Last October 31, I made a day trip to Singapore to see R2B: Return To Base. They changed the title to: Soar Into The Sun.
My 05:40AM flight to Singapore took about 2 hours. The clouds in Singapore’s sky welcomed my flight. I arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 1 and waited for my friend; I was 15 minutes early. While waiting, I walked around the terminal. Changi is a huge airport.
The Kinetic RAIN ~ a display in Changi Airport. Those are copper coated droplets weight 24 tonnes in total. Who wants to play under the copper rain?
This is a display to celebrate Deepavali ~ Festival of Lights.
I never met my friend in person before; she is a Cloud friend I got to know on Twitter last year. So it was the first time for us to meet up in person too. When you are a Cloud, you will experience meeting other Cloud friends for the first time months or years after you chat with them online. It is a great experience ^^
When my friend arrived, we went to have breakfast. October 31 was actually our first friendship anniversary so we had lots to chat about.
Our breakfast with the tradtional coffee/tea and toast.
Our tickets for R2B were for 2:15PM so we had plenty of time before we needed to go to the cinema at Cineleisure Orchard.
It was a rainy day when 2 Clouds met up in Singapore to watch RAIN’s newest movie. We were planning to take pictures of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel where RAIN stayed on his RAIN The Best Singapore concert last year. But rain can’t wait to welcome us already when we were still on the way there. So we can only take pictures from inside the car. See the difference?
We went to Lotte Mini Market and bought us some Korean snacks and then went to a small cafe near by called Cook and Carpenter. The cafe is small and homey with a vintage theme. Because it was Halloween that day, it was decorated in Halloween theme. The pastries were fresh baked at their own kitchen, all so fresh and nice.
It was still pouring when we headed to the cinema at Orchard later that day. The cinema is located at level 9 of the building. We headed to Hall 10 where R2B was playing and found our seats.
I’m not going to write about the movie here as R2B is still playing in Malaysia now and scheduled to play in Indonesia (November 21) and in Taiwan (November 23). All I can say is that R2B is a good movie. Every Cloud has to go see it; see it 10 times like what RAIN told us if you can. It is his latest work before his enlistment and his gift to us for the long absence in the entertainment world.
However, I can tell you this much. R2B is a remake of The Red Muffler (1964), an old Korean movie by Director Shin Sang Ok.
RAIN worked really hard to pull off his character in this movie, Captain Jung Tae Hoon. He even went as far as to take the gravity tests for jet fighter pilots to live up to his character. He took not just the 6-G test but also the 9-G test right afterwards. It is also said that only 1% of top jet fighter pilots can pass the 9-G test and nobody has tried to take both of the tests on the same day. RAIN doing so is the first case in ROKAF history.
I’m hoping R2B/Soar Into The Sun is doing great in Malaysia and wishing for a great success in Indonesia and Taiwan. Let’s show them the power of Cloud!
