Rain did indeed do a live interview on Thai TV Channel 3 about an hour ago, on the Ruang Lao Chao Nee show, just after midnight here in Atlanta, but around 11 am tomorrow morning Thailand time. It lasted roughly 15-20 minutes, and he seemed comfortable and at ease. And of course, he looked like a gazillion bucks. I’ve no idea what was said, and still it was the best 20 minutes I’ve had so far tonight.

The hosts were completely into him, but then who isn’t once he hits the set?

Nice showing, JiHoon! Do enjoy your time in Bangkok, and have a great BEST concert. 🙂

I can’t confirm this, folks, because everything is in Thai. But the word is that Rain is supposed to have a LIVE interview on Thai TV 3 at around 11:00 to 12:15 Thailand time. (I am assuming this is 11:00 am to 12:15 pm, because most of Asia goes by a 24 hour clock rather than AM/PM.)

» Go to Thai TV 3 is HERE.

According to timeanddate.com, it is now 10:20 am ICT Saturday morning in Bangkok, and so perhaps in an hour or two this interview may happen.

I’m remembering the time that (lying) show in Manila brought on a fake Rain, back in the fall. Please don’t let this be a repeat of that. Hopefully I have the time converted correctly… Should be interesting. Do stay tuned.

[online talk radio] The Mary & Tracy Show hosts cover Rain in their Important People series.

•May 6, 2011 • 6 Comments

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

Mary: “He—Rain—rides the wave. He’s the crest. He’s at the top. He’s the guy that everybody loves….”

[Cloud USA 5/6/11] You read that headline correctly, fans! Mary A. Reed of Los Angeles, host of online talk radio’s The Mary & Tracy Show, and her guest host Noreen Brown started off their very first Important People series installment yesterday, on May 5, with two men that they find influential and absolutely fascinating—Rain and Chef Rick Bayless.

According to their blurb on blogtalkradio.com, Mary and Noreen will be speaking about important and influential people we should all know, but may have missed because of the overload of media information that inundates us on a daily basis. When they saw the TIME 100 Most Influential People list this year, and realized that they couldn’t identify many of the names, they decided that folks needed to be introduced to these people who are helping to shape our world.

Mary (during the Intro): “And we are also going to try to get into the discussion on this show the person that I chose, someone completely unrelated, and unrelated to Cinco de Mayo as a matter of fact. The person that I chose to speak about today is a Pop star from Korea by the name of Rain. And so the second half of the show today, we’ll be talking about this incredible person who actually got more votes than any other person in TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People’s poll…

…And so when I looked it up, I just found it completely fascinating. He represents a whole cultural wave coming out of the East…”

Even with my utter excitement at Rain being chosen as a topic by an online talk radio host here in the States, I have to say I did find Noreen’s talk on Chef Bayless fascinating. I would try his cooking any day, and can certainly see why she brought him to the table. And then…

Noreen (at minute marker 19:32): “Now, tell us about RAIN!”

SangDoo Let’s Go To School is mentioned, as well as Full House, Speed Racer, Rain embracing his single eyelids, the power of the Hallyu Wave, et cetera. I have to say that this was 30 minutes out of my day well spent.

Rain hasn’t begun his military service yet, Mary—he would have by now, but for a postponement granted by his country so that he could continue studies for his Masters degree and finish up career obligations that were in the works. He should be enlisting before the end of this year. Thanks so much for talking Rain up on your show. Have you been introduced to Rain’s movie Ninja Assassin, by Warner Bros., yet? He is the first Korean to have a supporting role in a Hollywood blockbuster (Speed Racer), but he had the lead role in Ninja Assassin—again, the first Korean to ever do so in Hollywood.

[clip] Lee SunGyun flails over being greeted by Rain. :D

Haha! I’ve been dying to know what Lee SunGyun (one of my favorite actors ever, and the owner of one of the deepest, sexiest voices on the PLANET, I watched the entire drama Coffee Prince just to hear it) was saying about Rain to host Kang HoDong on the Golden Fishery’s Knee Slap Shaman show. And as it turns out… he was fangirling because Rain spoke to him back at DongGun and SoYoung’s wedding last year. ROFL!

We feel you, SunGyun. Go ‘head! 😀

[Eng Trans]110504. (courtesy of ratoka @YT) / (tip: Rain’s official Music Thread on Soompi)

(brief English summary by rain bird @rain-eu.)

On MBC TV show program ‘Golden fishery’ aired on last 4th, actor ‘Lee Sun Gyun’ gave regular panel members a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what happened in the marriage between actor ‘Jang Dong Gun’ and actress ‘Goh So Young’ last time.

‘Lee’ felt so small when he was in the presence of other famous guests at their wedding ceremony, and it was Rain who caught his attention. He was inwardly excited to see Rain even while a group of guests was being photographed. Lee’s entourage of actors whose entrees were served so late that they decided to go to eat pork hocks near the wedding hall.

On the program, Lee said that driving to a restaurant, he had shouted at his colleagues, “Oh, Bi Bi Bi! (Rain).. Did you happen to see Bi greeting me?”. At that time, every panelist burst out laughing, including himself.

GOING:

Sources say that, in about 20 minutes from this post (May 6, 5:40 pm KST), Rain will be on his way to Bangkok, Thailand for his The BEST Rain concert tour stop there (Flight # KE651)… and that he should arrive at his destination at around 9:10 pm Bangkok time.

Have a safe and comfortable flight, Rain! Thailand is more than ready to greet you with open arms.

And have a bit of fun while you’re there—your show isn’t until the 8th.

COMING (or maybe still GOING?):

Is MBLAQ on their way home from Japan, or off to another Japanese tour stop?

Just wondering… because G.O tweeted this sweet message about an hour ago, in Japanese: “Thank you! See you again!” At least that’s what it converts to in Google Translate.

It’s so good to see Mir back with the Pack. Enjoy and treasure this time, Boys!

It’s unfortunate that I have no real info or details, but that can’t be helped—everything is in Chinese. I could contact our friends over there and ask about it, but by the time I did that, the event would more than likely be over.

Suffice it to say that there appears to be a little Rain endorsement charity auction going on over on Baidu, where MENtholatum items and personal items donated by Rain, with his signature (perhaps preprinted), are being sold for what I hope is a good cause. Members of China Baidu RainBar, Raincloud Hong Kong, Cloud China, and Chinese members of The Cloud appear to be involved (or perhaps these were the places they decided to put the information).

I have no idea who the sponsors are or if MENtholatum truly is involved… I thought y’all might simply like to see the items up for bid, that’s all. Really cute stuff!

[article] Rain to make it rain.

•May 5, 2011 • 7 Comments

— ^@@^

Pollstar 4/27/2011 — by Philip Brasor

Rain to make it rain

The 29-year-old South Korean pop star Rain will start his mandatory two-year military service sometime later this year, and plans to go out in a big way.

The singer is about to launch a large-scale Asian tour and, in addition to the usual laser effects, he’ll be making good on his name by actually providing precipitation during his concerts.

A statement from Singapore concert promoter Faith and D revealed that Rain’s concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium May 22 will feature an actual rain storm with real water.

The storm apparently lasts for two-and-a-half minutes and uses 1,000 liters of water, which is collected and recycled.

Such production values means the number of seats available will be less than they normally would be at the stadium, but Faith and D say that ticket prices will not be affected. In fact, the top ticket price will be about one-third that of the top ticket price for the last Rain performance in Singapore.

At a press conference in Pattaya to promote the Thailand leg of the tour, Rain said that he would promote “green themes” at all the cities he plays.

“This upcoming concert revolves around two concepts,” he said, according to AsiaOne News, “Love Nature, which is about how to save the world, and Latest Show, a spectacle that no fans have seen before.”

He added that some of the proceeds from the tour would go to help victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

[Cloud USA announcement] Revamps are in the air.

•May 5, 2011 • 4 Comments

MENtholatum and J.VJQ aren’t the only refurbishers in town, folks. Cloud USA has been refreshed.

Not that we were unhappy at all, mind you. We weren’t. But…

Rain has done quite a bit career-wise since mid-2010, not to mention grown tremendously in mind and soul since turning 30 (in Korean age) with the ringing in of the New Year. Just like he felt the need to bring his official website up to speed with a look more reflective of his activities last spring (the Back To The Basic revamp), we felt that it was time to do that here, now—freshen up a bit, and be reflective in spots of his career changes and the gorgeous transition the Man is going through.

And so you will find that fully half of our fan site homepages have been given lovely face lifts and our Media Blog header has made the leap into 2011. Please enjoy looking everything over and seeing the sights—we’re very pleased with it.

*Please note: Our fan site revamp isn’t finished, and probably won’t be for another week because of the extensive work to be done on our News and Events Image Gallery and our Favorite Pics Page. As of this posting, the News and Events Image Gallery is under massive construction and the Favorite Pics soon will be, so please excuse our mess over there!

Thanks for your patience, everyone. And thanks for being a part of our Cloud USA community.

Having you all here makes us really happy.

[ETA new info] 비상 [飛上]: 태양가까이… The new title for “Red Muffler 2011”?

•May 5, 2011 • 5 Comments

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

*ETA 5/6: News source 10asia has posted this article where they say they’ve spoken to the producers of the movie 비상 [飛上]: 태양가까이 (CJ E&M) and that the translated title is “Take Off: Closer to the Sun.”  They may mean that the producers told them this, OR this may merely be 10asia’s take on it. Not sure, but I thought it of interest. An English-friendly CJ E&M site is HERE. — ^@@^]

[Cloud USA 5/5/11] This is the new movie title in Hangeul that is circling the Internet from Asian sources like Naver and TV Daily all the way to Movie Daum and HanCinema. And what exactly does that translate to, anyway?

Well, depends on who you ask.

Some English news sources say Flight: Close to the Sun. Some say Soar: Close to the Sun. Others say Emergency: Fly Close to the Sun. And others say Fly Up: Close to the Sun. (Google and Bing Translate say Emergency [On The Fly]: Close to the Sun. Babylon says Emergency [The High] : Near the Sun.)

All the same general idea… Korean is one of those amazing languages where every word that has an English counterpart has many English counterparts.

We started last year with rumored title “Red Scarf”, after the legendary 1964 movie of the same name. Then working title “Red Muffler.” And then “Living In The Sky.” And now we have “*your preference here*: Close to the Sun.” Interesting.

What we’d really like to do is ask the production Powers That Be who are making the movie and/or Rain how they would translate it into English. Their intent is where the buck stops and would be the truest translation anyone could ever get of 비상 [飛上]: 태양가까이 (Bi-sang: Tae-yang-ga-kka-i). (That “emergency” business really needs to be played up! Emergencies can be flights, but not all flights are an emergency, and English-speaking movie-goers need to get the idea that something important is at risk here!) But we have yet to even see that anyone has gotten a direct quote, although the word “confirmed” has been used. Hm.

Ah, well it’s not like any of this is a problem, after all. In the days to come, regardless of whether someone uses Red Scarf, Muffler, or something close to the sun, we’ll all instantly understand what they’re talking about anyway, right?

Rain’s movie! 🙂

Stephe @cloudusa.wordpress.com / www.cloudusa.org

P.S.: Forgive me if I don’t change my media blog Muffler checks to Flight Close to the Sun checks. “Muffler check” is short and sweet with a cute ring to it, we don’t know whether or not we’re going to get yet another title down the pike, and you know what I’m talking about anyway. Cool.

Rain check.

Rain gives surprise lecture to students at Seoul University.

World star Rain took to a different kind of stage today, giving a closed lecture to three hundred students at Seoul University.

At 4 PM on May 3rd, Rain paid a surprise visit to Seoul University, whereupon he gave a lecture in an auditorium.

A spokesperson from his agency told Newsen, “He has been preparing a speech since last year, but due to constraints with his schedule, he was unable to go through with it. However, with some good fortune, he was able to find time to visit the students at the university today.” The spokesperson went on to state, “The title of his speech is ‘Culture Contents.’ A Q&A session is also planned in order to satisfy the students’ curiosity.”

Even though the lecture was intended to be a closed one, news of Rain’s arrival at the university spread like wildfire, with over three hundred students gathering at the auditorium. The lecture lasted approximately an hour and a half.

Meanwhile, Rain was recently voted TIME magazine’s “World’s Most Influential Person 2011.”

MBLAQ holds special album release event in Japan

Korean boy band MBLAQ has held a special event for the release of their single in Japan, according to their agency J.Tune Entertainment.

“The boys held the event for the release of their debut single ‘Your Luv’ at the open stage located in the Lazona Kawasaki Plaza in Kawasaki of Japan yesterday,” a PR official from J.Tune told 10Asia over the phone on Wednesday.

MBLAQ then sold about 10,000 copies of “Your Luv” during the event and took the No. 2 spot on Oricon’s daily chart yesterday.

The official went onto explain that MBLAQ will head off to five other cities in Japan to promote their latest release which will go on sale in the country today.

“We will work hard on our activities in Japan and will try to come in first on the Oricon chart,” the members of MBLAQ were quoted as saying. “We hope that our song will give hope and strength to those who were affected by the earthquake.”

On March 11, Japan was hit by an earthquake and tsunami that hit several cities and towns which caused the delay of a number of Korean artists debut in the country including 2NE1, INFINITE and Jang Keun-suk.

Composed of members Seung-ho, G.O., Lee Joon, Chun-dung and Mir, MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality) made their debut in 2009 with their single album “JUST BLAQ” and followed it up with their second single “Y” in May 2009.

They have enjoyed a successful return to the local music scene in January this year with their first full-length album “BLAQ Style” and released the 3D edition the following month.

The boys expanded their career into Japan after singing with Sony Music Records and have topped Japan’s Recochoku mobile chart “Your Luv” in mid-April.

Rain’s world tour stop in Daegu, South Korea, from October of 2007. You can check out not only “Handshake” but the entire concert by fan cam over on its own sub-page under the IN CONCERT section of our media blog sidebar, to your right. →

You might want to set aside a nice chunk of time and pack a lunch, though, because it’s a doozy. A doozy well worth every second! Please have at it. And have loads of fun!
