Below is NYCuckoo’s fan account of her meeting with Rain in D.C., which she posted over on The Cloud a day or so ago. I’m just now having time to post it here.  I do hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

Finally, I have one picture with Rain.  This 24-hour non-stop trip was worth it.

He performed as a PR soldier in Washington D.C. for the Arirang World Peace Festival at the Warner Theater on May 8, 2013.  The show started at 7:10 p.m.  Rain was the last guest of the show.  He sang two songs:  “Hip Song” and “Instead of Saying Goodbye.”

After the show, I and another NY fan (called S) went backstage.  Originally, we just wanted to say goodbye to him.  However, the timing was too perfect to be true.

When we reached backstage, one USA fan (called G) was already there. I asked G if the black van was waiting for Rain. She said yes. Then, I said, “He is coming out now!” In a second, Rain already stood in front of us.

He looked so happy, and he recognized I and S immediately.  Honestly, we didn’t expect that. Later, we guessed that it was probably because I and S usually welcome him at the airport for his USA East Coast trips. (However, this time, we didn’t go to Dulles Airport.)

He said, “Good to see you,” to both of us.
Then S asked him, “You know we are from New York, right?”
He replied, “I know, I know.”
He pointed to me with his finger and said, “I remember you.”
Then I said, “See you on July 10th.”
Rain replied, “Yes, July. Two months, two months.”

I gave him smile, of course. Then, I opened my arms, like seeing old friends. He saw it and also opened his arms. Then, we looked at each other and mutually agreed to give a big hug to each other. I walked towards him slowly, put my head on his chest, and we had a good, warm, big hug—like old friends. His uniform material was not too good. I could feel the roughness of it, because my face was on his chest.

Then, G asked for a photo, and we all joined and got a photo together. (Thanks, G.)
Later, S asked for an individual photo. Rain accepted and took one with her.
I was busy talking with him and hugging him. Therefore, I had no chance to ask for an individual photo.

Finally, I gave him a box of Pepero (빼빼로). He took it and smiled.

I believed it would be a good snack after work. Right, Ji Hoon?
