How well is R2B: Return to Base doing in Atlanta?

~Cloud cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

Well, according to the manager of the AMC Colonial 18, R2B: Return to Base was the theater’s third highest grossing film this past week.  Yes, you heard that right.  In its very first week at the Atlanta box office, R2B: Return to Base landed in the #3 spot!

So, which movies came in at #1 and #2?  At the top of the heap was Obama’s America.  No surprise there, since we’ve got an election coming up soon.  In the number two spot was Joseph Gordon Levitt’s Premium Rush.  And right behind that was R2B:  Return to Base.  In fact, if just 50 more people had seen R2B: Return to Base, then it would have actually beaten Premium Rush and would have taken the second place spot.  It was that close.  So, how about that, Clouds?

Because of its good performance, R2B: Return to Base will remain on the theater’s schedule until at least next Thursday, September 6.  We are delighted.

  4. Wow! Fantastic!
I just got out of the theater after seeing it a second time. Only 6 people at the 7:10 pm showing here. There was no advertising at all here. I’m glad it is doing well in Atlanta!
I enjoyed the movie even more the second time through!

    • Isilvalie,

I was worried about the numbers too, which is one of the reasons I called the theater and spoke to one of their managers. The other was because if it wasn’t playing another week, then me and some other members in my family would have had to go to see it again tonight, because that would have been its last night on the schedule.

During our conversation, the manager kept insisting that R2B was doing VERY well. Finally, I couldn’t stand it anymore and just had to ask for specifics, because to me the numbers looked terrible. LOL.

The manager told me was that attendance was down for ALL movies these days, not just R2B. So, even though there weren’t huge crowds of people flocking to see it, there weren’t huge crowds flocking in to see any of the other movies either. So, it was actually holding its own.

It would be interesting to know how R2B is doing in other cities. Those of you outside of Atlanta, contact your theater and ask for one of the managers, tell them you’re with Cloud USA, one of Rain’s fan clubs, and ask them how the movie is doing compared to the other movies they have on their schedule.

      I am really curious myself.

      • Hi Terri,

I don’t know how it’s doing in Dallas but I checked online and it’s been extended until 9/6. Maybe someone from Dallas can confirm this. I live in Houston. If this true, I plan on driving to Dallas over the holiday weekend.

        • Yay!

Then that means it’s doing well there too, because they wouldn’t extend it if it wasn’t. At least, that is what I was told.

        • Terri, I just spoke with a guest services representative at AMC Grapevine Mills and he stated the film was having a good showing here. He apoligized for not having any posters on display and no promotional items for viewers. I guess we have to remember that it began showing on the weekend before school started in the area and kids ARE in school this week, so maybe business will pick up a bit during the holiday weekend. Talitha, the movie has been extended another week on the website, but please call guest services at 972.539.5909 to verify before you travel.

          • That still irks me a bit…not having the promotional posters on display. See the cynical me would say…”oh yeah, you have them back in the office in the box that the film came in, but decided not to post them.” However, surprise, surprise Clouds and other Rain fans are showing up and seeing this movie multiple times so the “numbers” are better than expected. Now, they probably still won’t display anything since people are coming to the movie regardless. I just don’t see the Entertainment entity(CJ) shipping a movie without any promotional “props” whatsoever being sent too. I may be wrong, he did say corporate made the decision (at the Dallas theater). Oh well….ok, I’ve had my say. Done…………………….

            • Luckily, Atlanta’s theater received a HUGE poster, and it is posted up outside the theater, right along with the rest of the posters. Of course, our contacting the general manager and asking when the poster was going to be up might have had something to do with that.

Then again, maybe not, because all of the managers there have been very kind.

      • Hi Terri,
I just checked Fandango and R2B tickets are available through Sept 6 here, too! (Lynnwood near Seattle)
Yay! I guess I was worried for nothing! Maybe I can go see it again!
