O M G! I think this is going to be nine ways to epic!!

As mentioned in my previous post in this series, Rain returned to the Inkigayo stage with a comeback special in October of 2008, and did so with a forceful vengeance serving up a hearty plateful of raw and explosive sexuality with Rainism. He also brought along the tender and very plaintive Love Story, which was (no doubt) on the opposite end of the spectrum, yet mighty powerful all unto itself.
The first single from Rainism was actually Love Story and is perhaps my most favorite Rain song yet. Yes, I go through my stages of cracking out on various of his songs at any given time. I went on a Chajayo bender once for about a week (such a funky jam). But Love Story is my constant. And it never fails to wreck me each and every time I watch it OR listen to it, for that matter.
Rain had already been making the rounds with both Love Story and Rainism before he came to Inkigayo. Where Rainism is basically shouting “I’m THE MAN!!,” Love Story is achingly pleading, “I was your man and I still want to be your man, please let me be your man again.” The dichotomy of these two songs is evident. The fact that Rain released them both as singles, brilliant.
This song literally rips my heart out, throws it against the wall and smashes it to shreds. So. Very. Powerful.
I have watched so many versions of Love Story and I think one of the reasons it shakes me to my core is that it is always filmed with the camera taking liberty of moving in very close to his face and him deeply and intensely looking into the lens. This version is no exception to that effective Rain tactic. He is so intent on telling his story almost as if he is singing to us fans, imploring us to stay and love him. His lyrics say a lot, his eyes say so much more.
Inasmuch as Rain is a pretty solid actor and those skills do come in handy when performing on the musical stage such as this, he need not call upon those skills here to convey the depth of hurt and subtle rage (love when he grabs his tie and violently loosens it) these lyrics bring him to. No, I get the feeling he lived what he singing here.
I also found a short pre-performance interview. It is not subbed but you can still get the gist of the conversation. When the MC asks Rain to show us a little of that Rainism choreography, Rain shyly obliges and then seems to literally blush afterwards. RAIN!! How in the world can you go from singing about a magic stick that can make a body shake to THAT?
Love this man.♥

Now that’s how you promote an upcoming show, by having Rain’s music videos and the Rain Effect album on tap. Nice. 🙂
I’m not sure what the March 4 date is referring to (the Beijing showcase is on 3/28), but seeing as Rain will be in China around March 3 for popular Chinese variety show “Happy Camp” and with it being said that he is to also meet the Media at that time, looks to me like a giveaway where 20 fans can either win a spot at that press conference (slated for 3 PM) or at the show itself. Looks like the Rain Effect Comeback Special that was filmed in Korea and aired on Mnet Korea back in January is going to be broadcast on Mnet Japan in March. And there’s some kind of giveaway going on, too. Cool.

Hold on to anything that is not securely fastened down because things are about to go primal and wild!
Rain ended 2006 and rolled into 2007 on such a high note with the success of Rain’s World and his critically acclaimed performance in I’m A Cyborg But That’s Okay. His schedule was jam-packed for 2007 with touring as well as landing a supporting role in a Hollywood film (his first), the Wachowski’s Speed Racer. Momentum was indeed building.
In 2007, he also left JYP Entertainment and began building his own entertainment empire. He was, to put it mildly, unstoppable.
Rain released Rainism, his 5th album, on October 16, 2008. If we thought he could not come at us with any more explosive and aggressive sensuality than he did with It’s Raining, we were sorely mistaken.
Having that two-year hiatus from making new music was certainly not a deficit for Rain. Oh no, not at all. On October 19, 2008, he arrived back on the Inkigayo stage with a comeback special and tore the place up proper with the title track from the new album. He also performed Love Story, the first single released from the album. In order to keep the hot quotient to a minimum, however, I will feature that performance in a separate post. I also want to give it some special love because it is my favorite Rain song. 🙂
Simply put, Rainism is a force to be reckoned with. It comes at you with an energy I cannot even describe nor can modern technology measure adequately.^^ It is provocative and sexy and intense. As Rain was maturing, so was his music. The more he embraced his sensual side, the more he shared it. The censors were none too pleased, but his fans — well, his fans loved it.
The choreography for Rainism is an all-out assault on the senses. I can only hope that each and every one of you who has yet to experience Rain live sees this one performed live and up close. It must be experienced.
Rain can swag it up with the best of them and, better than most. However, he has that secret weapon others do not (at least in the quantity and quality he carries). He has that genuine humbleness and sweetness that sits at the core of who he is and he never forgets that it is there. It is an intrinsic part of who he chose to be from the very beginning, and who he remains to be to this very day.
I mean seriously, first we get raw, explosive intensity:
And then absolute adorableness:
This is what continues to capture our hearts over and over. I love that he loses himself so completely in a performance and equally adore the unimaginable cute he throws at us time and time again. He is an incredibly adept showman but more importantly, he’s an incredibly endearing man.♥

2/23/14. The crew is now in Melbourne, and Brisbane was nothing compared to that, believe it or not. Yesterday, there was a mix-up of locations and such bedlam in Melbourne (not everyone was out of control, but a lot of them were, so much to where the police were overwhelmed) and it turned so dangerous that the crew stayed hidden away off the street (quaking in their boots, I’ll bet) and there’s now a lock-down on any information concerning the shooting locations. ^@@^

2/24/2014. Pictures are beginning to pour in from Melbourne, and things seem to be going a little better today. Whereas yesterday, Rain was paired up with Gwangsoo (the Blue Team!), today he’s paired up with one of my favorites, Kim JongKook (the Strong Team, muscles plus muscles!)
The RunningFansSydney Twitter (via @kkimlam, through a translator) has reported that the overcrowding is ruining the shooting schedules because, simply, nothing can be filmed properly with throngs overrunning both the rumored locations and the real locations. On top of that, there is a language barrier that makes it hell to actually secure alternate locations in a timely fashion. RM is grateful for the fan interest and attention, but money and time are being compromised now. Hopefully RM can get all the footage they need to air the show and no one gets hurt, especially the crew, guest stars, and the fans who are trying to behave in the midst of everything. ^@@^

Well, well, well!
According to our global Cloud sisters, Rain Cloud Chile, the source of this capture from when Rain, BbaekGa, and KyuSang were in New York recently—and the pretty lady in the picture—is Rain’s friend Hye Park.

So, what I’m wondering is…
Is this the Korean-American supermodel Hye Park, who did the AMAZING cover and magazine spread with Rain for Harper’s Bazaar in November 2008? (Which made him the very first Korean male model to be on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, quite a feat.) Interesting!
If it’s a different Hye Park (that’s happened to me before—I got Rain’s friend/ex-dancer Park Namyong mixed up with his Fugitive Plan B stunt double Park Namyong because they looked like twins and had the same name), at least I got the chance to revisit Rain’s Bazaar photo shoot, right? ^@@^

My Adventures with Korean Cooking
By Cloud Contributor Alicia (@lee24_ans)
Boiled Potatoes and Beef/Kamja Chorim (감자조림)
Howdy, Clouds. It’s Lee24 here, with the initial installment of a series called “My Adventures with Korean Cooking.” First, let me say that my interest in Korean cuisine has nothing to do with the fact that I am a fan of World Star Jung Ji-Hoon (Rain).
Okay, I’m totally lying. It has everything to do with him. Over time, watching someone eat as much as he does, you tend to see a lot of Korean food. After awhile, I got curious as to how that food might taste.
So, to cure my curiosity, I did the most sensible thing I could think of. I went to a Korean restaurant. I bet you thought I was gonna say I bought a cookbook, didn’t you? Ha ha ha! Well, I did, but that came later.
Everybody loves beef and potatoes right? Me too. Unlike most women, I don’t have a “light appetite,” so I need food that will, like my mom used to say, “stick to your ribs.”
This hearty potato dish is enhanced with sesame oil, a traditional Korean seasoning. It’s simple to cook and doesn’t take up too much of your time. Plus, it tastes great.
I hope you enjoy cooking and eating it as much as I do.
Boiled Potatoes and Beef/Kamja Chorim (감자조림)
Servings: 4
Note: This recipe calls for boneless rib meat, but I didn’t have any beef rib meat. Instead, I used beef steak, and it turned out fine. You can also use chicken with chicken stock or tofu and vegetable stock, if you’re a vegetarian. Also be careful with the boiling of the potatoes. The recipe calls for medium heat, but everyone’s stove is different. So, adjust accordingly, so that your potatoes don’t crumble. I didn’t have green peppers. So, I used green bell peppers.
Ingredients:
5 potatoes (1 ¾ lbs, 800g)
7 oz (700g) boneless beef rib
3 dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked in water (until finished prepping other ingredients)
5 small green peppers
2 tbsp salad oil
1 tsp sesame oil
Seasoning – A
1 tsp ground chili pepper
½ tsp crushed garlic
Cooking Sauce
2 cups beef stock
3 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. sake
⅔ tbsp. sugar
½ tbsp mirin
1. Peel and slice potatoes ½ inch sizes.
2. Soak in water to remove starch, then drain.
3. Cut beef in long rectangles. Cut mushrooms and bell peppers.
4. In an 8-inch pot, heat salad oil until hot. Add potatoes and beef. Stir-fry over high heat until oil coats the meat and potatoes. Add Seasoning A.
5. Combine cooking sauce ingredients, then add to pot.
6. Cook over medium heat until sauce is reduced to half.
7. Add mushrooms and continue to cook. Stir in green peppers and immediately remove from heat. Pour sesame oil rolling around the sides of pot.
8. Enjoy!

Once again, the man comes outside looking Drop Dead Gorgeous. What the heck, Rain. You trying to kill a Cloud, mister? 🙂
(My mind is playing tricks on me. “Marilyn Monroe”, off of the Rain Effect album, is playing loudly and clearly as I look at these pictures, but only in my head. Is that happening to anyone else out there?)
Holy smokes—there’s Running Man host (and my favorite comedic TV personality) Yoo JaeSuk right at Rain’s left shoulder! Cool. And Kim JongKuk with his muscles safely covered *squeal!*, haha, and actor/model guest Kim WooBin. Heck, looks like the Running Man gang for the special episode in Australia was all there at Incheon.

Seven months and eleven days ago, I met Marisol Varela outside of the West Gate of the Defense Media Agency in Seoul, South Korea. And although she was from Spain (by way of Uruguay) and I from the US, we shared a very important mission that day, welcoming Rain back to civilian life after his military service in the ROK Army.
I later spent some time with Marisol and fellow Spanish Cloud, Myriam (both seen in the picture above along with sister Cloud Odette Santos from the Philippines) enjoying the sights and sounds of Seoul and also recouping from the events of that trying day (July 10, 2013) when we saw Ji Hoon emerge from that gate.
Marisol is one of the most gentlest and artistic souls that I have ever met. And you will see by her gorgeous fanmade video below how sincere and deep her love for Rain is. Dreamy and ethereal, with Pablo Alborán’s gorgeous song Solamente Tú as the soundtrack, she captures the essence and beauty of Rain as he has touched her life and heart…much like he has done to us all. Gracias, Marisol….y muchos besos y abrazos. ♥

If you are having a bad day, this performance will chase all the blues away, I promise. ^^
After an explosive and very successful 2004, Rain did not return with a new album until October of 2006. Nevertheless, he had himself a busy 2005 working on his 4th album, Rain’s World, and being cast as Park Il Sun in Chan Wook Park’s ah-mazing off-beat and dark romantic drama, I’m A Cyborg But That’s Okay [released in December 2006].
The Inkigayo stage welcomed him back on October 15, 2006, the day after Rain’s World was released, and he proceeded to tear it up retro-style with the light and truly infectious With U, a veritable throw back to the glorious sounds of the 70’s. Seriously, the Bee Gees would totally dig on this tune in a big way!
What? What?!
I love Rain for a myriad of reasons. But I absolutely adore and appreciate his love for the retro in just about everything, especially in music. He is SO well-versed musically and is not afraid to throw it all back to a time when he wasn’t even yet born. The man loves music and never fails to take a retro style, freshen it up, and sprinkle it with Rain!
And, the man can take casual wear and make it look so sexy – right?! Give him a down parka, tank top, a baseball cap, and some sweats and this is what you get. Oh yeah, the outfit would not be complete without his best accessory yet: his smile.
The interplay with the baseball cap to the beat of the song makes its return much to the delight of the happy squealing fans. We can all collectively agree that Rain’s cute and playful antics are what continue to endear him to us over and over again.
Even though there were three singles released from Rain’s World (With U, I’m Coming and In My Bed – try not to read that all in one full swoop or you may need a cold shower), it was With U he brought to the Inkigayo stage. Happy and upbeat, Rain’s bold lyrics of hope and optimism continue to assure me that no matter how many times he has been knocked down in love or left broken-hearted, in the end he somehow still believes in love and how it will ultimately conquer all. He makes me believe that anyway. ♥
He’s so romantic, isn’t he?
