[Cloud USA] Concerning the Petition to the Defense Agency for Information Services.
Dear Clouds:
By now, many of you have probably seen the petition that was written by huhuhuhu on the official Cloud fan site in South Korea.
Everyone probably also knows that Cloud USA wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of firing off a complaint letter to the ROK Army, because we didn’t want to inadvertently make Rain’s situation there (or his workload) worse.
However, after a thorough investigation, we have decided that it is imperative that fans support Rain and all of the Public Relations soldiers by signing this petition. The petition letter will be sent to DEMA by the Cloud Overseas Fan Coordinator on Friday (KST), so if you wish to participate, please sign it right away with your name and country. DEADLINE: Thursday, 6/28 @11am Eastern Standard Time.

One thing we have not changed on is that it is every fan’s personal decision whether or not to put her/his name on the letter. (We mean that. And no one is required to defend themselves or explain unless they simply want to.) But we hope that you give it your support.

I do want to thank every person who contributed to this thread, regardless of which side of the fence you were on, for caring enough about JiHoon’s well-being to participate. It’s heartwarming, really, to see what amazing fans he has.
Sometimes we have to agree to disagree, but isn’t that what makes the world turn? The good thing? We’re (ALL of us) about Rain.

Has anyone really read the petition and realized that Rain’s numerous military duties are NOT the issue, but the slew of non-military stuff from God-knows-where that even Korean citizens think are exploitative?
And BTW, how can these men work as hard as every other soldier to get through the months of military duty, endure just as many day-long/night-long punishments to the body, endure just as many marches, just as many injuries, crawl through just as many forests and ditches, carry just as many pounds of equipment, scrub just as many toilets and whatnot, take just as much direct verbal abuse and HARD training, and still be resented as Mr. I’m So Lucky just because THEY WERE THEN PUT (yeah, I said it that way, don’t believe all the kumbayah you read) where they weren’t being shot at?
Shouldn’t all soldiers be respected for their jobs and how they got there regardless of what that is? Why does EVERY soldier have to be in harm’s way or visibly suffering for people to be satisfied? Shouldn’t we want as many soldiers as possible NOT being shot at? What about the poor soldiers in PR/Entertainment who aren’t celebrities? Are they looked down on too because they’re not standing near the border with a gun? Why do we as human beings act that way, as if everyone needs to go fight but no one needs to mind the store? (Yeah, I know, in a perfect world.)
How many times does Terri have to say we know there may be potential repercussions? Other stars fans’ have been complaining. Other Clouds are already petitioning. Concerned citizens have been complaining. If damage is done, it already has been. This ain’t nothing new to DEMA. They pretty much expect it.

I guess then what many of us don’t understand is, if you admit this will only cause harm and/or will do no good, why you are encouraging people to do it anyway? Many of us who are able to step outside the fandom and look at this effort objectively are also dumbfounded. 😦

Actually, I think I was one of the ones who said we should expect some kind of harm to come Rain’s way. So, I think that’s where fantastikgreen got the idea that we said harm would definitively come his way.
My apologies. My pessimism comes not from anything I “know” will happen, but from my past experiences with the military. Military powers-that-be just love to screw people over.
I should have said “might,” because I don’t really know for sure that any harm will come Rain’s way. Everything might just change for the better. Both are possibilities.

Damn, it’s like that now??………….Well, I will say that all of us here at Cloud USA are hardworking, level-headed, mature ADULTS. We are FULLY capable of making sound decisions. Nobody is jumping up and down screaming like a fangirl on THIS matter. Today I read Several articles about the treatment of soldiers in the South Korean military and my dear, “urgency” is a word that can be used in regard to ALL the soldiers not just Bi. However, the more Aware and dare I say vocal the Public becomes, then “change” is sure to follow. Maybe not on a dime, but it does come. As an African-American goodness knows I KNOW what the hell I’m talking about in this regard. No, I won’t give history lessons here, as there’s a wealth of information about my history and CHANGE. For myself, I say thank you to those who were brave enough to be vocal and Risk harsh treatment so that I can freely render my comments to you via this medium today. I said that to say this, there very well may be some Risk of repercussions towards Bi (as it has already been stated) but one thing’s for sure, NOTHING will happen For the Better if Nothing is said. So, “fandom”…”fangirling”….”Rainism”……ALL have been “checked at the door” in regard to the petition and this post.

Changing the world is never easy, and in the crossfire of change for the common good, there are always casualties. People can say what they want about Rain, but all I know is he has never been one to back down from a fight–not for himself and especially not for others. Rain has also been known to open many many doors across the world for Koreans just like himself. He is a pacesetter. A doer. A world changer. Do you think he is really worried about the potential fallout of this one small petition letter? REALLY?
Clouds, Stephe and I didn’t think up this petition letter ourselves. Nor did we jump on the fanwagon just because we thought it was cool, or because we’re such fracking fan girls that we couldn’t help ourselves. Get real. We have lives, okay? It is this simple. Our support was requested, and after careful consideration we agreed to assist. That is all.

We’re not saying that JiHoon isn’t a grown man strong enough to make it through everything that’s on his plate. Far from that. Y’all know how I feel about that. He’s a survivor. Life would have to pack a lunch in order to put him down for the count. He’s capable, and he can do the military. He doesn’t need mamas wiping his nose for him. But everyone should be defended when it comes to those things that are exploitative, if only by voice, no matter who they are.
I’ve always heard soldiers (and others in difficult positions) say that support is the real fuel that gets them through everything. They don’t want trouble but they don’t cower from it either. They face crap head on. Especially when they see that they are loved.
What I really wish, though? Fans stop flocking to shows that aren’t military-oriented. What a mixed message.

Exactly, I was looking at pics of the DMZ yesterday with soldiers on each side staring each other down. What I didn’t know was this is a serious tourist “attraction” now, complete with a gift shop for buying t-shirts and water bottles, etc. Never mind that you can still get your @ss shot off in a split second. Don’t sneeze at the wrong time in the wrong direction or trip over your shoes laces baby. Now THAT is the ultimate mixed message. (SMILES)

I just went to the Cloud and see that there are 3 pages worth of names on the petition. Which is awesome. Will the 8th Cloud board give a tally of how many names signed on….do you think? It would be interesting to know how many Clouds “jumped into the ring” and to be honest I think he really should have more than the 3 pages of names actually. This man has THOUSANDS of fans………Just Saying.

Keep in mind that this petition has been publicized everywhere and in different languages. The Cloud is Rain’s “official” fan club, which is why it is posted there. The Cloud is the official portal that most of us English-speaking fans use for official Rain news. But that isn’t the only avenue and they are not just including English speakers. They are trying to recruit all of his global fans, which means China, Japan, Taiwan, etc.
I believe the letter has been posted on Cloud Hong Kong and Cloud Japan. Both of those are also official fan clubs. I think it has also been posted on DC Gall and Benamoo as well. Both of those are Korean fan clubs.
In the end, between us all, the numbers should look pretty good, I’m thinking. I’m sure that Heidi will keep some kind of count, because she is pretty organized. I will make sure I ask that question, though, because I’m curious too.

As a resident of and Rain fan in Korea, I feel you need to understand that no good can come of this petition. There is already an enormous amount of public unease and hard feelings toward the very preferential treatment most celebs get in the military. Rain himself has been the target over the years of some rather cutting articles. No matter how hard he is forced to work, Rain has one of the cushiest jobs in the ROK military, and a petition decrying his treatment will be not only laughable to those who receive it, but will be deeply offensive. Moreover, the perceived interference of foreigners in something that is 100% a Korean issue will definitely cause a backlash on Rain both from the military and the Korean public. Please, I beg you, stay out of this issue. I don’t know who your “contacts” are, but they are not getting accurate information. It is impossible that Rain needs help more than those poor guys up in the DMZ. This WILL hurt Rain. As fans I don’t know how we can justify taking any action with such a predictable negative result for every single party involved. 😦

Hi, please enter my name on the petition. Lets hope that this “fan movement” brings positive results. As a new fan its been awesome and I am thankful that he is still able to perform and being thousands of miles away I am still able to watch new videos online (love this so called internet). The voice is a very delicate tool and it needs periods of rest. I am certain that all sorts of considerations have been thought out for the purpose of this petition and I am sure Rain is aware that this is only being done out of love and support for him and I am also sure he does not want to have “special treatment” while he is in the service. Read comments and there are lots of good points everyone makes (pro/con). My first post.

I have read everyones responses, and frankly we all have our fears of backlash for JiHoon. But I feel as long as I’m in this far I need to help ease others of you. First I’d like to say from the start I was surprised to see so much of JiHoon’s military time in the spotlight, I mean this just doesn’t happen! Not only that I have NEVER EVER heard of a soldier being paraded around like a damn sideshow monkey! (sorry JiHoon)
Now with saying that, experience has taught us that no matter it be the Government or armed services if wrong is being done the PEOPLE HAVE A VOICE! Not a few names on a petition are going to change anything but if we stand TOGETHER STRONG! we CAN change things!

Any armed services still has to answer for wrong doing, I’m not going to give a history lesson but google it. Investigations are always being done because of something being done wrong or mistreatment of justice. I’m tired I’ve had a very long week today! Before I finish this I want to pose this to all of you that have not signed or not sure if you should sign.
What if JiHoon loses his voice what if he vocal cords are damaged because an officer has a secret grudge against him. What if he collapses on stage or off stage and God forbid he’s seriously injured.
We are his voice right now.
I know one thing for sure right now, and that is Stephe and Terri know something. And not everything can be shared publicly for protection reasons.
JiHoon and the others need our help NOW! PLEASE, please lets help them.

I have been thinking long and hard about this and I don’t think I will sign my name so please dont get mad at me..I do trust you all in what you are doing here and I will always love and support our Jihoon but I just don’t want to see him get upset about this and get into any type of trouble in teh military. I totally get what u are saying. One thing I’ve learned from u guys is not to jump to conclusions. Another is that u guys try ur hardest to be fair and unbiased and that u always check, double check and triple check ur sources.
When I read this petition elsewhere, I was worried about what all other Clouds would be worried about, which is that he would suffer for it. I also felt that they are overworking him but didn’t know if people were jumping to conclusions or exaggerating, like they often do when idols are concerned.
I know if u guys say u are signing it that u have valid and strong reasons for doing so. Yes I still have qualms but yes I think I personally should sign the petition because I strongly feel that something is off, but also because I trust ur opinions.

Like we said, signing this petition should be a personal choice, because there seriously could be some consequences for Rain. No doubt about it. In fact, consequences are EXPECTED.
So we don’t want everyone to freak out when that happens, and come crying to us asking us why we “made” them sign this petition. All I can say is we truly wouldn’t be pushing this action if we didn’t know our support was needed and WANTED.

God are really so good & so KIND^_^This is what i’m waiting for & i’m always praying for RAIN’S situation inside military training or not only me all his CLOUDS members was praying for his safetiness inside.That’s what i’m really afraid for RAIN,when his time to entered in military service.Well,i know it’s a “calling”of dutie to his country & of course he can’t refused of this bcoz this one of a requirements each of KOREAN man & this is the LAWS for them,he can’t avoid.

I, too, have gone back and forth on this issue. I, of course, wish to support JJH in every way possible, but didn’t want to think that signing this petition would make his situation worse. In the time that I have been on this forum, the thing that has impressed me most has been the level-headed honesty and objectivity you both have had. If something in your investigation made you change your minds about signing it, then I am going to trust that this is the right thing to do. hello ,I think it would be detrimental to their relationship with their boss! he is a soldier of his country ,it is true that are using it too much-I have fear that is bad for your in the army I do not think I should interfere deciciones of an army that is not my country! he’s a smart man and know how to act,this request would be worse than take it the wrong way and take it out of the post where this and bring it to a trench ,if their bosses are annoyed by this request of the clouds where express their ideas about work much rain in the military …not express myself well in English sorry.,not resent my opinion? – I hope the day of his radio program that I believe will say something about ,will pray for the health of rain-Thanks is my opinion

This petition has to be very well written with no demanding tone and extremely politeness. The requests must be reasonable and more like sugestions then demands. Maybe to permite him to rest his voice when needed for beeing able to sing more in the next army shows. Things like that. Hope will be a good idea and won’t harm him.

OQA. I agree with you. I really thought about this today long and hard. What made me come to my conclusion is really living out here in Korea and knowing how the army is. Jihoon says many times in every interview that he does not own his body right now, that is 100% true. Even if RAin wanted to complain, he wouldnt and couldnt never.
#1 it would be an accusation against Korea itself, not just the army because ROK and Korea are one. That would defame his career. Rain loves and respects his country and would put his life on the line to protect it, as it should be. We all know that when Jihoon has felt mistreated he has always retalited with a law suit etc so he stands up for himself all the time.
I personally feel that Jung would rather have his fans step back from this, as this is a situation of him being a Korean native and fulfilling his duties, not being an entertainer right now.
If Rain saw the petition I’d feel he’d be more worried and troubled that it would cause problems other than him thinking “oh yeah my fans are sticking up for me.” A Korean male is suppose to withstand anything and be strong enough to protect his family and country.
I feel his superior would call him into a room and say “private, we need to talk” Rain would walk in and say yes sir. The superior would then say “we have recieved a letter from your fans stating they feel you are being overworked. Do you agree with this Private?”
Rain: “No sir, I am a soldier of the ROK and I have come to serve my country to the best of my ability. I am honored to be able to do so and whatever is asked of me, i will do with no restraint.”
Officer: “I thought so.”
I just remember Rain’s motto:
Endless Effort, Endless Endeavor, Endless Modesty
I have full faith in Jung to fufill his duties, even if tiring, to the best of his ability. I remember his training for NA being 50x more strenous but he withered thorugh, promoted the movie, promoted Korea and gained even more international fans because of it.
I wish the best for Rain and the ROK. I feel we all have our own decisions and I respect that and its wonderful how we all come together for Rain. Our love for his is deep and wide.

Indeed it is young lady and JiHoon will know it now more than ever when he realizes just how many of us did look past our concerns/fears to support him (concerns I still have). A man most of us have never even met, probably never will meet. This to me is the point where if you are an individual of faith, it won’t hurt to send up a prayer or two. That would be a prayer for him that what we are doing will not cause any further hardships to come to him and also a prayer for ourselves as we try the best way we know how to lend our support to an individual we’ve all come to admire and respect. In my book the Almighty is the greatest Force of all.

ohh now I don’t know what I should do, I had decided no to sign by almost the same reasons you have commented before changed your mind, some of these are the fear that this petition can make the things even worse for JiHoon, but now that I read this post I don’t know what is the best to do,because I trust how much you love him, and how you always want the best for him. You don’t published the reason that make you see this from other point of view, and maybe I’m asking for too much, but can I asks you what made you changed your mind and decided to sign the petition? Wow, like so many others, I did not know but too thought it weird that we were seeing him perform so much and I don’t know if it’s just me reading too much into it, but does he look happy? I mean, he’s usually more upbeat when he’s performing but these last performances seem like he’s kinda forcing himself to appear happy, maybe it is just me, if this is going on (and I suspect we may be more right that it is than wrong that it’s not) then the Army is wrong for this, but I’m not surprised. Anything to promote them to the future celebs that are coming in is wrong but all we’re here to do as Clouds is support Jihoon, which I intend to fully do. I read the letter that is intended for the DEMA. I like the idea of it but I’m concerned. Yes, Rain is overloaded and overworked but my concern is that this will impact him in a negative way. Myself being a veteran I know that no CDR wants civilians who are on the outside looking in telling them how to operate. Are the other PR soldiers as overloaded and overworked as Rain? The reason that I’m asking is that If this goes badly, Rain could suffer even more. Now he may become a target for all those jealous, spiteful and vindictive seniors that are younger than him. I believe he said that when he first joined how the younger seniors made him do really crappy jobs (I could be ) because the could. It could possibly get worse for him. I think the letter should address all the PR soldiers that way Rain isn’t single out and become a possible target.
PS: This is just my opinion. I support Rain in every possible way. I just don’t want him to suffer 🙂

YES, the other soldiers are being overworked as well. A discussion of Rain potentially experiencing repercussions was addressed during our investigation. I cannot say that our concerns over that have been relieved, because it is true he may suffer some repercussions.
However, at this point, there is very little concern over any “potential” repercussions.

I’d like to offer some information but I’m not sure you will want to hear it. I ask for your forgiveness in advance, I am not trying to upset anyone.
The South Korean Military (choose whichever branch you like) does not care about the opinions of ANY celebrities fans. I have experienced the exact same situation when my star was in the military. Fans tried to start a petition to express their displeasure in the work schedule of our star. Ultimately, it caused problems for him. Unfortunately, Rain does not currently belong to himself, he belongs to the South Korean Army. If you were going to appeal to a talent manager it would be a different story. You might make a difference in that situation. But we are talking about a military force that defends an entire country and if there were a way to petition them in regard to Rain’s service, I have no doubt he would not even be required to serve. If you want to help him, support him as he fulfills his duty to his country. Be grateful that he is performing all the time and has a busy schedule. He could be forced to crawl in the dirt every day and to sit on a wall every night waiting to be shot off of it. There are many enlisted men who would trade places with him in a heartbeat. I know what it is like to see him tired and not giving the energetic performances that you are accustomed to. Keep in mind, he has so many rules that he must obey. Many of those rules are about his conduct in public. When he is out and about in uniform, he is not even allowed to have his photograph taken. He is required to decline. Some of the fatigue you see is him running a mental checklist making sure he isn’t breaking any rules.
Also keep in mind, he has worked the grueling schedule of a drama star, who sometimes works for days at a time with very little sleep. He has also toured the world and entertained millions. He is so much stronger than you think he is. I understand exactly how all of you feel. The very best thing you can do is send him sweet letters in every language and pray for him. Military service isn’t supposed to be easy. And he has done tougher than this. Stay strong Clouds he will be finished sooner than you think.

I agree with you totally. I had grave concerns about signing this petition myself. I still do.
I am an ex-military officer’s wife and I absolutely understand how the military works. Even as a military wife, I experienced some repercussions myself while my husband was serving. So did my husband.
However, let me say that after our investigation, which included reaching out to our contacts in South Korea, Stephe and I are concerned enough to believe that fan support is not only warranted but urgently necessary–especially from overseas fans. That is all.
And no, you haven’t upset me at all.

My only concern is that a petition will make things worse for him, not better. I’m afraid that you are spinning your wheels and the result will only make everyone more upset than they already are. I have been where you are now and I understand your feelings. You will not find an instance where the South Korean military has ever bent to the wishes or concerns of fans. You would be better served to write letters of concern to him or to organize a fan project to show him your support. Quite often what gives them the most strength is a resounding Aja-Aja FIGHTING!! Focus on the positive aspects of his service. He is fortunate enough to be able to do what he loves AND serve his country at the same time.

I have noticed since the 3rd week of May that Rain has been working non-stop, either on the road or back to base for his radio broadcast. And I thought it’s all in accordance to being in the Conso Train group. But last week, his grueling schedule just caught up with him and you might have noticed his faltered steps when he performed on stage one time and his noticeably hoarse voice during his radio broadcast during the weekend. I think they are taking advantage of Rain. But he’s just obeying orders like a good soldier. I hope they’d take it easy on these poor soldiers or at least give them compensation in the form of furlough. I believe they all need it at this point.

I wonder because of this petition Rain will make a statement to clouds about how he is doing with the work schedule as it is. So oversea cloud think Rain is being used to promote the military? On the one hand it’s cool to see Rain here and there, however I honestly never thought that he would be getting sooo overworked just by these performances/appearances alone…..WHILE in the military….in addition to his military duties. I mean maybe it’s my inexperience of seeing “celebs” in the military…..is this normal for “celebs” in South Korea in the military? To be honest it found it rather odd, I never really expected to see so much of Rain. It’s like he’s doing a concert tour of some sort and serving his country….

At the time of this article, he was doing Friends FM radio show, he was squad leader and he was MC for all Consolatory Train performances as well as performing in the show. Rain’s reply will be exactly the same as this celebrity soldiers. It is a challenge but an honor to fulfill their duty. Please reconsider this petition. It will do more harm than good. Hi, OnceQueenAlways. It’s been so long since we last talked! I’m glad that JunKi is finally back to his life as he should be, out of the military.
Honestly, I’m well aware of what this article and you are saying. We have given this situation deeper thought, consideration, and investigation than I think we’ve ever given to anything else. We felt much the same as you and other fans, so if we’ve suddenly done an “about face”, believe me, you should know it’s for a doggone good reason. That certainly doesn’t mean you have to believe me. As we’ve said all along, this is everyone’s personal choice. Terri and I aren’t here to TELL you what to do. We’re here to advise fans who come to us for that advice, to the best of our knowledge and those of our overseas contacts.
The Korean Clouds and some citizens in Korea are already petitioning and contacting DEMA on not only Rain’s behalf, but the soldiers he works with as well. So if any damage is going to be done, it’s probably already been.
I do believe you care, very much, and I’m glad you posted. I truly mean that.

I think it’s better for Rain to stay doing a perfomance on stage for the military as he doing right now, rather than being in a training camp which I think will be so harsh and tiring, right now he doing what he always do singing and performing even though it’s a free show but I rather seeing him tired for doing show rather than suffering in the army training camp. Dont you guys think that way? At least we all still can see him performing rather than let him stuck in the military. We will miss him so much…

Rain can endure and do it all best of all the assigned work.
He does look happy to do what he does best which is performing on stage.
We ‘CLOUD’ should be always supporting him in everything he does as long as he is happy and fulfill his commitments and duties.
I am concerning that having this petition will back fire on Rain. I also like to see hi busy performing on stage, rather than being busy in the training camp.

Whoa, I had no idea of this. These last few months did make me think “good golly he’s having a ton of shows lately.” When first entering the army I and I believe the rest of us were under the assumption that this would be a rest and recuperating time for him, but it has definitely become the opposite.
