[ETA English translation] What… his eyes are too small?

•August 22, 2010 • 5 Comments

It appears that in this entertainment news segment, Rain has made a list (at #7) because of his too-small eyes.  Is that what’s going on here—they’re complaining, but in good fun?

I must say that at various times in the footage he seems to take it all in stride.  And the end is freakin’ hilarious. LOL!  Enjoy these sexy and cute Ji-Hoon visuals, all.

MBC’s Section TV: Stars 2% insufficient, #7 Rain – small eyes. (credit: vid edited by scorpiola / scorpiolabibi1 @ YT.  Please do NOT re-up to any other youtube channels, thanks!)

(brief translation by rain bird @rain-eu. / [asides by Stephe in brackets])

In a survey of the star, people feel like there is insufficiency of about 2% although he looks perfect and confident, Rain was voted seventh.

Rain has somewhat small eyes for a hollywood actor.

0:09~0:18
Rain’s laughs with his eyes were popular at that time, the original was his idea.

(Pannel ‘Sin Jung-Howan’ is imitating Rain, squinting)

0:19~0:25
Reporter : Most women used to avoid dating with men who have small eyes, but it has been changing the face of male beauty since Rain’s debut.

0:26~0:33
Q: What do you think are the most attractive things about yourself?

Rain : It is my swollen eyes’ lines, I think. These are like 21st century eyes.

0:34~0:54
Rain : There is no need to use goggles while I’m skiing.

Once I was watching TV on the plane, leaning back in my chair, while most other passengers were sleeping. Then, even if I was opening my eyes, our stewardess seemed to think that I was sleeping, therefore, she suddenly spread a blanket and covered over my head with it.  [LMAO!  ROFL! ^@@^]

0:55
Gagman [comedian] ‘Son Hyun-Soo’ : I heard Rain has never gotten even a piece of grit in his eyes, so I’ll prove it through an experiment.  (As soon as he said, someone sprinkled water to him)  I’ve got water in my eyes!!  [ROFLMAO! ^@@^]

RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 29.

•August 21, 2010 • 4 Comments

Asia broadcast 8/21.  Continuation from last week—we are ZEPPing in Tokyo, and Rain is running his rehearsal like a pro.

Being able to see the opening JumboTron-ics here (heavy rainfall, location graphics, dancers being “born of fire,” etc.) is a real treat, as only fans at the ZEPP concerts have been privy to that.  Looked like those elevator springboards being used in the fire sequence were pretty precarious… but boy, what a great effect.

After hitting the Tokyo streets for a break, it’s on to the Rainism staging.  It’s really cool how only one JumboTron can be like having a hundred different sets.  And then “Yo, Rain is back” with It’s Raining, and with his hair shining under the ZEPP lights like new money.  Enter: the Women behind the Man.  Go, girls!

You can always tell when something is off, or when an idea hits him—he simply gets “that look” where you can practically see the wheels turning in his mind… and after a moment or two of thought, whatever it is will come out of his mouth.  If nothing else, Rain is a man who knows what he wants and goes completely with his instincts.  As he should.  It’s his reputation on the line, after all.

Enjoy, everyone. 😀

Rain is the most influential star in Korea for two years running, according to Sisa Journal.

•August 19, 2010 • 7 Comments

This year, like last, Rain has been chosen as the most influential star in Korea by Sisa Journal.

Rain is number one (19.2%)
Yu Jae-Seok second (16.3)
Kang Ho-Dong third (16.0)
Bae Yong-Joon fourth (10.0)
Kin Je-Dong fifth (8.0)
Girl Generation sixth (7.1)
Lee Hyo-Ri seventh (6.8)
Jang Dong-Gun eighth (6.5)
Park Jin-Young ninth (4.6)
Ahn Sung-Ki tenth (4.3)

The people surveyed :
100 each from the 10 foremost experts on administration, education, the press, law, enterprise, government, financing, entertainment, social organization, and religion.

How many : 1000 in total (men : 845, women : 155)
How : by a telephone survey through the questionnaire.
When : July 22~30, 2010.
By Whom : Media Research

(Thanks to rain bird @Rain-eu. for this information)

Wow.  Je-Dong is a really popular TV personality, and Jae-Seok and Ho-Dong are incredible comedians who are just about everywhere you look, hosting countless shows and public events and celebrity events.  Dong-Gun is one of the coolest actors in Korea.  JYP, Hyo-Ri, and Girls Generation need no introduction.  And yet all of Rain’s efforts and endeavors have him right there on top of the heap—again.

And the vast majority of voters were influential men themselves.  That says a lot about how much Rain is truly respected.

Congratulations, Ji-Hoon…!

KBS 8/10/2010 — Powerful Team Heads Drama “Fugitive: Plan B.”

The director Kwak Jung Hwan and the writer Chun Sung Il, who had set the country on fire in the first half of this year with the drama “The Slave Hunters,” have formed a production team again in the second half. The KBS 2TV drama “The Fugitive: Plan B,” which will begin airing from the end of September, is the drama that they will work on together.

A romantic comedy and action drama, “The Fugitive: Plan B” will tell a story of an astronomical amount of money which had disappeared during the Korean War and resurfaced some sixty years later in 2010, and it will film dynamic and realistic chase scenes in overseas locations in Asian countries such as Seoul, Busan, Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Shanghai, Beijing, Macao, and Hong Kong.

The drama has attracted great interest not only for its production team, but also because of its cast members including Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) and Lee Na Young, and become the most anticipated drama for the second half of 2010. The following are the main cast members of the drama.

# Powerful cast members: Rain, Lee Na Young, Lee Jung Jin, Daniel Henney, Yoon Jin Seo, and Yoon Sohn Ha

– World star Rain will show off his charm when he is involved in a mysterious murder.
– Lee Na Young will make a comeback after a six-year break and show off an extreme makeover.
– Lee Jung Jin will shake off his image of a warm-hearted person and have a showdown of charisma with Rain

Rain (Jung Ji Hoon), who created a sensation by having been cast as the protagonist of the drama, will play the character Ji Woo, who has fluid physical movements and a positive personality. In the drama, he will be challenged by becoming involved in an unfinished case to solve, and he will star alongside actress Lee Na Young.

Actress Lee Na Young will make a comeback with this drama after a six-year break, and will play mysterious character Jin Yi, who will show off a beauty characterized by purity and sexiness at the same time. In the drama, she will approach Ji Woo intentionally to get information about the case and end up taking on the case together with Ji Woo. She will also present a unique romance.

Lee Jung Jin will play the section chief of a foreign affairs investigation in the police station named Do Soo who will chase Ji Woo and Jin Yi while they are engaged in the mystery incident. He will play a character who continuously desires and takes actions to succeed in the social structure. In particular, he is drawing anticipation from viewers as his character will confront Ji Woo in a showdown.

– Daniel Henney will play a shipping magnate named Kai who loves Jin Yi (Lee Na Young) and will have an inevitable confrontation with Rain.
– Yoon Jin Seo will show off her unpredictable charm by playing a troublemaking and whimsical detective surnamed Yoon.
– Yoon Sohn Ha will make a comeback to the small screen after three years away, playing a cold-blooded femme fatale character.

Daniel Henney, who was chosen as a top “hot guy” in a survey conducted in Hollywood and has been attracting female fans worldwide by showing off his gentle yet muscular charm, will play a shipping magnate named Kai who loves Jin Yi (Lee Na Young) and is fated to confront Rain.

Yoon Jin Seo has shown totally different images by appearing in different works. She transformed into a married woman who was pretending to be naïve and having an affair with another man in the movie “A Good Day to Have an Affair,” and an innocent high school student in the movie “Someone Behind You,” and she also played the double role of Wol Hee, whom Iljimae loved for his lifetime, and Dal Hee in the drama “The Return of Iljimae.” In this drama, she will play a detective surnamed Yoon who belongs to a foreign affairs investigation at a police headquarters, and she will chase Rain and Lee Na Young.

Hallyu star Yoon Sohn Ha, who has gained huge popularity in Japan, will cast off her innocent and pure image and transform into a femme fatale character, and will confront Rain and Lee Na Young.

# Three best supporting actors in the drama “The Slave Hunters” – Sung Dong Il, Kong Hyung Jin, and Cho Hee Bong

The best supporting actors who played the characters “Chun Ji Ho,””Yupbongi,” and “Kketbongi” in the drama “The Slave Hunters” and made viewers laugh and cry, will appear in this drama again as cast members. Sung Dong Il will play a Korean-Japanese character who is the most clever private investigator in Japan named “Nakamura Hwang.” Kong Hyung Jin will portray Ji Woo (Rain)’s supporter named “Master Jang,” and Cho Hee Bong will play a cold blooded private detective based in Vietnam and Thailand whose name is “James.” Their appearance in the drama is expected to create a synergistic effect in the drama for their acting ability, making people laugh, and being indispensable characters in the drama by delivering ad libs.

– Acting showdown between Japanese actor Naoto and Sung Dong Il (left) & Original Japanese female idol Takako (right)

# Japanese best actor Naoto Takenaka and Japanese idol group member Uehara Takako will join the drama as cast members.
# Hong Kong’s national actor Eric Tsang will appear in the drama without being paid.

In “Fugitive,” not only star Korean actors, but also star actors from Japan and Hong Kong will appear as cast members.

Japanese actor, director and comedian Naoto Takenaka, who has many fans in Korea with his impressive acting in the movies such as “Shall We Dance” and ”Water Boys,” and in the drama “Nodame Cantabile,” will join as a cast member, and he will play the character “Hiroki,” who governs the Japanese politics and economy during the day and dominates the Yakuza world at night.

In addition, an original Japanese idol group member who has broken a record regarding the youngest age in the Japanese pop music industry, and who has gained huge popularity as a famous beautiful actress in Japan, Uehara Takako, has been cast as a cast member, and she will present a tragic love with Ji Woo in the drama.

Hong Kong’s national actor and film director Eric Tsang will make a guest appearance as a friend of Ji Woo and a business partner of Kai named General Wi. In particular, he has become a hot topic as he delivered his intention to work for free, saying, “I want to appear in the drama even without payment,” after he expressed interest in the fact that the drama will be filmed in different cities in Asian countries.

Those wishing to get a chance to see the best and most famous actors from home and abroad all together at the same time, and the opportunity to see different cities in Asian countries while watching exciting chase scenes, will be satisfied with the unique romantic comedy and action drama “The Fugitive: Plan B,” which is being made by a proven writer, director, and production staff team. The extravagant opening episode will be aired at the end of September on KBS 2TV.

KBS America Stands and Delivers!

•August 19, 2010 • 11 Comments

Hello lovely Clouds,

Who’s on Cloud Nine this week? Let me go ahead and answer that for you, for no reason other than I’m too excited to wait for your answer:  Me! :-}  (and Stephe too, of course.  ^@@^)

You would have thought that after our glorious Rain shopping trip a few weeks ago (which you can read about here:  https://cloudusa.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/cloud-usa-goes-on-the-hunt-for-rain/), my Rain fix would have lasted a little longer, right?  Well, you would have been wrong for the following reasons:

  1. Part of my job here at Cloud USA is to constantly look for Rain stuff suppliers.  (Yeah, a torturous job, and I know you’re feeling my pain, right?  :-})
  2. Rain is addicting.  Not being able to feed on new Rain stuff periodically causes Itchy-For-Rain-Stuff-Syndrome—an incurable disorder that flares up in me every now and again and compels me to go Rain shopping.
  3. Cloud USA members are always asking me where they might find Rain stuff, because they are also victims of Itchy-For-Rain-Stuff-Syndrome.
  4. The Internet, as wonderful as it is, doesn’t always cut it for viewing Rain stuff.

Recently, you might have noticed me or Stephe offhandedly mentioning a website called KBSWorldi.com.  Because we had discovered the website only recently, neither of us was prepared to give it a wholehearted Cloud USA endorsement, especially since we were still a little miffed at KBS over their “traffic regulation violation” nonsense during Rain’s comeback.  So, instead, we chose the wait and see approach, where we frequented the site and over time watched to see what might develop.

Well, all I can say now, Clouds, is the wait is over.

KBSWorldi.com is the website for Korean Broadcasting System’s (KBS’s) KBS America.  Established in 2004, KBS America is based in Los Angeles, California, and attempts to promote cultural ties between South Korea and the U.S. by offering popular English-subtitled KBS dramas and shows to viewers in the United States (through broadcasting, videos/DVDs and VODs).

KBS America airs the most popular programs selected from KBS World, KBS TV1, KBS TV2, and KBS Sky. Broadcasting schedule varies depending on which carriers the audience is subscribed to and where they live. While KBS America delivers its broadcasting signal to the subscribers of regional MSOs in major US cities, it has increased its platforms for broader access through Dish Network. With its video distribution service and newly launched online video service, KBS America will be a lot closer to you than you might think.  ~ http://www.kbs-america.com/about/overview.aspx

Several months ago, I purchased some “viewing points” on KBSWorldi.com, so I could test them out for Cloud USA.  One of the test shows I watched was Rain’s episode of Happy Together (May 2010).  Although the points system can get pricey if you’re not careful, I was pleased with the high quality of the episodes I watched.  The English subtitles were also well done.  I have since watch other shows and have been just as satisfied.

What interested Cloud USA the most, however, was the website’s E-Store, through which KBS offered for purchase all three of Rain’s KBS dramas: Sangdoo Let’s Go to School, Full House AND A Love to Kill!

Of course, we immediately bought Cloud USA a copy of each of the dramas to 1) support Rain’s work and 2) be sure that this almost “too good to be true” deal was the real thing.  We are delighted to report that it was.  Our package was shipped out the same day our order was received—by FedEx Ground no less—and it arrived safe and sound less than 7 days later.

As you can see in the photo above,  Sangdoo! Let’s Go to School was the only drama KBS America still had available in the retail-packaged DVD version. The other two dramas, Full House and A Love to Kill, were only available as “Episode on Request” sets, which means that they came to us in a not-so-attractive orange KBS America box.  All the episodes are there, but if you’re into cutesy retail packaging and marketing extras, then I wouldn’t suggest you buy them straight from KBS America.

On the other hand, if all you are interested in is making sure you get legal, broadcast-quality, Region 1 DVDs to watch on your big-screen HD-TV?  Well then, I say KBS America is the way to go.  As an added plus, the price was also quite reasonable.  We got all three sets for a total of $158.99 USD, with no shipping costs added.

So, kudos to KBS America, from Cloud USA.  We are pleased with your efforts to promote cultural ties between South Korea and the U.S. and we are delighted that you have brought Rain a little closer to his U.S. fans.  We can’t wait until the Fall, when we will be able to watch Rain’s next series, Domanja, and then actually buy its high-quality, English-subtitled DVD’s directly from you.  :-}

Wishing you many Rainy days,

Terri :-}

Back To The Basic: the Asian Special Edition…

•August 18, 2010 • 4 Comments

[Cloud USA] … is to be released August 27, 2010.  (Thanks to Rain Europe for this information.)

B2TB can’t be considered only a Korean album now.  With all the extra versions that have come out (Japanese, Chinese/Taiwanese, full Asian), it is truly continent-wide.  Congratulations, Rain!

This is why all of Rain’s fan sites in the U.S. must continue to build and solidify his fan base here—it is only with solid numbers and evidence of a sizable market that we’ll get our own albums.  It’s not just a matter of Rain doing English songs.  He can do that.  But the Powers That Be must see proof that a large enough populace is demanding those songs and waiting to buy them when they hit, first, before they’ll be willing to take the leap.

The more Rain blogs, forums, and fan sites, the merrier!  There are many fans out there who are still isolated and have no idea that there are English-speaking places where they can share their admiration for Ji-Hoon.  There are people who have yet to even discover him.  Let’s work together to find them and welcome them into this vast Rain Fandom that spreads across the planet.

Individually, we are tiny cries in the wind.  Only with a united voice will we be loud enough to be heard.
