Truly, this is one thing that happened during Rain’s Back To The Basic mini-album comeback that we’ll never forget watching. You can file it in the ever-expanding folder entitled Is There Anything Rain Can’t Do?
On the afternoon of March 28th, 2010, Rain and four of his fabulous hyungs (SungTak, SooBong, Gori, and Hongshi) went on a mission called the Keep The Promise Project (for KBS 2′s TV show “Seung Seung Jang Goo”, or On The Up and Up, or Win Win) and went mano a mano with five real university wrestlers in the center of Seoul’s MyungDong area, as more than 1000 people looked on. When he challenged the public before the event (if I do this, what will you do?), one viewer said he would show up like a cow and another promised she would play “Rainism” on a traditional instrument while wearing hanbok. And it was on like Donkey Kong.
To everyone’s delight, Rain came, saw, and conquered. He won every match he had and plumb tuckered himself out. That was some determination, I tell you. The wrestlers were mortified. LOL! The bull looked quite confused. The fan cams that came out of this were amazing. (One Cloud was close enough to get a cam of his armpit. LOL)
ChangMo, also born in 1982, debuted in 2004 and specializes in Rhythm & Blues and ballads. He has released a slew of albums and, like crooner Kim JongKook, is well known for his muscles and beautiful falsetto voice. At least four (if not more) of his songs have ended up on K-drama OSTs (original soundtracks), which tells me he definitely knows what he’s doing. He enlisted in the ROK Army in November 2011, the month after Rain reported for duty.
Perhaps that’s why Rain and KCM are so easy-going and have so much rapport in the DJ booth—they have a lot more in common than their birth year.
It really made me grin when I ran across this fun Blast from 2005, when KCM did his own cutesy version of Rain’s hit song “It’s Raining”. Love it. What a smile! And if we know Rain, poor ChangMo had a detailed critique coming after that performance. LOL!
Congratulations on your radio show, you two! Keep doing what you do, and take it to No. 1 in the ratings! (Wow, fans, can we stand it? All of that double delectable handsomeness on the mic every Saturday and Sunday! Christmas has come early this year.) 🙂

“Promise”, from KCM’s album Expresso (2009), is also on K-Drama East of Eden‘s OST and is my favorite KCM song. Expresso itself has been described by many as soul-stirring. Give it a listen sometime. ^@@^

Rain is over one-third of the way into his military service! How about them apples, huh? 🙂
As of this moment (5/18 @8:03 am EST), 5205 yellow ribbons for Rain have been added to Twitter and Facebook icons all over the world (of which our suave Ko SooBong is one)! Keep spreading the word, everyone. JiHoon deserves every ribbon in the Brigade and then some, don’t you agree?
There are two options for sending snail-mail to JiHoon presently. For information on where to send handwritten cards and letters to him, please see our previous post HERE (military). For cards, letters, and gifts, do see our post HERE (office admin).

[Rain] &[KCM] :
Rain & KCM’s 질주본능 (The Desire To Speed)~
Not only the fragrance of lilac blossoms but also the sweet smell of my shampoo fills the air, but why not try to retain a personal touch in our show?
1:10~2:18
[KCM]: Excluding the scent of a flower, what kind of smell do you like best?
[Rain] : I love the smell of sweat. (laughter)
[KCM] : I often yearn for the smell of our barrack when I go out and come back late at night (laughter)
[Rain] : Our barrack has an unusual odor, which makes me think of my uncle’s smell in my childhood days. (laughter) The odor from the place is almost enough to knock me out, so I spray a perfume on my body all the time and wash my combat uniform everyday not to let them saturated with such smell.
[KCM]: It has had such a smell for a long time, so I think it’s hard to overpower it.
2:19~3:43
-They say that ‘Lee Dae Hwa’, a music reviewer, and ‘Kim Jae Wook’, a PR soldier, will appear in part one and two of the show, respectively.
When I’m rolling in my Escalade Hyundai and listening to my very favorite songs of all time, these are the sounds from my playlist—whether he did an occasional cover or matched the vibe—that I think would have Rain lighting up our airwaves like a Christmas tree. (JiHoon, are you listening?)
What’s on your fantasy Rain playlist, dear fans? Why?
This is for my aunt, who thought I was playing a Maxwell song until the Korean words started sinking in. (She screamed so loud, I thought she’d busted my eardrum.) Of course I had to get her ALL of Rain’s songs so she would leave me in peace.
#4. Guy/Aaron Hall ~ Goodbye Love. (Video: 94kingbrown@YT)
Rain leans into the mic as if his heart is breaking. “Baby… bye-bye, baby…” Everyone bum-rushes the stage.
#5. Guy/Aaron Hall ~ Piece Of My Love. (Video: kbarro07 @YT)
Rain: “You can’t have all of me… ’cause I’m not totally free…” Audience: “Wanna bet money?!” Bum-rush.
#6. Bee Gees ~ Love Me. (Video: karlospatriot @YT)
Put this in Rain’s vocal range and SWOOOOOOOON away. He’s so good at those “Please come back to me, girl” songs.
The proof, as they say, is in the pudding: “Because Of You” from his second album released in Japan, Eternal Rain (2006).
Just put him on stage in his BEST Show funkadelic clothes with this one and he’ll be shaking that tambourine, working that hip, doing the Onion, skipping around and puttin’ stank on it in no time. The man loves to have fun up there. You know this. *coughBusanWomancough* 🙂
Proof. Pudding. “Busan (Seoul) Woman” from Rain’s The BEST Show Korea national tour (2011). Excellent fan cam, B4marie1…!
Escuela D1 de Vania Masias is a dance school in Lima, Peru where students learn Hip Hop, Break Dance, Jazz, Dance Air, Ballet, and a whole lot more.
At a Hallyu mania event/K-Pop festival, students in D1’s K-Pop classes covered Rain, MBLAQ, and other artists like TVXQ, B.A.P. and F(X), and had flash mobs to boot. Frankly, it doesn’t matter that no one (anywhere on the planet) can do it quite like Rain… the fact that these young men admire Rain and MBLAQ enough to do their best covering them for their school simply wins our hearts. Their enthusiasm is infectious! ♥ Not to mention the total support that the Rain and MBLAQ fans gave them as they performed—bravo! 🙂
This is pure fun and fan love at its best, folks. ^@@^
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you, from all of us here at Cloud USA.
With Stephe’s mother’s recent passing, this is a particularly difficult time for us. Still, we did not want to let this day go by without sending a thank you to all of the mothers out there who will always and forever mean so very much to us.
English Lyrics of I Can’t Get Used To (Familiar) [익숙치 않아서 – Igsugchi Anh-aseo]
Today, I met you by chance.
That person who I had heard about was there with you.
I was so surprised, because there was a smile on your face,
A smile that had never been there when you were with me.
I guess I seemed pathetic to you, so lonely and sad.
There were tears in my eyes,
So, you asked me why I was crying, why I was hurting so much.
I…tried to lie to you, but when I saw you looking at me, I couldn’t help myself.
All the words that were in my heart spilled out.
I’m…going to bed alone, waking up alone,
Eating meals alone, I can’t get used to that.
I’m…liking things alone, feeling sad alone,
I can’t get used to that, I can’t get used to that.
Why can’t I forget you?
Even now, if I think of you, tears fill my eyes.
Enough time has passed for me to forget about you,
So, why can’t I forget you even after all this time?
There was a time before we met, when I lived alone.
I say to myself that I’ll try to go back to that time.
But then, all I see is the empty space that you left behind.
I’m…going to bed alone, waking up alone,
Eating meals alone, I can’t get used to that.
I’m…liking things alone, feeling sad alone,
I can’t get used to that, I can’t get used to that.
I’m…going to bed alone, waking up alone,
Eating meals alone, I can’t get used to that.
I’m…liking things alone, feeling sad alone,
I can’t get used to that, I can’t get used to that…

English Lyrics of It’s Raining
JYP:
Yo! Rain is back!
We’re gonna do it one more time!
2004! JYP is coming back!
Are you ready?!
Rain:
When the lights land on me,
When I’m on the stage I’ve returned to,
Little by little, I’m…(Ssss ahhh, ssss ahhh.)
When people are shouting out my name,
Little by little, I’m…(Ssss ahhh, ssss ahhh.)
When the intense music explodes in my body,
In my ear there’s…(Rain! Go, Rain! It’s Raining! It’s Raining!)
When the ready to burst speaker’s noise wakes me,
In my ear there’s…(Rain! Go, Rain! It’s Raining! It’s Raining!)
Now, oh! Let the music control my body!
As if I’ve left my arms and legs in the music,
Let it go, with the way that my body moves,
Just like that.
Oh! Let my body talk to the music!
You know what the people are waiting for.
You know what they want.
Now, show them all!
When my heart beats, as if it’s gonna burst,
Little by little I’m…(Ssss ahhh, ssss ahhh.)
I can feel the blood in my body
Getting hotter. Oh!(Ssss ahhh, ssss ahhh.)
When I close my eyes as the music rises,
In my ear there’s…(Rain! Go, Rain! It’s Raining! It’s Raining!)
When an unbearable thrill explodes in my body,
In my ear there’s…(Rain!
Stop! Just scream!
Come on, yo!
(Dance break)
Come on, yo!
Oh! Let the music control my body. (Let it move my body!)
As if I’ve left my arms and legs in the music,
Let it go, with the way that my body moves,
Just like that.
Oh! Let my body talk to the music, (Oh oh oh oh oh oh!)
You know what the people are waiting for.
You know what they want.
Now, show them all.
Come on, yo!
Yeah!

JiHoon’s foot probably nags him because he’s constantly on it, the weather, etc., but it can’t be all that bad. A few days later, he danced his butt off on the Consolatory Train. Just sayin’.

Rain Participates in Children’s Day Event on Army Base
Rain might be a military man now, but he′s still got a soft spot for kids.
On the blog of Defense Agency for Public Information Services, a picture, uploaded on May 7, showed Rain, Park Hyo Shin, Yoo Seung Chan, KCM, and other Public Information Service workers participating in the ‘Children’s Day National Defense Family Invitation Event.′
Due to a foot injury, Rain wasn’t able to perform at the event on May 5, but instead, he went on stage to give presents and hugs to the children.
Held in auditorium of the Ministry of National Defense, the event invited 600 children and 1400 family members, including the employees and children living on base, families on welfare, and multicultural families.
The event started with Public Information Service worker and comedian, Lee Jin Ho’s presiding, and continued with performances by KCM, Park Hyo Shin, Yoo Seung Chan, and Untouchable’s Sleepy. With Rain also appearing on stage, the star-studded Children’s Day event was a complete success.

How Much Does Rain Receive a Month In the Military?
The answer? Far, far less than what he used to earn as a singer.
On May 8, in Gyeonggi-do’s Euijeongbu 306, Rain took part in the ‘2012 Military Newly Recruit Welcoming Festival’ to help usher in the new army draftees.
During a Q&A session, one new recruit boldly asked the singer, “How much is your fortune worth?” to which Rain responded, “I’m sorry, but I’d like to ask that you only ask questions related to the military.”
To this, the event’s MC, comedian Lee Jin Ho, said, “I believe Rain earns 80,000 Won (about 70 U.S. dollars) a month.”
Regarding the standard military pay Rain then told the new draftees, “Actually there’s not a lot of places to use that money. You’ll probably use it a lot at the PX (Post Exchange- the army’s supply store).”
Rain also shared on his current thoughts saying, “It’s been exactly eight months since I entered [my service] here and my heart feels anew.”
The ‘Military Newly Recruit Welcoming Festival’ is an event done by the Korean government to help welcome new draftees and to express thanks to their families.

Hello, all. About an hour and some change ago, I finished listening to the first installment of PFC JiHoon/Rain and KCM’s new two-hour radio show 질주본능 (Speeding Instinct), which will be airing from Seoul every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 pm KST (here in Atlanta, that’s Friday nights from 11 pm to 1 am EST) on 96.7 Friends FM military radio.
Rain and KCM had great rapport, and the music they were spinning between segments was awesome (songs by PSY, Sistar, JYP, Pitbull and Neyo, and MBLAQ, to name a few). PSY and MBLAQ called in and chatted for a bit. Talk about a sweet treat, regardless of whether or not I could understand them. I couldn’t have cared less! ♥ Many Clouds from all over the world (Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Peru, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Romania, Philippines, Venezuela, Canada, and across the USA) were with me on Twitter and listening in too, and sending encouraging tweets to the show’s official Twitter (질주본능 / speeding967 @Twitter). What a fun time.
The show sounded like a resounding success where my ears were concerned, but the jury is out for the moment until an English translation hopefully becomes available.
Congrats, JiHoon. You had said that you hoped to find your niche as a radio DJ, and this show just might be the ticket.
(You can see the Eoullim Blog’s post on the broadcast HERE. Be sure to go down the page to the little blue and white finger on the little blue button and CLICK it so that you “like” the page and give Rain and KCM love. Thanks!)

Oh, oh, OH how wonderful! Do enjoy this, dear fans, Rain (and Se7en) in early December 2004 at the Golden Disk Awards on SBS.
As usual, Magic Feet snatched up yet another award. LOVE the outfit; that hat is killer. And I’ve always luuurved JiHoon’s hair in those cornrows because they were so beautifully done and he made them look great. Just as I wear my hair however I want to no matter where the style comes from, all I require of a person’s braided hair is that it’s on point. And his was. Not to mention my very first glimpse of him in life was on TV in those ‘rows. Talk about getting my attention. I had to know who this “Rain” person was and how such uniqueness could possibly exist. ^@@^

Anyway, it is an honor to be with you, and the divisional commander, the assistant division commander, the chief of staff, our senior soldiers, etc, I am grateful to you for your help. Also, I’ll do my best to be a good soldier.
