Remember back in May, when artists from all over the world were being invited to chose a subject and create a caricature that might be selected for the Global Caricature Exhibition for 2013, and South Korean mega-entertainer Rain (a.k.a. Jung JiHoon) was included as one of the 100 local and international individuals loved by Koreans that artists could choose from?
Well, the 2013 Global Caricature Exhibition in Seoul did indeed take place from June 27 to July 29 at the Sejong Museum of Art, and Rain’s caricature, representative of his lead role as “Raizo” in the movie Ninja Assassin (Warner Bros., 2009), was one of several hundred in the exhibition. Out of 2,500-plus works submitted by professional artists in South Korea and outside of the country, a total of 213 works were selected and displayed for the month.
The caricature of Rain was created by Marcus Toshiro Sakoda, a popular illustrator and caricature artist out of San Francisco, California. Sakoda also had three other pieces of artwork chosen, among them one of South Korean actress Lee Young Ae, and one of Chinese action star/producer/director/martial arts legend Jackie Chan. Sakoda was also one of four world-renowned caricaturists who gave lectures at the Digital Caricature Seminar during the days of the event.
Local residents had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their own caricatures drawn by the artists participating in the exhibit, during weekends. And there were prize-winning contests for amateur caricature artists as well.
The purpose of this month-long event was to upgrade the urban image of Seoul and bring more tourists and locals together in a massive sharing of culture and art. From the looks of things, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism certainly did meet its goal. Bravo.

Really liked this post. As I stated on FB, once artists make a caricature of you, then it’s saying to the world that you have “arrived.” Your mark on pop culture has become indelible. Love it! *SMILES*………………………………
