We know you would, but don’t even bother yourself, JiHoon.

You already trained at one of the hardest boot camps in the military and served 5 months right at the Korean Demilitarized Zone, practically looking at the North Koreans, and did that earn you any respect? No. You’ve taken 27 vacation days, LESS than what regular soldiers get and only a third of what PR soldiers get, and does that earn you any compassion? No. All that it’s gotten you is crucifixion by the bottom-feeders in the Korean Media, persecution by netizens who depend on gossip rags, believe everything they are told, and have no interest in thinking for themselves, and no visual support that we can see from your friends or the Korean celebrity circles.

You’ve done enough. Don’t do anymore. You won’t get any credit for it anyway because apparently neither hard work nor the truth mean anything where you are, just what people “believe” and getting the “feel-good” opportunity to stick it to Rain. Just get your focus back, concentrate on the rest of your service, don’t make any more mistakes or get complacent (because one mistake for you is like 10 for anyone else) and never let your guard down.

Of course, when you’re successfully working in Hollywood, they’re all going to jump on the bandwagon and want to claim you again. And that’s when you show them your middle finger. *PLONK* *TOO LATE* Heh.

Rain, “I would just serve on the front right now if I could”

Singer Rain (his real name, Jung Ji Hoon. 31years old) serving in the army, is alleged to have had time for self-restraint and self-reflection by writing book reports on the books ‘The growing is Painful’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, and by writing a letter of apology during his probationary period.

According to a military official on the 15th, “Corporal ‘Jung Ji Hoon’ (in the military public information support service) read two books recommended by his unit and wrote book reports on those books and even wrote a letter of apology. His seven days’ probation period is successfully completed today.”

The book ‘The Growing is Painful’ comprised of 42 messages of encouragement, is still widely read especially by people in their 20s and 30s. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, an autobiographical novel of stock genius ‘Jordan Belfort’, is a classic tale of rags to riches, and the film version starring ‘Leonardo DiCaprio’ of the novel is being produced.

Corporal ‘Jung’ who violated the decree on military service in the process of dating with actress ‘Kim Tae Hee’ while off the base for official military duties last 8th, was placed under a period of probation of one week.

The officer said, Corporal Jung wrote a letter of apology, “I’m so sorry for other public information services support soldiers (entertainment soldiers), and I’m sorry if I’ve caused them and the whole unit any trouble. I’ll carry out my duties faithfully all the time for the remainder (7 months) of my military service by reflecting deeply on what I’ve done.”

Jung added, “I would just serve on the front right now if I could, but shifting my position won’t solve the problem. I will do my best not to squander chances given to me.” Following, “It is extremely regrettable what I’ve faithfully done for the past year has been ignored and completely angled by the media. This is not to be misunderstood as meaning that I’ve dated without serving.”

It is said world star Jung visited the army base to give a morale-boosting concert more often than other public information services support soldiers, which led to even a sore back.

Meanwhile, Defense Ministry is instituting a new special management policy to require the do’s and don’ts of the military service.▲They must be accompanied by a military officer while off the base for official military duties. ▲They must return to their unit no later than 10pm ▲ They must report to their commanding officer how things are going on, on a monthly basis. ▲ Too many vacation days are prohibited.

  1. Did they let him read the book “Growing is painful”??? What the hell? He can write the book with same title himself.. I am really sick of this “scandal” – I still remember how comunist media in my country hunted “misbehaved” people and how the great majority of our “perfect citizens” trusted it without even try to use their own heads.. OMG, this looks the same! Every regime needs a public enemy.. It is good to take a focus off important problems and make citizens forgot the important problems. 😦 I am really disappointed..

It’s funny…when this recent scandal first broke, I made this Very Same suggestion. Because I felt just as strongly about the situation as you do. Shortly thereafter, a comment was made to the effect that I should not say such things….although comical my “verbal car should be put in park.” The implication being that my statement was too harsh.

However, Cherrie I stand by my earlier comments and I 110%, Wholeheartedly agree with You. I’m of the mindset that home country or not, you don’t stay where you are being mentally and verbally abused. Because basically that’s what it boils down to. Korea is a “bi-polar” nation. One minute Bi is the best thing since sliced bread, then on a dime he’s public enemy #1. This country will simultaneously love and hate it’s celebs. Since Bi is the world star, he gets it the most and the harshest. He’s gotta be asking himself why should he stay and perform for such an ungrateful nation. At least if I were him, I would ask myself that.

He’s also at a point not only in his life, but his career where he CAN make the decision to stay or go. He’s got that option. Korea seems to not be getting that. I know where I’d be come August 2013.

(*….Ladies and gentleman, we will begin boarding all first class passengers on flight 001 on The-Hell-Out-Of-Korea airlines services to Los Angeles, CA….*)

  4. I swear to God. Someone over there in Korea hates Rain’s guts. What in the world???

The Korean media has somehow now misconstrued his saying he would serve at the front lines “if he could” as him saying that he had actually requested a transfer to the front line.

And NOW the headlines are saying that the rumors of his doing that aren’t “true.” Like he lied, like he wouldn’t really do that if someone would allow him to. Oh my God, I’d go kick something, but it would hurt my knee again.

Can’t ANYBODY in the Korean Media READ? Dammit, these people are stupid.

Rain. Go. PLEASE. Please beg for a bloody transfer and bloody go to the front. Do whatever you have to to make them let you serve the rest of your time peacefully. I swear to you….SWEAR TO YOU…that Cloud USA will still be here when you get out. I swear it to the heavens.

This vitriolic mistreatment of him makes me sad as hell. I’d rather not see him again at all until July 10, 2013 if this is what it is going to be like. :-\

    • A damned shame is what it is. I don’t think Bi ever saw this coming, not like this….the relentless-ness of it all. IMO, somebody’s getting some serious “scratch” to keep this sh_t going. Even after the apology. As I said before, he should catch the first thing out on it’s way to the U.S. when he’s discharged.

I think the media is being relentless because somebody wants to try as hard as they might to “sully” his reputation over here in the States, Before he gets to working good. I truly believe that. Also now that I think about it, Bi may have been a little too vocal about his desire to come here. He probably unknowingly stepped on some toes he didn’t realize he was stepping on or he did and just didn’t think it would be this big of a deal. This whole situation smacks of some serious “collusion” going on behind the scenes somewhere. Someone is going to a LOT of trouble just to try and ruin one man.

I mean, what’s the goal? To embarrass him to the point where he’ll hang his head in shame and not come to the U.S.? Is it to make him want to leave Korea altogether? I’m confused Korea…..what do you you all want to happen to him exactly? You want him to stay? You want him to go? What do you want?

      Inquiring minds want to know……………………………………….

      • BiA,

That is the way it has always been. If you look back at all of Rain’s so-called “scandals” over the years, they just look a little too manufactured. They always have.

All I can say is whoever you are, your tactics are failing miserably. Rain is ALREADY very well respected here in the U.S. and in Hollywood. And that’s that.

        So there. Get over it.

        • I agree. It reminds me of several of his past “scandals.” They’re trying too hard. They are trying to beat this “dead horse” to death again. You hit this particular nail square on the head Terri. Bi hasn’t lost one Ounce of respect here, like Whoever, thought he would. In the U.S., we see this latest scandal as kind of pathetic really and certainly nothing that would taint a man’s reputation to the point where he could no longer expect to work here. This is why they are trying so hard…..Still.

  5. I hope even if he wanted to be transferred there they will not assign him there because of its delicate nature. And being an inexperienced soldier, he is not suppose to be assigned to a dangerous place esp the DMZ…Why should they transfer him to the Demilitarized Zone? The people that they should transfer there are the ones with enough experience to deal with the communists, ones who have psychological knowledge who will know what to do should an attack arises and yes Rain have to many CONDITION his Health and body they better NOT sent him if they smart to know it and if they are sending THAT EVEN MORE ridiculous to him their no to the Demilitarized Zone? The people that they should transfer there are the ones with enough experience to deal with the communists, ones who have psychological knowledge who will know what to do should an attack arises… and there weather is CRAZY i would SO MAD if they do to Rain

  9. Reading books and writing reports like he was in high school? Seriously? This “punishment” can’t be more ridiculous!! I bet JiHoon wanted to throw those damn books to his superior’s head! On the other hand, I’m glad they allowed him to write a letter apologizing for his “bad behavior”. It seems that apologies are really important for koreans, specially in the entertainment industry so there, the man made an apology, it should be the end for netizens’ complains. Also, I’m happy he got the chance to tell people that he worked really hard as entertainment soldier for a year and it was totally ignored just cuz he “dated” three or four times during military duty. Well, this should be the end of this nightmare at least for now cuz we all know that as soon as he’s out of military service, the media will bring it back. sighh -.-

  11. Stephe, Thank you for making such valid points. I too am very grateful that we have been able to view so many of his shows while serving.

I am hoping he has had a lot of support that we are not publicly hearing about.

  12. Question now that his one week stupid punishment period is over. Will Rain still have to perform and do his radio show? I wonder how he will be treated by his fellow soldiers now that the rules have gotten stricter because of this. I know others have probably done exactly what Rain did and even maybe was caught. But it was not made into a big public deal. But because he Rain this little mistake was just blown up like he was found out to be a traitor to his country. I mean good grief to me it is just so small of a mistake. I hope he does not get a lot of grief from his fellow soldiers. Poor baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Flower,

His time with the radio show is over, I think. DEMA has already removed both his and KCM’s characters from the Speeding Instinct website. They are still over on the Twitter, but I think that will go next.

As far as performances go, I’m sure he will perform somewhere again. I don’t think the Army is going to give him up that easily. Honestly, I think if the military had been given the choice, they would have swept this little problem under the rug. The problem was the treatment of the story in the Media and with the netizens blowing it up so big that they had to address the issue.

Which actually could be a good thing. AFter all they did have to change the rules somewhat about how and when they were going to use the entertainment soldiers. Now they HAVE to provide a proper escort for all of their men when they are off base, for example. So, I do think some good things may have come out of this fiasco, with regard to how the entertainment soldiers will be utilized. We will see.

  13. This whole situation is just so crazy!!!!!! I feel so bad for Rain he does not deserve this!!!!! All he did was go on 3 dates while on duty and forget to put his hat on 1 time. If I understood it correctly he dated her after he finished doing what he was suppose complete those days. It was a date on the way back to the base correct? Can someone tell me if I got this correct. They act like he killed someone while on duty!!!!!!! Ok yes he got caught but damn is it that big of deal what he did. He should be able to do his punishment and move on. His excellent record of serving should still shine in everyones eyes. This was not a big enough mistake for people to just forget all of the excellent top notch military service that he has done so far. People are so jealous or want him so bad that he is always having to fight someone or something. I do hope that he comes to America and continue to make it big!!!!!!!! I will continue to pray for him!!!!!!

      • @terri thanks for the reply! Can you tell me if I got it correct about what rain did wrong? He did go on 3 dates after he had finished his duty for each day. Basically they dated while she drove him back to the base. One of those times he Forgot to put his hat back on correct?

        Like

        • That is correct, Flower. He accepted a ride back to the military base after finished his work three times and one of those times, when they were switching cars (because they were trying to hide from the paparazzi NOT the military), he forgot to put his hat back on. LOL.

  15. When he went into the Army, he went in as JiHoon and had every intention of staying JiHoon. He wasn’t talking that “keeping a low profile” and “serving as an ordinary soldier” stuff for nothing. If only that was what had happened.

DEMA turned him back into Rain. “Rain” was on every ambassador’s sash he wore, in every press release, and on every poster for every show. They wouldn’t let him put his celebrity aside and here he is, vilified for being a celebrity soldier with so-called privilege.

Would this have happened if he’d stayed a grunt in the Infantry? NO. He would not have been sent off post unescorted to work on music for DEMA in the first place. Yeah, we wouldn’t have been able to see him perform for a while, but so what? I doubt anyone would have actually died from that or something. It’s not about us, it’s about JiHoon and watching his back and him not having to go through crap at other people’s expense.

I’m glad that he was able to bring a lot of joy into a lot of soldiers’ lives on the Consolatory Train. That was important. But I wish he’d never left the Infantry. I had a bad feeling when the PR Department snagged him, and here we are.

    geeeeee thanks, DEMA. Poor JiHoon.

The good news is that he will live through it and go on to bigger and better things, as is his destiny. And the military will be forever changed because Jung JiHoon was in their house. Heh. That is why he was born — to change what was previously unchangeable. He’s made a career out of that already these ten years, hasn’t he? 🙂
