This is another one of those Did I Blast it before or did I not? posts. But hey, whatevs. 🙂 Do enjoy this morning entertainment report from 2003, during Rain’s How To Avoid the Sun era, when he performed as a top 10 singer on an SBS music awards show, chewed the fat over a meal with his hyungs (I LOVE when SangQ wore dreads back in the day, yussssss!), and visited his mom’s grave during his first steps to superstardom. ♥

Here is an even closer look at the embroidery gift that Aberu received from her good friend Aoi last year, plus a brief look at Aoi’s creative process in crafting this beautiful Rain needlepoint. According to Cloud USA YouTube moderator Naoko (harudoful), Aoi used over 200 colors of thread, and it took her over a year to complete. Talk about putting love in every stitch for your friend, wow!^^ 🙂

Please see below, as posted by Overseas Fan Coordinator huhuhuhu @The Cloud (in South Korea) yesterday, 8/12. Details are sketchy right now (we don’t blame the organizer for keeping his/her mouth shut at all, GOOD call), so please stay tuned.

The actual announcement is on The Cloud HERE, on the English Talk Board, as well as in the private Cloud-filled Room. (You must be logged into Rain’s official Cloud Community Fan Site as either a registered user or an 8th Cloud member in order to see and properly reply to huhuhuhu. Thanks.)

Rain will attend a commercial event in Shanghai on 3 September

It’s confirmed now that Rain will attend a commercial event in Shanghai on 3 September.  This is not a concert We are not sure how long he will stay for the event.  For security reason the organizer has kept the venue, the time and the event details confidential.

The organizer has allotted 50 seats each to two fan clubs in China: Baidu Rain Bar and Cloud China.  Both fan clubs are accepting applications for the seats.

I have contacted the company’s Hong Kong office and inquired if it is possible to give some seats to overseas fans other than Chinese fans who may also want to go to Shanghai to support Rain on 3 September.  While they will consider my request they would also like to know how many overseas fans want to go, so that they could check with the PR agency.

If any oversea fans would like to be in Shanghai on 3 September to support Rain and doesn’t have a seat yet, please reply below so that I could get a head count and I will try my best to get seats for those who want to attend.

As you may recall, Mnet released their full list of 100 legendary artists and the year of their debuts back this past January, and Rain was on it, along with the likes of BoA, PSY, Seo Taiji, H.O.T., Lee Hyori, Jo Yongpil, and DJ DOC. Now he is also being hailed as one of their Top 20 live performers.

From what I can tell, the top 20 were handpicked based on the authenticity of their voices during performances, how well they overwhelm(ed) their audiences (keep their attention, audience participation, etc.), and how well they present(ed) everything together as a package on stage (choreography, singing, accompanying music, etc.).

In my humble opinion, Mnet did well in choosing their cream of the crop. Right on!

Lee YeRang, of the award-winning duo Kayarang, shared a picture of herself and Rain on her Cyworld page today that was taken in Washington D.C. back on May 8. YeRang and her twin sister Lee SaRang are celebrated as the first twin artists to  master the gayageum (the best known traditional Korean stringed instrument), and Kayarang is considered by many the most popular Korean traditional pop duo today. So it made perfect sense that they were invited to represent their country at the Arirang World Peace Festival in the States along with Rain.

Korean news source Money Week also included Lee YeRang’s picture in an article about her today. The one thing I did understand is that Money Week is pretty pleased and thinks that this is a 다정샷 (da-jeong-syat), or sweet shot, of Jung JiHoon. 🙂

When I first saw THIS CRAP (sorry, YOU asked for that, LOL) yesterday, I just turned my head the other way and kept it moving throughout my busy day. (Why would soldiers have to re-enlist because the ARMY didn’t do its OWN paperwork? Huh?) There had been a bit of a lull in the latest Rain witch hunt attempts, and so I knew that it was about time for another turd nugget to come sliding down the hopper from the South Korean media.

(*sigh* Yep. When it gets a little too quiet, just put your hand on the toilet handle and get ready to flush. LMAO)

What is weird as hell to me is how nutty-zens can think someone should have to re-enlist for three episodes of miscellaneous misconduct next to 640 days of full-fledged service. Not only does that show that they haven’t the sense to actually read up on what they’re talking about, it also shows that many of them are simply sheep going along with what they consider the “popular” opinion (particularly the ones who aren’t even South Korean). It’s sooo “cool” to be angry at Rain. Wheels turning, hamsters dead. Go figure. *shrug* ^@@^

Kukmin News 8/7/2013 — [English translation by 화니]

It Does Not Make Sense To make Rain Join The Army Again

Military officials expressed on the 7th, “Entertainment soldiers including Rain were recently embroiled in controversy, but Rain has made it through his military service normally. It does not make sense to make him join the army again.”

And, “You can’t urge him to join the army again just because he acted in bad faith. In terms of ethics, he may deserve to be criticized, but it was found that he had never done anything wrong or illegal during the investigation. He was discharged from the army with the consequence that.”

Continuing, “Rain joined the army and normally finished his military service. He was disciplined for violating military rules during a date with actress ‘Kim Tae-Hee’ early this year, and thereafter it was found that there was nothing to connect him with an incident where some entertainment soldiers broke the rules.”

Rain served as an assistant instructor in the 5th Division after his enlistment in October, 2011. After that, he was transferred to the Defense Media Agency in March, 2012. Since then, he had served as an entertainment solider there.
But, when his romance with actress ‘Kim Tae-Hee’ was released to the media last January, he was criticized for his frequent outing and sleeping out, drawing the crabs from the netizens.

Crucially, he was discharged from the army on the 10th of last month, being embroiled in more controversy when some entertainment soldiers’ slackened discipline shown on a current affairs TV show last June, arose controversy.

Allkpop 8/7/2013 — by starsung

Ministry of Defense states Rain cannot be forced to re-enlist

Although Rain has already been discharged, political circles as well as netizens have been calling for his re-enlistment along with other celebrity soldiers who were said to have become celebrity soldiers without all the necessary documents.

In response, the Ministry of Defense has stepped up to point out that the matter at hand is not something that should be thought of with re-enlistment in mind as the solution. They reason that although it is true that there were some documents that were not included when bringing Rain in as a celebrity recruit, this was due to different interpretations on the regulations about what documents were necessary for the celebrity soldier qualification process. For example, the regulation is said to call for a confirmation note and a letter of recommendation regarding the celeb’s activities – however some interpret this to mean that just the confirmation note alone is enough while others might think that it means a letter of recommendation is also required in addition to the confirmation note.

They also reasoned that this is just a discrepancy in the matter of Rain transferring into the celebrity recruit unit, not a problem that exists with his actual enlistment into the military. Since they say there was no problem with Rain’s actual enlistment, he cannot be called to re-enlist.

A rep from the Ministry of Defense commented, “Rain already finished his military service and was discharged as normal, so for him to ‘re-enlist’ means that we must consider all the duties he carried out during his service as invalid.”

Another rep stated, “Rain’s re-enlistment is impossible. Rain, as well as other celebrity soldiers who have been discharged, have all lawfully completed their service… Unless a violation has occurred within military service law [regarding enlistment], we cannot force re-enlistment.”

Remember back in May, when artists from all over the world were being invited to chose a subject and create a caricature that might be selected for the Global Caricature Exhibition for 2013, and South Korean mega-entertainer Rain (a.k.a. Jung JiHoon) was included as one of the 100 local and international individuals loved by Koreans that artists could choose from?

Well, the 2013 Global Caricature Exhibition in Seoul did indeed take place from June 27 to July 29 at the Sejong Museum of Art, and Rain’s caricature, representative of his lead role as “Raizo” in the movie Ninja Assassin (Warner Bros., 2009), was one of several hundred in the exhibition. Out of 2,500-plus works submitted by professional artists in South Korea and outside of the country, a total of 213 works were selected and displayed for the month.

The caricature of Rain was created by Marcus Toshiro Sakoda, a popular illustrator and caricature artist out of San Francisco, California. Sakoda also had three other pieces of artwork chosen, among them one of South Korean actress Lee Young Ae, and one of Chinese action star/producer/director/martial arts legend Jackie Chan. Sakoda was also one of four world-renowned caricaturists who gave lectures at the Digital Caricature Seminar during the days of the event.

Local residents had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their own caricatures drawn by the artists participating in the exhibit, during weekends. And there were prize-winning contests for amateur caricature artists as well.

The purpose of this month-long event was to upgrade the urban image of Seoul and bring more tourists and locals together in a massive sharing of culture and art. From the looks of things, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism certainly did meet its goal. Bravo.

~Cloud Cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Okay, did I say slight?  Well, I totally lied.  As you can see from the photo above, it Rained quite heavily on Cloud USA a few days ago.

A huge THANK YOU to Cloud USA’er Michele DeMarco for sending us a humongous box filled with Rain goodies that she picked up while she was in Seoul in July.   Thanks to Michele, our contest/giveaway stash has been revitalized and is raring to go again.  Michele, we are ever so humbled by your generosity.  We look forward to sharing these items with our USA Clouds, who are so rarely able to obtain Rain stuff on this side of the planet.

You should have seen me.  What Michele said when she got back from Seoul was that she was going to “send us a few things” she had picked up there.  So, when the clerk at the mail center put a huge box and a poster tube on the postal scale at the counter, my eyes widened.  What in the world?, I thought.  I was so startled that the guy said, “Don’t worry.  It’s not as heavy as it looks.”  LOL.

Poor fella.  It was obvious from the look on his face that he was absolutely dying to know what was inside, especially in light of Michele’s unique labeling.  Unfortunately, I was in such a hurry to get home and dig into the box that I smiled and rushed out without a word, leaving him standing there with his mouth open. 😀

My delight upon opening the box at home was palpable.  Even my family members stopped eating dinner long enough to ooh and ah over the Rain stuff.  (That one was really funny.)  What amazes me the most (besides the quantity of items we received) is the quality of the items.  The manufacturing of every single one of these treasures will delight you all.  Truly.  They are so PRETTY in real life.  Like Rain, the photos below just do not do them justice.

I tell you, for a moment there, my den’s sofa was every Cloud’s DREAM.  LOL.  Now we just have to figure out what we’re going to do with these things exactly.  Anyone out there got any ideas? 😉

Terri :-}

P.S.   One hint.  If all goes well, we will be making a Cloudburst trip to New Orleans in the September/October timeframe (exact timeline TBD).  And just so you know, SOME of these goodies will be tagging along.   😀

Many thanks to Cloud USA’s YouTube Moderator Naoko for sharing some photos of her visit today to the Cube Cafe in Osaka, Japan.  The cafe is located in the Grand Janus building at:  GRANDJANUS Building 1F, 2-4-30, Higashishinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka, 542-0083.  The fare is Italian cuisine, Fusion, and sweet treats, and from their website info, it looks like a meal will set you back 2,500 yen (or about $25).  For more information, feel free to visit their English website: http://r.gnavi.co.jp/kach004/lang/en/.

Gorgeous pics.  If you’re ever down that way, it looks like just the place to feed both your hungry tummy and your K-Pop obsession.  Wow!  Can’t wait to see Rain goods there!
