[clip] Vintage Rain 1998 and 2002: A star launches into the sky.

Behold, the Precious Era.

Before “Rain” was born (the English pronunciation and spelling were not used until 2003, with the release of his Vol. 2 How To Avoid The Sun album)… He was JiHun of FanClub, and he was debut-year 비(Bi) with new album, n001 (first release “Bad Guy”, second release “Instead of Saying Goodbye”). Please enjoy. 🙂

  1. Rain was so adorably cute from the beginning. For the life of me I still cannot understand why anyone thought he was ugly. I know all of those people are still kicking themselves for passing on him.

  2. He looks 13 when he was 16; 16 when he was 20.

  3. Aww, I love seeing clips of young JiHoon before he was Rain. He was so different! But similar at the same time, if that makes any sense, lol. I think he was more shy during interviews and things like that, which is downright adorable! I just want to take him home and cuddle him when he’s like that! Such a cutie!

  4. Awww he was a cutie pie then and still is. How come people found him ugly? Plzz!! He was adorable!! Thanks for posting cuz other than the Baby BAby video these is the only Fan Club live performance I’ve seeing. They were really good!! Is a shame those producers flunk it. But then maybe it was his destiny. He was a star and needed to shine alone!! 😀

  5. Stephe you know your AWESOME right? If not I’m telling YOU!!

JiHun why did he change it? I like it…and of course I have no idea what he was saying but I saw the reference to facial hair hahaha
And personally I love bad guy and the video.

Question the scene with him and JYP. JiHoon had that cool white silk outfit on do you know the performance he did in that outfit? I just love it and would love to find it. He was so graceful and fluent.

    • Aww. Thanks for that, sis. I just want to put a little Rain into your day that’ll do him justice and make you feel good. 🙂

As far as JiHun goes, he hasn’t really changed it, per se… The true Korean spelling is 지훈 (ㅈ=”J” sound, ㅣ= “i” short sound, ㅎ= “h” sound, ㅜ = “u” long sound, ㄴ= “n” sound). But when you spell it in Romanization — Jihun — our U.S. pronunciation sees a short “u” (as in bun) rather than the long “u” (as in tune, or moon) that it really is because there is no “e” on the end. Know what I mean? So I think it was just easier to Romanize it Jihoon so that in English his name is said properly, with a long “u”, so that might be why JYP went that route. JYP was very active in the English-speaking world and spoke perfect English, so he would have been thinking in those terms while marketing Rain, whereas the FanClub people were strictly Korean… just my take on it. The only time I’ve really officially seen the Romanized Jihun spelling was on FanClub merchandise.

I cannot for the life of me remember the performance you’re talking about. Argh! But I’ll be on the lookout for it.
