[Rain update][fan account] Soldier check: JiHoon Jung wins hearts and earns respect.
— Cloud cover by: Stephe, Managing Editor ^@@^
Please see below, posted on The Cloud English Talk Board today by Cloud huhuhuhu concerning the latest information we now have on JiHoon. We thank her profusely for keeping us all up to speed! 🙂
As is his purpose here on earth, he has already won hearts, raised morale, given inspiration and effected change across the ROK military landscape and South Korea as a whole with his enlistment. (He was the most popular person at assembly… his troop mates in the 5th Division are absolutely stoked to have him with them… The Air Force was even trying to raise their age limit past 28 so as to be the lucky branch to have JiHoon Rain in their ranks as soldier and ambassador…) We didn’t think we could be any prouder of him, but we are!
We heartily support him and all of his troop mates there in the 5th Division. Fighting!

306 Boot Camp and No. 5 Division: The latest information as of 10.17.11
Written by: huhuhuhu @The Cloud / huhuhuhu @raincloudHK
Information and Images compiled by: huhuhuhu
I know many of us are heart broken and worried about our prince (myself included). But it is time we put our heavy hearts behind and give all our positive energy to him. Remember “The Secret”!
Thanks to DC and our resourceful Korean fans who have extracted a lot of information about the base where our prince will be serving his country in the next 21 months. Thanks to 卡机马门 (http://weibo.com/1802043831) who translated them into Chinese, which allows me to translate/summarize in English. Big thanks to all who have worked diligently to provide as much news and information as possible about our prince!
306 Boot Camp – the winner
(http://imnews.imbc.com/player/player_vod_ad1.asp)
According to the MBC news above, our prince was hotly sought by the three Forces. The Air Force even tried to request an exemption on the 28 years old age limit for its drafts. (I would have been very happy indeed if such exemption was granted, but alas…) This was hardly surprising to us. Who could be a better ambassador for the South Korean military forces than our prince?
Many people, who were not fans, were impressed by our prince. They watched the news and the photos and exclaimed that it was an epic. It was like the shooting of a movie. Our prince had once again won the hearts and respect of many people.
There were some interesting tidbits. According to Korean fans, the uniform our prince wore was the new style that came out early in the year. When it first appeared, the review was very bad by the Korean men. However after watching our prince, they changed their opinion and said it looked so cool that they even thought about going back to the army…
While I felt so proud of our prince, I also felt a sharp heart ache looking at his solemn expression, his V shape silhouette… But I will not dwell in negative feelings. I will treasure his transient, subtle smile.
No. 5 Division
On 14 October our prince was chosen as one the representatives to input a number for the random streaming process. A fan attended the assembly and here was her account:
Our prince arrived at the hall at about 8.30 am and sat in the front row on a small stool. His look and his pose were so cool and smart, his clothes and boots were very tidy and clean. But his face almost showed no expression throughout, whereas people surrounding him were all talking cheerfully.
He was clearly the most popular person in the assembly. Whenever he moved, whenever he stood up, the floor clapped their hands and cheered loudly. Our prince turned occasionally to talk to the young men around him, and when they spotted dirt on his beret, they cleaned it for him.
Our prince walked up to input the number when streaming started. He made a mistake the first time. The floor cheered for him to show it was OK. Again our prince showed no expression at all on his face. The floor clapped again when our prince made his salute.
Our prince seemed to have lost some weight.
According to the news, random computer streaming started in 1994. This was the first time such process was open to the media and the public, as through the World Star, the ministry wanted to demonstrate it was a fair and transparent game. The officer being interviewed stressed that it showed famous artist (like our prince) was treated just the same as all the other drafts. There was no privilege whatsoever.
And the result was our prince was assigned to the No. 5 Division.
The headline of this news: Rain being deployed to the Key Troop, “hard” and the most frontline troop.
The No. 5 Division was known to have very harsh conditions and this worried many of us. It seemed that the facilities were old, water supply was not sufficient. Winter temperature could be as low as –30C. As it was close to the border, heavy patrol was required and this was very demanding on the soldiers. No. 5 Division was also known as the wheelchair division because of the hardship, as a soldier may suffer various degrees of physical damage when he left.
It is disheartening reading all these, but I hope we will keep our faith in our prince. We believe in him, and we believe he will overcome all the hardships, just like he has always done. We believe he will bring positive influence to the place too. There were already stories that the soldiers there all looked forward to meeting him, and that hygiene conditions had improved voluntarily.
We could not send food or other supplies during the training period, but we could send letters. The address should be known very soon so let’s keep writing supportive messages to our prince.
One interesting thing is that our prince has gained many “male” fans/supporters. There were almost 1000 messages posted after the news about the streaming was broadcasted. Many claimed to have come from the No. 5 Division as well and they felt proud to have a world star joining them. They even suggested jokingly No. 5 Division should be named “Famous Brand Division”. Many boasted to their counterparts on the Internet that “the world star will be coming from No. 5 Division in future. Do you have a world star in your division?” Some shared their experience and gave positive advice to fans as well as to our prince.
So I am sure our prince will win the hearts of his peers just by being himself. Our best wishes to our prince and all those who have to undergo the hardship at No. 5 Division! Remember to stay positive – our prince will benefit from all the positive energy around him!
I will try to do more translations/summary as they are available.
To our prince – your clouds will be with you, always! Fighting!

There is no doubt in my mind that the best thing that Rain is gonna get from his MS are new friends. Rain is such a lovable person, so humble, positive, caring and down to earth that I am sure his fellow recruits are gonna feel at ease with him after the shock of those first days. Then he’s gonna be one of them, getting on with the program and going thru it, those young men are going to value his leadership and wisdom. I’m sure that they will become close friends cuz they are gonna go thru high and low and that’s fertile ground to cultivate friends for life. Go baby, show them what true friendship is about!!

Girls they me wish I was a dude and serving hard times in the Army. Just think how close they will become with him and how protective they will be with him. I know that after this tour he will be friends with them for life. They will never have to pay to see him perform. lol I know my motive is different from man to man but I still would love the chance to be his friend and have him trust me and be able to tell me his secrets. I don’t HAVE to be his woman, a friend would be just fine with me. A really good friend. (smile) He will be fine I have no worry in my mind about that. We’ll wait and wait and it will be over before we know it. Peace and love to Rain and all my sister clouds.

I get where you’re coming from Gee. A friend is All I could be anyway. (SMILES). You’re right those young guys will be his friends for life, they bond big time. My husband and his friends have been “homies” since boot camp. They were his groomsmen at our wedding. Yep, they keep each other’s secrets too (that’s another conversation). All in all, I think JiHoon will do great, before long he’ll probably be telling them what to do. (SMILES)

As far as Bi is concerned……You GOT THIS Boo!! No doubt in my mind. The caption about him looking like he’s lost weight. I don’t see it…he’s looking scrumptious in all the right places as far as I can tell. Honestly, unless he starts to look like a dinosaur fossil, skeletor or some “ish”, I’m not gonna concern myself with weight fluctuations. I figure that’s to be expected. Kick some butt Honey Love!! (SMILES)
Oh and “Fan BOYS” unite…come on “out of the closet”….it’s OK! Y’all know you WUV him too. (SMILES)

To tell the true, I read this account and my feelings are mixed cuz I feel proud for Rain, of course! I see that he’s gainning the respect of his people and it’s amazing that he’s inspiring others in the military but I still feel worried about so many things. I don’t even want to mention them cuz I wanna stay positive but they are there. I hope and pray for his safe return so he can continue to inspire and gain the respect of his people thru his amazing career, his true
calling where he really shines.

Now you all know why I was freaking out, but I am a very emotional person and depending on the circumstances I react in an emotional way and then take care of business.
And now I’m not thinking about were he is but concentrating on his safety and strength and I know he will be just fine aside from not getting all the food he wants hehehe but seriously JiHoon is such a strong willed man and physically in great shape. So its nothing but good positive vibes coming from me with lots of love and hugs. I’m here for JiHoon always boo always….

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_military_ranks_of_Korea
Hello Clouds!!! Hope that all of you are adjusting well to Bi’s enlistment. Having followed the military service of another star, I have seen how very important it is to the enlisted men to be addressed by their correct rank. Each promotion they receive means a great deal to them and military seniority, regardless of age, is paramount. Also, being sure to address any fan mail to him with his correct rank is important. He may not be the only Jung Ji Hoon on base. (Of course he is the only RAIN 🙂 ) While Bi is in basic training his “rank” is that of recruit. Once he completes basic he will be addresses as Ibyeong (Private). 6 months later he will receive a promotion to Ilbyeong (Private First Class) and the following 6 months will promote to Sangbyeong (Corporal) and finally just prior to his discharge from the army he will promote to Beyongjang (Sargent). After basic training he will receive his first stripe insignia and an additional stripe with each promotion having collected 4 stripes during his mandatory service. I have included a link above so that you might get a better feel for the different military ranks in South Korea. ( the chart also includes North Korean and U.S. military ranks for comparison) Although it would be wonderful if he were a Lance Corporal (because it would mean he was almost done with his military service) he is not there yet. And it seems that the South Korean army does not even use that particular rank designation. I hope this information is helpful to you. I have learned a lot from watching my star go through this. I hope this information is helpful to you. I look forward to the day that Bi is promoted to Beyongjang and all of his Clouds can anticipate his upcoming new projects. Stay strong lovely Clouds!! It will go by more quickly than you will imagine it could. Health and Happiness. Love to All.

Hi, OnceQueenAlways.
We got that title directly from a notice from The Cloud Executive Board, so I don’t know what to tell you. We are looking into it, however, and if someone was mistaken, we’ll make a note so that everyone’s on the same page. Thanks.

Also wanted to be sure that he gets all of his fan mail from his lovely Clouds. For the enlisted star…… fan mail is the air they breathe.

OnceQueenAlways,
All I can say is that the English Notice on The Cloud says that he’s a Lance Corporal. We didn’t make that up. I’ve asked his fan club to clarify, just to make sure though. But I want you to know that if his rank was incorrect, it wasn’t OUR error.
But you know what? The ROK Army DOES have a Lance Corporal rank. Please see: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rok/army-uniform-1.htm. You’ll note that this site doesn’t indicate the different corporal specialist ranks, but it does say they exist. And I think I trust globalsecurity.org more than Wikipedia.
But just in case you don’t believe that, here’s the Korean Wiki page for the ROK Army rankings. You will see Lance Corporal listed there as well. And I trust the Korean Wiki more than the English version myself.

OMG. now it is a bit scary for him to have to be in the bootcap labeled the “wheelchair division.” even if it weren’t jihoon going but someone else, i would still cringe. Of course he’s capable of anything but accidents can and do happen so I will continue to pray for his safety and well being everyday.
Since he still is an entertainer and that is his career, having something bad happen to his legs or joints would be devastating. But I won’t dwell on the bad, I will just keep praying for him and his safe return. Please stay strong Jihoon, Please.
