My niece Gheeric Rose (Ga) and I were already in Seoul for our annual vacation, when we learned that Rain would participate in the patriotic concert in Yong in, Gyeonggi-do.
(May 30) Wednesday being our fifth day, we decided not to follow our itinerary for the day, and decided to proceed to Yongin, Gyeonggido at around 11:30 am. Unaware of the exact location of the concert, we merely depended on the map we were holding, given by the goodhearted manager of the hotel we were staying at.
So we arrived in Yongin City proper, around 2 pm (KST). Since it was already lunch time, weโd had our lunch (simple-light lunch) first at Tours Les Jours, in front of Myeongji University, the supposed route of the shuttle service to the actual venue of the concert.
We stayed there until 5 pm, only to be disappointed because we missed the shuttle service provided by the 3rd Field Army Headquarters. I was getting upset already since the patriotic concert would start at 7 pm, and we barely had 1 hour to go there and locate the place.
My niece, determined as she is, called a taxi cab and showed the poster to the driver-ahjussi. Luckily the driver knew the exact place and took us there. In 15 minutes, we found the venue.
People โ soldiers, family, friends, and civilians like us or maybe fans, were already gathered when we arrived. We were seated at the 6th row, a place which was not too far, and not too close to the stage. Looking around, we saw Rainโs dancers walking around the area. To make the long story short, the program started. There were performers such as Davichi, Hello Venus, KCM and Min Kyunghoon, to name a few. Their numbers were all warmly applauded by the audience.
Towards the closing, and I should say the highlight of the show, Rain appeared with his 4 dancers, wearing a gray jacket, a brown hat, glasses, and a blue maong pants which made him the cutest and the hottest performer that night. He was the most applauded and warmly welcomed performer that night. To me, he was a sight to behold, I was speechless for a while, and I donโt know what happened that I suddenly found myself in front of the line, I must have crawled in front of the line without me knowing, when it was Rainโs turn to perform. I kept on shouting his name… RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! together with others.
When it was the performersโ turn to bow down to the audience as the show ended, we kept on shouting Rainโs name again, which caught the attention of the officer, standing in front of Rain on the stage. The officer pointed us out to Rain, and in turn, Rain waved his hands and smiled at us. That was so lovely and sweet of him. That time I was standing in front of the line, and very close to the stage, where Rain was standing.
Rain, as usual, looking so great, brought the house down with his two song numbers, โHip Song and Itโs Rainingโ. Even though it was just two songs… I could feel his passion for his music, and his performance was outstanding… I was star-struck again. Heโs so gorgeous, so tall, his physique is well-built, he was so bubbly that night and so full of confidence that I could only say to myself – This guyโs indeed born to be a STAR. With his presence, he lit up the whole night as if the BRIGHTEST STAR was shining on us. I considered myself very lucky, having seen him again in person after two years. It was indeed a blessing that I will always cherish. It was an answered prayer.
In my mind and in my heart, there will always be one person, nearest and dearest to my heart whom I shall love forever until the day I dieโฆ RAIN.

Well, after many months of mulling it over, I finally decided to bite the bullet and sign up for Spotify.ย The first thing I did, of course, was search for Rain songs.ย I didn’t expect much, but to my utter shock and awe I discovered quite a few of his songs listed!ย What the heck?ย I quickly created a Rain (Bi) playlist and I’ve been playing his songs like mad ever since. :-}
For those of you who don’t know, Spotify is a Swedish company that offers digitally restricted streaming of a selection of music from both major and independent record labels all over the world.ย It is a relatively low-priced subscription-based service that also offers a limited amount of free listening for people who don’t want to pay for the service.ย (Currently, Spotify is offering an unlimited listening trial period, but in the past they have limited plays. Check out their current terms of service for yourself.)
The difference between Spotify and sites like iTunes and Amazon.com, etc., is that Spotify is a “pay-per-play” streaming service.ย If I buy a song from iTunes for .99 cents, then it is mine forever, to play as many times as I wish.ย The artist gets no further compensation from me, even if I play that song thousands of times.
On the other hand, if I listen to that same song on Spotify 206 times (or if 206 fans play the song 1 time each), then the artist gets paid .99 cents (assuming that the pay-per-play rate is $0.0048 cents per playโthe rate varies per contractual agreements made with labels).ย If I listen to that song 206 more times, then the artist gets another .99 cents.ย And so on and so forth.ย (Note: In Europe, Spotify also sells downloads of playlists, but they don’t do that yet here in the U.S.)
The main issue I see with this “pay-to-play” model is that unless an artist has a humongous fan-base (or a small over-zealous fan-base) who will listen to their songs over and over again on Spotify, then they probably won’t make much money by having their songs listed there.ย However, Spotify’s cool features (building playlists, carrying the music wherever you go via your smartphone, etc.) are becoming extremely popular with the younger set here in the U.S.

ost every young person I know already pays to have Spotify on their smartphone, so they can take their music everywhere they go.ย So, the potential exposure Spotify is likely to provide to artists in the future should not be discountedโif the company manages to survive its infancy, of course.ย In my humble opinion, for now, artists would be smart to simply consider Spotify one of their many revenue streams and be done with it, rather than worrying about how much they are or are not getting paid.
In any event, right now Rain’s songs are registering absolutely no popularity at all on Spotify.ย You heard right.ย Zero.ย Zilch.ย Zip.ย I imagine that is probably because very few people know his songs are there.ย So, Clouds, please go sign up viaย Spotify’s Sign-Up Page and start playing his songs.ย Then, go tell everyone you know to sign up and play them too.
Rain’s change purse will thank you.ย ๐

Super Junior, Rain, Big Bang, & 2PM Appear in Thai Textbooks
It turned out that CN Blue wasnโt the only one to appear in a Thai textbook! Along with the popular band, Super Junior, Rain, Big Bang, and 2PM were also mentioned in music textbook in Thailand.
Published in a third year high school music text book, Super Juniorโs picture was included inside, as well as the tidbit, โSingers who held the most popular concert in Thailand.โ
Super Junior had visited Bangkok in March to hold its concert tour, Super Show 4, which set a record for the most audience members for a foreign artist.
In the second year high school music text book, Rain was introduced as โA very influential artist to society,โ referring to Rain winning in Time magazineโs โ100 Most Influential Peopleโ polls many times.
Also mentioned in Thai textbooks were 2PMโs Nichkhun, who was introduced as the Korean artist who shared a new genre of music to Thailand. Big Bang was shown in a middle school text book as Asiaโs trademark artist.
With more and more K-pop stars appearing in textbooks abroad, it seems to be a confirmation that the popularity of K-Pop is still spreading throughout the world.

For a portion of his enlistment, actor Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince, One Fine Day, Big, etc.) served as a VJ for the Korean Forces Network show Best Music. This clip is from January 2009, when Yoo presented Rain’s MV/short film “Love Story” as a best music choice. Yoo finished his enlistment and was discharged in December 2009.

Oh, and for folks out there who may be about to have a cow because they think Rain is mean to KCM, just cool your jets. It’s all an act that they’re both in on. Like Tom and Jerry. Rain Tweets a Series of Youthful Self Pictures

Rainโs agency has tweeted a series of self pictures of the singer actor from his recent military leave.
On May 15, the Rainy Entertainment Twitter tweeted, โA surprise present for everyone. Rain took the pictures ^^ This is for everyone.โ
The pictures showed Rain in casual wear, glasses and a cap hiding his buzz cut. The series showed Rain expressing a number of different expressions and the pictures were taken while Rain was organizing his closet.
Netizens commented on the photos saying, โWhat cute picturesโ, โIs this really a recent picture? He looks so young!โ and โI think he got younger in the army.โ

Wow, seemed like there were more than the Fabulous 5 on stage this time! Could it be that we were watching the Fabulous 7 again? Have SangQ and/or YongDeock rejoined the fray? I wish! (I could swear I saw SangQ, but there was too much darkness, too many pyros, and NO shots of Rain and the Men dancing side by side. Love Rain to death, and truly appreciate the cams, but it is okay to widen the shot at least once so folks can see the stage. Really, it is. :/)
