the Yeongdong Grand Boulevard in front of COEX (or Korea Electric Power Corporation) in Samsung-dong due to the organizers’ unavoidable circumstances.

Please refer to the following.

1) The show is called : 2011 Gangnam Hanryu Festival.

2) Date : 9 October 2011 (Sun), at 7pm.

3) Location : Rain’ll give a live performance on a specially prepared stage on the Yeongdong Grand Boulevard in front of COEX (or Korea Electric Power Corporation) in Samsung-dong.

4) Cast : RAIN

5) Host : Gangnam Culture Foundation.

6) Sponsorship : Gangnam District Office, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. COEX.

We hope that many of you will participate and support him as he is about to enter the army.

{Edited to Add:  J.Tune Camp has put up a notice on Rain’s official site that says his Gangnam Hanryu performance has been changed from Dosan Boulevard in front of the park to YeongDong Grand Boulevard in front of the COEX (the Korea Electric Power Company, KEPCO). As we understand it, the change is due to a dangerous traffic situation on Dosan Boulevard.

°

We had just asked in an earlier post if Rain’s special stage at the Gangnam Hanryu/K-Wave/Fashion Festival had been switched… This article on CNN GO says that the main part of the festival is in front of the COEX mall entrance, while Rain’s concert is still slated for Dosan Boulevard. So it is all the same general area, apparently.

HOWEVER: There is a new notice just put up by J.Tune camp about the matter, so we’ll just wait on translation before posting a final word on location, because the Google Translated version is NOT clear.

Stephen Colbert has been dreaming of this day. Okay, that’s hilarious. LOL!

CNN GO: Stephen Colbert has been dreaming of this day.

CNN GO 10/5/2011 —

Rain’s final concert this Sunday

Glimpse the abs of South Korea’s only “world star” for the last time before he joins the army.

Weeping will ensue en masse this weekend, as South Korea’s biggest pop star and Stephen Colbert’s arch-nemesis, Rain, will perform in the public for the last time before enlisting in the South Korean military.

The “Ninja Assassin” star’s free good-bye concert will be held on Sunday, October 9, as part of the Gangnam Fashion Festival 2011.

It is sure to be a tearful affair on both sides: “Concerts to me are like life on a smaller scale,” Rain told CNN Talk Asia in 2009.

Rain begins his mandatory, 22-month, Republic of Korea Army service on Tuesday, October 11.

Arguably Asia’s most well-known entertainer, the 29-year-old singer/actor debuted in 2002. With seven albums to date, he is one of Asia’s best-selling recording artists.

After acting in hit Korean dramas and movies, the K-Pop entertainer appeared in 2008’s “Speed Racer,” and starred in the 2009 Hollywood film “Ninja Assassin.”

For the latter, he picked up the “Biggest Badass Award” at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

Named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” in 2006, Rain also made it onto People’s “Most Beautiful People” list in 2007.

This year, he topped Time Magazine’s online poll for “100 Most Influential People” for the third year in a row.

The singer will undergo basic training in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, but said on his website that it is yet undetermined where he will serve.

Although the main events of the eight-day Fashion Festival will be held in the plaza in front of Coex East Gate in Samseong-dong, Rain’s final show will be held on Dosan Boulevard in front of Apgujeong’s Dosan Park.

The entire boulevard will be blocked off that evening for the concert, which is scheduled from 7-9 p.m.

The show is free. Bring your own Kleenex.

ORIGINAL POST

… at their Gangnam Hanryu/W-Wave Festival set for October 9.

What we want to know is: Has there been a change/correction in venue for Rain’s 7 pm performance, or is this just more detailed performance information? These posters having URGENT on them, and tweets about the location being the KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Company) store front at Samsung COEX mall is why we’re asking that question. J.Tune’s previous notice specified the location as Dosan Grand Boulevard in Gangnam District’s Shinsa-Dong.

For all we know, these could all be the exact same place, but it never hurts to ask and be sure.

You know you’re a Cloud when your own MOTHER comes careening up to your desk like some wild woman—having set eyes on the MENtholatum ad you just put up—and desperately begs you to make the picture just a little BIGGER. So. This is for you, mom. Your boy Rain, who you are so in the closet about. Welcome to the Gun Show (and all the rest of the ammo too)! LOL!

Interesting! The folks at the 2011 Gangnam Hanryu (K-Wave) Festival, coming up on the 9th, used both Rain’s Flight: Close To The Sun promo imagery AND concert imagery for their official posters announcing his free concert there. And the posters are also partially in English. Nice! (Images: Korean Tweeter moonbori @PhotoNui, 10/4/11)

Posted on the official MENtholatum micro-blog today. Hm. One of these a day could get a little difficult to bear! *up for the challenge, though*

… on the evening of September 29.

We’d wondered if Mr. Feliciano had made it or not, because we hadn’t seen any reports on him at the event. Thanks to this article at Able News (the link was posted on The Cloud Rain News Board today by huda), we see that he did indeed make it and the whole thing appears to have been a great success.

Love the image of the Clouds there, cheering Rain on! 🙂

The article is in Korean, but we’re posting it so that you can see the pictures.

And guess what? » The Webzine is still there, and his CoolPix CF and making of CF still play beautifully. Go have a little fun. (Looks to me that, loosely translated, the yellow slogan is advising you to focus your attention on what’s on his chest. No problem. 😀 )
