[Cloudburst account] Maria’s POV: My first Cloudburst and first time visiting The Big Easy.

Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^

Maria came all the way from New York, and as many of you may recall, she was in Washington D.C. to support Rain at the Arirang World Peace Festival back in May. (She was also instrumental in helping us be sure Rain’s flowers and treats were received by the event director and placed in his dressing room.) She is a warm, kind soul, and I look forward to seeing her again at a future Cloudburst.

Thanks for sharing your account with us, Maria! 🙂

First Cloudburst I attended and first time visiting NOLA.

New Orleans also known as NOLA, N’Awlins, The Big Easy

September 28, 2013

Woke up at 3:30AM as I had a very early morning flight which arrived in NOLA at 10:30AM.  Waited at the airport for Michele to arrive.  Was really looking forward to spending time with her and meeting other Clouds.  I last saw Michele back in May, when Rain performed at the Arirang Festival in Washington DC. That was our first time seeing Rain live. Very happy that Rain was performing in the US,  but it was just a teaser as he sang only 2 songs and left us wanting more… Talking about a full concert or two or three, yes I would say we have Rain fever.

Both of us made a custom T-shirt to wear at the Cloudburst.  Mine has the titles of all the songs since 2002, and Michele has a picture of a very handsome Rain.  We decided we would add “Cloud 9” on them as we are both patiently waiting for the day to come so we can become part of the 9th Cloud Membership, or be on  “Cloud 9 for Rain”,  so off we went to find a craft store.  Mission accomplished.

After a few hours we drove to Gee’s house and Alicia was the first Cloud we saw outside (Alicia was also the very first Cloud I had met back in Washington DC). Before reaching the house, we opened all the car windows and blasted loudly Rain’s songs so she could hear us coming, and so did the neighborhood. Gee gave us a very warm welcome. She has a very lovely and spacious house.  We also met Gee in Washington DC, right after she had just personally met Rain and took a picture with him and her excitement over what just happened was infectious.  One is instantly drawn to Gee because of her high spirited personality.

Like Michele mentioned, Patsiii was missing from the group which we also met for the first time in Washington DC, and we so missed Patsiii at the Cloudburst.  We met Gee’s friends who helped her with all the preparations of the delicious dishes for all of the Clouds to enjoy.  Truly shows what meaningful, long lasting, true friendships Gee has. One by one we met all the other Clouds that came from all across the US and shared conversations about how we came to know of Rain, and it was awesome to finally see them in person when we might know of them only online. Gee has excellent comedic timing and we laughed so much throughout the whole evening. She also prepared gifts for all of us and I won an R2B framed poster, which I love.

Stephe and Terri arrived with a suitcase full of amazing gifts. They were mostly donated and purchased by Michele when she went to Seoul in July, and Cloud USA gifts. We watched a Rain concert from Japan, and no matter how many times one has seen the same performance, I never tire of watching it again and again. Awesome.

By the time the concert ended, it was like 3AM and I was nearing 24 hours of being awake and needed to get some sleep, and so we said our goodbyes but with great intentions of seeing each other again real soon.

Sunday September 29, 2013

After only sleeping a couple of hours, we drove to the French Quarter and the Market, stopped at the Aunt Sally’s Creole Pralines shop, and when in N’awlins you have to go to Café Du Monde for their hearty French coffee with chicory and delicious beignets, then on to Jackson Square which on Sundays is surrounded by artists, musicians and mimes.  Music can be heard everywhere, one can party all day and all night.

We did not get a chance to join some of the Clouds for lunch as it was getting to be too close to the time Michele had to go to the airport.  On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Gee’s house again as I had left behind the R2B poster and wanted to pick it up before my travels back to NY on Monday.  Once there we learned that Gee had not yet been to sleep as the party went on until 6AM. We stayed for a bit and watched more videos of Rain and other K-pop artists and we all agreed that Rain has had a major influence on many performers.  Time arrived for Michele to catch her flight and although sad that our time together was over so quickly, we are both very confident that we will be attending similar Rain events or concerts in the future.

I later joined Vicky and Alicia at Terri and Stephe’s hotel room to spend more time together.

Return home flight was not until early afternoon and there was still time to do some more sightseeing.  I love to learn the history of new places I visit and decided to take a drive out to Vacherie, LA and took a tour of the Oak Alley Plantation which still is a working sugarcane plantation.  I learned about each family that owned the “Big House”  and as I walked the beautiful grounds and looked around I kept imagining how it was back in the days.

To summarize I would say that this whole N’awlins Cloudburst weekend was a huge success.  Cloud sisters, it was a pleasure and a whole lot of fun meeting you all and sharing our love and support for Rain.  Can’t wait to do it again.

Please check out the video of pictures and short clips I took during the weekend in New Orleans.

Hugs from Maria/TonicNY, NY-USA

  1. Yes that will be great Tonicny

  2. Thank you everyone for reading my fan account and for the great comments! Loving and supporting Rain has been an amazing ride and wish to continue to meet new Clouds and hopefully see live Rain concerts in the near future. Wishing you all and Rain much happiness!

  3. Patsiii, so looking forward to seeing you again!

  4. Great fan account Maria. What part of New York are you from? I’m from New York City, borough of Manhattan. Hopefully I will be able to make it next time. Thanks for sharing

    • Upstate NY, the State Capital area. Look forward to meeting you and Thank you for reading my fan account.

    • Hi! unsure if this is also a double post, first my reply was there now its not.
I am from the State Capital area. We should have a Cloudburst in NYC, that would be so much fun. Look forward to meeting you next time. Thank you for reading the fan account.

  5. Love your account Maria. Love the video! My time in New Orleans was too short. I would’ve loved to get more of a historical perspective, by going on a plantation tour myself. I smiled when I saw the “Happy Hookah” (we were on that street as well). Love it!

    • Bi, I am so happy to finally have met you and I loved reading your fan account as well, wish we could have seen each other again but time went by so fast. Truly was not in NOLA long enough. I hope to visit again. I had to cut my tour visit to the Plantation short as it was getting too close to get to the airport on time time.

  6. – Maria, thank you for your account! New York?? You flew down here from NY, wow, I was wondering which of you ladies hailed from there, as I saw it mentioned in another account. That’s some zeal, a true fan indeed (^_^) Was it your first time down South? Your vid was nice also, I live close to New Orleans & have friends (and family, I think!!!)- there, but have never had the chance to explore it, so I like to browse pics and vids of the place at times. Interesting city, and wonderful ladies that gathered! Mr. Jung’s fans are seriously cream of the crop!

    • HI! it was my first time in NOLA. Have always wanted to experience the Mardi Gras or come down when the Jazz Festival is going on. Although I am glad my first time there was during a not so overcrowded time as it was great to see the sights and sounds of NOLA and I had a great tour guide as Michele has been there many times for work so she knew the area well. Yes I agree with you that Mr. Jung’s fans are seriously cream of the crop, if there is ever a chance you have to be at a Cloudburst do so as it is a wonderful experience. I do hope one day it will be as we gather for a Rain live concert. So spread the word we need him to come and perform in the USA.

  7. Sister the pictures & video was beautiful. The song perfect. I thank all of you for sharing my home & my city. Much love to all of u. When can we do it again? 🙂

    • Oh, we will be doing it again, for sure. And again. And again! Once you get used to being with your Cloud sisters, you don’t want to stop! (I feel like I’m going through withdrawal symptoms)

New Orleans was the bomb. (Don’t be surprised if you get a call from me begging to come down and crash at your house for a little weekend R & R… LOL)

      Stephe ^@@^

    • Gee, I can’t thank you enough for opening up your beautiful house and welcoming all of us with such open arms. Truly a fun weekend. I hope you got to catch up with your sleep eventually. I think it was mentioned we are going to try to do one in every State and I heard someone mentioning that Hawaii may also be on the list for a future Cloudburst. I would love one in New York City too. Its a 3 hour drive to the city from where I live.

  8. Awesome capture of a wonderful visit!!

    • Michele, it was a lot of fun sharing this first Cloudburst and spending time with you. Lets do it again and again….

      • DC was the intro, NOLA was a tasty bite of a Cloud event, next will be to experience a live show with the man himself! So much more on the horizon…SO much! ♥

  9. Mariia, Awesome Fan account! It made me feel like I was there enjoying the Rainfest with you. I am anxiously awaiting the next Cloudburst which I will attend no matter what. I would have loved to have spent time with you and Michele and the other clouds. When Rain comes to the US (hopefully this year), we’ll have the opportunity to see each other again.

    • Patsiii, you were mentioned and truly missed by the Cloud sisters you met in D.C.! Looking forward to meeting you at the next Cloudburst, maybe? *fingers crossed* 😀

      Stephe ^@@^

    • Patsiii,

We so missed you at the Cloudburst. Looking forward to meeting you next time. ♥

      Terri :-}
