Rain’s devoted hyungs, who we absolutely adore, all costumed up and virtual hero’d out. You know where these images are going, right? Over on our Dancers’ page!
A BIG thank you to suave SooBong for kindly sharing these RAIN The Best Show Daegu EXCO backstage pictures of himself, glorious Gori, handsome Hongshi… and looks like one of The Cuties (either KyuSang or YongDeock) in that long wig. I’ve gotten those two mixed up before when they had sunglasses covering half of their faces, so sorry about that! It’s not my fault that they’re so darned かわいい! (That’s “cute” in Japanese. Kawaii!)
Aww, Hoon looks so cute and ageless here, as always. These kinds of tweets are THE BEST. (No pun intended! But that sure worked out well, didn’t it? ^^) 😀

Aw. Isn’t seeing BbaekGa onstage again after so long simply delightful, Clouds? As shamelessly promotional and as cutesy as “Good Good Time” is, the song still makes me grin. And how about that “Rain” part, eh? LOL.
Please enjoy Koyote’s delightful comeback stage from the August 27th episode of Music Core, courtesy of CrazyCarrotNew210 @ YouTube.

Koyote (코요태) – Good Good Time English Translation provided by pop!gasa (tweaks by Terri :-})
Deux mille onze.
Bonjour tous le monde.
Ha ha ha! Nous sommes Koyote!
We’re Koyote! We’re Koyote! We’re Koyote!
* Together with the hot sun,
You and I. We follow that star,
And I dance, and we dance,
Oh oh eh oh.
What are you staring at? Just relax and play.
If you can’t play, then relax your face and just go home.
If you only care about appearance, then shut up.
If you don’t know who I am then, shut up.
All those who remain, lift up your shot glass and
Shot shot shot shot shot!
I take pictures and I rap.
I’m BbaekGa, I’m BbaekGa.
I came back to life after death.
I’m a singer of Koyote too, but they’re just taking pictures of me.
I want to turn on the music and dance.
I want to go crazy.
* repeat
** Music is my first love.
Please don’t stop, my music start
Wherever you go, wherever you go,
Wherever you go, go, go, go…
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time! Have a good time!
Excuse me miss.
Listen to this seductive beat.
From dusk to dawn, my shaking dance,
I’ll pass on the personality. If I like you, then kiss.
I’m a celebrity too, but they just refer to me as Rain’s friend.
I want to turn on the music and dance.
I want to go crazy.
* repeat
** repeat
To the left, to the right, to the left, left, left, right.
To the left, to the right, to the left, left, left, right.
To the left, to the right, to the left, left, left, right.
To the left to the right. Everybody stand up!
** repeat
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time, good, good, good time.
Have a good time! Have a good time!
So as I understand it, our hilarious JiHoon tweeted as if he were putting up a nude image of some chick named Kim Hana and couldn’t believe it existed. It turned out to be something nude, all right—a veggie all by its lonesome, instead of a girl. (In addition to being a name, 김 (kim) can also mean “seaweed.” And 하나 (hana) also means “one.” Thanks for helping folks out with that, Sally.) ROFLMAO! Alas. No one got it or even waited to see if they would get it before the choruses of Huh? Wae? began. LOL!
Very shortly thereafter, JiHoon tweeted that he was just playing, said something about it being an edible veggie, and then he asked if anyone was excited about it being the day of his Best Daegu concert (thanks for that translation information, rain bird).
OMG, JiHoon, I am still laugh-snorting over the things you do to amuse yourself and how they always work. Looking at the clock… you should be about ready to hit the stage in Daegu! Have a tremendous show, all right? Fighting! 😀 ^@@^
Well, Rain fans, I got as far as 빕스 No. 1 스태이크 —VIPS No. 1 Steak (bibseu number one seutaeikeu)—before I had to switch over to my Windows IME Korean keyboard and type the rest into a translator. (Translators can be horrible, but thank God for them until something better comes along.) I already recognize endorser 빕스 (VIPS). “스태이크” appears to be one of the many words that are originally English but have been adopted by Korea. Say it fast, and you’ll see what I mean. Romanized: Seutaeikeu. Sounds like: Suh-tay-ee-kuh. Steak.
빕스 No. 1 스태이크 클래스에 초대합니다! (bibseu number one seutaeikeu keullaeseue chodaehabnida!)
Stephe’s loose translation of Rain’s sign: VIPS No. 1 Steak invites you to class!
Apparently VIPS is having an event where you too can learn how to cook the very best steak in South Korea, as they do. Or something like that. Perhaps you can earn, or win, the classes? (If I’m off here, please feel free to help, native speakers out there. Thanks! 😀 )
One of these days, I’ll be fast enough and proficient enough to whip out whole ad translations for you. That’ll take a while, though, with the Lost In Translation syndrome that happens with Korean-to-English (and vice versa) conversion. (A few direct translations: Visp No. Are invited to a seutaeyikeu class! and here’s No. 1 of this week I invite you to the class! See what I mean? It’s not like you can look at Korean sentences and memorize them and that’s it—oh, you can try, but let’s see how far you really get with that. You have to take phrases out of Korean context and rearrange them into American context in order to sound like you’re making any sense. Goodness me!)
For now, I’ll just do my best, tread carefully, and take it a little at a time with this beautiful language.

It was roughly a year ago this very month when rumors began flying fast and furious about Rain (a.k.a. mega-triple threat Jung JiHoon) being wooed for an updated revival of popular 1964 film Red Scarf (or Red Muffler). Remember? And now here we are, with filming for that very movie, 비상 [飛上]: 태양가까이 (bisang: taeyang-gakkai/Flight: Close To The Sun) all wrapped up and the new footage in post-production as we speak.
August 2010: “Red Muffler 2011” (working title) is rumor.
August 2011: “Red Muffler 2011” is reality, and South Korea is going to have its very own “maverick Top Gun.”
As we understand it, blockbuster 비상 [飛上]/Flight is due on the tarmac in Korean theaters in either late 2011 or early 2012. Of course, here in The States, we may have to wait until it’s released on DVD, but seeing talented Rain bring ace fighter pilot and rebel “TaeHoon” to life on the ground and in his suped-up F15 Eagle, especially with all of Rain’s preparation and training by the ROK Air Force, will be well worth the wait.
Singer-actor Rain has finished filming his action movie set for release in the latter half of this year.
On his Twitter account on Friday, Rain wrote “We’re finally done filming the movie. I’m done with another project. Please look forward to it,” with a photograph of himself and fellow actor Oh Dal-soo in uniforms.
The movie, titled “Take Off: Closer to the Sun” is a remake of the 1964 Korean movie “Red Muffler” and will also star actress Shin Se-gyeong.
The movie tells the story of life, love and comradeship of fighter pilots amid the risky situation on the Korean Peninsula and Rain will play the role of a fighter pilot while Shin is a mechanic.
Also considered an Asian pop sensation, Rain is also set to tour Korea for over a month starting mid-August for which he released a song just last week.
He is set to enter the military sometime this year to fulfill the two-year service required of all Korean men but a date has yet to be set.
I must say, suave SooBong was in rare form. LOL! 하하하
Another great production has finished… Hooray! Congrats, JiHoon, for finishing 비상 [飛上]: 태양가까이 (Flight: Close To The Sun) filming at the end of August as expected. Feels good, huh? No more living in cramped cockpits! *applause* 😀

…says that RAIN and “Busan Woman” are holding fast at #4 out of 20. The song started off at No. 1 on many charts, and looks like it will be at the top of them for some time to come. (Source: 10Asia)

What a cool day for KPop! And RAIN and his “Busan Woman” are #9 out of 100 on Billboard. Halleluia! 😀 Congrats to SISTAR, LeeSSang, 2NE1, T-ara, and all the artists on the chart for this period ending 9/3/2011!
Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 Launches; Sistar Is No. 1 on New Korea Chart
llboard goes K-Pop today (Aug. 25) with the launch of a new chart, the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100. The tally, which ranks Korea’s top-selling songs, kicks off with girl group Sistar‘s “So Cool” grabbing the No. 1 slot and beating out second-place Leesang and 2NE1, who land not only at No. 3 (with “Ugly”) but also No. 14 (“Hate You”) and No. 21 (“I Am The Best”) on the chart dated Sept. 3.
The Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart, launched in conjunction with Billboard Korea, is based on digital sales via leading websites as well as downloads from mobile service sites using an industry-standard formula and the most credible music data sources within Korea. The K-Pop Hot 100 debuts simultaneously here on Billboard.com, in the international chart section of Billboard.biz, in Billboard magazine, and also on Billboard Korea’s website, billboard.co.kr.
“The launch of the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart is a milestone event, as it will provide the Korean music market with what we believe is Korea’s most accurate and relevant song ranking,” says Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard’s Director of Charts. “We’re excited to be expanding Billboard’s globally recognized Hot 100 chart franchise into this country, and look forward to enhancing the K-Pop Hot 100 chart in the near future with additional data as well as creating new charts that showcase the breadth of Korean music.”
Meanwhile the artists dominating the top of the inaugural Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 reflect the fact that hit-making girl groups are a top attraction in Korean music. Sistar and 2NE1 are just two examples. T-ara, made up of seven young ladies, has secured the No. 4 position as well as grabbing No. 73 (visit Billboard.biz soon for positions No. 51-100). Miss A, whose influential management company also manages the ever popular Wonder Girls, rounds out the top five with their single “Good-bye Baby.” Here’s a closer look at five of the female groups ruling the K-Pop 100 this week….
Several people asked us if we thought having a fan fiction category was a good idea. As you can see, we thought it was!
Use your imagination, let it go wild…but not TOO wild. Please remember that this is NOT an ADULT forum. Try to keep your writings PG-13, or as close to it as possible. (Fade to black is always recommended.) But do have FUN. That’s what fan fiction is all about, after all—fashioning memorable adventures for other fans to indulge in, and getting your own enjoyment out of it in the bargain.
We can’t wait to read the first story. Can you? (Looks like there’s one over there already! Very cool.)
» You can get directly to this new category by clicking HERE.
Very cool, the way the live band made the songs sound fresh and new. And I was in stitches over that very insistent fan in the background. She was telling Rain what was what, wasn’t she? LOL! Cute.
Wahhhh… the way Rain began singing “Nan” at the very end of the video had my eyes rolled back in my head. That’s what you call power. (My goodness, those pants were t-i-g-h-t.) The water came down, the shirt came off… and Gigi managed to hold her fan cam very still for as long as it took. The woman is superhuman. ALL HAIL GIGI_ROU.
I cannot stop snapping my fingers when Rain sings “Busan Woman.” I guess all the Daegu women better get ready because their turn is coming up next! 😀
Oh my heavens—he sang “I’m Searching/Looking” (Chajayo, 찾아요) from album number three! Has he ever sang Chajayo in concert before? Does anyone know? *flippin’ excited!*
Enjoy, everyone!

As you all know, the Man had a career before “Rain” (his English name coming into play).
He even had a career before debuting as the one and only 비.
No matter how far back you go before his 2002 solo singing debut, whether it was dancing for JYP or performing as a member of teen KPop group FanClub, JiHoon was using the star power inside of his tall, talented body.
Inquiring minds across the Rainiverse want your opinion: Which of these four well-known videos is the best JiHoon 비4 Debut performance?
Let’s make it a good competition—you can vote as many times as you wish for your favorite(s) until next Tuesday evening, August 30. If your favorite isn’t here, please share it with everyone so that we can all dish in the comments. Cool? Cool. 🙂
Let’s get to buzzing about Bi before debut! (When we all tweet him the winning performance, I wonder if he’ll be tickled or surprised at the result? Hm!)

{*Edited to Add 9/5/2011by Stephe: Well. I think the resounding silence says it all. And sometimes silence is the BEST policy in the celebrity world. Just because you speak doesn’t mean people won’t take what you said and run with it in a whole other direction that makes things even worse. An unfortunate truth when it comes to humans.
The fact that neither Rain nor Saadiq themselves (nor the supposed “accuser”) have added anything to this matter, and the fact that Rain mentioned in his Busan Section TV interview that “Busan Woman” could be classified as soul music, says to me that things have possibly been taken care of OR possibly were taken care of between these two parties from the start. A newspaper with a notorious reputation for living just to stick it to Rain was who stirred the pot to begin with, and that right there gives the “controversy” even LESS credibility.
We were right to let this crap die.
Up and until Saadiq makes any kind of statement (IF he does so at all), I’m not blaming Rain for a darned thing.
If Saadiq never says a word, then Rain has been treated terribly yet AGAIN. ^@@^}

ORIGINAL POST
Yes, sir. It looks like that pretty little Busan woman has been mighty busy these days.
Or has she?
According to Korean news outlets all over the Internet, Rain is being accused by someone somewhere (by whom, we aren’t quite sure, but we’re waiting with bated breath to find out) of composing his new song, “Busan Woman,” by borrowing heavily from Raphael Saadiq’s song, “Detroit Girl.”
For those of you who don’t know, Raphael Saadiq is an extremely talented American singer, songwriter and producer who has been working in the music industry here in The States since 1984, when he played bass for Sheila E’s band (look it up). He is a Grammy award winning producer and has worked with artists like Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Prince, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, and…well, you get our drift.
According to one of Rain’s associates, the accusations are ridiculous and unfounded. However, the only differences the representative could conjure up between the two songs were the tempo and the fact that the two songs were of the same genre.
There is some validity to the argument that music of the same genre follows similar patterns. In fact, all music contains patterns, and algorithms have been used to compose music for centuries. Still, completely ignored in Rain’s defense were the obvious similarities between the two songs, such as the introductory hook, bridges and chord progressions.
You think we’re kidding? Okay, listen for yourself. Here’s Rain’s Busan Woman.
All we have to say after listening to these two songs together is this: Rain definitely has some ‘splaining to do.
Are the similarities enough for Busan Woman to be considered plagiarism? We don’t have a clue. We are not experts in musical plagiarism, nor do we pretend to be. So, it will be people much wiser than us who will determine whether or not Rain and/or his co-composer plagiarized “Detroit Girl.” If the law determines that they are guilty of plagiarism, then Rain and his co-composer will suffer the consequences—as well they should.
Rain is so talented and so very resourceful that we cannot believe that he would ever purposefully resort to plagiarizing another musician’s work. Still, with the plagiarism virus running rampant in the K-Pop industry for years now, with songwriters copying other artists’ work left and right (I.e., Hyori’s H-Logic), it boggles our mind that Rain would leave his ass so uncovered that he would end up collaborating with yet again another potential copycat songwriter? What the hell?
We would think, with all the charges that have been leveled at K-Pop songwriters over the past several years, that artists would be more skittish about where their songwriters are getting material from and go over that material with a fine tooth comb. Why doesn’t this seem to be more of a concern? And who is this particular songwriter who thought he/she could possibly get one over on someone at the level of Raphael Saadiq? Seriously?
Does it sound like we’re pissed off? We are. This is the last thing Rain needs at this juncture—a smudge across his career and a bad taste left in his fans’ mouths just as he departs for the military for two years. We’re furious. BUT: Everyone makes mistakes. That’s what being human is all about, and as long as we learn from those mistakes and don’t repeat them, then the experience wasn’t for naught.
No, we’re not kicking Rain to the curb for a lapse in judgment (how silly would that be?). But we do want him to take some serious learning away from this lesson about watching his people, covering his butt, and not letting this happen again. He has lived his career cleanly and with good character, which is why we’ll continue to stand with him. Character goes a long way, in our book.
When there is a proper statement from RAIN (and not only a representative) or something other than speculation and rehash by the Media concerning this matter, we’ll be sure to bring that to you.
In the meantime, let’s continue to show him lots of love and support, because he deserves it.
I’ve been hankering for some Raizo for a while now, and these two videos have fed me well this evening. I hope they feed your yearning for Raizo too, if you have one, so here we go! Thank you to these YouTubers for incredible work, and for making their videos available for Rain fans to share. 😀

Hilarious comedian, actor, and physician Ken Jeong was in Seoul, South Korea recently to promote his latest comedy-fest, The Hangover 2, where he reprises his popular character “Mr. Chow” from the first film.
When Ken wasn’t meeting and greeting fans at Hangover 2‘s premiere event, or hobnobbing with artists who came to support him like Jay Park, or doing his signature mugging for the cameras, he was sitting down and giving the media a taste of who he is, like in this quick clip from KBS 2’s I Love Movies entertainment news segment.
It’s still fresh in our minds how we rooted for “Dr. Ken” and for Rain as 2010 MTV Movie Award finalists last year, and how we celebrated when both men succeeded in getting their Golden Popcorn. (FYI: Jeong won his 2010 MTV Movie Award for his role in the original The Hangover.) Much like Rain, Ken is known as a man of many faces and uses that talent to the utmost, to the delight of his fans in the U.S. and in Asia.
We wish him the best with his new project and a safe journey back home to The States.
I’ve read about Blue Salt and saw the startling but amazing transformation that Shin SeKyung (Rain’s “Red Muffler” cast mate) went through for her character, and so I think the movie has a great chance to succeed. I hope it does well!

Nicely done, Joonie dear. Nicely done! We’re very proud of you. 😀
And if you all haven’t seen fan cams from the Boys’ concert this past weekend, dear fans, you should! The Boys were amazing. Their A+s were in full force and were almost driven out of their ever-loving minds. Good show!
MBLAQ‘s Lee Joon will be on the cover of Men’s Health magazine for the September 2011 edition.
The magazine also showcases a three page photo-spread with this young pop star. For his photoshoot, Joon revisited his Ninja Assassin days and posed in various ninja-like poses, thus creating a very sharp and powerful image.
On August 20TH, MBLAQ held their first solo concert, MEN in MBLAQ, in Seoul at the Jamsil Indoor stadium. The concert was announced in July and tickets went on sale on the 21st of July, selling out all 13,409 seats of the stadium in less than an hour. The concert was a huge success, prompting the possibility of more dates to be added soon. Thanks to some wonderful fans that were in attendance at their concert we have obtained some fan cam video footage from the event.
[2011 RAIN Korea Tour Schedule/ all concert times from InterPark] August 13, 14 (Sat, Sun) – Busan BEXCO • 7 PM Sat/5 PM Sun Sat 27 August – Daegu EXCO Priest • 7 PM Sat, September 3 – Jeju Convention Center • 7 PM Sat, September 17 – Gwangju (Location TBA) • 7 PM Sun September 18 – Daejeon (KOTRA Trade Exhibition Center) • 7 PM September 24 and 25 (Saturday, Sunday) – Seoul Olympic Park Stadium • 5 PM both days
