•May 9, 2010 • 3 CommentsAt least that’s how it appears that » cute-cute-CUTE Lee Gi-Kwang (or AJ) of B2ST (BEAST) reacted when he was so into his phone conversation that he passed by Rain hyung without so much as a “by your leave.” Someone sitting in an upper row clued him in really quickly. Haha. (They really take their hyungs seriously.) We’re not sure where this is; a Rain fan on a sister site did say she thought it was at the most recent Music Bank rehearsal.

Because cutie AJ’s voice is so like melted butter, I couldn’t resist playing my favorite BEAST song from last year, “Yet,” where he leads and my boy Jun-Hyung raps. Incidentally, the song was banned in South Korea because of Jun-Hyung’s apparent use of an expletive (the charge was denied, of course, heheh), so the Boys only performed it in other countries. As you know, BEAST and MBLAQ debuted around roughly the same time and have been going head to head ever since.

That’s right, my dears. This should be Rain’s final stint on Inkigayo; the Love Song performances are coming swiftly to a close, competition-wise. (What? I have to put the NY and ATL ball caps away, and we’ll have to wean ourselves off of those Golden Abs, except during rewinds? Nooo…!) Next week is when Rain and Crew put emo-Glam Rock away and go completely hip-urban as Hip Song hits the comeback trail. Are you ready? All of you overseas Clouds in the voting zones—make us proud and support our Ji-Hoon!
Note: The Ebony Bling, on their white fabric background, are now on the black flack jacket (the exact opposite of the most recent Music Bank). Interchangeable Bling, indeed! Mix them, match them, rearrange them and make a few jackets seem like a closet full. What a great idea and so, so smart (if I am right). And what a performance. Did you hear the extra emotion in Rain’s voice? Did he intentionally end the song with “please come back” instead of “I love you” to change things up, or was he simply deep in the moment and letting things come as they would? Asian source EDaily has reported that Rain will attend the Green Ribbon Hope Walking Campaign in 2010, as he did last year. The event will be held at Children’s Grand Park in Seoul on the morning of the 9th, and will include stories of hope to comfort the families of missing kids. Rain will make a charitable contribution on the behalf of many other sports stars and entertainers who are also participating in the Stars Charity Auction.
This is the third year in a row that this event has been held, in May, with EDaily and the Childrens Foundation (of Korea) as organizers. It calls attention to the plight of missing and exploited children.

As it is around 7:30 am on the morning of the 9th in Korea right about now, this event should be kicking off within the next several hours. (It is being called the 3rd Green Ribbon Hope Walking Campaign, and EDaily’s article says the event has been going for three years, so I am assuming that when everyone was calling it the 3rd walking campaign back in 2009, that was an error.)

Asia broadcast 5/8. The making of Love Song, behind the scenes. Rain is “iced up” and freezing. Freezing. Freezing! High above the streets of Seoul. Funny… he looked so toasty warm in the video (that’s the miracle of illusion for you). Roll camera, call action… and suddenly he’s in another zone where he only feels his character’s emotions… oh, he is good. Stop camera, and cut—and he’s desperately walking towards a parka, any parka. 🙂
Notice, Clouds: They did the whole scene without removing the iced flack jacket first, and after looking at the footage, Rain seemed to not like something. As we have seen documented in several entertainment news spots, and in the final product, as cold as it was, he commenced to stripping down and getting to the raw heart of the matter at a certain point, so perhaps that was the change they made. Star Story: Come on baby, Light my fire
It is not because he owns a lot of things, it is not because he realizes many dreams. The real reason he touches people deeply is that he never forgets his original mind, he never stops working hard. Almost like a drama, his “fighting spirit” is forever burning brightly, shining and dazzling.
BASIC STARTING POINT
This is my 8th debut year so I have been wondering all the time if I should show a new era of myself. I really hope that this special album will be the best gift for my fans. This was how the “ballad” song and this album came about.
It’s rather different from my past style, but just as in the past, it showed my own feelings. Take the title track for example. It is a soft ballad, so I wanted to emphasize the sad feeling even in the appearance. I tried to put on false eye lashes. I think this will be an excellent idea for a concert. Some people said this image reminds people of the past James Morrison, but I had not intended to use any specific person to strengthen my idea. I just followed my own thinking to create an image which suits my song and my album.
The reason for putting on false eye lashes is I want to show some outstanding feeling. It’s a really sad feeling. If you look at it carefully, you may notice from the gorgeous accessories I’m wearing that I try not to rely on the accessories. I want to focus back on myself. This is also the reason of naming the album “Back to the Basic”. I want to return to my first heart.
I want to fully demonstrate the “masculine” feel in this album – the kind of man who possesses the tough feel, the gentle feel, and also the sexy feel. Many men will give a tough feel when they take off their shirts, but my intentions were slightly different. I want to show my heart completely in front of you. I want to show my first heart – the true heart that’s deep inside me.
You just mentioned the armour vest is a complete contrast to the ballad style, which seems to create an image of not letting people see the hurt inside. It actually reveals better the sad, true heart right? Yes, you are right! The song is a very traditional ballad, but the costume gives a totally different feeling. In contrast to the sad, sorrowful ballad, the outfit created a flamboyant, tough feeling. There is almost the desire to use the clothes to reverse the sad feeling, because sometimes a man’s heart is even weaker than a woman’s.
LOVE
I used classical movie dialogues when writing this song. It occurred in my mind scenes of classical love movies, when the actor stood in front of the actress house, reminiscing his lover who has left him. Of course some of the lyrics also incorporated a few of my own experiences.
When people asked me how I felt when occasionally I seemed indifferent to woman, my reply was, “There isn’t any meaning in it. It’s just that I was heart broken by the fact that we could not be together again. A person who was once by my side, giving me warm smiles. The sadness and the feeling that I could no longer see the happy face – such wounds became the story of my song. Almost all the songs I wrote were based on my own practical experience. Of course I could write a lot of songs just thinking about the hardship I went through as a trainee. However this time because I wanted to try a soft ballad genre so I chose a love story again.
Q: It’s said that you have a lot of romantic dating ideas?
Many people say that but actually it’s not true, haha. Contrary to special dates, I want more a simple, ordinary love. Holding girl friend’s hands for a walk, watching a movie together, enjoying good food together while traveling, resting together, gazing at each other. This is because in reality these simple dates are more than difficult to fulfill, compared to any other pleasantly surprised activities.
One day I saw Ms Han Ye Sul on the “Golden Fishery” TV program. She’s very pretty. I still remember while I was watching the program, I was thinking if there is a chance, I would want to work with her.
NG parts of the MV [outtakes]: Ms Ye Sul lying in bed, and I sang beside her. Looks like there were many NGs before it was completed.
Hahahaha, how did you know? Sounds as if you were there in person! That’s right, it’s true. I had to sing on the bed, but the bed was wobbling all the time. Ms Ye Sul had to be sound asleep, but she couldn’t stop laughing because of the wobbling bed. Her laughs were infectious. I tried to hold but just couldn’t control myself and laughed.
About my being shortlisted on Time 100? This is unbelievable. This is my great honour. Being one of the 100 most influential people of the world to me is both amazing and exciting. If I have the opportunity, I also want to attend Stephen Colbert Show again, haha. [That would be AWESOME! Heheheh. — Stephe ^@@^]
Stephen Colbert helped me to gain recognition in the U.S. market. I am most grateful to him. We had a happy time recording our program last time, haha. If I have the opportunity to be at his show again, I personally want to develop a close friendship with him. I also want to attend the variety shows overseas. To prepare for that day, I am studying English hard. Currently I am also preparing for my 6th album which will be released at the end of the year.
Before that, probably in September or October, my domestic drama will be aired. As for movie, it seems that I don’t have time for it this year. But it’s difficult to say. Who knows, good works always knock on the door instantly.
You ask me if I will continue to guard my “first heart”?
I think people who have always been watching me by my side know this answer better than I do. Of course, even if I keep saying that is my “first heart”, there will still be a lot of people who don’t believe it. The only thing I can do is not to declare that I am guarding my first heart, but to reduce the gap in their minds as far as possible. I’m just working hard constantly to reduce their suspicion.
Occasionally people also asked why I still go to those variety programs.
When people said “ Your position is such that you don’t have to go to those variety shows, isn’t it?” My reply was: “No, such position does not exist”. There is no difference between the rookie me and the current me. I am always grateful to those people who have not forgotten me, and I want to get closer to my fans. If the variety shows could be the catalyst, then I could go to those shows regardless where I am.
The fact that I could bring strength to others not only amazes me, it also gives me a sense of great responsibility. As such, I will do my utmost to live earnestly, because I do not want myself, and all the people who know me, to get into pain. This is the reason why I want to guard my “first heart”.

I have to say, Clouds, that this particular Bling leads to me believe that it only seems like these are all individual breakaway flack jackets, but I’ll bet the panels on these things are interchangeable (rip them off of one jacket and put them on another). Otherwise, why would this gold NY Bling be on a white jacket yet on a black background? (Because it really belongs on the original black jacket, right?) Rain: I think girls are the same. Starting from their 20s, I think girls are prettiest, most beautiful when they get into their 30s.
SH: Then why do you say that you like younger girls?

Rain: Hm, recently I participated in a talk show together with Ku Ha La. Wow, she’s really pretty and young. Youth is a weapon! I want to grow up quickly when I was small, but now I hope that time will stop here.
SH: You are right. “Freshness” itself is the greatest asset.
Rain: Right, right! Fresh, Fresh.
SH: But to me you are still very young. Even when you sing and dance on the stage you are still very young.
Rain: I’m still young now, right!

Rain: For me, I only want others to call me elder brother. Please don’t call me Uncle. I know someone who will be in a bad mood all day if he hears someone calling him uncle.
SH: Do you mean Kim Tai Woo?
Rain: No, I mean some Mr. Park, Mr. [JYP]!
SH: Oh, so it is JYP! He has been promoted to Uncle a few years ago, hasn’t he?
Rain: It’s really funny that all the idol groups that he has trained are almost 2 cycles younger, at least 20 years younger. When I saw this I thought: “I must not let such things happen to me. I must find ways to stop my age.”
SH: But this is impossible. Comparing to when you first debuted, you were about 20 then right, you look even more handsome now!
Rain: Thanks.
SH: I’m telling the truth. I’m not saying this because we are on show. Really pleased to see such straight forward Rain! Many people will remember what Rain looks like while performing on stage, or when he’s in the movie, but what I want to stress is “Musician” Rain. So proud you have produced such outstanding tune.
Rain: Indeed I spent a long time composing the music and the lyrics. I want to show a slightly restrained kind of sexiness which has never been shown before. I want to demonstrate my own style and my own dance. To do so I did a lot of research. Luckily it seems that you all like it, so thank you very much. Oh, there is Hip Song too. I think many of you will like this one better.
SH: When you are on stage, which dance style you feel is more difficult to demonstrate?
Rain: Regarding this, it seems only until now do I understand the real meaning of dance, although I have been dancing for 15-16 years. My so called dance had been matching my body, and not the music itself. I think what you feel is most important in terms of dancing.
SH: Previously, when we watch Rain dance, the impression is strong, full of power. Now it seems there is some tenderness blended in.
Rain: My best is Hip Hop dance, but usually pop dance cannot give people the feeling of sincerity. I haven’t watched ballet dance before. But when I was in Europe, I watched ballet performance and I found it very beautiful. It allows people to share the most sincere feelings. I learned something there, and feel I should do that too. Sincerity is most important.
SH: We seem to be able to share the true feeling in “Love Song”. I believe all of us could feel Rain’s best sexy dance on the stage. Let’s listen to “Love Song” now.
SH: I’ve heard that you mentioned in one program that “A man must not be the first to declare ending a relationship. He should wait for the lady to say it”.
Rain: This is what I think. The last thing that a man can do for a woman is: when both parties have the desire to separate, he should lead the lady to say it out first, rather then saying it himself . I think this is his last courtesy.
SH: Here is a question from the audience. Rain is training MBLAQ now, but people do not feel any age difference between you and them. What is the reason?
Rain: (laugh) This is because MBLAQ aren’t that young (sorry)
SH: In the beginning, what is your criteria in choosing them?
Rain: “Hardworking” is the criteria. They were selected based on that.
SH: Do you think your juniors are handsome?
Rain: Looking at them closely they all are quite handsome. Actually, as you know, I had been thinking all the time then, what is my weapon in winning? I wasn’t that great looking when I debuted, in fact many people were quite disappointed by that!
SH: But when I watched the “Bad Guy” MV, I felt that Rain looked very handsome.
Rain: Please don’t lie, but ok I know it now, please continue.
SH: I even told JYP then you are very handsome. And said you look like Jung Yu Sang (Korean actor). But now you are definitely more handsome than Jung YS.

SH: Did you ever have the idea of giving up on MBLAQ?
Rain: I have never had this idea from beginning till now.

Rain: Really have to practice for a while.
SH: Have you done voice imitation in other shows as well?
Rain: No, not in other shows. Actually I don’t do much voice imitation.
SH: Really? Then today it’s a gift for us!
Rain: Right, it’s a gift, since I don’t have other things I could show to you.
SH: What kind of coffee do you like? Latte? Cappucino? American coffee?
Rain: If I have to be on diet then I will drink American coffee. Otherwise I will have Latte, but only with milk, no sugar.
SH: Is there really such a big difference in calorie?
Rain: Of course, there’s a huge difference!
SH: Bi Obba, you often go overseas right? Of all the countries you’ve been to, which is the one that you want to visit again?
Rain: I want to go to Italy again. The scenery is beautiful and it gives me a great feeling.
SH: Seems the place is suitable for you. Actually Koreans like Italian cuisine.
Rain: In terms of dining, I am totally Korean. I love Korean cuisine most. Of course Italian cuisine is good, but it’s just won’t work for me to have it continuously.
SH: My impression is that since you debut, you have never had any ear rings. Did you ever pierced your ear?
Rain: I did it when I was at senior high, but because it hurts the body so I have never had an ear ring.
SH: So it sealed afterwards?
Rain: Actually, my father went for fortune telling before. They said that my signs were not good. So my father told me when I was at senior high that I must not harm my body, and I should not pierce my ear. Only this way I could grow up well.
SH: You wrote your own music and songs since your 5th album. What kind of style do you want to create?
Rain: The music I want to do? I want to try to combine jazz with popular music, but this is not the time yet. At the moment what I could show to you all will still mainly be dance music. [Ah ha! So… this might be what we’re in for in Rain’s 30s, Clouds… jazz combos. Sweet! ^@@^]

It isn’t the last time we’ll see Love Song, not by a long shot, but as far as the comeback stage goes, Rain will begin to showcase his second single next week. Hip Song will “reign” beginning May 13th. Rain has been quoted as saying he has altered some of the Hip Song (“hip hop” song) choreography to include unusual gymnast and boxing movements, and even the waving of the South Korean flag (the Taegeukgi)… a strange thing to try to imagine, but hey, he’s creative enough to pull all of that off, isn’t he? — Stephe ^@@^

If you’re in another part of the world where Mother’s Day has already passed by, or has yet to come, we embrace you as well. We should all be celebrated for the miracles we have put on this Earth. And the mothers who are no longer with us should never be forgotten. ^@@^ :-}

If a mom can’t handle flowers (people can be allergic to their natural perfumes or their pollen, or simply not like them much)… present her with a vase of rushes and natural grasses instead. Those are just as beautiful.
