This really warms my heart, JiHoon being kind and attentive to one of my fellow writers. It doesn’t matter that I don’t know her, and we’re not in the same country, and we don’t write the same genre… it’s just like the military—writers are family. Good for you, Hyerin!

When my book was published, Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) sent me a message of congratulations.
His handwriting is very impressive. (Actually, I asked him to say something to my readers, but he offered his congratulations to me.)

Rain’s written message to the journalist and writer, from the image:

Hi, journalist ‘Lee Hye Rin’! No, dear writer. haha.
I’m also trying to read a lot recently.
I’m so thankful that I’m able to read a book, thanks to you.
I hope you’ll write a lot of good material in the years ahead, and at the same time will honor me with your friendship.
Thank you.
Hope it becomes a big hit !!

With best wishes from Rain.

This young person, who appears to be in fashion and clothing design, has shared what looks like a recent picture of himself and Rain.

It may have been on one of the many sets or locations Rain has worked at lately where dressers and wardrobe were needed. Wherever it was, we really appreciate him doing this. 🙂

Jjeoleo. And rain. (Real World star Rain)

*Note from rain bird: The term ‘쩔어’ is a slang expression and can be slang for ‘great’.
It is hardly idiomatic and is not considered good style, but it’s one of the big buzz words right now.
“쩔어” is being used as the user name of the short man in the picture.
And its phonetic spelling is “jjeolro.”

There is no extension date yet, but more than likely The Cloud might post something within the next few days letting everyone know. **NOTE: You can be assured that Rain’s written and spoken condolences to Japan aren’t the only things he has done in the face of the disaster. Regardless of how he never publicizes his donation efforts in the media, he has sent aid to Japan and plenty of it, we dare say. If you can, PLEASE follow his lead and donate to the 7th Cloud’s Appeal-Donation for Earthquake Victims in Japan. The ground over there is still shaking, the nuclear crises are not over, and  Japan is in a terrible state. It doesn’t matter how little or how much you give, but that you did. Thanks, all…!

Well, now… Red Muffler filming should start at any moment! Rain and his fellow cast members have already been hard at work training in and out of the cockpit so that everything looks as real as possible. In addition to that, they’ve received their Red Scarves, so you know it’s about time to get it on.

Have a terrific week. Try not to wear out that “Brothers & Me” video. LOL!

Yes, we seldom put up “Rain-mentions” here because, let’s face it, dozens of people a day mention Rain in Asia and we’d be at it all day when there are a lot more important things out there (like actual Rain news). HOWEVER… this is as cute as heck, especially since it involves noted actor and dimpled K-hunk extraordinaire Oh JiHo (Kevin, The Fugitive: Plan B / Song Taeha, Chuno / Park DaeHyun, Strangers 6 / and a whole lot more stuff).  Nice comeback, JiHo! He didn’t even try to counter it. LOL! ♥

‘Zhang Peng Peng’ : Rain.

MC : It is not ‘O Ji Ho’ who has been chosen by her.

Hyung… this is a term often used and often misunderstood. If you have watched any amount of Kdrama or any variety shows, you probably have heard the word many times.

In Korea, ALL men are considered brothers, something outside of Asia that is difficult to understand, but this speaks directly to the Korean culture and to all Koreans’ responsibilities to country and citizens. Personally, I love this about Korean culture because it really means you are never alone, and that there is always someone willing to give you a hug if you need one.  Which brings me to another Asian term often misunderstood. Skinship. The defined meaning of that? Levels of intimacy or touching. The deeper meaning?  When Asians touch each other, it means more than it does here in the States.

My point in all of this? Rain shows a side of himself, in this great video, that we seldom get to see.

Here Rain is interacting with Kim Tae Woo and JYP.  These three have known each other for about ten years and it really shows as they fool around (like brothers), hug, sing, and bounce together. It’s like getting to see all the fun between three siblings hanging out with each other for the afternoon!

Rain is looking particularly cuddly in his gray t-shirt and cap, and just look at that smile!

Ohhhh! I spy a back hug!

Enjoy!

(English lyrics translation by rain bird @rain-eu.)

Yeah~ it’s been a long time three brothers
This is our story Brothers &me brothers &me My brother JYP.

I, sometimes want to see someone such as those who know about my everything.
– where I’ve come from, which way I’m coming from, how I was frustrated by my failure, and how I’ve overcome those difficulties.

When I want to see such people who always embrace me in a warm way,
even if my real self the way I am is shown to them.

With my brothers &me who always understand my meaning even without speaking,
we’ll never be alone.

I, sometimes want to see such people who come to my mind first,
whenever hard things happen in my life.

When I, sometimes want to see such people who always welcome me as I am,
even if I lose everything in my life and have to start from scratch.

With my brothers &me who always understand my meaning even without speaking,
we’ll never be alone.

My brothers & me, My brothers & me, My brothers & me, come on.
What we’ve realized the importance of it before it’s too late is our blessing. Thank you.

That’s why we will always be together in many kind weather.
With my brothers & me who always understand my meaning even without speaking,
we’ll never be alone.

Such people who know more about me than me.
I think nothing is more precious than that in the world.

Hangeul & English Lyrics: (Daum Music / courtesy of Scorpiola)

Yeah~ it’s been a long time three brothers
This is our story
Brothers & me brothers & me My brother JYP

My brothers & me My brothers & me My brothers & me come on

Thank you
That’s why we will always be together in many kind weather

7th Cloud Appeal-Donation for Earthquake Victims in Japan

Hello, this is the 7th term executive board.

We believe you are all aware of the news on the extensive damage of a major earthquake that occurred in Japan from the daily TV broadcasts. As RAIN’s Clouds,we believe that we should to take the initiative, and give out a helping hand, particularly because our artiste RAIN has been active in these regions.

We’ve normally done donation activities within each period of the membership, but as you know, 7th term membership account has been used to cover the server cost. In addition, we have no right to spend the money collected for a specific purpose (the 8th executive board activity cost or server cost), despite working on the recruitment of 8th membership members. So we try to raise money to help the earthquake victims separately.

It is not advisable for the 7th term executive board, who are not qualified as the 8th term executive board who haven’t yet formally begun working, to spend the money, but the sad situation in Japan has made us bring up this matter.

*Official members are requested to give their opinions on whether 10 million won (around $9000. USD) can be used from the 8th Cloud, for donation towards this cause.

(For your reference, we contributed 30 million won to support victims recover in Haiti.)

HelloKPop 3/14/2011 — by Chris

Here is how you can donate to the Japan earthquake and tsunami relief effort

We would like to take a moment away from Kpop to appeal to you about something incredibly important. I think it’s safe to assume that you all are aware of what happened in Japan. We are a Korean entertainment news website, but we’re also humans, we’re also able to do something about it.

So we appeal to you. Please donate if you can to help the people who have been affected. Sometimes it is hard for us to help others but you can help the victims.

The following are some ways you can donate to. Please make sure if you donate, make sure it’s legitimate and verified. Remember to ask yourself.

Is the charity or fundraiser registered with the state?
• What is the name, address, and telephone number of the organization asking for the donation?
• Exactly how will the donation be used?
• What percentage of the contribution will actually be spent on the charitable purpose of the organization?

Click here to donate to the Red Cross

Text “redcross” to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross. Text “japan” or “quake” to 80888 to donate $10 to the Salvation Army. Text “4japan” to 20222 to send a $10 donation to the humanitarian group World Vision. The charges will appear on your cell phone bill.

Texting “corps” to 30644 will bring Mercy Corps updates in response.

For a list of charitable organizations, check out InterAction. The Better Business Bureau and Charity Navigator are good ways to check out charities as well.

For Verizon phone customers, read the following:

Verizon Wireless has quickly implemented a mobile giving program for customers looking for a quick and easy way to contribute to Japan relief efforts. The company announced today that customers can use their mobile phones to make $10 donations to a host of non-profit organizations responding to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Customers can easily make a $10 donation by simply sending a text message and may choose from nine organizations aiding those in need in Japan, including the American Red Cross. Donating $10 is easy – simply text the specific word to the organization’s designated short code:

• ADRA Relief: text SUPPORT to 85944
• American Red Cross Relief: text REDCROSS to 90999
• Convoy of Hope: text TSUNAMI or SUNAMI to 50555
• GlobalGiving: text JAPAN to 50555
• International Medical Corps: text MED to 80888
• Mercy Corps: text MERCY to 25383
• Salvation Army: text JAPAN to 80888
• Save the Children Federation, Inc.: text JAPAN or TSUNAMI to 20222
• World Relief Corp. of National Association of Evangelicals: text WAVE to 50555
• World Vision, Inc.: text 4JAPAN or 4TSUNAMI to 20222

Text messages are free for customers donating to any of these organizations. Verizon Wireless always waives text-messaging fees for disaster relief, and 100 percent of each $10 donation goes to the relief organization. For Verizon Wireless customers who pay monthly bills, the $10 donations will appear in customers’ next regular monthly bill. For customers using the company’s prepaid services, the $10 donations will be taken from customers’ prepaid balance.

Thank you for reading and thank you if you decide to donate.

Rain’s popularity still endures, even if he has come to hold a concert in China in many years.

It says in today’s Chinese paper that it’s too difficult to even get just one VIP ticket for his ‘The Best’ concert.

As soon as the ticket sales have begun, the amount of the sales has ranked at number one, and all those trying to buy VIP tickets are in a difficult situation where it’s too difficult to even get just one of them.

1280 VIP tickets have already been sold out, so the work is in a state of paralysis with the flood of inquiring calls, and even reporters have to purchase tickets online.

In addition, almost all the other admission tickets that cost 180, 380, and 580 have also been sold out.

MBLAQ Talks About Rain for Crea Star Magazine

The members of MBLAQ talked about how Rain was involved on their recent album.

Despite his usual busy schedule Rain is always thinking about MBLAQ according to G.O.

Even though the main song was not written by him, the members commented that Rain was fully involved during the production of their new album. G.O revealed that Rain wanted to let the boys create a different types of songs so it was necessary to leave the style from their hyung. But this does not mean that he completely left during the production of the album. Rain was involved in the creation of the song by monitoring the guys and also checking their MV. G.O continued saying that he also pointed their weak points and the areas they were not doing which helped them grow.

Seung Ho later mentioned that during their hiatus the boys fell into a slump but Rain was the one who gave them power and helped them overcome that situation.

He also mentioned that Rain does not say many words but by the simple phrase ‘This time you can definitely do this’ helped the boys get confidence.

It is so nice to see how Rain want to see the boys develop their own style but still remains near them so he can always help the members of MBLAQ.

[Cloud USA 3/11/2011]

More and more, South Korean mega-Pop icon Jung JiHoon (Rain, 비) is becoming a true study subject in connection with schools and universities across the world.

First, there was author Sun Jung’s study, Korean Masculinities and Transcultural Consumptions: Yonsama, Rain, Oldboy, KPop Idols, published this past December by Hong Kong University Press and selected as one of the main textbooks for media classes at Goldsmiths, University of London in England and the University of Melbourne in Australia.

And now, the Korean American Bar Association of Southern California, the UCLA School of Law, and select UCLA student groups are getting in on the action by using Rain, his movie Ninja Assassin, and other Korean fare to discuss the challenges of exchanging popular culture between the U.S. and Asia.

On April 5, 2011 at 7 PM in Los Angeles (sign-in and a light reception will begin at 6:30), this fun panel at the UCLA School of Law, which is for anyone interested in learning what it takes to move movies, music and television across the Pacific, will be presented by Michael Chang of major Hollywood film studio Warner Bros. (distributor of Ninja Assassin), and attorney Ekwan E. Rhow of specialty litigation firm Bird, Marella, Boxer, Wolpert, Nessim, Drooks & Lincenberg (Rain’s counsel here in the United States), as well as Yaphett Powell of FOX Broadcasting and former MBC America counsel Robert J. Kang.

The session is free; entertainment professionals and interested laypersons are invited, and it is also accredited for students.

» The “Moving Movies, Music and Television Across the Pacific” Facebook event page is HERE.

» Detailed information on event location and where to RSVP is on the Pacific Highwinds website HERE.

This is wonderful news. Ninja Assassin, a true product of cross-cultural effort, is indeed a perfect example when it comes to this type of discussion. As a matter of fact, due to his own determination to make himself available to many people across the world during the span of his career, one might say that Rain is a product of cross-cultural effort.

Congratulations, JiHoon!

Star News, 3/12/2011 — [English translation by rain bird @rain-eu.]

Rain receives special training as a fighter pilot at Air Force Academy

Rain, who is set to enter the military late this year, is known to have received special training as a fighter pilot at an air base.

According to officials on the 12th, Rain received basic trainings, including hands-on G Force training, to fly combat planes as a fighter pilot, at Air Force Academy located in Cheongwon city in Chungcheongbuk-do, and at an air base in Daegu, last February and early this month, respectively.

He has begun to build up his body in earnest before starting shooting ‘Red Muffler’ in the middle of this month, which is the first ‘Top Gun’-style film in Korea. In addition to Rain, actor ‘Yu Joon Sahng’, ‘Kim Sung Soo’, and ‘Lee Jong Seok’ participated in this drill.

One of the officials said, “It was a serious undertaking for any novice trainee. Rain attained the highest grade in the training courses, probably because he works out regularly. The others, on the other hand, did not do awfully well, possibly because of the age-related loss of physical function.”

Hello, my fellow Clouds.  Stormy here with a little story about myself, Rain and a Sad Tango.

It was a dark and stormy night the first time I saw this video, and I know I sat spellbound as I watched it, chin in hand to prevent my mouth from dropping open, my eyes widening as it came to the part where Rain flips a cape seemingly out of nowhere and… dances. Dances with a passion that was so deep and wondrous that he who is JiHoon captured my heart for all time.

Yes, this was the day I fell in love with Rain.

Please enjoy this video of Rain’s Japanese debut with Sad Tango.

(Credit: MTV / Rling @YT)

In the end, this was a good transition for me, as I had spent many years watching Anime with my son and daughter and so I was far more used to hearing Japanese.

Ultimately though, Rain drew me into Kpop, Kdrama, and all things Korean.

Well, a very kind soul and Rain fan has tipped us off to the English counterpart of one of those sites… G-Market. (More information on popular ten-year-old shopping mall G-Market is HERE.)

While we haven’t yet had the opportunity to try out G-Market In English or purchase anything ourselves, we did want to make certain that you all had this information.

If anyone has ever used G-Market In English before, or if you decide to make a purchase from the site now, please let us and your fellow Rain fans know. We’re really curious about their reliability and ease or difficulty when it comes to placing a G-Market order…

Many thanks to the Rain fan who shared this tip with us.

Our Lee Joon has been a busy guy recently! So let’s get right to it and see what he’s been up to!

First, Joonie was cast in K-Will’s new music video along with IU, and what an awesome and somewhat ethereal video this has turned out to be.  They are both absolutely adorable as they send messages to each other. Joonie’s obsession with working out and his ballet skills are well shown as he tries to win  IU’s heart.

Oh that smile, Joon! And the last message to her? Genius!

Enjoy Joon and IU in K-Will’s new music video “My Heart is Beating.” Oh yeah, the song is pretty good too!

°

What else has Joonie been up to? How about winning a lead voice-over role for “Gnomeo and Juliet”, a 3-D animated Hollywood film! T-ara’s Jiyeon will play the female lead to Joonie’s male lead.

If you have watched KBS drama Jungle Fish 2, you will recognize how well these two work together. Add a little more fun with Gag-woman Jung Juri playing a supportive role as Nanette the frog… If you have seen the variety show Idol Army Season 5, then you know what a great relationship Juri and Joonie have. Oh yeah, Juri just LOVES our Joonie!

I wonder if Joonie dyed his hair for this role….nawwww, he won’t be seen anyway as it’s a voice-over. But isn’t he looking pixie-ish? Very fitting. kekekekekek ^.~

Enjoy!

Enjoy these BTV entertainment news reports from when Rain was in Beijing last week, announcing his The BEST Rain 2011 concert tour and accepting his new position as honorary ambassador/protector of China’s environment.

The first one in particular is cute… a reporter prepares for and carries out what might have been the plummest assignment of her career up to that point.

Good for her! 🙂

Sepang International Circuit, 3/11/2011 —

The F1 post-race concert featuring Rain on April 10 will be open for free for all Grandstand ticket holders of the 2011 Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix; but those with Hillstand tickets will need to top up by RM138 to catch the superstar’s performance.

However, in conjunction with the on-going F1 Carnival in Kuala Lumpur, race promoter Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will be offering a special combined ticket for access at both the F1 race and the 2011 Malaysia Grand Prix Concert Rain Live at RM200 for seats at the covered Hillstand C2…

…Razlan also announced that SIC would be offering 20 back stage passes, which fans could win through a contest to be announced by the organizers soon.

“For all these exciting details, fans should check us on Facebook as well as updates on our website,” he said, adding that the post-race concert would start immediately after the F1 race podium ceremony with a fashion show by STYLO and featuring the finalists of Malaysia’s Ford Model Search Supermodel of the World. It would then be followed by a top local artist before Rain would take centrestage.

Born to the name Jun-Ji Hoon on June 25, Rain is a multi-talented artist whose musical career included seven albums. In 2004, he won the KBS excellence award in acting for his role in a drama series Full House, which is screened outside Korea. He acted in American films Speed Racer in 2008 and Ninja Assassin in 2009 and is the first Korean to win an MTV award.

Rain would be bringing his own dance team and fans can expect a sensational show by the pop star…

Oh, my word! I am striving mightily to be objective and professional and writerly, but JiHoon looks so good here (as I KNEW he would) that it’s just not working. So I give up.

Not to mention, this takes me right back to my father’s career Air Force days and our amazing life in the service when I was very young.

Men in uniform… JiHoon in uniform… Woahhhh!

‘Red Muffler’ team where Rain belongs meets the Air Force Chief of Staff

On Wednesday, March 9th, 2011, the Air Force Chief of Staff met the officials of movie ‘Red Muffler’ and their party (Jung Ji Hoon, Shi Se Kyung, etc.), and had a chat with them before beginning filming in earnest.

The Chief encouraged them, “The original ‘Red Muffler’ released 47 years ago represented young people’s romance at that time, and it is remembered as the symbol of the Air Force up until today. I expect you to strive to perform your duties more and to make a strong and impressive showing as honorary air forces while taking pride in what you are acting in the movie.”

Oh, how cute are these two?

There is no doubt that the boys of Chinese Pop group Top Combine are HUGE Rain fans! I swear, I thought I heard a squeeeeee!

No translation was needed when Eunsung (a.k.a. Xiao Wu/a.k.a. Tanas) was describing Rain’s height and fashion. When Caesar saw Rain walk by, he became speechless—hand over mouth speechless. So cute!  Rain has fanboys!

I’m also sure it was nice for both Korean-born Eunsung and Rain to be able to compare notes on performing in China. What a great video!

A brief translation of the interview portion can be found here in our previous post.

Enjoy!

TV Edaily/Nate News, 3/9/2011 — [English translation by rain bird @Rain Europe]

A nice picture that presents Rain and Seven together is released

A picture showing that both Rain and Seven are friendly posing for the camera, was released through Twitter on the 9th, which attracted the attention.

In the picture, the two are looking at the camera, linking each of their arms with a doll dressing up as a chicken.

Netizens were amused at the picture, “The two in the picture look really cool..Just looking at it makes my heart flutter.” “I want to be that doll shaped like a chicken.”

And so what is Cloud USA‘s response to these fun poultry pickings?

JIHOON! WE HAVE A BIG CHICKEN, TOO. SO COME VISIT.

That is its actual name: The Big Chicken. And it sits above one of the most famous Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in the country, in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta. This 48-year-old historical landmark is so HUGE and well known that not only drivers, but pilots flying into Atlanta and Dobbins Air Reserve Base, down the road, navigate by it.

So… come and take a picture with our Big Chicken, Rain. (We know you like your poultry Southern-fried now—you dropped that tidbit in an interview a while back.) We’ll even ask Se7en to meet you here, if you’d like.

That’s what we’re squawkin’ about. 😛
