At a recent K-Pop Festival in Turkey, our Cloud sisters put up an interactive Jung JiHoon Rain booth and had an absolute blast. Fans could pretend they were Rain’s BEST Show cover girl, dress up in fun BEST Show and “Fresh Woman” costumes or a Minnie Mouse bow, get information about Rain, and all sorts of other goodies, we’re sure. What a terrific idea.

As suggested by this previous post from November 2011, they make doggone sure to keep those massive Rain posters changed out regularly. I for one would love to see a video of them doing that. Goodness gracious. ^@@^

wallpaper_asteroid_small

Well, of course, netizens blame Rain. Even when he didn’t do a damned thing. It’s tradition.

If the Han River flowed backwards, they’d blame Rain. If the sky turned green, they’d blame Rain. If an asteroid hit the Earth, they’d blame Rain. “His dating of Kim TaeHee three times determined the course of the asteroid. He could have stopped the thing if he’d tried, but he shirked his responsibility for the asteroid and celebrity soldiers should be dissolved!” they’d whine from their collective keyboards like a barrel of howler monkeys. ROFL! Idiots.

Five hundred years from now, a new ROK recruit on Mars will accidentally crash his Rover into a crater, and the Korean Media will report that Rain’s risk of violating military rules back in 2013 has “once again come to the fore.” Because God forbid anybody be responsible for their own %#&!, ever. News 1 6/27/2013 — [English translation by 화니]

Rain’ll leave the army on July 10th as scheduled

While Sangchu and Seven went to a massage parlor, Rain went straight to the lodging.

Singer Rain (his real name, Jung Ji-Hoon), who is the senior of entertainment soldiers Seven (Choi Dong-Wook) and Sangchu (Lee Sang-Cheol), is going to be discharged from military service on July 10th as scheduled.

Defense Media Agency officials said on the 27th, “Sergeant ‘Jung Ji-Hoon’ is expected to be discharged from military service on July 10th as scheduled.” and “No specific changes have been made to the plan yet.”

Recently, it has been revealed that Sangchu and Seven went to a massage parlor, which has even made Rain the subject of criticism. Rain participated in a concert in Chuncheon city with the two.

Rain’s excessive outing for dating his lover ‘Kim Tae-Hee’ was controversial last January, and thereafter, he was placed under a probation period of one week by reason of his being in breach of military rules.

As Sangchu and Seven has caused the scandal this time, the issue that shows Rain was willing to date ‘Kim Tae-Hee’ and take a risk of violating the military rules, has once again come to the fore.

Some netizens are laying the blame on Rain, responding to Sangchu and Seven’s scandal, “Rain should have been set an example for his juniors ‘Sangchu’ and ‘Seven’ to follow”, “What will Sangchu and Seven learn by watching Rain manage his juniors poorly?”, etc.

It is rumored that Rain dated ‘Kim Tae-Hee’ on the 21st when Sangchu and Seven went to a massage parlor, but the rumor has been found to be untrue.

The Defense Media Agency side expressed, “Corporal ‘Jung Ji-Hoon’ went straight to the lodging immediately after he just had dinner in a restaurant. He is very careful in everything not to cause trouble because the discharge date is not far off.”

[from Stephe’s desk] MassageParlor-gate: Once again, Rain’s name gets thrown into a news story just for ratings. LMAO!

•June 26, 2013 • 36 Comments

bottomfeeder

Oh, for the love of Chuck. Let me see if I can get these points out about this new “celebrity soldier” debacle, in between laughs.

1. Let me get this straight. The Korean Media and well known K-Pop portals have a video showing that Rain is NOT INVOLVED AT ALL in the massage parlor shakedown, and yet they throw his name in their stories and headlines anyway because, well, it’s just good press? Rain’s name sells newspapers, yeah? Rain’s name brings netizens slithering up out of their holes, right? So what if the man didn’t do anything. So what if he only showed up for mere seconds in the footage to get one of the guys and leave after dinner. So what if he got in trouble for spying for the North getting three rides back to his post from his girlfriend and didn’t wear his hat when nobody else wore their hat either, last week a whole six months ago. Throw him in there.

And you wonder why we don’t believe a thing you bottom-feeders say half the time. Just leave Rain alone, how about that.

(Clip courtesy of gapzzinza @YT.)

2. Let me get this straight. With some 650,000 active duty soldiers in the ROK military, a great many of them single men, people actually think that none of them go to massage parlors (or brothels, for that matter) on the regular? ROFLMAO! Soldiers of every nationality and Houses of Questionable Reputation have gone hand in hand well before the pyramids were even built in Egypt. Get real. Soldiers go and get relief on the Down Low, folks, from the highest Brass down to the lowliest peon, in every division, corps, wing, brigade, and platoon across the board. It keeps mutinies and uprisings at bay—check your history books. And remember, the military is run by men. Hello.

Sangchu and Se7en weren’t caught doing anything that ordinary soldiers don’t do all the time. We’ve heard exactly that—from some ordinary soldiers’ relatives over there. Reporters don’t bother to follow Private John Q. Ordinary because it wouldn’t get them ratings. Celebrity privilege, my eye. Ain’t no privilege to it, if everybody’s gettin’ some.

3. Let me get this straight. I’m supposed to be outraged because the Director of the show was nice enough to thank the soldiers for their participation with a brief, no-frills, after-party dinner with drinks? If I’m petty, maybe, seeing as that same thing (including the soju and beer) happens on base in every division, corps, wing and platoon, yada yada, you know where I’m going with that. And you know they had to have permission if they were in civilian clothes. You know that, so why make it an issue? Why begrudge somebody getting something to eat? Seriously?

Rain Drinking! the headlines scream. Rain and KCM drinking! Holy $#%! Ordinary soldiers drink, too. In civilian clothes. After work. Sometimes on duty. Rain could ride a camel and it would be an outrage to you. We’re so over it.

4. I certainly wouldn’t have advised Se7en and Sangchu to go where they went, no way! (Doesn’t dude have a girlfriend?) But with neither of them being married and it not being illegal, no sense in me going BSC on them for it. (He’s going to get enough hell from his girl and his fans.) Frankly, if such businesses weren’t opened in the first place, they wouldn’t have been there. And the truth of it is, as obvious as it may be, unless we were all in their back pockets or something, we don’t know what they did in there for sure.

5. I’ll tell you what the nasty, scuzzy, disgusting part of the video was to me—watching those reporters scurrying around like rats in the dark, trying to sniff out trouble for people any way they could. They went to that military show with the express purpose of finding something, anything, to ruin a soldier, and skulked around for hours, filming and watching people without their knowledge (which is creepy as hell) like vultures waiting for an animal to fall down so they can swoop in and start eating it. I wanted to take a shower and wash the scuzz off myself by the time they finished.

“Are you a celebrity, or are you a soldier?” As if Mr. Reporter didn’t know the answer to that already, the self-righteous jerk. And the soldiers’ reactions to his guerrilla tactics were just so shocking to him. I don’t see why. He’s lucky he didn’t end up on the ground, running up on two guys in the dark like that and demanding answers. He should be ashamed of himself for making this a “celebrity soldier” problem when regular soldiers and higher ups are doing the same thing (and I’ll bet you he knows it, it’s just more important to enrage the public and stick it to the celebs).

6. Thanks, Rain, for being on your best behavior. Thumbs up.

7. Terri sends this message to the Media: “Why don’t you tail the Yakusa or some Mafia crime boss or some human traffickers and do some real reporting for once? Get some b@lls and stop running after celebrities who are scared to death of you because they know what kind of B.S. you’re capable of. Okay?” :-{

MBCRainNewYearsEve2004_CUSA

Do enjoy this nice, long look at when Rain participated in MBC’s 2004 New Year’s Eve song festival, and was one of the top 10 singers showcased.

(This clip might be from a Japanese broadcast, because there are voice-overs that are translating the Korean into Japanese in some spots.) I’m pretty sure I’ve Blasted a segment or two of this in the past, but never all together like this. Some goodies included here are a couple of BANGIN’ dance breaks, plus “Familiar Face” and “It’s Raining.”

Doesn’t that segment when Rain is running from the Po-pos, all dressed in white and leaping over a fence, remind you of “JiWoo” running from the Po-pos in The Fugitive: Plan B, all dressed in white and leaping over a fence? LOL, yep, I was flashing back!

[articles] Rain cleared embezzlement and malpractice after reinvestigation.

Thumb-up-icon

Well, of course.

He was cleared of it after the FIRST investigation, mind you. What in the world did the complainant think would come of a second investigation by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office? Rain’s J.Tune Creative modeling fees were not excessive in connection with his job. The man worked NONSTOP like a government mule.

Dude, please. When you invest in a business, that is just the gamble you take. Even Rain has lost crazy money in business, mostly due to the unscrupulous people who have come his way. Welcome to the real world. Move on with your life. ^@@^

Rain Acquitted of Malpractice Charges

Rain has been freed of all malpractice charges, coming loose from a case that involved billions of won.

On June 23, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors′ Office announced that “Rain, who was sued for bringing harm to a company after demanding billions of won for modeling fees as its main shareholder, was cleared of all charges following a reinvestigation.”

15819875

In April 2010, a businessman that traded in clothing sued Rain, saying that the singer, the biggest shareholder in a company the accuser invested in, received about 2.2 billion won as three years′ worth of modeling fees, bringing great harm to the company by receiving the excessive payment.

The reinvestigation took place for about two years, but the Prosecutors′ Office stated that no suspicions against Rain could be confirmed, and so Rain was not indicted.

Rain will be released from his military duties in July.

Innolife 6/23/2013 —

Prosecution cleared Rain of suspicion of embezzlement and malpractice

Prosecution cleared Rain (real name: Jeong Ji-Hoon) of suspicion on embezzlement of his company money after reinvestigation on it. Seoul central district prosecution announced that Jeong Ji-Hoon and people related to the company, who were charged of embezzlement and malpractice on a clothes company, were cleared of suspicion.

Prosecution said that they couldn’t find any evidence on the charge to prove the assertion of plaintiff. Jeong Ji-Hoon and other people related to the company were accused of paying gifts like clock for acquaintances with company money, getting money for model cost from company and etc.

Seoul central district prosecution once said, “Model cost is a very subjective matter, and there’s no will toward malpractice.” But because of appeal, they made a reinvestigation.

Today is a day that Clouds across the world are celebrating, seeing that at this moment (7:00 PM EST, June 24) it is already 8:00 AM the morning of June 25 in South Korea, which makes it 비 Rain’s birthday. And, alas, it has just come to my attention that it is also a day of sad, bittersweet, fun memories. The end of an icon.

According to the Incheon Airport Railroad Express AREX tourist site, the house where Rain and Song HyeKyo’s award-winning, history-making romantic comedy Full House (2004) was filmed was torn down this past April due to irreparable damage from a typhoon earlier this year.

Full House is one of the most successful TV dramas ever, with an average rating of 31.9% for every episode with peaks of 42.2%. Close to half of the population was tuning in to the broadcast by the time it reached the middle of its run, and as it continued on to China, Japan, Malaysia, İndonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, Singapore, and India, etc., the drama’s great success outside of Korea helped propel the Hallyu Wave that was rolling over Asia. Full House also made Rain (a.k.a. Jung JiHoon) a recognized actor across Asia.

Since the show, there has been a steady stream of visitors to the “Full House” over the years, from all over the world. As time has gone on, however, fans grew concerned because, according to their accounts, the house was not being properly maintained despite being one of the most popular tourist attractions in Korea. And now this—a typhoon, and demolition. A tourist went to visit the house on Sido Island in April 2013 and was shocked to find it destroyed. He filmed himself singing the “Three Bears Song” in front of the rubble anyway, sort of as a goodbye, I suppose. (The video is rather sad, so fans may not want to watch it. I wish I hadn’t.)

Thank goodness for strolls down Memory Lane, DVDs, photo galleries, and websites like DramaFever. We can still revisit “YoungJae” and “Han JiEun” bumping heads and raising cane and fighting their love like cats and dogs in Full House whenever our hearts desire, present day.

Things are always bound to change, and seldom remain the same… still, it’s strange to realize that the beautiful, modern “Full House” is gone, and that those of us who haven’t seen it in person never will.
