“The Best” tour successfully completed. Originally, I didn’t want to write Dresden fans account because it’s not updated news anymore. However, many sweet memories kept flowing in my mind. Just wanted to share with someone. I arrived Dresden on the 17th around 2pm. Vogler was on the same flight with me though. I didn’t know until I saw him at baggage claim section. He looked younger than the picture…haha. I was not sure if he was Vogler until I saw his exclusive MCM cello case. I walked towards him and tried to introduce myself.
“Are you Vogler?”
“Yes, I am.”
“I am Rain’s New York fan, I come for your and Rain’s concert on the 19th.”
Vogler said “Oh! From New York. I just came back from New York too. You only come for his concert, you are a real fan.”
I said “I am so curious about the concert. How can classical and pop music perform together?”
Vogler said “Rain and I will have our own parts. Then perform together. The bridge will be very amazing.”
I said “I can’t wait to see the concert. Is there any press conference before concert?”
Vogler said “I don’t think so. By the way, I don’t think Rain arrived Dresden yet.”
I said “Really! I heard that Rain has already arrived Dresden.”
He said “I don’t think so.”
His baggage came out and I was still waiting for my bag. After he left, I suddenly remembered that I should ask for autograph and photo. How stupid I am?
The connected flight of my Holland friend was delayed 2 hours. I had no choice and got to wait for her in airport. Dresden airport is very small, the ground floor is arrival and the second floor is departure. I went up and down and thinking about the day when Rain left Dresden.
About 7pm, I and my friend checked in hotel. At the lobby, I saw Rain’s manager. Oh! Did Rain stay in this hotel too? Did he arrive yet? However, Holland friend said he just sent message on twitter few hours ago. It looked like he was still in Seoul.
Dresden was a beautiful and quiet city. Our hotel was located near Semperoper and most of the tourists attraction. The hotel lobby is very small and there is only one glass elevator. How nice? I believed that it gives me more chances to see Rain.
Next day, we had more accurate information about Rain’s arrival time. Japanese fans said someone saw him in Frankfurt airport. My German friend arrived 4 hours before Rain’s flight. So, I told her waiting for us at airport. Holland friend and I took taxi airport. There were about 15 Japanese fans waiting for Rain; his flight was estimated to arrive at 9:25pm. Time flies, more fans including few German Cloud had arrived at airport. All these Asian faces alerted other Dresden citizen, they asked fans who we were waiting for…movie star something. Fans told them that we were waiting for a Korean superstar, Rain, who would perform with German famous cellist tomorrow.
Finally, we saw dancers and staffs appeared in baggage claim area. 15 minutes later, our prince finally appeared. He wore black hot, dark color jacket, grey color tees, black slim pants and roman style scandals. He wore sunglasses too. I didn’t stay near the first row. Per my experience, fans would jump to him when he arrived. I rather stepped back a little bit in order to see him clearly. Also, I tried to record the video. Not sure how I could walk backwardly…haha…but I did it very well this time. I faced to Rain (very closed), and held my camera walking backward. He occasionally turned his face to me. This fancam was one of the best video I had ever taken.
The best was nobody screaming although about 5-6 Japanese fans couldn’t wait to ask for handshakes from Ji Hoon while he exited from customs. Otherwise, all fans were following him to him. Nobody blocked my view.
I and my two friends (German and Holland) took taxi back to hotel. We were not in a hurry though because we realized that Rain stayed in our hotel. (Later, per my German friend said Rain originally should stay in other hotel, but he decided to stay with his dancers and staffs in same hotel). After an hour, our prince probably took a shower and changed clothes. He wore orange color long sleeves sweat shirt and black three quarter length pants. “Orange” color – wow…he probably wanted to make sure we wouldn’t lose him in the evening. Fans were waiting for him in front of hotel. Only 2 Japanese fans tried to follow him but he turned back and gave them signal “Please don’t follow.” OK! We understood. He needed some private time to have dinner with his staff and dancers. My eyes (what a wonderful eyes, my friend said) followed his shadow till he sat down on the outdoor table about 200 meters from us. Most of restaurants serve outdoor tables in Dresden. I and other fans decided to have our café and waited for him outside our hotel. Rain had about 2 hours dinner. Between the time, I joined other 2 fans sitting somewhere about 5 tables from his. He drank 2 glasses of beer and chatted happily with his dancers. They even took pictures to each other. About midnight, Rain went back to hotel, then we also returned to our hotel room.
My hotel room was on the 4th floor and Rain was on the 5th. The 6th floor was restaurant for breakfast. Around 9am, I got ready to have my breakfast with my Holland friend. I pressed the button and waited for the elevator. I didn’t stand in front the elevator door, instead I was on the side. Suddenly, I looked up…Oh! Rain was inside the elevator. Rain wore blue suit. He was ready to go out (later, I realized that he had a photo section with Vogler). The elevator stopped on our floor, elevator door opened. One Korean fans stood in front of the door, she bowed and said “good morning” to Rain. He nodded his head. What a nice morning…I got a feeling it would be a lucky day.
We took our time to have breakfast. Originally, we decided to go around the area. When we exited the hotel, other Rain fans told me that Rain has already returned to hotel…wowow…how’s quick he is? Then, we had no choice, of course, we would love to wait for our prince. He wore blue jeans, sunglasses and panther pattern shirt (rolled up the sleeves). He came out with his 5 dancers (all guys). OH! Where do you want to go? They walked no far away and took pictures with each others. Then, they kept walking…well…we had no choice again…haha…let’s walk. However, we kept distance and in different direction. We tried our best to give Ji hoon some privacy.
They finally reached the shopping mall. Rain firstly entered into “Apple” store, then went to the 2nd floor (he bought something from ZARA), 1st floor and basement. They basically went through all stores. While Ji Hoon was shopping inside the store, fans would shop other stores nearby or sat on the bench waiting for him. Everybody did his/her own thing, then joined together while Ji Hoon was ready to walk…haha..isn’t it amazing? The happy shopping activity was lasted almost one and an hour. While Rain walked back to hotel, there were some German fans found him and asked for autographs. Rain signed all of them. After that, Rain had lunch at restaurant right next to the hotel, still outdoor table. Rain picked an Asian restaurant and it serves sushi, Chinese noodles and other South East Asian style dishes.
There were 3 set of tables, Rain sat on the outer set of table which was near the pedestrian way. Some fans approached him and asked for autographs and handshakes. Rain happily did all for them. I decided to go back to hotel room and got “Back to the Basics album” and “Time 100 magazine” for him to sign. I walked slowly toward Rain. In fact, I looked at him before I decided to walk to him. He looked at me and gave me signal to come over. I prepared 2 color permanent marker for him to sign. He signed “Back to the Basics” in silver color, then I told him “ Hold on.” Then, I gave him purple color pen. Then , he signed on Time 100 magazine. At that time, Ji Hoon didn’t wear sunglasses at all. We were closed to each other. He sat on the armed chair and I stood next to him. One dancer was opposite side of him and other was next to him.
I said “Do you know I am your New York fan?” [Please don’t ask me why I asked this question. I don’t know either….just some words from my mind]
Ji Hoon sat back and looked at me with his eyes. We really looked at each other eyes. [Although this is not my first time to see him close, this is exclusive experience…so closed, no guards, nobody bothering us, no sunglasses…he was listening to my question carefully]
Then, he said “ah….New York.”
“Yes, we met.”
Thanks Ji Hoon. In fact, I didn’t prepare if you said “sorry! I don’t know.” I am not sure how I reacted if you said you are not sure. Later, my Singapore friend said that I was asking a question which has already had answer, she said that I just wanted to reconfirm the answer though. Honestly, I don’t know if she is right or wrong. It’s a wonderful moment between Ji Hoon and I. The answer probably is the critical part at all.
The concert was great! The bridge was amazing like what Vogler said. It’s full house and almost over 95% was non-Asian audiences. Rain sang 5 songs “Rainism”, “It’s Raining”, “Avoid the Sun”, “Love Song” (with Vogler), “Hip Song”. Between songs, he talked a lot. He said it’s honor to be invited to Dresden Music Festival. He said he was working on his Asian Tour, he completed Malaysia, Macau, Taiwan, and going to go Singapore, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Occasionally, Fans will scream “I love you.” Then, Rain would return with lovely smile. He wore light color suit. His sweat ran over his face but it didn’t cover his happiness. It likes a mini Rain concert. I screamed as other German fans, “Please come back”…

Cuckoo… thanks for this lovely fan account. I’m glad you decided to post one anyway, because it was a great read. It was so cool that you got to have that one on one time with him and his answer to you was really sweet. He’s such a nice guy.
My first thought on watching that video (of course) is that I was so happy he’s wearing cropped skinny pants and gladiator sandals. I have been a tad saddended that he’s been dressing so “normal” but there he goes being interesting again. Yay!

@Stephe…typo of “knocked his head”. The corrected one should be “he nod his head”

Waaaa ^^ You’re so lucky! 🙂 (I’m just one of these German fans that came over for some autographs 😀 Through I’m not german :D)… But I think there were more then just 5% of asian audience, don’t you think? Anyway I’m still really excited about it 🙂 And also the fact that there really were fans from around the whole world, so amazing ^^

Sister Cuckoo, thanks so very much, to be close enough and share eye to eye contact without fan or guard frenzy? So very nice. Awesome of JiHoon, he is such a cool person 🙂 Its so nice that everyone respected his personal space that he felt comfortable enough for you to have shared that moment. One other thing stood out for me, 95% NON-ASIAN! I’m sure that did for him as well I remember a part during this concert him singing and the audience were singing a long as well and he said something to the effect “you know Korean?” I shouldn’t really put that as a quote because I’m not sure his exact words. 😀

@ Lotus…
I know right? I wanted to be the one to be able to say, “Dude! Don’t you know soooo many people know at least a little Korean because of you??” I really wonder sometimes if he gets how famous he is in other non-asian countries. I mean, REALLY gets it?? It’s food for thought.
