Yesterday (Sunday evening), around the same time that it was after 7 am KST (Monday), Rain had an interview on Armed Forces radio, and we posted the audio clip on our Facebook wall for you at that time. [The limited scope of my student status in Korean only allowed a few words to pop out at me, IF I wasn’t mishearing them—besides the obvious Hanoi, Rain, Jung JiHoon, loyalty, his military ID, and honorific hello, that is: It’s a pleasure to meet you… I agree (with what you just said)… radio… Department of Defense… how… friend… bureau, nation, national… our country… and the… a better choice… Yes, that’s right… it can be reopened, resolved, redone?… Half the battle is being able to spell words properly in Hangeul. If only I could spell better, I wouldn’t feel like I was in First Grade! Argh! But on the other side of the coin, it’s not easy to distinguish exactly which vowels and consonants native speakers are using, either, until you get well used to hearing them. 🙂 ]

Rain : It was a great experience. Almost 100 soldiers of symphonists, traditional musicians, and PR soldiers held two performances in Vietnam. I acted as a compere. Korean culture seemed to be similar to Vietnamese culture.
Actually, I had been in Vietnam to hold a concert 5~6 years before my enlistment, and my Vietnamese fans welcomed me warmly, which made me [feel] great.

Rain : I had never been concerned much about whether to serve in the military because [Koreans are] under obligation to protect the country, young men must go to army. The timing of the decision was just important.
Since I got my foot in the door, I thought I might as well make it big, so I wanted to have a chance to bloom as an actor in USA. Luckily, I seemed to achieve success by the sweat of my brow before my enlistment. So I joined the army magnificently. Already becoming a Pfc, now I feel like I only have a bit more to go till I leave the army.

How do you think you could resolve to become a PR soldier who would go a long way toward promoting the national defense in different ways?

Rain : I’m always trying to show you positive results, and I could give much thought about my future even after my military service. This will stay with us as a happy memory, despite being discharged from the service. And, I’d like to take time out of my busy schedule to study a lot or to acquire a language during my military service.

Thank you for posting!! Well, I did notice that Baby was out of breath with only two songs. I read somewhere that he got a cold at the time so maybe that’s why he was out of breath or maybe he truly is a bit out of shape. That’s understandable, I mean, it takes more of your body to sing and dance than just running. What I really like about the interview is the part were he says that he’s studying business english!! Yesss!! That’s great news!! 😀

Rain always had his dancers, manager, stylists, etc. It must be lonely now by comparison. Ir is admirable that he sees this as an opportunity to express appreciation and develop self-reliance.
I am wondering about his comment that it was a burden to perform after 6-7 months. I worried that the type of training he was doing in the military would make it harder for his body as a dancer. I wonder if this is the cause? If the “burden” is physical or emotional?
One translation correction: “Royalty” should be “Loyalty”.

I’m thinking that is the case. The type of physical training is a lot different than a dancer’s training.
And at least you are in first grade, Stephe. I’m still at the toddler stage, picking up only a word or two here and there and then repeating it back loudly in excitement when I realize I understood it. Just like a two-year-old. LOL.
