[caps] Soldier check.

Corporal JiHoon the day of the 9th Korea Defense Daily Comrade Marathon (9/15), probably wondering how the hell he was going to get through that crowd without being unintentionally torn limb from limb… (All fan cam screen captures courtesy of pollyanna)

… and later, safely backstage. Whew. We have to say that, after the interview, we were kind of worried too. :/ (Digging the hair, yo…!) ^@@^

  2. Wow JiHoon looks tired, fed up and worried about the safety of the people around him and his own. Jeez is obvious that the military is wringing out of him every second of his life to their advantage. I can’t wait for May 2013 and I’m sure he feels that way too. Good grief!! 😦

    • Mari,

No, he doesn’t look pleased at all. That interview in that crowd would have given even me the heebee jeebies myself. I can’t stand being closed in by a huge crowd of people myself, which is why I don’t particularly like live concerts all that much. For Rain and a few others, I will brave them, of course, but I don’t particularly like being in huge crowds like that.

When the Olympics were here in Atlanta, my brother and parents worked really hard and talked me into going to Olympic Park one week night. I said okay, and we went down and listened to some music and walked around and saw some of the exhibits. It was very nice. A few hours after we left, the place was bombed. As you can imagine, that really freaked me out, and it was a long time before I would go to any event like that again. You won’t see me down in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve watching the peach drop. That’s for sure.

      • I remember that Terri…of course. I remember them showing Olympic swimmer Janet Evans being interviewed and one of the bombs went off and she and the reporter jumped out of their skin….like “WTH was that?” It was quite unnerving to even watch. I can only imagine having been there.

      • I was watching at home live with all the windows open to catch the breeze, and really enjoying it all (I’d just seen the Olympic torch arrive and run through Atlanta the day before, right up Mt. Paran Road, so close I could feel the heat from the flame on my face…)

Back to the TV watching — I remember being so proud, and they had this split screen going, where Olympic Park was on one side, and the commentators were in some studio there, talking… when all of a sudden an explosion went off on TV and the live picture on the TV shook.

Some five seconds later, the actual sound wave reached my house and shook the walls a little. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that horrible booming rumbling sound for the rest of my life. Unbelievable. I’d never experienced such a thing before.

I was so angry and hurt after realizing that it WAS a bomb that I could have chewed nails.

Every year 4th of July and New Year’s eve I get a chill when my neighbors want to shoot fireworks in the street. That’s because July 5, 1982 I remember very vividly watching my neighbors house burn down. I was a high schooler at the time. Some neighbor kids were playing with fireworks early that morning (we later found out). It was hot and extremely dry and very windy that day. The house that burned was in a cul-de-sac and the neighbor kids playing with fireworks lived in the house that was adjacent (one house over). The wind just took the firecracker and it touched off on my neighbor’s roof (later determined/made official by the fire dept.). They were all inside, no one got injured….all got out safely. Since, our neighborhood section was new at the time, it was serviced by a volunteer fire department . So by the time they arrived the house was done and had spread to the roof on the next house over. They were spared and only had some roof damage. They didn’t lose their house.

Watching that scene as a teen was very impactful to me. I just thought they lost everything in a matter of minutes. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I broke down and cried my eyes out (something I don’t really do…not like that). Everybody did though, even the neighbor kids responsible (don’t remember what to happened to them). Why this suddenly came to my mind I don’t know, but life is a tricky thing and can change on a dime.

The theather was soo crowded we couldn’t even move. It was horrible! I almost pass out cuz of the heat in the lobby. To this day, I hate that movie, don’t like to be in huge crowds and got scare for life of going into the ocean cuz of the horrible scenes in the darn thing. I tell you, my parents were something else!! They made me watch The Omen too!! Jesus!! I couldn’t sleep for weeks!!

  3. He was very angry back when he initially made his goals. VERY angry, at a world that would turn its back on a kid and watch him and his mom and sister suffer though they were good people. He couldn’t understand what he’d done that was so bad as to warrant no one’s help during some of the absolute worse times of his life. And he decided he would show the world exactly what he was made of and bend it to his will. He went on a quest to not only never be hungry again, but to thrash the world soundly until it cried uncle, until his name deluged every corner of it and the world acknowledged how wrong it had been to do anyone that way.

Which is why JYP told him not long ago, you’ve done it, that little kid has conquered the world, you can stop fighting now, dude.

I don’t think he’ll ever stop, though. He’ll never stop fighting to one-up himself, be better, go farther, accomplish more, to the point of exhaustion. That (and his absolute love of performing, and his great love for us, his fans) is just too much a part of him. He may slow down, eventually, but stop? No. He loves what he does.

I don’t think fame has ever driven JiHoon. Rather, fame was a means to an end. It was the way for him to take care of business and have a stable life, to challenge himself, make a name and perform to his fullest. He resigned himself along the way to accept the good and the bad that came along with that guy named “Rain”, and as he has said out of his mouth, he has no regrets and in fact, feels like he’s in a fantasy with the blessings he has had. 🙂

Now that he’s been in the military for a while, and has literally changed the place while still having to work himself crazy and put up with a whole new set of roadblocks… I wonder what he’ll say about regrets. Probably, if I know him, not much at all.

    /END ramble

Wow, wonder what brought that on. Good grief. LOL!

    • What brought that on is you seeing what I see and everybody sees in this particular set of photos. Instead of the “Create Your Own Caption” I think the posted pics above could be “If Photos Could Talk.” These would say…”Gosh I’m so tired, can I just be to myself for a while?, can I not have my picture taken for just one day at least?” Celebrity or average joe, sometimes what you’re feeling on the inside just shows on your face and through your body language, that is what I see in these photos.

I agree with your assessment completely. Honestly, I don’t think he’ll talk about regrets publicly either. If he ever does, he’ll be old and gray and a grandpa by then.

  4. Hmm, the funny part is he Thought he this would be a time of “rest” for him from the entertainment grind. I guess somebody said……umm…Not. But I feel like Nicole about Hip Song. When he leaves the military he will want to retire that song. I know I would.

Well lets see…what other song could he sing? Let me think…………..

    • I really think he thought of it that way too BiA. I really think he believed he was going to get a break away from the limelight, that he was going to be able to be a somewhat “normal” guy for a change. Wrong. Sigh.

I seriously don’t think people think through how much fame can change their lives. Fame can be really effed up.

      • That’s true. I bet if you were to ask him again today, he would probably say fame wasn’t necessarily the goal. Being able to eat was. Even though he loves to dance. I think for most people, having money to be able to have an easier life is truly the goal….but fame?

I ask myself sometimes do people really Want to be famous? Especially, knowing the hefty price that will surely follow. Very few celebrities I feel sorry for, but I feel for him at times like this.

      • I think he thought he would be picked up by the Air Force, and thus be able to half-promote R2B. But the Army pulled off a brilliant coup, and that was the end of that. :/

  5. This all seems so unfair to me. I know he’s a grown man (and super hard-working) but there is so much on his plate. Oh– and let the man sing something other than “Hip Song”! poor thang! lol

    Like

    • Well, Nicoleh,

Which song do you think he should be singing? Think about it. The majority of his songs are designed for a female audience, which is a bit of problem since the majority of his audiences are now male soldiers. LOL. He even has trouble when he’s doing the Hip Song grind now, actually looks embarrassed whenever he has to do it. He never looked embarrassed doing it for audiences filled with Clouds, but I imagine it’s a little weird to him now that he’s standing in front of guys doing it. LOL.

Seriously, though I think one of the main reasons Rain keeps singing the same thing over and over again relates to the fact that the more songs a performer has to prepare for each performance the harder he has to work. And frankly, he’s working hard enough as it is. That may have even been in the agreement with the military. Okay, if you’re going to keep me on the go all the time, I can only prepare a few songs. It may have been that sort of thing.

      • lol! I keep forgetting he’s performing for male audiences! “Rainism” would be a nice change. I love the choreography. Rain is extremely professional and patient. I am way too emotional, moody and impatient to perform like he does!

        • LOL, yeah.

Well, with Rainism he’s got his “magic stick” and he’s making people’s “body shake.” LOL. So, I dunno about that one either. Although I do think he did sing Rainism a couple of times, but at some point it went by the wayside too. Maybe somebody said something. LOL.

          • lmao! I guess he’s have to get rid of the magic stick reference! Maybe someone did say something! I know he got in a wee bit of trouble because of his “Magic Stick” lyric!

    • I’m sure he is, Nicoleh.

He is having to perform almost every day and when he’s not performing he’s having to travel to somewhere else to get ready to perform. And on top of that he has other military duties–not to mention additional physical and military training.

So, yeah. His schedule is pretty grueling. It’s no wonder he looks tired.
