Incidentally, the news people at Ent.163.com and at Sina had a good ol’ time poking fun (no pun intended) at the two pictures below ↓ and joking about the man “grabbing his crotch/privates” in public when obviously it’s nothing more than an optical illusion. As if Rain would do such a thing with a horde of cameras all on him. Sheesh. Must have been a slow news day. Y’all know how that goes. ^@@^

As visuals go, there is no reason I can think of that you wouldn’t enjoy this interview, even though it’s in Korean and subbed in Chinese. Rain is in the middle of his Speed Racer/Ninja Assassin era and chatting away about both movies. Pretty simple.

So, do have a look at this Hamban TV entertainment news segment that took place in April 2008. 🙂 ^@@^

[article] Korean stars grace Hollywood movies.

•April 7, 2014 • 1 Comment

KantamePopJapanRainInterview6_CUSA

The Korea Times 4/7/2014 — by Park SiSoo

Korean stars grace Hollywood movies

A record number of actors will play major roles in US blockbusters

[Rain excerpts]

Are Korean actors increasingly wanted in Hollywood, or is it a sheer coincidence that a record number of them will have the opportunity to feature in Hollywood films this year?

So far five Korean actors — Lee Byung-hun, Choi Min-sik, Jung Ji-hoon, Bae Doo-na, Soo Hyun — are set to play in a Hollywood movie or are awaiting the release of their film.

…..

K-pop singer and actor Jung Ji-hoon, better known as Rain, recently completed filming of his second Hollywood movie “The Prince.” He made his Hollywood debut in 2008 in “Speed Racer.” In the new film, he plays alongside Bruce Willis, John Cusack and Jason Patric. “The Prince” is expected to be released at the end of the year.

…..

Jung Ji-hoon is widely known to have learned English from actor Lee Bum-soo’s wife Lee Yoon-jin, a professional Korean-English interpreter.

“I started teaching him (Rain) with his U.S. debut only 100 days away,” interpreter Lee said. “Back then he did not have enough time to learn English step by step. So my teaching was focused on how to deliver ‘key messages’ in English during interviews there. Actually there is no problem catching a speaker’s key message with only a couple of words or sentences.”

» You can read this extensive article about Lee ByungHun, Choi MinSik, Rain, Bae DooNa, and Soo Hyun in its entirety and leave your comments on The Korea Times online HERE.

[speculation] From Stephe’s desk: Oh noes! Say it ain’t so! Will Rain’s character get jilted? *sniffle*

•April 6, 2014 • 2 Comments

c0047605_036335

It’s impossible to guess a subplot of a movie correctly with just a few pictures, so I’m only speculating out loud right now. Truly, I’ve no idea.

BUT, at the same time…

What’s the old saying? A picture says a thousand words? And these pictures, on their own, do not bode well for Rain’s tortured artist character “Xu Chengxun” in new Chinese movie-in-production 露水红颜 (Roots of Dew): Difficult Love. Holy moly!

I was tooling around on Twitter last night and happened upon a link to this April 6 article on the China Daily online news site. The subject title? “网曝刘亦菲《红颜露水》婚纱照 新郎不是Rain.”

Which, translated by Google, says roughly, “Web exposed, Liu Yifei Roots Dew wedding groom is not Rain.”

What-what-what???

Was that why Rain’s character looked forlorn and lonely with a single rose in his hand in the image he Instagram’d back on March 17? Was he sad outside because…

tt1(0)

…this was happening inside? Check out the flowers in Rain’s pic and the one below, from the China Daily news. (Another cute tie-in: Rain carrying what looks like a single red rose like the one on the official movie poster.)

(Actress Liu Yifei on the Difficult Love set. Images source: China Daily)

W020140406010566554676

W020140406010566621216

Of course, netizens in China were stunned and jumped all on the China Daily pictures like ducks on a June bug, and said, “Hey! That looks like [male co-star] Wang Xuebing in profile! Is the groom actually not Rain???”

There are many possibilities here. Our poor “Xu Chengxun” could indeed get jilted (DIFFICULT LOVE is one of the names of the movie, after all). OR he could race into the church to stop the ceremony and save his woman from an arranged marriage made in hell, after which they run off and elope and live happily ever after. OR the wedding could be a bad dream and one of them wake up from it in a cold sweat. OR the bride could be on her knees having a K-Drama moment, telling this dude to get lost and to please send Rain in on his way out. OR maybe Rain couldn’t be on location when this scene was blocked and the dude at the altar is standing in. LOL

OR our tortured hero could lose the girl early on (due to either outside forces or his own stupidity) and work like a mofo to get her back in the end. OR if they fall in love slowly, as the synopsis says, Liu’s character could be forced into this marriage by her fallen noble family before the lovers realize they can’t live without each other.

Don’t forget—Rain could’ve jilted her and left her crying like a baby and being consoled at the altar (my money’s on this one). Et cetera and so forth.

Oh, how the plot thickens! And as we all know, Rain enjoys himself the most when the plot thickens, hehe. 🙂

Word is this movie will be premiering in China (language: Mandarin) this November 11, so, unfortunately we’ve got a heck of a long time to wait for more pictures to surface sit, stew, and speculate.

Ain’t love grand?

•April 3, 2014 • 7 Comments

20140402_222448

To my delight, Ninja Assassin (2009, Warner Bros.) aired on SpikeTV last night.

Like I was saying to my Cloud sisters on Twitter and Facebook at the time, I saw this movie in the theater and have watched it a gazillion times on Blu-ray (which really is the best way), yet I always get silly-excited whenever it comes on actual television. I suppose that’s because it says a lot to me when a local or cable or satellite channel chooses to air it. My dad came to my bedroom door and peeked in, grinning, to make sure I was watching it. “Did you know Rain’s on?” he said. “He’s kicking ass like it ought to be kicked!”LOL (That’s Daddy Cloud for ya.)

As an ex-Shorin Ryu karate student (for four years, in my mid-30s) and martial arts/Black Belt Theater/Sho Kosugi aficionado, I enjoy watching it just for what it is and claims to be—an homage to the fun, late great blood-spouting ninja flicks of the 80s and 90s.

The fight scenes go hard. “Raizo” and his enemies put a whipping on folks like they stole something. Rain’s real blood-sweat-and-tears effort to give everything to that role gave Badassery a brand new face.

Thanks for watching it “with” me last night, y’all. 🙂
