RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 37.

•October 16, 2010 • 9 Comments

Asia broadcast 10/16.

We continue ZEPPing on stage in Tokyo.  We’re right there with the audience, watching the Rain come down.  Oh-em-gee!  This is Da Bomb-bastic. ♥

(I’ve really got to stop throwing all these heart symbols around… wow)

With the help of a Japanese translator, Ji-Hoon charms the audience, holds them in the palm of his hand like so… and their response is heartwarming.  Of course, he throws some Japanese in there himself every now and then, a wonderful gesture that fans across Asia always appreciate.  Watch… he’ll speak and the subtitles just disappear. 😀  For those of you who have the ear for it, you can simply hear the change in his speech.  Very cool.

And then, it’s time for “Escaping The Sun”, ZEPP style.  Oh, that sexy, husky voice.  Even as tired as he was during those days, Rain would still just belt stuff out, pull back a little when necessary, and then let it loose again.  *shaking my head in wonder*

Switching over, it’s time for a soft, moonlit “September 12th” with light sticks and glow wands moving in unison.  And “You Know” from SangDoo, one of the most soothing themes Rain ever wrapped his voice around.  I’ve only seen the video, never watched HIM sing it LIVE in this manner, so right now I’m a bit emo.  How can I not be?  How can this moment not touch me?  OMG.

Oh, okay, Ji-Hoon, now that you have me sufficiently teared up, you hit me with what we’ve saucily dubbed The Silhouette Tease, ey?  LOL!  Well all right, then!  Bring it on! 😀  (You really should be spanked.  You know that, don’t you?)

I can hardly wait for next Saturday.  Enjoy, Rain Clouds!

Happy 1-Year Anniversary, MBLAQ and A+…!

•October 16, 2010 • 7 Comments

One year ago this month, five of the most handsome, hardworking, hunkalicious guys in the business debuted on the K-Pop stage under Rain and the J.Tune banner: MBLAQ.

In that time, they’ve sung and danced and acted their way into many a heart in many countries across the world.

Congratulations on making your mark and making it deep, Boys.  (I tell you, the first time I heard G.O sing—Stevie Wonder’s “Lately”—I about passed out cold. ^@@^)

Rain, congrats on a job well done.  We watched you take SeungHo, G.O, Mir, Joon, and Thunder under your umbrella, and looked on as you taught them, pushed them, protected them, nurtured them, and changed their lives.  You gave back to the very place you yourself came from, and that says a lot about your character.

And hugs and victory signs to A+s everywhere.  It’s been a heck of a year, hasn’t it?  You’ve all done the Boys proud.

Here’s to Year 2!  (And Happy Birthday, SeungHo!)

For MBLAQ fans needing a place to settle and connect with other A+s, there are permanent MBLAQ site links from across the world in our blog sidebar.

And it cracks us up, thinking about how Rain’s expressions surely went from surprise (oh hecks, he’s really gonna tell everybody) to outrage (that’s not how it was!) to sheepish laughter (okay, yeah, I did wanna puke) when he found out about this.  LMAO

KBS Global 10/15/2010 — Kim: “Rain hates to lose”

Entertainer Kim Je-dong, known for his love for hiking, shared an episode about a trip up a mountain with singer and actor Rain.

On the KBS 2TV talk show “Win Win” Tuesday, Kim said they planned the hike in hopes that Rain would receive good energy from nature before embarking on a global concert.

Kim said Rain showed up in too much gear and clothes.  He even wore army boots and Kim thought he would sweat excessively.

Rain was actually worried about whether Kim, his senior, could manage the hike, and Kim just smiled at his concern.

Kim said he’d been there before and he knew the trail to the end so it was easy for him. Rain, meanwhile, showing off his immense strength, walked ahead of him in the early stages.

But he began to struggle from midway. The singer sweated profusely but he remained proud. Kim told him to take off his jacket but he refused.

Kim thought Rain, playing tough, was so amusing so that he later pretended to go slowly and Rain said, “Are you always this slow?”

Kim played the good older brother to the end. He said the next day he received a text message from Rain, “I feel like throwing up.”

The glib entertainer Kim has had strained ties with KBS lately. It was his first appearance on a KBS entertainment show in one year but his talk was as witty as ever.

HanCinema 10/13/2010 — Ko Hyeon-jeong beats Rain’, ‘Big Thing’ became number one Wed-Thurs drama after winning over ‘The Fugitive Plan B’

Ko Hyeon-jeong’s ‘Daemul – Big Thing’ seems like it will continue its solo march by dominating Wed-Thurs drama.

According to AGB Nilson Media Research, ‘Daemul – Big Thing’ which went on air on on October 13th, recorded 26.4% viewer rating. This drama passed 25% viewer rating only after 3 episodes. It is looking forward 30%. 3rd episode showed 4.9% increase over the previous episode.

‘The Fugitive Plan B’ which was projected to be ‘Daemul – Big Thing’s’ good opponent, recorded only 15.1% viewer rating. This is 1.1% decrease [below] last episode. Especially, it is showing a huge gap to ‘Big Thing’, so its future doesn’t look all that bright.

On the other hand, ‘Mischievous Kiss’, which went on air that the same time with ‘Big Thing’ and ‘The Fugitive Plan B’, showed a ‘super low’ 6.0% and became the last among Wed-Thurs dramas.

Rain comes to DramaFever with Runaway: Plan B.

•October 14, 2010 • 1 Comment

DramaFever Blog, 10/14/2010 —

Superstar Rain and well-known film actress Lee Na Young (of cult classic Ireland) return to dramas after five-to-six year hiatuses for the swashbuckling action drama RUNAWAY: PLAN B. From the writer-director pair behind the year’s earlier smash hit Chuno, this high-budget romantic comedy was filmed all across Europe and Asia, with locations including Tokyo, Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong.

The star-studded cast includes Lee Jung-jin of 9 End 2 Outs and Daniel Henney of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and My Lovely Sam Soon. Well-known Japanese singer Uehara Takako and Japanese actor Takenaka Naoto contribute to the drama’s international flair. An almost instant hit, Runaway: Plan B is a high-profile, stylish, unique action romance.

During the outbreak of the Korean War, a vast amount of money disappeared. Sixty years later, it has resurfaced, sparking an international frenzy as fortune hunters, detectives, private operatives, and policemen go on the hunt for it, jockeying with each other to find and secure it. Among those with a stake in it are Jin Yi (Lee Na Young), a mysterious operative, and Ji-woo (Rain), a spy with his own motives. Jin Yi approaches Ji-woo under false pretenses, planning to use him to get closer to the money. As the two tread an international trail in their search for the money, an attraction springs up between them. But can this relationship survive in the face of their constant deception of each other?

Things are further complicated by Do Soo (Lee Jung Jin), a talented investigations officer who pursues Ji-woo, and femme fatale Mi Jin (Yoon Son Ha), who pursues Ji-woo in the romantic sense. Mi Jin, a woman with a haunted past, initially indends to kill Jin Yi, but falls for Ji Woo instead, and the two women become rivals for Ji Woo’s affections. Kieko (Uehara Takako) and Kai (Daniel Henney) are two other individuals who become caught up in these tumultuous events.

Also known as Fugitive and Domangja.

Runaway/Fugitive made it to DramaFever! If your Plan A has fallen thru, here’s a Plan B!

•October 14, 2010 • 8 Comments

[ *ETA 10/15: It has come to our attention that fans in the U.K. are unable to watch dramas on DramaFever.com… and we appreciate the feedback, because without you all out there telling us, we wouldn’t know about things such as this.  (Viewing being confined to the U.S. and Canada on DF hasn’t come up in any of our researching.)

We have multiple inquiries in to DramaFever concerning alternatives or some kind of resolution (sounds like a licensing problem).  Is there anyone outside the U.S. and Canada who can watch programs there?  We’d really like to know.

*Please NOTE: The way DramaFever works is… new programs are offered immediately to paid members, but soon after that, episodes are free.  With Runaway/Fugitive, we were waiting to see if the same rules applied, and seems they do.  Episode 2 is now free as well.  — Stephe ^@@^ ]

WOW.

The first episode appears to be free, and subsequent episodes require premium membership signup (basic premium service is only $4.99, and the packages go up from there… pretty affordable!).

This really is awesome—yet one more way for Rain, Jung-Jin, Henney, and Na-Young fans to watch the show (English-subbed by the WITH S2 team) with no fuss and no muss!  DramaFever and WITH S2, we love you. ♥

And we don’t begrudge you charging a little for Fugitive viewing.  I mean come on, everyone, websites have to pay their bills just like we do, so don’t belly-ache about it.  And just look at the QUALITY of the upload.  Can you imagine how many people they had to go through and hoops they had to jump through to pull this off?  Can you?

KBSWORLDi (online), KBS World (on television), and now DramaFever (online)… Aja English subs!  Aja!

The Lotte Duty Free Fall/Winter Season Best Model event.

•October 13, 2010 • 7 Comments

From perusing the event page, we are surmising that:

1) Lotte DF is having an event where their Asian customers and website members can vote on who they feel has been the Best Model this year.

2) You don’t just choose the star… you choose which image of the star qualifies them as Best Model.  » On the website page HERE, some K-celebs have more than one picture that people can vote for (click on Rain’s thumbnails, and both pictures open).  Members may also leave comments.

3) It looks to run from October 12 to November 14 (ending right before the LDF 9th Family Concert on the 26th).

4) The Lotte site’s English counterpart has no such page, so you must know Hangeul (and join) in order to vote properly.  Which is a source of frustration for us because we want to help our sister fans give Rain a “Lotte” love (which he needs… we don’t see him in any of the top three spots!).  I gave the voting a whirl, but it required log-in.

At the same time, though… we can understand the difficulty and time it would have taken to get an English page up and able to accept some kind of overseas registration… oh, well.

If you’re able, go on over and jump into the fray!

The rest of us will send Ji-Hoon good vibes, and urge our Asian sisters to vote like madwomen. 😀

Okay, so where the heck IS that thing?

•October 13, 2010 • 10 Comments

Hmph.

Terri sits down at her desk and slowly sifts through her Rain CD stash.  Is it here?  Nope.  Is it there?  Naw.  Well, darn!  Where could it possibly be?

What am I looking for, you ask?  Oh, just that full album that Rain promised he was going to release sometime in October.  It has got to be here somewhere.  Oh.  Oh, wait.  That’s right.  It couldn’t possibly be here because—wait for it…wait for it…

The album hasn’t been released yet!

Come on, Rain.  Did you really think we’d forget about it?  I mean, really?  Well, just in case you’re still wondering, that would be a big NO.  No, we didn’t forget.  Not for one single minute.

So, where is it?  October is almost halfway gone, and there’s no album in sight.  What is going on?  Certainly, we’d understand if its release has been delayed.  After all, you’ve been kind of busy this summer Zepp-ing and Domanja-ing and that sort of thing.  Still, what we don’t quite understand is your total silence on the subject, which has been deafening ever since Back to the Basic‘s release in March.

Who knows?  Perhaps those gorgeous zipped lips of yours are part of some spectacularly creative marketing strategy you’ve drummed up and aren’t quite ready to reveal?  Or perhaps there has been some snag in the album’s production and its release date has had to be pushed back a bit?  Whatever the situation may be, it would be really nice if you’d share it with those of us who have been waiting patiently for the album to drop.

So.  Yo!  Rain!  October album, kudasai.

Hmph.

Terri :-}

P.S.  And just in case you are wondering, yes, I am joking.  Um…sort of.   :-}

J.Tune is out of the red… and in the black.

•October 12, 2010 • 8 Comments

Asian news source Edaily is reporting today that updated figures are in and J.Tune has turned a profit.

As we understand it, J.Tune Enterprises, Rain’s representation in South Korea and Asia, made the following announcement today through their quarterly report:

“We’ve met our net and operating goals, and succeeded in turning a profit.

There was a rumor that J.Tune Entertainment would be kicked out of the stock, but it is mere rumor and nothing but speculation.  The financial structure of our company is very stable.  We hope that other negative and scurrilous rumors that are also without foundation will stop.

We expect to achieve similar sales goals this year as we did in 2009, but even so won’t be content with that level and will make greater effort to maximize profits.”

(Thanks to rain bird @rain-eu. and Edaily for this information.)

This is welcome news indeed.

Fugitive Plan.B OST (2010)  Glory -Kimi ga iru kara- (courtesy of mikirabbit @YT)

(Translation by: mikirabbit)

When I wanted to speak, I could not say half of it
When we meet, I could look at those eyes that are surrounding me
I am near, the dream shines upon the story of the time we meet
The smile that you silently gave me was very delighted, very gentle

Glory glory you’re my shine
Even these tears change into courage because you’re here
Without giving up, I’ll walk towards the place where wishes are granted

I wonder what the future will be like, whether you’ll still here
The town that the two of us met each other is still developing till today
The always important things that I can believe in will not change
Even when we are far apart, our heart can still link, can still meet with a smile

Glory glory you’re my shine
Even the lonely nights change into courage when you’re here
I will not let go of the warmth in these palms

Actually, right now it’s exceedingly bright
I thought proudly that you will be here
Even when I am down, I will move forward
So that I can shine the way

Even the flowing clouds and the rustling wind
Changes to courage when you’re here
I will not let go of the warmth in these palms

Glory glory you’re my shine
No matter when, because you’re here, I can even see the dreams
I want to become strong, understand our differences
Always persevere on

Rain and Lee Seung-Gi: Two of South Korea’s successful singer-actors.

•October 12, 2010 • 11 Comments

[ *ETA: Also for the record… we totally agree with the comments made about Seung-Gi as well.  As an actor, the man is a delight to watch! ^@@^ ]

For the record… our praise of Rain’s portrayal of “Ji-Woo” doesn’t come simply from being his fans.

It comes from just how many shades of Ji-Woo he is bringing to light, how many of Rain’s past characters we can see cleverly incorporated into that portrayal, and how this role is showing even more of the range he was born with… so it’s really nice to see someone else appreciate the difficulty of what he’s pulling off as well.

Amazing, how Ji-Woo wears such a complicated, seemingly effortless “face” for the people in his world, and how you never see the REAL Ji-Woo unless a) the subject of tragic friend Kevin comes up OR b) he sets eyes on singer Keiko.  So far, anyway.  Wow.

Thanks to the Lee Seung-Gi fan blog LSGfan for the tip on the interesting write-up below.

Article: Also actively involved in TV dramas… The golden age of singers
Date: October 10, 2010
SourceYonhap News/Naver
English translationLSGfan.wordpress.com

Singers are dominating Wednesday-Thursday dramas

On the 29th and 30th of last month, the lead actors in each of the Wednesday-Thursday dramas on the 3 different broadcast channels were all singers.  In addition to SS501′s Kim Hyun Joong’s MBC “Playful Kiss” and Lee Seung Gi’s SBS “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho,” Rain’s KBS “Runaway Plan B” just began.

And this doesn’t include just the main leads. Park Soo Jin and No Min Woo were in “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” and Danny Ahn is in “Runaway Plan B.”

JYJ’s Mickey Yoochun is the main lead in Monday-Tuesday KBS drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and Park Jung Ah is playing a supporting role in daily KBS drama “Laugh Dong Hae.”  Also, Nam Gyuri played the role of the youngest daughter of the lead family in SBS “Life is Beautiful” and Tara’s JiYun will play the lead role in an upcoming KBS drama set to premiere next month.

Rain and Lee Seung Gi also stand victorious as actors

However, the acting ability of singer-actors are typically not on par with full-time actors.  For example, although Kim Hyun Joong and Mickey Yoochun’s star status landed them lead drama roles, they are still insufficient in many ways as actors.

However, there are cases like Rain and Lee Seung Gi in which they have not only stood tall and victorious as singers, but as actors as well.

Advancing even into Hollywood  through movies “Ninja Assassin” and “Speed Racer,”  and through dramas “Let’s go to school Sang Doo,” Full House,” and “A Love to Kill,” Rain’s acting ability has become solid over time.  Through this foundation, he is putting on a one man show and gaining much admiration for “Runaway Plan B.”  He is showing skills rivaling many actors, not only through his physical action, but also in his quick and effective line delivery and comical acting.

Having the support of men and women of all ages, Lee Seung Gi has also established a good reputation as an actor.  Showing his acting potential through his role as Hwang Tae Ja in 2006 KBS drama “Famous Princesses,” and then returning last year as the male lead for SBS drama “Brilliant Legacy” which recorded a high 47.1% tv viewership rating, he is quickly rising to join the ranks of A-list actors.

Also as the male lead in “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho,” he showed strength in carrying out the drama by effectively leading his co-star Shin Min Ah.  If Shin Min Ah was able to rid herself of her CF star label through this drama, then you could say Lee Seung Gi increased his firm footing as an actor by showing great depth and acting potential.

Having received acting lessons during their spare time as singers, these two persons are displaying the qualities of prepared actors.

Due to the difficulties associated with carrying out both singing and acting simulataneously, many singers have chosen to focus solely on their acting.   More than anything, singers change to full-time actors because the life expectancy of a singer is typically way shorter than than of an actor.  Representative examples include Lim Chung Jung, Yoon Eun Hye, Sun Yuri, Yoon Kye Sang, Hwang Jung Eom, Nam Gyuri, Park Soo Jin, Park Jung Ah

On the other hand, there are idol stars like SNSD’s Yoona, 2pm’s Taec Yeon, Super Junior’s Choi Si Won, Big Bang’s Top, Tara’s JiYun and EunJung, DBSK’s YunoYuno who have attracted attention for taking on acting while still being active as singers.

Runaway/Fugitive main theme: Running & Running.

And that’s not an understatement, is it?  Sometimes I think the name of the drama should be changed to Running & Running.  LOL

(And on that note—honestly, folks, how could you not expect to see Rain drop a lot of weight after having done hundreds upon hundreds of takes chased full out by Jung-Jin?  The first episode alone had me tired out just watching, and Rain will be running and fighting in ALL of them.  And he always puts some delicious pounds back on later.  Stop sweating the man about his weight loss!)

(Wow, I really digressed there.  Back to the point, now…)

In more news about the Runaway/Fugitive OST, here are translated lyrics for the main theme song sung by MBLAQ.  And a fresh J.Tune Camp MV to complete the mood.  (The lyrics aren’t reworded or Americanized, but they are close enough to where you can get the gist.)

Thanks to the translating crew for their hard work.

Yeah,Like this
It’s MBLAQ
Let’s go

A chance for me has come, Don’t avoid my eyes
The fate that I can’t avoid, meeting you
In my head, that only one is my chance
Toss away everything, You still don’t know me

I’m waiting for the day you’ll hold on to me and come to my side

When I watch you turn, I’m only full of smiles
My heart thinking of holding onto you, Even if your feelings change and you’re not for me

Dreams or love, should I just erase it all now
If not, will it become rubbish full of memories
There’s no clear answer, now just trust me
There won’t be even a single mistake

Hold onto me well
I’m waiting for the day where you’ll come to my side

When I watch you turn I’m only full of smiles
My heart thinking of holding onto you Even if your feelings change you’re not for me

Far away and vague
I see your face and my heart is racing

Don’t rush, Come up to me
I am your destiny yeah

(woo-la) If you come up to me… as if you’ll get caught
(woo-baby) You’re avoiding my hands
(woo-la) Unfair fugitive
(woo-baby) Can’t hold onto me

Just Once, Not even a day my heart is at ease
The avoider and the pursuer… Turn over, time Running out
Beyond you, now I’ll put you in my hands
Thoughts of me only, The moments I’ll control you

New on the Block.
