  1. i didn’t feel offended by the LA Song when the boobs and butt expanded. The big boobs could have been for any race but when I saw the butt expand, I immediately thought, “Oh he’s talking about black women.” True, not all of us have full butts, but the majority of us do, we have more women in our race with full butts than any other race. That just tells me that Rain is very observant and attracted to that part of the body and he realizes that the full butt is seen more on black women. I think that black women are the originators of full lips, full hips. That is why so many women of other races are getting lip injections and butt injections, getting what they told us was TOO big back in the day. Black women complain about not being represented in videos of other races and allegedly we are represented in LA song and now some of us have mixed feelings about it, feeling that we were represented negatively. A comment was made about never seeing a black woman in any KPop video, that’s not true. I can’t remember the name of the song, but Jay Park has a video with a black woman in it. I’m sure Rain didn’t mean any harm and he is not the only one making decisions about the plot of a video. I feel very flattered that Rain notices and acknowledges the beauty of black women, no other race gives us credit for being beautiful. Love Ya Rain!!!

    • No kidding! So “global” was my thought. There’s even an Indian/Middle Eastern flair in “Oppa.” He’s so incredible. Such a thoughtful album. After I got over the fact that it was a dance album, I was so impressed. I just wasn’t expecting a “dance” album. But I LOVE it.

Leave it to Rain to do the unexpected. At least we are never bored, right? LOL.

  8. My favorite song on the “Rain Effect” CD is “Dear Mama, Don’t Cry”. Below is a translation of its lyrics.

English Translation for Lyrics to Rain’s “Dear Mama, Don’t Cry”
    (from Rain Effect CD)

I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry
I say dear mama don’t cry

Open your eyes, your breath, your eyes have raised me
Where are you sleeping? Tell me
Your son who misses you is right here, my mama, mama

I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.
I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.

You always cried because of me, laughed because of me
You worked because of me, hurt because of me
Because of me, because of me, everything because of me
I miss you, everything about you
I went to the place you lay and set up a meal
But you can’t eat it so I just say my hellos and come back
    Without even hugging you

You always lived for me, gave delicious food to me first
The warm floor was always for me, without even knowing your pain
Mama don’t cry, mama don’t cry

My mother, please don’t cry now
I did it, I fulfilled what you wanted for me

I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.
I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.

I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.
I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.
I say dear mama don’t cry. Dear mama don’t cry.
I say dear mama don’t cry. I say dear mama don’t cry.

    Dear mama don’t cry.

    I love you mama.

  10. Actually, after looking at LA Song for the hundredth time Gee is right. I also get that New Orleans vibe….little bit of Mardi Gras, a little bit of voo doo. Also, a little bit of old carnivals and spats in the mix. Love the whole vibe.

I’d say it seems somebody got bit by the New Orleans bug reading our fan accounts from our NOLA Cloudburst. Yes Bi, the NOLA crew take full responsibility. At least that’s what I’d like to think. *SMILES*…………………………..

    • Well, that’s one way to spin it. LOL. Felt more Brazilian to me, but then again, I do agree that there is a NOLA feel to it too.

I’d love to know what his inspiration really was for the video. Hm.

      • That’s the beauty of “art”…..music or otherwise. It becomes whatever the person viewing it/listening to it feels it is. Brazil may very well be his true inspiration. It looks like he talks about this video quite a bit on the reality show episode 3. So I hope the English translation comes real soon.

It’s musical “gumbo” I tell ya. A little bit of everything is in that video.

          • I hear ya. You know, I will say that although I chuckle a bit at the scene coming from a Korean man, as a black woman I gotta tell the truth. That deep down that scene does “pinch my sensitivities” a tad….can’t lie.

I’m not going off on a tangent and I Don’t want to get deep Not Now….but it does play on age old stereotypes of black women….*Just Saying.* Can’t really give Bi a complete pass, even though I do give him high fives for the overall diversity within the video. Diversity you don’t see in other K-Pop videos, at least I never have.

So, with that I’m done. Not looking for a response from anyone, just my thoughts. Carrying on…………

            • Now you know I was gonna comment on that one. First if you recall it was on this very site y’all talking about needing bigger shirts? Aherm… Most are black that comment. Second yes even I have said I gotta a Beyoncé butt not Kardashain! Hahahaha anyway point being majority of black women have a booty hell Jihoon has a good one himself. But coming from him I didn’t feel any negative vibe. That’s not him, he knows better. Now what’s his name Gdogdragon (yes I did!) ya can sing with Missy all ya want but I’d never buy his music!! I’m not talking about the others. But his @ss knows he’s just capitalizing! Jihoon has diversified long ago, he knows what’s up. We can talk more on fb if you want BiA so this doesn’t go off course. I don’t mean you😘

              • You are right and I, BiAlamode was the one who made the post about needing larger shirts. Damn sure did. However, that’s because it’s true for myself Personally. That particular “shoe” fit me, myself and I. I stand by the post then AND now.

Bottom line is big boobs and a big booty don’t necessarily belong to black women Only. We don’t have the patent on that. He could just as easily “blown up” the boobs and butt on any female from Any color of the rainbow. That’s really my only point. Do I think he was being negative? In a phrase, of course not….but just like any artist out there, they walk a thin line sometimes when they put their wares out to the public. All artists want to create some buzz, be a little edgy and I totally get that. Whatever that may be, the public has a right to respond to it. Especially if they are your fans. Like we are. At best, he was being cute and the scene was more about HIS “Effect” on women in general rather than black women in particular. The woman just happened to be black……I get it. But, others who may not know, need to get that there are implications that are age old is all. I’m not tripping about it.

We all know that stereotypes are born out of some truth that become GENERAL overall perceptions that end up becoming the “gospel” according to what people may or may not know about a given culture. This is one reason why I hesitate bringing up social issues on this site, because it can get intense and I didn’t want to go there this evening….well morning now. However, like you Lotus, when I feel compelled I will respond in kind too.

Who comments on this site, don’t know’em all and can’t say who all is on “my side of the rainbow” so I can’t respond to that. Not many have made their individual ethnic backgrounds known like you and I have. However, I would say that just because it may be perceived that many of us are black that comment here, not all of us are. So with that, I will take you up on your offer to take it to FB. Although, I don’t have much more to add. I’ve pretty much stated my opinion and I’m going back to playing the album now.

Now, I’m truly carrying on………..and NO I’m not upset.

                • BiA, my sistah we as black people need to also take in consderation we don’t hold the patient on dark skin? My opinion only? This song was based on more a Latin flavor, Brazil. And Brazil is known for big beautiful butt women and they like us come in many different shades. Also if he didn’t put some color in the mix someone would have issue with that. You know. Hahahaha Now your so right idk really the colors or origins of people that all comment on this site. Which is why I used Kardashian in the mix on play with words(booty size) mine in general Hahahahahaha cause sister JLo got butt too. The point I was trying to make is it’s not always about us? Ya know. We’ve been hurt and taking advantage of for so long that when it’s something completely new we make it about us. And yes your so right everyone is entitled to voice their concept about JiHoon or anyone else that’s in the public eye, it’s just we are Cloud’s and JiHoon loves us no matter where we are from cause he knows we care for him not just his music. So I strongly believe he does pay attention to what we say and he would never do anything to offend us. And I love having conversations with you BiA. It’s Just at one point in my life I was very pro black! You know what I mean mainly because of my mixed heritage I felt I needed to know more to be better just to belong. But in the general scheme of things it’s all about just people cause we are all a like. Although their are still the a holes mixed. Hahahaha 😘

                  • I am a huge Rain fan and — from what I read and about him, and that is quite a lot — I know that there isn’t a racist or misogynistic bone in his body. However, the boob/butt scene is disturbing on varying levels to some black people as we are not a monolithic group. I hope that that part of the video — as the rest of it was fantastic — is not the first introduction that prospective fans have because it could drive some black fans away without giving him a chance, which would be a shame given what a huge talent he is. After all, we want to increase his fan base. I hope he is gently made aware of this issue so he can measure the risk of presenting such imagery — even though it was in no way meant to offend — more carefully in the future given that I know Rain does love his fans, no matter where they are from.

                    • Sigh. I know what you mean. He didn’t mean to offend anyone. Korea is an extremely homogeneous country, and has just recently “gone global.” Artists in K-Pop are regularly offending someone, because they don’t know any better yet.

                      But they’ll learn, I’m sure.

                  • Lotus girl, you know I know. If you go back to my post (about larger shirts) and also to my comment here, I made reference to how things affected ME only. If others relate cool, if not it’s just the expression of my own feelings. I agree, we as black women, can be sensitive about things like this and rightly so. You said it, we have been the most emotionally, verbally abused AND misunderstood (in the cultural sphere) out of all other ethnic groups. Even the variations of the color of our skin tones as well as our own individual experiences is just as diverse WITHIN our own ethnic group. There is also a Whole Other type of social commentary that can go along with that statement as well, as you know. However, does that mean others have not experienced that same type of behavior too? No it doesn’t mean that, but that behavior has been “Heaped” by the bucket loads on our heads the most. So, when I said the scene “pinched my sensitivities” it did.

However, to give a perspective of how “deeply” I felt it. It’s just like going to the doctor and getting a needle stick. The “sting” only lasts for a few seconds and then it’s over. THAT’S how I felt watching the video……the “sting” only lasted a few seconds and that’s it. You get over it real quick. There are worse things to get upset about. As Terri said, these K-Musicians will make missteps about racial sensitivities time and time and time again UNTIL they either get it on their own or get their @sses handed to them publicly. Either way works. *SMILES* All of them (Bi included) still primarily think in terms of presenting their music to Koreans first and they sometimes forget the power of social media and just how far, fast and wide their music reaches. The World sees your stuff at the same time your Korean fans do. Make no mistake. So, they just have to become more aware that’s all. Then all will be well. *SMILES*……………..

As far as “owning the patent” on dark skin goes, if I’m to understand your point I think you are referring to Black American women (specifically) owning that patent. If that is what you meant, then no I don’t feel that, I’ve never felt that. The Black Diaspora is WORLD wide and everybody has a different set of sensitivities and sensibilities about how they feel about color and race. Even among Black people. Once again, when I talk about these things here I primarily talk about my own personal feelings and how something affects me. I also get that some of how I feel may also be generational as well. A younger Black female may not have even blinked at that scene. Everything is relative. So, I just wanted to say that. I don’t want to cast a dark shadow (no pun intended) over Bi’s comeback. We all have lessons to learn. This was a great discussion. *SMILES*……………………
