As some of you recall, in my previous post tracing R2B: Return to Base’s global path back this past March, Splendid Film Benelux (servicing Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg) was showing their release date for the movie on DVD and Blu-ray as 4/25/2013.

Well, after a visit to their site this weekend, I see that not only did they honor that release date, they also used their social media to properly promote R2B to all of their customers. (With the exception of Twitter—Splendid Film Germany has a Twitter, but Benelux does not.) They even had an R2B DVD giveaway.

Now that’s what we’re talking about. Absolutely splendid, Splendid! We’re sorry that we’re just now noticing, or we would have promoted the heck out of you.

Thank you, Splendid Film Benelux, for being there for Rain, his Dutch fans, and all action movie lovers.

This is what we would call, if we were gamers, a Flawless Victory. Rain makes a comeback in October 2008 with “Rainism”, and wins on the music charts. Didn’t matter how long he’d been gone. He was back.

The way his hair was “performing” and catching the light, surely it had its own manager and representation as well. 😛 And to think, Rain didn’t really like the color! Dude, we don’t know what you’re talking about, your burgundy hair was gorgeous. 🙂

Do enjoy this, Rain returning to his college alma mater, KyungHee University, as a participant in the school’s May 2009 Open Concert. (Dankook University was where he went to graduate school.)

It is a compilation of clips from his performance, filmed offstage and edited for television by Spot TV (스팟TV), and there isn’t much luck when it comes to hearing the songs because the crowd and student body were having one long, collective heart attack from the time he took the stage. 😀 They simply lost their ever-loving minds, and who could blame them.

I LOVED WATCHING THIS.

Rain Might Sign To Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

jayz

OSEN reported an hour ago that Jay-Z’s record label, Roc Nation, has presented Rain with an offer to sign with the company, which he is currently looking over.

OSEN reports that they are currently figuring out the logistics of the Korean as well as worldwide copyrights, and once that’s agreed upon, it’ll all be signed, sealed, and delivered.

Though his star wattage shines way brighter than just South Korea, Rain has yet to release an album in the States. Signing with Roc Nation — the company that currently has Lil Kim, Kylie Minogue, & Rita Ora on its roster — could mean a surge in Rain’s popularity in the US market. As we mentioned, nothing has been signed yet, but we’ll update as soon as we have confirmation!

[articles] Back to the basic once more: Rain with Cube Entertainment for the start of his next decade.

•May 29, 2013 • 25 Comments

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

{*ETA: I don’t suppose anyone has taken a second to think it could be that Rain will actually sign the contract when he gets out of the military. Nothing translated from Mr. Hong says Rain has signed anything yet, just decided to go with Cube. Which may be why there seems to be no worry about the military’s reaction… ? ^@@^}

5282013-CubeENT

Well! Do my eyes deceive me, or has Mr. Hong’s statement on Cube been amended a bit? Now this we can work with. Cool.

Jung Bae, a native Korean-speaker and Terri’s colleague at HelloKPop.com, read this today towards the end of Mr. Hong’s statement: “Despite many offers, Rain wishes to return to his mindset at the very beginning and join with me with hearts hotter than ever. I wish to thank Rain, for leaving other offers behind to respond to me with friendship. I am now preparing for life as the partner of Rain, this friend who was so passionate every day, looking 10 years ahead even in his trainee days.” Which gives even more credence to SOOMPI’s article below, which quotes: “2013’s spring, Rain and Hong Seung Sung are standing here before a new start. Even though Rain had a lot of offers, he decided to join us [our agency] because he wants to go back to his roots and he is more passionate than ever.”

I wish to thank Rain for leaving other offers behind… Rain had a lot of offers, he decided to join us… That’s what we’re looking for. We appreciated the shining future stuff, but when it comes to blasting out news about Rain’s career, we need plain speak.

We have a pretty good feeling about this. Both parties know each other well and are bringing some good stuff to the table. Rain is nowhere near finished with Korea, Asia, the U.S., or the rest of the world when it comes to music, dramas, and films. He still has many more “firsts” to set, and we think he has chosen a good “traveling companion” for that. (Although we wish like heck Mr. Hong had waited to spill the beans, it makes absolutely no sense to think that he did so without Rain’s nod…)

(What the heck is it with some of these “news sites” dropping headers like, “Rain announces he has signed with Cube” when RAIN didn’t announce anything. Cube did. Doofuses.)

(And like I said, MBLAQ will be just fine and stand well on their own now, but when they call up senior brother, Rain will be there for them. Rain’s big brothers have been there for him his whole career, and they’re still there. So he will do the same for his little brothers. That’s just how he rolls, companies be damned.)

SOOMPI News 5/27/2013 — written by halves in unison

Rain Joins Beast and 4Minute, Signs With Cube Entertainment

Rain, who is currently serving in the military, has joined Cube Entertainment and will be labelmates with Beast,4MinuteG.NA among others. He has a special tie with the agency’s founder and CEO Hong Seung Sung, who was the president of JYP Entertainment during Rain’s early years in the entertainment industry. Industry insiders view Rain’s decision to join Cube Entertainment as a big sign of loyalty.

On May 28, CEO Hong Seung Sung wrote a long message on the company’s official website updating fans and the public about Rain’s addition to the company. “2013’s spring, Rain and Hong Seung Sung are standing here before a new start. Even though Rain had a lot of offers, he decided to join us [our agency] because he wants to go back to his roots and he is more passionate than ever.”

The CEO continued, “I remember May 2002, where we got to see world star Rain’s debut stage and I can’t hide the excitement just thinking about that spring. Afterwards, many beautiful springs have come to pass.”

He went on, “He’s a singer, actor and producer and have set a lot of records as ‘the first.’ You’ll be able to witness the beginning of Rain’s second wave now, who doesn’t know limits and have shown his potential by becoming a world star entertainer.”

In closing, Hong Seung Sung wrote, “With that thought, I want to thank Rain for his loyalty despite receiving many offers from other places. Also, during his trainee years, he constantly aimed for ten years ahead, which resulted in today’s passionate Rain. I’m preparing every single day like a partner and friend. I promise that I will return your never ending love and support for Rain and make sure the company leaves a beautiful legacy. I will wholeheartedly and sincerely do my best as his partner. I will not avoid risky paths, but will be thankful that we can do this together.”

Meanwhile, Rain will be discharged from active duty on July 10.

World star Rain signs with Cube Entertainment

On May 28, Cube Entertainment announced that the company has entered into an exclusive contract with Korean star Jung Ji-Hoon, better known around the world as Rain.  CEO Hong Seung-Sung‘s glowing words about Rain in their official press release indicated that he is excited not only about finally being given the opportunity to work with Rain again as an artist and producer, but also about what this contract could potentially mean for Cube Entertainment.  He goes on to promise Rain and his loyal fans a bright future.

He said, “…in order to repay Rain who gave his non-stop love and support, we promise to bring him a beautiful legacy with every step we take. Also, in the future, I, in all sincerity, hope to be your companion for a long time. I’m always thankful for you who walks with me–even on all of the steep steps.”

It is well known that CEO Hong Seung-Sung is the former president of JYP Entertainment, but many global fans didn’t realize until yesterday that Rain and Hong Seung-Sung’s bond began long before Rain debuted, when Rain was cast by Hong Seung-Sung as a trainee at JYPE.   He spoke in the announcement about his introduction to Rain way back when.

“About 11 years ago, I met a teenager with a gaze that was filled with fire. He was more passionate than anyone else. He, who had worked diligently without knowing the harshness and darkness of the outside world, roared at the world like a tiger. That tiger has now turned 30 years old and is still holding the throne, despite the fierce wildlife.”

Cube Entertainment’s activities with Rain will begin after he is released from his mandatory military service. Rain’s release date is scheduled for July 10, 2013.

We’re sure you’ve all seen the articles concerning Rain signing with Cube Entertainment as an artist and possibly a producer. (He has been a free agent for a good while with RAINY Entertainment as his admin, after his contract with JYPE ended in October 2011 and him separating from J.Tune Camp before that, when JYPE merged with J.Tune Enterprises.)

We have seen the statement (in Korean) by Mr. Hong on the Cube Entertainment website, and we are taking it with a grain of salt for now, because there is nothing official on Rain’s website, official fan site, or from RAINY Entertainment. Rain and Mr. Hong have a long relationship, as he was there to help and support Rain as a trainee and during his debut in 2002, and it is obvious from Mr. Hong’s statement that he regards Rain highly professionally and personally. Time will tell when it comes to a signed contract for representation and if that is what Mr. Hong is indeed referring to when he’s talking about “walking hand in hand on a new starting line.”

We’re not saying that it isn’t true. We’re just saying that the facts aren’t completely clear because of the language barrier. (For instance, Rain and Mr. Hong can’t embark together in the spring of 2013 because Rain won’t be discharged until the summer.) And we certainly hope that the media hasn’t jumped the gun on this and possibly gotten the military riled up with this story, seeing as it has to do with a civilian career-based activity and Rain is still a soldier.

Terri’s comment on our Facebook sums it up nicely: ‘I just wish they had come out and said, “We signed a contract” with each other. Rather than just talking about some kind of “shining future.” Or is that how all Korean press releases are??? A simple statement would have been real nice.’ Very true, chingu. If that is what he meant.

And by the way, Rain will always be a big brother and mentor to his MBLAQies. He will always look after them and support them as their origin began with him, no matter what. Blood is thicker than ink. They’ve continued to be close ever since he left J.Tune, so what’s the big deal now?

1. STAR (별/Byul) feat. Rain ~ How Much I Love You. Incidentally, I featured this song as Blast from the Past #106 back in November of 2011. I just love it. It was STAR who introduced me to actor Rain with the music video for her Full House single, “I Think I”. Big congratulations to STAR on her marriage to singer/actor Haha late last year. 2. Rain ~ Because of You. *flatlined* (courtesy of rainthetreasure)

3. Rain feat. Bada (Sea) ~ Just Like You. *flatlined again* (courtesy of oluperigelin2)

4. Rain ~ Slowly. Rain in Japanese. *hooking myself up to permanent defibrillator* (courtesy of grace bi)

5. Rain ~ Touch Ya. A git down song if there ever was one. (courtesy of mar9133)

6. Rain ~ Hip Song. Concerning this clip, I still don’t know how he makes a plain shirt and slacks look like that. (courtesy of UnknownCarrot110)

7. BigBang ~ Monster. OMG, what a song! T.O.P. and Daesung are my biases. (courtesy of cheese0819)

8. BigBang ~ Bad Boy.

9. Hyungdon & DaeJune ~ The Gloomy Song. This thing is just groovy. Even Rain was playing it all over Speeding Instinct when it came out. 🙂 (courtesy of LOEN Entertainment)

10. SHINee ~ The Shinee World. They’re living in SMTown!  Jonghyun and Tae are my biases. And between you, me, and the lamp post, Minho makes Terri say unmentionable things. Don’t tell her I told you. 🙂 (courtesy of Cho HyunRae)

11. SHINee ~ Lucifer.

12. SHINee ~ Sherlock.

13. SHINee ~ Love Like Oxygen.

14. SHINee ~ Replay (Noona’s So Pretty). From then to now, SHINee = Precision. Precise movements. Group perfection. I rest my case.

15. SHINee ~ Ring Ding Dong.

16. Super Junior ~ Mr. Simple. (Credit: SMTown)

17. DBSK ~ Mirotic. The real “under my skin” version is what I’m listening to. But this performance is so off the charts, I had to share it here. The huskiness in Xia Junsu’s voice is like, INCREDIBLE. Rain, Jonghyun, and Minho enjoyed the hell out of it, and they should have. (courtesy of diegoyoshua805)

18. TVXQ ~ Honey Funny Bunny. I’ve been extremely biased towards HoMin (even though, like I mentioned, I love JYJ Xiah’s voice) since witnessing SMTown at Madison Square Garden, but it’s A-okay because Big Daddy Rain knows who I come home to every night. 🙂 (courtesy of M5Rhythm)

19. TVXQ ~ Keep Your Head Down.

20. TVXQ ~ Maximum.

21. TVXQ feat BoA and The TRAX ~ Tri-Angle. (courtesy of SM Entertainment)

22. Park HyoShin ~ Superstar. I closed out my CD with a bang and The Voice Straight From Heaven. Last but certainly not least! Amen! (courtesy of Vi Han)

23. Park HyoShin (with Lee DongGun and Jung JaeIl) ~ Blue Pine. A beautiful tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Cheonan Naval Tragedy of 2010. (courtesy of the ROK Ministry of Defense/ROKMND2020)

24. Park HyoShin feat. Mithra Jin (with Kim JiHoon and Yoo SeungChan) ~ A Great Man. Just. So. Awesome. 🙂 (courtesy of the ROK Ministry of Defense/ROKMND2020)
