[series][3 clips] From Stephe’s desk: Rain 비 TV performances that made me wanna shout! (#12)

What: MBC Rain [5th Album Rainism] Comeback Special

Where: MBC Dream Center in Ilsan

When: October 17, 2008

How many times it made me want to shout: 23

1) OMG, look at that stage. Definitely worthy of a comeback of this magnitude! (Remember, this was not only Rain’s return to the South Korean music scene after being away for several years filming Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin, it was also his first time being completely on his own, without JYP. The song writing, the choreography, the producing, etc. were all decisions made by an independent Rain. And, it would either make or break his career. Scary times… but exciting!)

2) Nice illusion! Rain should always be wet! Haha~ And out of the tank he comes!

3) Rainism! Oh, the visuals! *squeeeeeeeeee*

4) WHAT was that sound he made at :39? *swoon*

maxresdefault-1

5) The hair is tight, the voice is live-mic’d, and that HUGE Rainism across the floor is awwl-right! Gosh, he’s giving us so much Face here… he has been craving the stage and you can tell.

6) Fans in the audience are about to damn near pass out on him. I feel ya’ll’s pain, I feel it!

7) It’s the Magic Stick, he’s working the Magic Stiiiiiiiiick like a mofo, yo!

8) Here comes my mom’s favorite part… wait for it… “Put your hands up.”

9) “This is my story…” Listen to that VOICE. Time for “Love Story”! *squeeeeeeeeeee*

10) Oh, lawd. *stopping the video* Don’t touch the mic stand like that, Rain. Don’t stroke it like that. *whew* Okay… *continuing the video*

11) Look at all the Clouds. Look at him floating on that cloud (of dry ice). I mean… just look.

12) And he rises into the air… holding that note and killing that song. ❤

13) “Please come back to me…” It’s late at night, I’m trying not to wake up my brother and my dad, but you’re not making it very easy, Rain. *squeeeeeeing into a pillow* LOL~

14) *gasp* Time for “It’s Raining.” LOVE the suspenders. That entire outfit is swaggalicious, dude.

15) There goes that magic tongue, flicking at everybody. Haha!

16) At minute marker 9:56, he said, “잘하세요!” (jal-haseyo) “Good!” The Clouds were chanting very well and it pleased him a lot. ❤

maxresdefault

17) OMG, “Only You.” Can I stand it? Beautiful song, hot choreography! @_@

18) Swagging in that Six To Five fashion, yaaaaasssss 🙂

19) What could be better that Rain sweating and on his knees? Not much, I reckon. *sigh*

20) Kim SunAh is one of my favorite Korean actresses. To see her in a “Bad Guy” tango with Rain is a doggone delight. Well done, you lucky duck! 🙂

mbc5thcomebackraincusa5

21) “Fresh woman, fresh woman” with that Afro flopping around, ahahaha~ Whut, a big-ass Afro comb, bwahahaha!

22) Is that a smiley face on the back of his Starter jacket? LOL!

23) And still, he’s sexy as hell. That’s just crazy.

Good lawd, I’m exhausted. That felt like a doggone concert. 🙂

bonus2 This 30-minute gem is also a part of the comeback special for Rain and is called “My Secret Dance Teacher” with Kim SunAh. And, of course, it showcases SunAh and Rain’s rehearsals and interactions leading up to their TV tango performance.

Fun stuff, from SunAh getting flustered as the prospect of rehearsing with sex pot Rain becomes all too real, to him instructing her to dance more sexily — it is a tango, after all — and stick her butt out, to him playing pranks on her on the Internet, to him teasing her mercilessly about guys and feeding her loads of bull about her dating prospects and setting her up with a fake tarot card reading on her birthday (her prospects of finding a good husband supposedly are zero to none), to her finally having enough of his antics and giving him a huge wad of hot wasabi in his lunch. She set his nasal passages on fire and he deserved it, the jokester! Bwahaha~ 😉 ^@@^

  2. It’s always fun to go back and watch these videos. Kim Sun Ah…..we all feel you girlfriend…..on every level. She made him pay with nice chunk of wasabi too. Too funny.

@Beez, you remind me of me, when I first found out about Rain. I wanted to know everything about him too. Although, I never thought about the dancers salaries in the beginning though. I just figured they had steady income throughout the industry, with Rain as their main source. Stephe has always been good about giving Rain’s “homies” some much deserved shine as well. The magnificent 7 (well including Rain) are quite Fly all their own too and I think they have a page on the blog also, if I’m not mistaken.

Stephe has a pic of them showing their oiled up chocolate abs like Daaaamn! If we ask her really nicely, maybe she’ll re-post that one for us too. Can’t ever get enough of looking at “ripped to the gods” chocolate abs. SMILES.

    • I discovered him in October 2014. I think I had seen Ninja Assassin but had watched just because I’m into martial arts. I didn’t know who starred in it. It was only after trying to see who were people talking about – this “The Gateway Drug” – that I watched a couple of his music videos and I was addicted. And rewatched NA and bought the dvd. (I had previously watched episode 1 and 2 of A Love to Kill (still not knowing who Rain was then) but had dropped it because it seemed disjointed to me. I think the subs were bad plus, when I first started watching kdrama, I would never realize when it was a backflash so would be confused. lol) I went back to A Love to Kill and loved it! Watched everything else that’s been available too. (How come that Chinese movie For Love Or Money is available but nothing else he’s done in China is?)

Anyway, it’s only now, and because of something Stephe said about the guys that made me think about it. When The Man is doing his thing, if I have a thought about the rest of them, it’s blown right out of my head as I watch him…hypnotic state.

  3. Ok, I am now down an apple pie. Remind me not to read these “Shout Outs” when cooking. I starting this two thirds into baking that pie and got hooked forgetting the pie. I was so caught up in it and swooning with Love Story I did not smell the pie burning. I just love your commentaries. And by the way the afro looks like the one my sister sported in the seventies. You make me love him even more, if that is possible.

  5. I love the “secret dance teacher” thing 🙂 A few months ago I kept watching it again and again. They’re so cute… The way he looks at her! Once my then 2,5 years old daughter came across and saw that “palm reading” part. And she was quite clear what’s going on 🙂 “Do they like each other?” And thanks for your amusing comments as usual!
Btw, JT camp is for J Tune Entertainment, Rain’s first recording company 🙂

  6. Questions, questions:

    1) If his initials are JJH, what does “JT” in JT Camp stand for?

    2) Ok, so every now and then, I get curious about his dancers. I’ll tell myself, “ok, watch the video 5 times so you can memorize every move Rain makes so you can then ignore him and focus on the dancers. Now try to make a conscious effort to watch only the background dancers,” but I’m rarely successful because even after watching 10 times, some irresistable force draws my eyes back to the main attraction. He cannot not be looked at. Anyway, my question is, when Rain is busy with filming movies and dramas, what do his dancers do? How do they make a living? Are they on his payroll so they’re paid even if they’re not touring?

And THANK YOU, Steph, SO MUCH, for the video with Kim SunAh and the Afro Wig. I’ve never seen a clear (or full) version of those.

Kim Sun Ah is so cute. I can see her trying to concentrate to remember her dance moves. And she’s so pretty. Far prettier than many of those that are promoted as beautiful. This reminds me of the prank her staff and Rain’s staff pulled on the two of them and I’m grinning ear to ear as I think about Rain saying “not true, she’s just a nice noona to me” and her being shocked but after actually contemplating for a minute saying “Tell him we’ll meet”. At least that’s how I remember it. Those may not be the exact words but it’s the gist.

And then the Afro Wig and that track suit! OMGoodness. I was transported to 1974 and the cute boy down the block. Rain looked so good in that thing! lol. Funny how you can tell when people love you and it’s not offensive versus…

Okay. Gotta watch-read the remaining parts of the post. Thank you Thank you thank you…

    • Honshi (mustache and beard) teaches dance and opened a restaurant in Seoul called John Makgeolliano with Gori (long hair). Gori and SooBong (mustache) have choreographed and appeared in MVs and projects for top singers, particularly when Rain was in the military. SooBong is also involved in a restaurant called Tengri Nor. SangQ and Yongdeock are the founders and choreographers of the DQ dance crew, and also run the DQ Pub and bar. I’ve never heard tell of what SungTak does, but he was a choreographer even before Rain’s debut and has been since, so I dare say that’s how he makes his living…

In this fan account from last year, our Maria went to eat at John Makgeolliano and told us about it, so cool. https://cloudusa.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/fan-accounts-rain-at-his-japanese-fan-meeting-in-seoul-425-and-at-the-met-gala-in-nyc-542015/

They’re all pretty well-rounded guys who constantly keep busy. I really admire them. You’re welcome^^

      • Thanks so much for the info about “the guys”. And thanks for the link, I’ll check it out, especially to see who John Makgeolliano is and why the restaurant is named after him.
