[series][clip/cam] From Stephe’s desk: Rain (비) TV performances that made me wanna shout! (#4)

What: The 2008 Golden Disk Awards, where Rain won Best Artist of the Year (Bonsang/Judges Choice)

Where: Olympic Park, Seoul

When: 12/10/2008

How many times it made me want to shout: 10

1) He had made a successful, award-winning comeback with “Rainism” after being away from the music scene for sooo long, in order to film Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin. That by itself was a doggone thrill! He was so happy, too, holding his award, on his own and without JYP for the first time since debut. Aw. ❤

2) That all-black ensemble he was wearing, only broken up by his tie and hanky, really looked great against his skin. And that A Love To Kill haircut… mmm, yes!

3) “11 Days” is one of my favorite songs, especially when his voice gets all whisky-like with it.

4) He takes on a whole different persona when he puts on a hat. Or maybe it’s just me?

5) The choreography was simply DOPE. Rain was so on point with it. Heck, Gori and SangQ were, too! This stage was dubbed Rain’s “chair dance” in the press, and I tell you what. No matter the object he chose to use — a chair, a pole, a trampoline, a cane, a shoe — best believe he would make the most of it, like it was a part of the crew or something.

6) “Hu hu hu hu, I’m crying for you…” Hu hu HU!!

7) Rain did this entire nearly 9-minute TV performance with his signature live mic. Which is insane, taking into account how he threw himself into all the choreography like gangbusters. I mean, goodness gracious. He pulled out all the stops and was still able to sing (that’s power for ya). Listen… every now and again, you can hear him breathing.

8) Dance break #1, to Petey Pablo’s “Show Me The Money.” The next thing I knew, Rain had turnt up and he and his boys killed it!

9) Dance break #2. All I can say is how did he make his body move like that? O.O

10) “Rainism” was slick! The Clouds were all into it. TVXQ were all into it. What a way to end the performance.

bonus2And a Bonus: I discovered not too long ago that Cloud Terry Yu has a full fan cam of the performance on her YouTube. It is absolutely worth watching this from a fan’s audience POV. Thumbs up!

See y’all next Monday, God willing and the creek don’t rise. Until then, keep it rainy!

  3. Stephe I can see why you would want to shout on the one too. I could not keep still watching it. As a teen of the 60s I can relate to Beez too. His energy and performances is so contagious you can not help be caught up with him. I love it and can not get enough of him.. 🙂

  4. In the first video on this page, the side view during the chair dance – when he did that little hike up in his chair as the girl dancer comes around and it’s like his whole body is saying “I’m paying attention!” – whew! So sexy.

  5. I love how that “chair song” transported me back to my teen years in the 1970’s, back to my hometown (Detroit) and basement parties when somebody’s parents weren’t home. lol

I’m constantly amazed at the versatility he brings to every album- different sounds, different concepts, and yet, it never feels like he’s fake but like all personas are part of him. Whether he’s got that sweet and innocent smile or that bad boy thing going on. It’s all him.
