From Stephe’s desk: Rain’s Chinese movie debut For Love or Money (2014) is in tha house. Yay!

OMG, y’all. I’m so excited!

The odds weren’t good, but we got lucky. A dear friend went to a local store where she lives in the People’s Republic of China and managed to snag us some For Love or Money DVDs!

There was a waiting list and no guarantee. We were like, “If we can get even one, we’ll be happy as pigs in slop. Just do what you can. Purdy pleeze with sugar on top?” It really sucked thinking about not one CloudUSAer or Cloud sister in this country having an actual, legally distributed FLoM DVD from China in their hand. Ugh, so irritating!

When she managed to get five, I pert near fell out.

It’s been a couple of months but now they’re here, just waiting for a raffle giveaway at the next Cloudburst which we’ve tentatively planned for this September (2 months away so that folks have time to plan and we have time to grab a few more goodies for y’all from overseas, more on that later).

Something I didn’t expect. I opened mine up (you know ya gotta do the ceremonial un-boxing, heh) and was playing around with the inner DVD cover when I noticed something… the cover art came away from the case quite easily. Purposely. So I carefully slid it out and found a mini-poster on the other side. Aw! ❤

Something else I didn’t expect. I knew that these DVDs were going to be Region 3 (SE Asia), not something I’d be able to play here in the U.S. (Region 1) without special equipment, and I really didn’t care. I just wanted some of us in the States to have them, doggone it. I just wanted Rain and Crystal Liu in our hands, for the day when we could watch them (possession is half the battle). As y’all know, Clouds are curious. I slid my DVD into my Blu-ray player for the heck of it, to see what it would do.

It played. With English subtitles. In crystal clarity.

Can’t explain why it’s playing. Don’t care. There was Rain driving like a bat out of Hell, nearly giving his passenger a stroke and almost mowing Liu Yi Fei down in the street.

Here are the first couple of minutes, for as long as YouTube lets it stay up.

It’s already been established that Rain’s voice is dubbed over, but I couldn’t care less when it comes to this movie.

His voice is the second thing about him that caught my attention back in the day, and I’ve loved it for years. It’s soulful. Unique. Always good for what ails me. But. The gorgeous Rain visuals in this movie are such that I just don’t care right now.

Time for y’all to get spammed.^^

The DVD also plays on my laptop. Yaaaaaasssssss.

The back cover says the DVD includes special features, but I don’t see any. Which leads me to believe that there is another DVD out there with all the bells and whistles. Whatevs. I’m just thankful to have what I’ve got. No looking any gift horses in the mouth here.

SO looking forward to seeing y’all soon and raffling these off!

Until then, mah peeps—

  2. You are just as excited as I was when I saw the movie for the first time in the theatre in China and I saw the Eng. Subtitles it was such a great surprise. At the movie premiere fanmeeting I almost asked Rain if that is how he drives in real life.LOL! I changed my mind at the last minute.
    A Cloudburst sounds like a great idea…..

  3. Oh Stephe! How exciting!! What a wonderful friend to get those for you. I know Clouds will be very excited to win one of these at the Cloud Burst. I hope someday (soon!) they will released this movie so all can get it.

    • I agree with you. I’m not understanding why the movie isn’t just out there for everyone who wants to buy it. That’s money! Don’t you wanna make as much money as possible? WTHeck? It’s irritating. I truly didn’t think we’d get any.

If I can just find out where to get it online, I’m sending everybody over there.
