Word on the street: Rain’s case against Star M is dropped by mutual consent?

As you all know, we are very careful here when it comes to reprinting Rain lawsuit news because we know how sloppy, careless, and ratings-driven the Korean Media can be with their reporting, and we will not be a party to spreading articles about Rain simply because his name is in them. So, do take this with a grain of salt. However…

When » we first heard about Rain deciding to finally fight back against his slanderers after he enlisted, and deservedly so, we were solidly behind him. Likewise, we now hope that he has found compensation and peace of mind. Anyone with sense knows that Rain would never deliberately cheat his fans out of a concert or botch his own long-awaited U.S. debut. How stupid does that sound? ^@@^

News 1 / News Nate 4/2/2013 — [Brief translation by 화니 @The Cloud Rain News Board]

Rain’s case against Star M is dropped by mutual consent

Singer Rain lodged a ₩ 4 billion compensation claim against ‘Well Made Star M Inc’ (hereafter referred to as Star M), which was in charge of his World Tour concert in 2006~2007, claiming that it had unilaterally cancelled his concert in USA, but he dropped the suit on the 20th of last month as it was resolved through settlement prior to court.

The details of the damages included ₩ 2.7 billion (Rain paid Click Entertainment, the local subsidiary in Hawaii, due to the cancellation of his concert in the region) and ₩ 1.3 billion (Rain brought an action of libel against Star M and demanded ₩ 1.3 billion in compensation.)

According to an official from Star M, “The case is closed by mutual consent, and Rain and Star M have consented not to disclose the full details of the agreement.”

[article] Should North Korea’s Pandering Propaganda Worry K-Pop Fans?

Cloud USA co-founder Terri’s take on the alarming situation on the Korean peninsula, for K-Pop fans. Well done, Terri.

Should North Korea’s Pandering Propaganda Worry K-Pop Fans?

CelebritySoldiers

K-Pop fans care a great deal about happenings that could potentially affect South Korea and their favorite Korean idols. So, as North Korea’s talk of war has escalated over recent weeks, we have become increasingly uneasy. Adding to our worry is the fact that some of our favorite K-Pop idols like RainSe7en, and Leeteuk, and actor Yoo Seung Ho, for example, are currently completing their mandatory military service in one of Republic of Korea’s three Armed Forces branches.

Certainly, the “warmongering rhetoric” coming out of North Korea is disturbing to more than just K-Pop fans. Kim Jong-un’s talk of being in a “state of war” with South Korea and of potentially carrying out a “preemptive nuclear strike” on the United States, its territories and its military units based in South Korea and Japan is being taken seriously not only by the U.S. and its allies, but also by much of the rest of the world. North Korea is behaving so badly at this point that even one of its staunchest allies, China, has called, “for all sides to ease tensions.” Even the Russian foreign ministry has urged everyone involved to “show restraint.”

133781

On the other hand, the United States National Security Council has reminded everyone that North Korea “has a long history of bellicose rhetoric and threats,” and that the announcements currently coming from its leadership are following a “familiar pattern.” Also, South Korean personnel of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a “joint economic cooperation zone between the two Koreas situated on the North’s side of the border,” went to work on Saturday as usual–despite Kim Jong-un’s recent “invalidation” of the Korean Armistice Agreement. The South Korean government itself remains watchful and wary of the situation, but is downplaying this turn of events.  South Korean Armed Forces are also continuing to participate in the joint war exercises with the U.S., which were reportedly the cause of Kim Jong-un’s provocation in the first place.

So what does all of this mean to your average K-Pop fan? Should we really be worried about these events occurring in Korea? Frankly, no. No, we should not. But that’s easier said than done, isn’t it?

When the possibility exists that people we care about might be put in harm’s way, it’s only natural for us to want to worry. Still, what good does worrying do? If we worry ourselves sick, is it going to make the situation better? Is it going to make it go away? No, it will not. Worrying does not help anything. Instead, worry only makes us, well, worried. It also makes us pretty ineffective, when you really think about it.

yoo-seung-ho-military

But what if something happens in Korea, we ask, dejectedly? What if Kim Jong-un follows through on his threats and attacks South Korea or the U.S.? Well, what if he does? Do we think that by worrying we are going to make anything better? The chances are that worrying will just make us feel even worse than we already feel now.

It would be great to be able to say that, in the end, everything will turn out all right.  Unfortunately, no one can really say that with any surety.  Not even me.  However, there are a lot of people around the world who care about Korea and who are working extremely hard to make sure that the situation with North Korea doesn’t get out of control.  So, I think that the best tack is to let those people do their jobs and have a little faith, huh?

So, if we’re making the decision not to worry, then what do we do instead?  Below are some suggestions for you:

  •  First, don’t worry.
  • Write your favorite idols, family members and friends who are currently serving in the military somewhere in the world and let them know that they are loved, missed and greatly appreciated.
  • Write a letter to your local political representative/the leader of your country/the U.N. and tell them you want “POP (Peace on the Peninsula) for K-Pop.”
  • Tell everyone you want “POP (Peace on the Peninsula) for K-Pop” on Twitter and on Facebook.
  • Visit news international media outlets, find all of their stories about K-Pop and the North Korea situation, and in the comments sections tell everyone that you want “POP (Peace on the Peninsula) for K-Pop.”
  • Share the image below everywhere.

Do you have any fun suggestions of your own?  Please feel free to post them in the comment section below.  (And please don’t worry!)

Loved the “pep” in somebody’s step!  He was very smart to only give his all during his soldier duties and daily mandatory training since his stint in the hospital last summer, and to let his back rest on the DEMA stage. I’m glad he stopped dancing back then. If he had continued to do so all this time, in addition to everything else, there’s no telling what might have happened to jeopardize his future. Now, he’ll be up to speed and in perfect shape after discharge.

But hey, like I said, he’s smart like that.

Dear fan cammer, excellent work! And an even a wider version too? Bravo!^^ ^@@^

The gist of this post: The best way to build large muscles is to stop using dumbbells and use sandbags instead. Bags of sand continuously move and change with your movements and make you adjust your balance, and you exercise more muscles that way, unlike with single muscle dumbbells. Using multiple muscles makes it easier to see the effects of fitness/bodybuilding… ^@@^

Q.How are you doing just before your discharge?

….I have been our squad commander for about a month and have now passed this duty to Corporal Jung Ji Hoon….

Q. Of your successors, who will haunt your memories most after you discharge?

Corporal Jung Ji Hoon, with whom I have spent a lot of time together here at DEMA. He feels quite sad now and even asked me to stay, hahaha…

Q. Reserve Sergeant Lim Ju Huan has written a message to you: “Jae Wook, how should we tease Ji Hoon? Should we travel overseas together, take a picture and send to him?”

Sending him such a picture is basic stuff. To be accurate, there is a 97 days gap between our military service. I have been thinking everyday how to fill this 97 days gap interestingly, as it will never come back again. For example, Corporal Jung Ji Hoon really wants to wear a suit now. He always said that when he is discharged, he wants to wear a smart suit. Since I will be discharged before him, may be I will wear a suit to visit him in the camp. I have been thinking about this^^

Rain Refreshes Harvard High-Flyers After Chosun Ilbo Visit

Some 60 students of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government stomp and whistle, while several shout in Korean, “I love you!” and “You are gorgeous!” They are responding to the image of their hero, the workaholic Korean superstar, on the screen. A shot of the singer’s six-pack prompts some female students to sigh, “Oh, my god.” All of them laugh.

Twenty minutes later Rain, in a beige jacket and jeans, appears on the podium and the room erupts in a blizzard of flashlights. ”Nice to meet you all from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government”, Rain says in English before answering questions from students for 20 minutes. Asked, “What’s the difference between before and after becoming a star?” Rain answers, “When I was a trainee, I practiced dancing and singing over and over without eating, sleeping and washing for six days. At that time, I danced and sang songs to make a living, but now I sing songs for my fans.” Rain plans to give concerts in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco in June. “I’d like to invite you all,” he adds.

0328-rain-and-ks
Before meeting the star, the students, who are on a visit to Seoul, took a look around the headquarter of the Chosun Ilbo. They toured the newspaper’s Ubiquitous Media Lab and watched a video about the daily.

Chosun Ilbo president Bang Sang-hoon told them, “Now, Korean newspapers face two challenges—new media, including Internet media, and friction with the government. But we’re trying to overcome challenges by producing premium content.” Students also listened to a lecture about the Chosun Ilbo’s cross-media project, which provides features at the same time through the newspaper, TV, the Internet and video.

Students from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government took pictures together in the Chosun Ilbo building in Seoul on Tuesday.

The visiting group met Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon in the afternoon and head for Japan on Wednesday.

Blast from the past #193: Rain’s 2007 Global Fan Meeting in Showbiz Korea Magazine

•March 24, 2013 • 3 Comments

SBK1

~Cloud Cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Dear Clouds,

I thought you might enjoy taking another look at these images and information from the first issue of Showbiz Korea Magazine, in 2007.  These images I am posting were scanned directly from a copy of the original magazine, which was one of a number of precious Rain mementos graciously donated to Cloud USA some years ago by the lovely Cloud Heart888, from Hawaii.

It is a shame that it took me so long to figure out how to scan images from these magazines without their looking horrible.  These came out well this time, though, and I’m very glad, because I didn’t want these items to sit here any longer without being shared with all of you.

The global fan meeting featured in the magazine was one that Rain held on March 4, 2007, in Seoul Korea.  During the meeting, Rain performed, answered questions, and even fed fans from 20 countries around the world.  Some of the Clouds there had even prepared their own acts and entertained Rain with them.  How fun.  :-}

Maybe someday, there will be another global fan meeting somewhere that we can enjoy.  In the meantime, please enjoy these pics.  Just zoom in on the article’s pages to read the story.

Wishing you many Rainy days,

Terri :-}

Well, look at that!  While Cloud USA was organizing our own Saint Valentine’s Day project for Rain here in the U.S., Latin American countries were busy organizing their own lovely effort.

Above are some photos of the Valentine’s Day cards Cloud Chile sent to Rain for their “My Sweet Valentine” project.  The project was sponsored by Cloud Chile and the Latin Cloud Union.  The letters and cards were sent directly to Rain’s army address, to cheer him on and show support.

According to Nathi29, on The Cloud, this was a project that was carried out in several Latin American countries.  Such sweet clouds!

If there are any other photos of any more fan clubs from this project, I do hope someone will share them where we can find them.  [Note: Please see the new photos in the gallery below, which include Cloud Peru’s contribution to the project.]

It was back last summer when we all learned that R2B: Return to Base (2012), South Korea’s very first aerial combat blockbuster, starring Rain (a.k.a. Jung JiHoon), had been purchased prior to its Korean release by some 30 countries. (A second article is HERE.)

Since then, the movie (as R2B: Return to Base, or Return To Base, or Soar Into The Sun, or Black Eagle) has landed for theatrical premieres in South Korea, the U.S.A., Canada, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the London Korean Film Festival in England and Scotland, in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan. It has also been released on DVD and Blu-ray all over Asia, and on DVD in North America and the United Kingdom.

But that’s only 13 countries. We couldn’t help wondering what was going on in the other places, especially Europe.

Well, folks, R2B seems to have indeed made a global path across the planet, not just some of it. You just have to overcome language and server barriers to find it on DVD, Video on Demand, local television, and Internet portals from outside of those places that bought it.

Here are three sources for six of those additional countries, plus a serious movie database in a seventh country that rivals any other.

We’ll be sure to bring you any more locations if they come to light. (Or, if you find them first, do drop us a line.) Happy viewing!

As of this posting, the film is not available on Splendid Film Germany, though it was reportedly bought by them as well. It may have already been there, or we simply overlooked it. Movies Now, India. High Definition TV channel throughout the Republic of India. R2B: Return to Base is not on the schedule as of this posting, but if they did buy it as reported, with this being daily television, the film could have already had a broadcasting run OR be in the queue for upcoming broadcasts. Filmweb, Poland. The largest Polish website dedicated to movies and people in the industry, reportedly the second largest film base in the world (IMDb is the first). Users add, rate, and review films, discuss news, and partake of galleries, forums, and contests. The R2B: Return to Base page has different movie posters, a gallery, and comments.

I was very impressed when I easily found one of the most extensive cast and crew lists for R2B that I’ve seen on the Internet. Better than R2B pages on IMDb, or even some Korean portals (Daum’s is pretty good, however), or even any of the movie’s own websites. For one of the best compiled lists of actors and production crew, I had to go to Poland. What’s up with that. Filmweb gets a huge thumbs up from me! (CLICK on image to go to page.)

I knew there were definite similarities that day in 2010 that I almost posted this picture of Junho that Chansung took.

My two eyes thought it was Rain before I did a double-take. 🙂 ^@@^

Twin Zone: Rain and 2PM’s Junho

Junho-and-Rain

Now if you all do not see this then I’m going to flip a table! Not like this is anything new but if you don’t know Junho from K-POP group, 2PM then you can’t possibly know that he looks just like our world star Rain! It’s everything from the eyes, to the smile, just everything! So the question this time is not do you think they look alike, but which one do you prefer?!

[K-Pop Battle] Se7en vs. Rain

Se7en is not only Rain’s original rival in K-Pop, the YG artist joined the ranks of the star as a man in uniform when he entered the army on March 19.

It’s been quite some time since we saw Se7en and Rain face off with their music, and because we may have to wait a little while longer for the rivals to battle it out on stage, they’re going head to head in this week’s K-Pop Battle.

Se7en

It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Se7en literally rolled onto the K-Pop scene in his heelys with his 2003 debut single Come Back to Me.

Following hits like PassionI Know, and La La La, Se7en briefly crossed over to the U.S., before returning to fans with mini album Digital Bounce in 2010.

And although it has become increasingly difficult for solo artists to find a footing in the idol group-crazes K-Pop world, Se7en not only scored big in 2012 with When I Can’t Sing, he made headlines for teaming up with rival Rain’s mentor, Park Jin Young, for the track.

Ten years ago, Se7en had us counting to, well, seven (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!) And now we’re counting down the days to his return. Yes, already.

Rain

While Se7en’s army life is just beginning, Rain, who entered the army in 2011, is set to return to fans’ and one lucky lady’s arms this summer, when he is relieved of his duties in July.
Rain made his K-Pop debut in 2002 with Bad Guy an followed up with hits like How to Avoid the SunIt’s RainingI Do,Rainism and Love Song.

The entertainer went on to achieve “world star” status through a decorated acting career as well, starring in drama Full House to Hollywood film Ninja Assassin.

Although Rain faced a few speed bumps recently related to allegations he was receiving special treatment during his service, loyal fans are anxiously awaiting the star’s return.

If you’re not feeling nostalgic yet, recall some of your favorite old school K-Pop moments with these two stars and vote for your favorite HERE!
