Rain’s Love Tour 2010 coming to Saitama: the official TV spot.

•June 19, 2010 • Leave a Comment

We first saw this commercial at the end of last week’s RAINY DAY episode, announcing the upcoming show at Saitama Super Arena in mid-July.  With Saitama being a WHOPPER of a venue in comparison to the smaller, intimate ZEPP halls throughout Japan (it is huge, as you know), we imagine Rain has retooled and expanded what he will do on the ZEPP stage to fit this super one.  Or maybe not.  He’s  quite a creative fellow, so we’ll see…

RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 20.

Asia broadcast 6/19 — The tale of the Wobbly Bed continues. 🙂

His eyelashes are so beautiful here, and very effective.  What do you immediately think of when you see a man whose lashes are naturally long?  As a woman and as a writer, I see one of two things depending on his surroundings: either a fierce, primal nature, an uncontrolled passion hidden beneath the surface (a la those first Back To The Basic long-haired Glam photos), OR very strong masculinity that is hiding a soft center, a vulnerability.  I’m strong, I’m tough like steel but the woman I love can still kill me with one blow to my soul (which is why Rain used the false eyelashes on his character to begin with).  Speaking in allusions and metaphors is what he does, and very well.

Yes… losing the jacket during the “Ye-Seul and the mic stand are interchangeable” stuff did work better, didn’t it? Made him look more opened up and less closed off.  Gosh, I would have been lying there on that bed grinning up at him too.  Can I see a show of hands? Ha!

Rain talks about his inspirations for the shoot, the costuming, and Love Song’s R&B rhythm.  “I’ve never worn this much silver on my body before…”  This is my favorite RAINY DAY episode from Season 2 so far.  Do you have a favorite?

Enjoy, Clouds.  — Stephe ^@@^

[*ETA: The RAIN/S. Korea vs. Coldplay/England match-up is still LIVE, everybody.

For how long is unsure, and thank goodness Rain still has the advantage… 87% of the vote to Coldplay’s 13%, though that is quite a difference from 92% on our previous report.  Careful… let’s not give an inch.

If MTV thinks we’re going to gradually lose interest, they’ve got another thing coming.  Aja!]

England 0 — Algeria 0

Serbia 1 — Germany 0

*sigh*  No, I’m not going to complain.  We’ll take the tie!  It’s better than a loss, and that means Team USA is still technically in the black.  And boy, oh boy… powerhouse Germany has got to be pretty pissed right now.  Wow.

On the Asian front, Japan has a match today (Saturday) against the Netherlands.

Uruguay (Gabe Saporta/Cobra Starship): 71% of the vote

England (Coldplay, Radiohead): 41% of the vote

Last Saturday and Sunday, there were no MTV Cup matches… but I don’t know if that was a one-timer or the norm.  So let’s be on the lookout for two new match-ups on the MTV Newsroom Blog today (Saturday) just in case, until we know for sure.  Let’s keep Team RAIN/S. Apologies for not knowing more about this GTV news report, except for the fact that Rain was in Taipei for a show, and that this was during the Full House Era… but I was more taken by the realization that back in 2004, Rain had no idea that five years later he would be accosted by ninja again, as Raizo. Rain, Na-Young, and Jung-Jin: Will all be fair in love and war?

Dramabeans 6/17/2010 — Rain now has his rival for the upcoming spy-melodrama Runaway, and it’s 32-year-old Lee Jung-Jin (of I Love You Don’t Cry and Bottom of the 9th Inning with 2 Outs).

Also, we finally get more on the story of Runaway, which centers around an “astronomical sum of money that disappeared with the outbreak of the Korean War, which resurfaces sixty years later in 2010.” What follows is “a lively chase” that takes the characters through various Asian cities.

The two characters played by Rain and Lee Na-young, Ji-woo and Jin-yi, are involved in this case but acting independently of each other. (She approaches him to use him….

New on the blog!

•June 17, 2010 • 7 Comments

With the bit of a lull in all the Rain news lately (and thank God for that, back in May Rain just about KILLED us…

…if you don’t believe it, take a look at his schedule over on our fan site HERE, Terri did a great job with that), I’ve just done a 5-month sweep and much needed site maintenance on the WebBlog.  And here, for your viewing pleasure, are the results:

*  NEW:  There are five brand new WebBlog pages… one for FAN ART… an entire IN CONCERT section that adds Rain’s 2010 Lotte Concert, Sketchbook performance, and LEGEND OF RAINISM Tour to our LoR Yoyogi Fan Cam Show… one for Outstanding Fan Videos… and Stephe’s Favorite Things, because some Rain stuff is just special.

*  NEW:  Terri has attacked the Cloud USA fan site with a passion, haha.  Our Home page, Favorite Pics page, and Event Image Gallery have been refreshed, and videos of 2PM and the Wonder Girls’ recent stop here in Atlanta, at the Tabernacle,  on their Wonder Tour are now on our Korean Culture in Atlanta page.

*  REFRESHED:  Oh, let’s see… how about every single page on this blog.  I’m not kidding, Clouds— every single page. Haha.  Clouds on this side of the ocean, yes.  Commercial Spots has simply blown up, what else can I say.  Conversion Tools, MVs & Trailers, the 2010 Discography, and Incredible Fan Love.  It’s Hot In Here is a little hotter.  News & Articles has expanded.  Documents & Interviews now has O’live’s Rain on Trip.  Videos & Gallery, Bi Amazed, and the NINJA ASSASSIN page have been fluffed out.  Rain’s Love Story short film is now on the Watch The Rain Come Down page with his Banjun dramas.  Rain On Life even has a new quote.  Et cetera, et cetera.

*  NEW: Rain’s recent interview on 10 Asia, on the streets of Los Angeles, is over on our Cloud USA Forum, under the His Acting: Asian Dramas and Beyond category.  In fact, due to Super-Poster Katie and the dedicated ladies over there, the Forum is in constant change.  It is never static, never boring, and is quite an entertaining piece of real estate.  And we want to say thanks to them for making it that way!  Ladies, you are fantastic.

*  NEW: Terri’s latest idea over on our Cloud Projects page.  It’s fast, easy, and might make a world of difference.  Have a read, and then go pound Rain—er, #Rain. 😉

Enjoy it all, Clouds.  How is your June going?

Our FAVORITE Ninja Assassin interview.

•June 17, 2010 • Leave a Comment

And why is that?  Well, just look at Rain.  Look at him.  He was the most relaxed and the most chatty in English than we had EVER seen him (and the Korean Beacon understood the reason behind that).  He would just jump into the conversation whenever he felt like it.  So cool.  So natural.  He did a wonderful job here, he and McTeigue.

This is also our favorite because Rain and McTeigue go into detail and clear up the matter of Raizo’s name and nationality.   (We never understood why more people didn’t figure it out to begin with, instead of bitching about a Korean guy playing a Japanese guy—it wasn’t that difficult.  Ozunu-sama is Japanese and gave Raizo his Japanese name.  And where did the ridiculous idea come from that actors can only play characters of the same ethnicity anyway?  Do you realize just how limiting that is, people?  Black Americans can’t play Africans or Cubans?  Whites can’t play Germans or Swedes unless they are German or Swedish?  Asians can’t play other Asians or Asian-mixes or Asian Americans?  Mexicans can’t play Spaniards or whites because they aren’t Spanish or white?  How silly.  The best actor should get the role.  Acting is an illusion, not reality.)

Their rapport here makes us hope that there will be a NINJA ASSASSIN 2 one day, preferably right after Rain gets out of the military because then, his body will already be incredibly cut and he won’t have the hell of scarfing boiled chicken for eight months.   McTeigue:  “He [Rain] likes me more than I like him, actually.”  LOL!

Lee Na-Young is in like Flint.

•June 17, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Dramabeans 6/16/2010 —Lee Na-young has been finalized as Rain’s co-star in the action-spy drama Runaway, which makes it her first drama in six years (since 2004’s Ireland). Having played quirky characters in the past (and a transgender role in her most recent movie, Dad Likes Women), this drama will give her a chance to showcase a completely different image from her previous roles.

Lee stars as Jin-yi, who approaches main character Ji-woo (Rain) under false pretenses. In order to get close to her objective, she becomes entangled with Ji-woo, and afterward the two must lie to each other repeatedly to cover up their real motives. Naturally, he ends up falling for her in this “unique romance.” Jin-yi is a woman who appears innocent on the outside, but possesses a sexy charm and has a “cat-like” quality as she keeps her true intentions hidden.

According to Lee’s reps at KeyEast, she chose the role because “It stands out with its high-quality script and a female lead character who has a fresh appeal that hasn’t been seen before.” ….

» You can read Javabeans’ article, Lee Na-Young Confirmed For Runaway with Rain, in its entirety on the Dramabeans blogsite HERE.

Oh merciful heavens.  Just take in that plot line and the dance of the two characters.  We are so stoked, we can hardly stand it.  This is going to be so GOOD.

And by the way:  In like Flint (a la the James Coburn movie of the same title) is a term used to describe when one is in a very favorable position, or when one has just acquired special position by means of extreme luck.

NOT to be confused with “in like Flynn,” ( a la screen idol Errol Flynn), which has more to do with being really lucky in getting sex, at least in my mind.  Thought I’d clear that up.

Rain Check.

•June 16, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Korean source CN News (6/16 article: Rain trying to ask a delay in the date of his joining the army… ) has reported in their periodical pages that Rain should be leaving for Japan on June 19th for his Rain Love ZEPP Tour (the first show, at the Tokyo venue, is on the 22nd).

After the final ZEPP show is complete (Sapporo, on July 5th), and “ZEPP” becomes Rain’s Summer Love Tour and hits Saitama Super Arena in the Greater Tokyo area (July 17 and 18), as we understand it, Rain will then go to the Fugitive set on location in Japan and continue the drama shoot.

According to J.Tune, there is a time limit, however, on when he has to re-enter Korea.  “Since Rain has a single passport because he is a person who has not yet joined the army, he has to enter Korea by the end of August or early in September at farthest after finishing shooting on location. ”

J.Tune is also quoted as saying, “There is a notice about when he should enter the army on the MMA (the Military Manpower Administration) website. The date is September 28th, but he is trying to ask a delay in the date of his joining the army, because he goes to graduate school and has a full schedule of drama.”

°

Korean source Money Today’s Star News (6/16 article: It is decided actress ‘Lee Na-Young’ will be the heroine of Rain’s next drama ‘Fugitive’)  has printed that the name of Rain’s “Fugitive” character is Ji-Woo, and that the drama’s plot line will visit settings in Asian cities such as Osaka, Macao, Yokohama, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Busan.

°

Super-exciting info, isn’t it, Clouds?  We’re getting a deeper picture of the type of drama project we’ll be watching in the fall, and that picture is intriguing indeed.  And soon enough, we’ll be seeing just what Rain unleashes in the intimacy of those ZEPP venues.  Very cool stuff.

“Meanwhile, in the MTV World Cup of Rock, the battles rage on. In the second game in Group B, the stout English squad (which is currently besting South Africa in a poll that is still open) takes on South Korea. While the English have several giant bands in their pocket, the South Korean team has one superstar who rises above all the others. It’s hard for any one player to change the course of a soccer game, but in MTV’s World Cup of Rock, sometimes one superstar is enough. With that in mind, can all the power and finesse of the English squad defeat the international phenomenon that is Rain?”

Scenes from an earlier RAINY DAY Season 1 episode that I’m not sure is even around any more, where Rain and Crew were shooting stills for the Rainism album art… and the song “More Attracted” (or “Better Girl”) featuring C-Luv, from Rain’s Vol. 5 album Rainism.  The two subjects don’t really have anything to do with each other, but the song is a nice listen and the footage is cute.

Rain: “Where you at?”  C-Luv: “In da club—hurry up!”  Rain: “Hyung, I’m more attracted to your girl than the one in front of me.”  C-Luv: “Me too, man.  I’m more attracted to your girl.”

Cavemen—ha.  And so it goes. 😉  — Stephe ^@@^

[Cloud USA editorial] Please tell us there’s going to be another dance-off! LOL!

[ *ETA:  We have heard the sad cries of our UK Cloud sisters, who cannot watch Colbert Nation videos on Comedy Central due to licensing problems and non-renewed contracts between CN and UK broadcasters from back in 2009, and we have emailed CC in hopes that, after all this time, a resolution can be found.  It certainly doesn’t hurt to ask, right? ^@@^ ]

[Cloud USA] Oh, we are beside ourselves.  Heheheheh!  Our favorite humorist and all-around good guy Stephen Colbert is pretending to call out “arch-nemesis” Rain yet again, for winning another round in their “turf war” (MTV snubbed Colbert but good.  Awwww!).

He had us cracking up so with his “devastated weeping.”  He just can’t get a leg up on our Ji-Hoon.  He just can’t!  Poor man.  ROFL!

Oh PLEASE let this lead to another dance-off.  C’mon Rain, get your butt over here and answer the challenge.  You can take him.  Or… maybe this time Colbert will step into Rain’s territory for an Ozunu Showdown In Seoul, and have to dance or raizo his way back out of Korea alive.  Hilarious.  “RAIN…!  You may have won this round, but I’m still ahead in lexicography!”  ROFL!

Hopefully there is no one still out there who doesn’t realize this is all in good fun. (Yes, people have actually argued over this subject like a bunch of fools.)   Colbert admires Rain as an amazing talent, and they are actually quite chummy.

“He had came on the show and did his dance, like BANG. Knocked it out.  We were all just dazzled.  It was incredible to be in the presence of someone who clearly was so talented and had dedicated themselves so completely to their art.  It really was like, ‘Oh, I’m in the presence of a master.’” — Stephen Colbert, Discovery Channel‘s Hip Korea: Seoul Vibes – Jihoon Jung documentary, broadcast March 2009

Rain’s sense of humor is as crazy as Colbert’s and he got a real kick out of the 2008 Dance-off.  If we know these two as well as we think we do, they will collaborate and have us laughing with this “feud” for a good while yet.

» It can’t be!  RAINNNNNNNN…!  He’s at it again.  “Who’s not honoring me now?”  From the Colbert Nation site.

» The Rain-Colbert May 2008 dance-off.  Rain is all Raizo’d up and getting ready to film NINJA ASSASSIN, and Colbert isn’t bad at all in the dance department.

Enjoy this fan made video that condenses the Rain-Colbert dance-off and also goes WAY back in the day, to when Rain was welcomed to the city of Tokyo by a popular Japanese reporter and one of their mascots.  And had side-splitting exploits on Korean TV.  (courtesy of tamuditakko / music:  Rain’s Fung Fu Fighting remake for the Kung Fu Panda original soundtrack)
