Korea Times Music Festival to release artist list.

•February 19, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The Korea Times Music Festival has announced that the names of the first group of performers signed on for their 2010 show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles will be released tonight at midnight, Pacific Standard Time (February 20th).

» You can read that announcement and search out other show information on their Facebook page HERE.

As stated on their information page at starwoodmeeting.com (also linked to their Facebook): “The Korean Music Festival started in 2003 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Korean immigration to the United States and has since grown into one of the most anticipated annual events in the Asian American community. The concert is a 4 hour event that consists of 12-15 top-tier Korea artists ranging from the most popular teen idol groups to famous ‘trot’ singers of years past and concludes with the legendary Hollywood Bowl fireworks finale.”

It will still be a little longer before the » temporary Korean Music Festival site goes away and an official one put up—around ten days.  Good luck, everyone.  We hope all of your favorite groups and artists are on that list!

[video] Rain at the European luxury brand MCM/Lotte opening.

•February 19, 2010 • 5 Comments

In Seoul.  We know it was 10 am on a cold morning, Korea time, but it looked to us like Rain wasn’t really into this event, though he was being very polite.  And frankly, we don’t blame him.  The man can’t seem to sit down and rest for five minutes without being summoned to an appearance somewhere.  How about someone give him a break?  Thank you.

In fact, he seemed to not be feeling well—a slight head cold, maybe?  (We are moms and we know The Look.)  The way people would turn away in mid-conversation and forget he was standing there, or not include him in any conversation when he right there looking at them, or walk right by without so much as a head nod, didn’t sit well with us either. (Maybe we’re just not used to seeing him all by himself in public like this.)

But we appreciate having this video and wanted to show it to all of you because: 1) he is as handsome as they come in it, and 2) it took place this past Tuesday the 18th (14 hours ahead of our time, but who cares about technicalities) and how often is that that a US Cloud can see footage of Rain from a mere three days ago?  To us, that’s like watching him on a live feed. — Stephe ^@@^ 🙂

Arirang, Korea’s global TV, gets up close and personal in this report from November 2009.  The footage hits many important spots: Legend of Rainism, Ninja Assassin, Rain’s global ambassadorship, SixToFive, CNN interviews, et cetera.  You even get to meet the boys of MBLAQ.  So sit down with your favorite beverage and enjoy. — ^@@^

Rain, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Jackie Chan.  Oh my goodness, that is nerve-wracking.

This February 18th article off the PRNewswire is primarily about one of the most sought-after actors in Asia, Japanese/Taiwanese leading man Takeshi Kaneshiro (I remember him best from the movies “House of Flying Daggers” and “The Returner.”)  He IS outstanding, as is Jackie Chan, as I’m sure most of you know.  It’s hard not to enjoy the adorable Jackie in his movies.  BUT… when it comes to Best International Entertainer, sorry boys, but Rain the Quadruple Threat takes that prize.  Let me count the ways, and I don’t even have to leave the year 2009: 1) stage show/singing, Legend of Rainism world tour, 2) producing, MBLAQ, 3) designing, Six To Five launch, 4) acting, Hollywood movie Ninja Assassin.

I could go on (modeling, ambassadorships, charity work, et cetera), but there’s no need.

All three men are also in the running for Asian Cultural Ambassador of the Decade (who else fits that title if not Rain?) and The 10 Best International Actors of the Decade.  Looks like it’s going to be a good fight.  Clouds, if you haven’t already, make it your mission today to hit the voting site and support our Magic Feet.  He certainly deserves it.

That is the way Arirang, Korea’s global TV, described Rain (비), Shin Min-A (신민아), and Jang Dong-Gun (장동건) for their report on SK Telecom’s commercial shoot for the solar new year back in January 2010.  You should remember Min-A opposite Rain in the tragic Kdrama A Love To Kill.  Rain and Dong-Gun have done Giordano commercial shoots together, and have been good friends for a fairly long time… as we understand it, Dong-Gun is his hyung (spiritual big brother). — ^@@^

Korea Invades Hollywood.

•February 18, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Rain was briefly interviewed for this article on Screen Online back in November of 2009, in the middle of Legend of Rainism, right as Ninja Assassin premiered in Hollywood.  The subject matter concerned how, as the Hallyu Wave swept over Asia, Korean culture slowly seeped into American television and movies instead of making a big splash.  But that even today, it shows no sign of stopping.  Ethnic Korean actors have indeed begun to gain traction in the U.S.

Rain states: “Stereotype does still exist when casting films.  Asians have our own broad and unique culture; it’s just that more people have been interested in the martial-arts side than others.”

Tickets for KTMF 2010 at the Hollywood Bowl in LA are already selling like crazy.  Fans have even made their hotel reservations, mapped out their travel routes, and arranged to meet up with each other.  They are chomping at the bit to see their favorite artists come this May.  But… the Powers That Be have not yet released the list of MCs and artists that have been signed to perform.

Official tickets, on sale since January, will be ready for mail-out or pick-up on March 15th, according to the » KTMF on Facebook.  What concerns us is the continued delay in releasing the names of the groups and performers that have already signed on.  Even if the roster isn’t complete, why not have a list somewhere that is updated as artists are made official, so that fans can know if their idols will be there before they spend hard-earned money buying tickets?

We hope that every fan who has made plans to go is happy with the performers list when it is finally posted.  We wonder if Rain, who has done the Hollywood Bowl in the past, might be on that list?  And we hope that the Hollywood Bowl adds the festival onto its May calendar soon, because right now it’s not there.

Rain, Rich, and a third artist whose name only appears in Japanese gave a solid, live-mic performance at the 2002 Mnet Music Video Festival.  Rain had just won an Mnet award on the show for Bad Guy (Nappeun Namja) and accepted his statuette humbly, though he was quite overwhelmed.

Clouds, just when I think I’ve already heard everything Rain’s sexy R&B voice can do, he sneaks up and surprises me like this.  (Remember—he was only 20 here, on a live mic. ) All I could do was pick my jaw up off the floor, will my heart to slow down, and then bop happily along to the beat of the ending song.  Boys In Black.  Enjoy. — Stephe ^@@^

Rain to be at MCM/Lotte main branch opening.

•February 17, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Rain’s official website has announced Rain’s participation in the opening celebration of the Avenue El MCM in Lotte Department Store’s main branch on Thursday, February 18, at 10 am.  (Thank you, rain bird and Rain Europe, for posting a translation of the notice.)  » This interesting article in the Joong Ang Daily (Honored place at Lotte puts MCM on par with famous rivals) goes further in depth about the opening, though it doesn’t mention Rain—but that doesn’t matter.  If word comes from the Cloud Master of rain-jihoon.com, you can pretty much bet money on it.  He’ll be there.  (I do believe this is in Seoul, though at first I was a bit puzzled.  The notice in Microsoft Translator says Location: FL, Avenue El MCM stores.  They have no way of knowing that “FL” to us means Florida.)

°

Poor Seungho (MBLAQ).  We haven’t been ignoring you!  We weren’t aware that you had fractured your ribs back in January during the SBS variety show Idol Magnae Rebellion.  From the looks of things lately, you are back in the swing of things with the other Boys now, and we’re glad you’re okay.

Does everyone remember Rain’s amazing Return To Korea performance at MKMF at the end of 2008?  (It began with a “walking on water” incline, and ended with a Rainism to beat all Rainisms.)  As we watched, Terri and I knew he was harnessed because we had already seen the “making of” footage on RAINY DAY Season 1 (you can watch it too over on our RAINY DAYS page, episode #51).  That still didn’t stop us from being completely enthralled by the performance, or nervously praying that the staff didn’t accidentally drop Rain and hurt him.

Well, imagine my utter delight when I ran across THIS little jewel yesterday.  A fan cam of the “walking on water” incline.  From BEHIND.  I am tickled  happy, I tell you.  — Stephe ^@@^ 5:09 am EST

A whole Lotte posing going on.

•February 16, 2010 • Leave a Comment

As you have seen for the past two RAINY DAY Season 2 episodes, Rain does a heck of a lot of standing in front of Lotte Duty Free cameras.  (Frankly, I’m waiting to see what Lotte does with those semi-automatic weapons pictures.  I… can’t imagine.)  When I zoomed over to check out Lotte on the Internet recently, out of curiosity, I was pleasantly surprised to find that even though Big Bang graces the home page of the store’s official Korean website… Rain and actress Shin Mina are front and center on its English counterpart.

There is some really cute star wallpaper that you can download, too (under Magazine).  Not a whole lot (Rain, Mina, and the other actors only have two apiece), but at least it’s there.

» Check out this 40-second spot with Rain and Big Bang.  Big Bang (to Rain): “Why are you so late?”  Rain: “I stopped by Lotte Duty Free.”  Big Bang gets all excited about that and jumps up to go shopping.  ROFL

Question: Does anyone recognize this magazine spread?  All I know is that it came out in Hong Kong.  Since the LoR poster is on the cover, could it have been advertising the Hong Kong show in late November 2009?  Inquiring minds want to know…  — Stephe ^@@^

Asia broadcast 2/13.  My goodness, but he is gorgeous.  We’re thinking this Lotte project shoot occurred sometime between the summer 2009 Six To Five store book signings and the very beginning of the Legend of Rainism tour at the end of August.  Why?  Look at his haircut.  Back in the summer, Rain was still sporting his original “Rainism” video style. THIS has “Saitama Super Arena” written all over it.
