And who wouldn’t? Choose almost any door in the world, open it, and let Rain walk in. (instant ♥__♥) Hehe.

Bibigo (비비고) Hot Stone restaurant tweeted today about Rain’s visit to one of their locations. We all know that Rain is in Shanghai for his BEST at the moment, though when this picture was taken and where isn’t clear. (The tweet by Bibigo Korea is in Korean, but as these restaurants are also in China, the U.S., and other parts of Asia, this could very well have been in Shanghai.)

The first time we heard about the Bibigo bibimbap franchise (this restaurant and Rain are both sponsored by CJ Foods) was in » this Rain post last May 2010, when CJ announced the openings, and HERE.

Cloudmaster Cindy (신디) has put up some really cute pictures and an account from when Cloud Taiwan’s 8th Cloud group got together and went to the BEST Rain 2011 Taipei/Taiwan concert.

The account is in Chinese, but the images are lots of fun. From the looks of it, our Cloud sisters and brothers made quite an event of it (» Carter Chen’s personal video diary of the concert night itself is in our previous post HERE) and even made some things for Rain and Crew. Good show!

Now this is what being a Cloud is all about—no longer being physically isolated and on one’s own, but having fellow fans to indulge in Rain with, online AND face to face.

» 8th Cloud’ers, follow this link to Cindy’s post (#2838) in the Cloud-filled Room on Rain’s official Korean Cloud Fan Site. Cute!

“THE BEST” 2011 Rain Asia Tour in Singapore Concert

22nd May 2011 – Mega superstar Rain was back in Singapore once again for one of the designated stopovers of his widely-anticipated “THE BEST” 2011 Rain Asia Tour. Jointly organized by Faith & D Entertainment and J. Tune Entertainment / C J E&M, the concert featured 22 of Rain’s biggest hit-performances accompanied by spectacular displays of laser shows, pyrotechnics, animation and most remarkably, a 2.5 minute-long raining sequence. Coupled with state-of-the-art stage sound and lighting systems, the explosive night was a major blast for the hordes of fans who attended the concert.

It is suffice to say that Rain brought the house down almost literally with spirals of adrenaline-pumping suave dance moves, showing off his incredible chocolate abs making the girls from left, right and centre go gaga, their piercing screams of sheer joy reverberating within the hall. Weighing in at 75kg, Rain is well-known for his ripped lean body that was made most evident in his starring role in the movie “Ninja Assassin” back in 2010. But aside from his beast-like physic, he is most recognizable for his killer-dancing abilities which eventually propelled him to stardom.

Kick-starting the concert with his soldiery-concept hit song, “I’m Coming”, Rain made an electrifying entry immediately after a dramatic introductory laser show, much to the roaring-cheers from his 5,000-strong fan audience – many of which were overseas fans who flew in from other countries such as Australia and Japan, specially for the concert!

As if watching him perform wasn’t impressive enough, Rain would occasionally tease the crowd with glimpses of his well-defined body in between dance moves. The biggest tease definitely went to the live camcorder footage of him bearing his upper body backstage whilst changing stage costumes. Imagine the chorus of wild screams from the crowd upon seeing his tight abs splash over the huge screen display on stage during the intermission! However just as he was about to take off his pants, Rain gave a cheeky grin before redirecting the camera view away, much to the disappointment of his female fans.

In a twist of events, Rain was unexpectedly rejected by a young toddler girl in his request to join him on stage for a 1-to-1 serenading performance of “My Girl” in full view of the audience – a rare opportunity many others were dying to have. Despite his sincere persuasion, the sudden spotlight perhaps startled the poor little girl into a state of frenzied stubborn rejection, leaving Rain “heart-broken” on stage, face-palmed for that moment. “My baby, I’m waiting for you…” Rain remarked, leaving the multitude of fans screaming in envy.

Overcoming his dejection, Rain went on to choose yet another lucky girl from amongst the enthusiastic crowd – a Malaysian girl in her early teens. Initially blushed crimson, the young girl managed to regain her composure and even joined Rain in dancing and singing through the song, thus earning a bouquet of flowers, a gigantic teddy bear and a big hug from Rain himself, all before the eyes of immensely jealous onlookers – how lucky of her!

Perhaps one of the most memorable scenes from the concert was the 2.5 minute-long raining sequence during the emotional performance of “Me (난)”. A total of 1000-liters of to-be-recycled water was used to create the artificial rain in which Rain drench-danced in (bare-torso-ed, nonetheless) for an aptly melancholic atmosphere.

The concert had many fans ‘demanding’ for an encore, especially after his “finale” performance of “Me (난)”. After showing Rain’s self-reflection video montage of his journey as a celebrity from his rookie days through to where he stands now as a well-respected superstar, Rain went on stage once again to perform 2 of his first album songs, “Bad Guy” and “Instead of Saying Goodbye” as a reminder to himself to never forget the pain and hardwork from his earlier days of his career.

“I will never be lazy. I will never be arrogant, I will never forget the tension and excitement of my first stage.” – Rain (Bi)

Just before bidding his seemingly reluctant goodbyes to the audience, Rain went down the stage to interact with the crowd himself. Some enthusiastic fans thanked him for putting up such a great show while others were simply overjoyed with the slightest physical contact with the superstar. Either way, it was certain that Rain had tremendously impressed all yet again, far exceeding what everyone had expected out of the one-night-only concert. It was definitely a night to be etched in memory for many!

Do visit our Facebook page for more pictures from the concert!

[article] Clap Between Movements, I Dare You: In Dresden, Ojai, Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Mr. Vittes says: “Rain moves as effortlessly between pop, rhythm and blues and hip hop as Vogler moves between Bach, Dvořák and Jimi Hendrix.” Has there ever been a truer statement about both of these very capable men? Nicely said, sir!

°

Huffpost Arts (The Huffington Post, New York) 5/24/2011 — by Laurence Vittes

Clap Between Movements, I Dare You: In Dresden, Ojai, Minneapolis and Saint Paul [excerpt]

If your Spring this year is resisting being sprung, here are three springtime events which are guaranteed to get you in the mood. Check out the youtube samples below. It’s what they mean when they say that being there is the only thing when it comes to classical music.

Dresden Music Festival, May 18-June 7

This year, the Dresden Music Festival will march according to tunes suggested by Five Elements, a theme intended, says director and master cellist Jan Vogler, to “bridge European culture and Asian philosophy, connecting and juxtaposing different religions and ideals in life.” The object: “To celebrate the power of music and its magical effect on the human heart.” The festival takes place among the new and old of Dresden, its old buildings miraculously restored and eternally resplendent, new sites like the transparent Volkswagen factory, vibrant and illuminating the night. After a gala opening orchestral concert featuring Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting the State Orchestra of Saxony Dresden in Saariaho and Mahler, things never let up. Among the high points:

On May 19, Korean singer Rain and Vogler attempt to eliminate the borders between pop and classical music. Rain moves as effortlessly between pop, rhythm and blues and hip hop as Vogler moves between Bach, Dvořák and Jimi Hendrix. On May 22, Alan Gilbert brings his New York Philharmonic to play Beethoven’s “Eroica” and hot young Lisa Batiashvili to play the Sibelius violin concerto. On May 23 it’s recorder virtuoso Maurice Steger and violist da gamba star Hille Perl to play music from one of Dresden’s many past golden ages.

(end of Rain/Vogler section)

“THE BEST” 2011 Rain Asia Tour in Singapore Press Conference

21th May 2011 – Shortly after his arrival in Singapore for the “THE BEST” 2011 Rain Asia Tour, Rain conducted his press conference for members of the media at the Marina Bay Sands Ballroom where he shared about more on his career and tour, as well as to answer any questions put up for him. Unlike how we usually see him in ripped shirts and khaki pants on stage, Rain presented himself in formal attire for the event.

Having been to Singapore before in 2007, Rain was very happy to be back once again for the Singapore stop of his Asian Tour and he definitely misses his favorite Chili Crab dish. With ‘Green’ as the official theme, the concert would focus on representing environmental awareness. By re-using all 1000 liters of water that would be used in a 2.5 minute-long “raining” segment in his concert, he wishes to highlight the importance of saving water.

Rain, having acted in Hollywood before, was the first Korean artiste to win an MTV Award and felt that all these were possible because of all the support he had from his fans which really meant a lot to him. He wishes for their continuous support in future as well. At the time of his press conference, he was in the production midst of the movie, “Flight: Close to the Sun“, as well as in his upcoming album that would be focused more on the Asian market.

When questioned on how the approximate 200 pieces of costumes for the concert came about, Rain explained that he goes through rounds of discussion with his stylists before selecting the final-design for each of the costumes for the various performances. He also mentioned that he is very open-minded when doing so and there is no particular type of costume that he would not wear.

As a special token of appreciation towards Rain’s effort in water conservation, Water Wally, the mascot for PUB, made a special appearance at the press conference to present him with a certificate of appreciation. The press conference was brought to a closure with a short photo-taking session.

As tired as he had to be after his May 22 BEST Singapore concert, JiHoon actually went down the line of fans standing outside of Indoor Stadium, touched them in greeting, and then rolled down his window and waved to them even after getting in the car.

All I could do was sit here with my mouth open. Wow. ♥

Rain at his May 21 BEST Singapore press con. OMG! How does he manage to LOOK like THIS with the sheer hell of his May schedule? What the heck.  You really should bottle and sell your secret, JiHoon—we’d all buy it in bulk at Costco and you’d be able to retire on the interest alone! We adore Carter Chen, and we have for a while.

We adore him because he is awesome when it comes to making videos (this one, for example!). Because he and his exuberant personality are as cute as buttons. Because he can dance up a storm and just might end up on stage himself one day (he really looks up to Rain). And because a guy who joins the 8th Cloud AND wears a 비 haircut is tops in our book.

Go, Carter! 😀 Please enjoy this terrific piece, fans.

Autographs abound! Good show, Rain! (And whoever said “No pictures”… hopefully you were just posturing. If not—you stop that. Rain is established in Asia and that flies there, but he needs a foothold in Europe, especially now, and he won’t get that if you go dissing a few fans about taking a piddly picture when they don’t know if they’ll even see him again in their lifetime. They didn’t bum-rush him or jump him or anything crazy, so get a grip. As soon as he wanted to move on, he did, and they stayed back. So don’t you be rude. What—would you prefer he had no attention, no buzz, in a place where more people need to know about Rain? Seriously? :/ ^@@^) (Credit: remarkablexuxu @YT)

Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten – 21./22.05.2011 – S.10 – Stephan Wiegand

Within One’s Reach

Cultural meeting in the opera. Rain is the popular description of the fifth element.

It’s not obvious at the first sight how Rain influences the occidental High Culture. The Korean Star seems easygoing relaxed amused and plays with his talent. A glance beyond his facade is absolutely impossible; even in the opera, a place for high culture, the auditorium has to search vainly for seriousness. The 29 years old singer, actor and pop star with excellent love of entertainment was flirting constantly with his audience: With his numerous Asian fans, who were confident with every single line of his lyrics, and with critical visitors of the opera. Everyone who wanted to get involved with it, fell for his charm. That was also the self-feeding contrast program, a glance to Asia, a walk on a golden bridge, which the artistic director of the ‘Musikfestspiele’ (music festival) Jan Vogler intended and who enjoyed every single moment of this amusing mass migration.

Approaches like ‘Pop Meets Classic’ has been strained repeatedly in the past few years. In most cases the singer used to buy the suitable famous orchestra for this kind of variety, the musicians took over the part of the side decoration. An attraction, which is meanwhile predictable and does not surprise anymore. A symbiosis of Rain and Vogler is from its approach a completely different one. In this case a cellist discovered ‘the pop culture’ for himself and is furthermore careful enough not to leave behind any individuality.

Via video message Jan Vogler announced what the willing listener could expect in the next 90 minutes: an occidental overture, a colourful firework from the Far East, the meeting and fusion of both west and east and the following immediate parting of each other after this dialogue.

Jan Vogler accomplished with his cello an emotional entrance into an experimental evening Like the artwork of Bach, he was following along the elements fire, water, air an earth. An applicable animation was displayed on the screen in the background, which made it easier for the audience to recognise the elements. Big and small floes were moving, lights were flickering, rivers were plashing, and blossoms were swinging in the wind. The recordings in the background weren’t lavish installations, had semi-professional features, and seemed hastily composed on certain parts, however that suited the concept. Nothing had to be perfect, the elements, the audience, the artists as well as the thoughts only should be touching and complete each other. Hence the addition of an intangible fifth element to the four well-known element was very system-immanent – the spirituality. This accommodation unfolded its whole impact the moment when Rain enters the stage, within an blink of an eye one could feel the culture clash. Screaming teenies with distinct Asian roots were suddenly this near to their idol like they may have never imagined it. In Asia Jung Ji-Hoon easily fills entire stadiums and touches the dreams of girls and boys musician-wise, and suddenly this person is within one’s reach. The immensely high-pitched fan chants were mixed with electro sounds, with which Rain’s songs were designed; the opera developed into a pop-arena and in the rows there was no way back any more.

Every hip swing of the six dancers, every grasp region, every glimpse over the black sunglasses led to the limits of the tolerable. His songs ‘Rainism’ or ‘Hip Song’ are more of the western style, definitely less playful as been expected of an Asian pop song, and maybe because of that it is meeting the nerve of a new far east generation that is orientating on the western style, but is entirely individually socialized. Their parents have recognised the chances and the opportunities of it when cultures merge without neutralizing. They receive the best education the parents can afford, and they fortunately preserve their own character.

To show this was probably the biggest/greatest achievement that Jan Vogler accomplished. Curiously he was looking from the side curtain into the audience and was exceedingly joyful that his experiment was successful. The fact that he closes the circle with a dance of fire was almost a minor matter, it was more painful that the encore calls have not been heard, so the concert was ending abruptly.

I have one thing to say. WHAT A GREAT ARTICLE.

Oh, and thanks to Scorpiola @The Cloud Rain News Board for the tip. 🙂

Performing is Rain’s biggest love

The Korean superstar might play a lot of roles — singer, actor and producer — but that one thing which he still adores is to stand on stage. Rain might be a household name now, but fame has not gone into the Korean superstar’s head. Many times during the press conference held at the Marina Bay Sands yesterday, Rain thanked his fans over and over again.

At the press conference, Rain was told that a diehard Singaporean fan, who had supported him since 2005, spent more than US$5,000 (S$6,179) trying to catch Rain’s concerts around the world.

When asked if he had anything to say to the fan, Rain replied gratefully that he is “very thankful [for her support]” and let on the particular fan was also at his Germany concert 24 hours ago.

Rain added, “I still don’t know how to repay the fan’s support.”

This year, Rain topped the “Most Influential People in the World” poll organised by Time magazine. This is his second time in the list, after his first entrance in 2006. The Korean actor also made his foray into Hollywood, playing the male lead in Ninja Assassin, a role which garnered the “Biggest Badass Star” at the MTV Movie Awards.

Speaking about his international wins, Rain replied that they were all possible, only with his fans’ strong support. He added that he had attended the Times 100 reception previously and had met musicians Sting and Bruno Mars.

Rain may be fulfilling his military duties soon, but fans will still be able to see him around for a little while more.

During the press conference, Rain revealed that he is currently filming his upcoming movie Flight: Close to the Sun, which he is producing too, and that it would be a blockbuster, complete with comedy and romance.

“I hope all of you will love it,” he added with a sincere smile.

Rain also mentioned that he had begun preparations for a new album, but did not provide further details.

Not only is Rain a singer and actor, the talented artiste is also a mentor to Korean boy band MBLAQ.

“It’s fun and interesting to teach the children. It’s not easy because they require guidance. I hope they’ll become better,” Rain replied thoughtfully.

When asked which of his roles — singer, actor and producer — he preferred, Rain laughed and exclaimed, “It’s like asking me to choose between my father and my mother!”

While it was a tough choice, Rain ultimately said that he still preferred to be on stage.

With so many things on his plate, what does the singer do to relieve the stress?

“I eat a lot,” Rain quipped quickly, causing the media present to burst into laughter. “It’s the best way to relieve stress.”

The singer grinned toothily and added that he loved a lot of food in Singapore, especially the crabs.

Rain will be turning 29 years old in June.

When asked if he wants to get married, the singer replied that although he wants to marry early, it is impossible to do so because he is currently unattached. Rain then added that he does not have any tactics when courting girls, and prefers to leave it to Fate.

The Best 2011 Rain Asia Tour will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium tonight, and fans will be able to catch one of the most visually aesthetic performances of the year, coupled with a 2.5-minute long of indoor rainfall.

The 1000 litres of water used to create the ‘rain’ will be collected and recycled for plant watering. Rain aims to promote environment awareness through The Best 2011 Rain Asia Tour and is communicating water conversation in Singapore.

With a production cost of approximately S$1.5 million, the concert boasts of a specially-crafted stage, customised props and equipments as well as 200 costumes.
