[Article] Terri’s Take: The Rest of the Story.

— Cloud Cover by Terri :-}, Managing Editor

[Cloud USA 5/16/11] This past Saturday, while checking news alerts for Cloud USA, I ran across the following article: http://www.accessatlanta.com/atlanta-music/rain-talks-music-and-945466.html

The article, by Associated Press (AP) journalist, Min Lee, was written in attempt to cover the events that unfolded at a press conference in Macau that took place just hours before Rain’s Best Concert there.  For those of you who don’t know, the AP is a cooperative organization owned by its contributing companies that include newspapers and broadcasters here in the United States.  All of those entities use staff journalists located all over the world in 243 news bureaus in 120 countries, who contribute material to the AP.  That material is then distributed to not only AP members but also to AP subscribers all over the world.

What that means is that this brief and unassuming-looking article, written by a journalist at a press conference in Macau about an Asian star, was transmitted in just a few hours to hundreds of news outlets all over the United States—no—all over the world.  Yes, it’s true.  The Kansas City Star, The Sun News (Myrtle Beach, SC), The Charlotte Observer, TimesUnion.com, The Boston Globe, The Seattle Times, The Washington Examiner, Seattlepi.com, The Washington Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Forbes.com, CBSNews.com, FoxNews.com and The Canadian Press are just a few of the news outlets that, by the end of the day Saturday, were featuring the headline, “Rain talks music and movies, but not military duty.”

Now, at first glance, one might think that’s terrific.  After all, Rain’s name being shared with people all over the globe is a good thing, right?  Well, yes and no.  On one hand, we usually can’t get anybody to write about Rain on this side of the globe, much less an AP writer.  So, the fact that Rain is being talked about at all is sort of a good thing.  The problem is the way this article was written caused Rain’s overseas fans great sadness, because it made it appear as if Rain was: 1) hiding something,  2) disrespecting the United States, and 3) had completely given up his goal of furthering his career here in the U.S.

To think that such a tiny article could cause such a monumental stir might be a surprise to some, but it wasn’t to me or Stephe.  No, the moment we read it we knew what was coming.  After all, while the press is notorious for stirring up trouble, Rain fans are also notorious for believing every single thing the Media says about Rain.  Why?  We haven’t a clue.  They just do.  So, when the e-mails and comments from dejected fans in the West began to flood the RainIverse and Cloud USA, begging someone to clarify what Rain meant, asking why he would say such things, wondering if what they were reading was really true, we just rolled up our shirtsleeves and started writing.

All I have to say is when are you going to learn, ladies?  Hm?  Hasn’t Rain been saying for months and months that he is making plans to focus on his acting career here in the U.S. when he returns from military service?  Isn’t he represented by Management 360 and the prestigious William Morris Agency here in The States?  Both agencies were well aware that Rain had a mandatory military service coming up when they signed him on.  Do you think they would let him off the hook so easily after getting—what—one measly motion picture out of him?  Besides, the idea that Rain is going to suddenly abandon his carefully laid career plans is ludicrous—no matter what the Media says.

Still, I can’t blame the fans totally, because just as much of the blame for this fiasco belongs to the writer of this piece.  You gotta hand it to the reporter though, who did his/her job and did it well.  The first thing a writer does when working up a story is they look for a hook, a way to spin the story in whatever direction they think will sell it the best.   In this article, the writer chose Rain’s upcoming military duty as his/her hook.  This isn’t a bad thing.  It just is.  A writer has to chose some kind of focus, and so Rain’s upcoming military duty which was about to interrupt his illustrious career for two long years was as good a hook as any.

The hook was made even juicier though when the concert organizers announced that Rain didn’t want to answer questions about his upcoming military duty.  Who knows why?  I sure don’t.  However, if I cared to hazard a guess, it would be that since the press conference had been “delayed 2-1/2 hours” (by whom, I have no idea, but who cares?) and since he had a concert coming up a few hours later, the last thing Rain would want to do would be to waste time talking about his upcoming military service when 1)  he had nothing more to say about it really that he hadn’t already said in every interview everywhere for the past year or so and 2) instead, he could be promoting his concert and the upcoming release of his new film.

Based on » some video feed that we’ve finally gotten our hands on, we now know for sure that the comment the writer made about Rain thinking his entertainment future lay in Asia was pure conjecture on his/her part.  What Rain was actually doing was making a statement about and a case for the popularity worldwide of the Asian entertainment industry in general.  In no way was he intending to make a case against the U.S. entertainment industry or making any specific comment about his future career being anywhere in particular.  In fact, he even said that both Asia and the U.S. were equally important to him.

And I believe him.

So, why don’t you?

yes indeed artist get burned all the time in any country. i didn’t say that to imply a fault happening to him just because he was in the US. i was just sharing that the intent to collaborate with US artise has been made. (correction….it was 3LW in JYP’s studio that day, sorry).
there probably were a lot of folks who were not into Omarion, but that 21cd sold over 8 million copies (and left me wondering did Clouds contribute to that number?? because they thought Rain was on that bonus disk-i know my purchase got counted and i didn’t buy it because of Omarion, i bought it and trashed it because Rain wasn’t on it)

I think it could be interesting if Rain could do a Ji Woo movie but with an american female costar. A female like Megan Fox (She is a good inspiration for Rain. Lol!!!) She could be the client in distress on an Asian city and here comes Ji Woo to the rescue!! Lol!!

I am not saying that Rain is responsible for not having interviews in USA. What I said is that his management in the USA should take care of him when he is visiting here. I don’t know what kind of contract he has with them but I notice that Rain was somewhat alone when he was at the Times Gala. I am just saying. Maybe he wanted
it that way. Is just that’s frustrating that he don’t have the attention he deserves cuz is true that they can’t demand anything from Times but I think that they know people in the media that can interview Rain. They can provide accurate info about him to the media, they can post articles about him in newspapers and they can improve his image thru public relations. I guess that either Rain don’t have a contract that cover
those things or he simply didn’t wanted to start anything in the USA till he comes back from MS.

    • Mari,

I agree totally with you. However, the problem with Rain being publicized right now is he’s about to go into the military. If his U.S. team even wanted to publicize him now, what the heck would they say? That he can’t do any more projects for two years? See him then? How would THAT help? Answer: Not at all.

So, I think what his US management team is doing is laying low until his return from military service. I think once he gets back into business in two years, that is when they will start pushing him full force.

I have no proof of that, but it’s what I would do in their place. So.

  4. Didnt want anyone to think I was ignoring this post. My answer in Stephe’s post was meant to be about both articles.

I do want to say that I so agree about the negative slant the American media seems to want to put on Rain news. It seems mostly demeaning or derogatory, in a way. I’m not talking about NA, because that movie is not going to be just anybody’s cup of tea. Just the way they act like he’s “just” a pop star. Yeah… Just a pop star that can command audiences of thousands and that helps bring in millions of dollars for Korea. Ohhhkay then.

  5. You are right Terry, bad news fly but good news gets stuck. That’s why I think that Rain should take some time to talk with his representatives in the USA and MAKE THEM WORK!!! They are doing absolutely nothing for his career in the USA. When he came to the Times 100 gala, What did they do? NOTHING!!! I expected some
interviews at least but nothing happened. He
was on NY, walking around and it wasn’t showed in any media in the USA. Maybe he wanted it that way, I don’t know really, but if it was, he lost an opportunity to make contact with american fans. Those are the things I can’tunderstand cuz something in thecommunication process is not working wellwhen it comes to fans out of Asia. I knowRain wants to come to the USA to work cuz
he said so but his managment is falling to help
him achieve his goals. He needs to get Justin
    Beiber’s management asap!! Lol!!

    • @Mari….don’t you think it was obvious who Time chose to spotlight? did you purchase the magazine? whose full page pic was center fold? even though the person was #168 on list with a little over 11K votes? they were not interested in featuring Rain, at all (who we know had overall more than 500 hundred thousand votes and was #1)! it was their “red carpet” show and they approved who would do what and how it would be done. and Rain’s US agency could not demand that Rain be interviewed by US media. if Korean news outlets had not been there Rain would not have been interviewed AT ALL. that’s why we didn’t see anything about him on UStv but i did see it on Asian tv. it often amazes me that fans hold Rain accountable for things that happen. but in all fairness he or his agency cannot dictate how another country should handle him. they can compromise about some things, but the final decision belongs to whoever is in charge of the event. he has to function within that country’s policies. but just thinking about Rain’s schedule this year, where is there time for anything new to be added for him here in the US? he doesn’t have any preparation time for new projects. perhaps his US agency is operating from that point of view. two years is not a long time in terms of being away from the public for actors or established singers. so who knows what will happen for him when he finishes his MS service? JB’s management???? for Rain??? why? Rain is Asia’s golden child and the US has already decided who will be pumped up here and who won’t. and right now it’s Beib, GaGa, Beyonce, Britney, Taylor Swift and a few others. here’s what i hope will happen: around the first 3 mounts after Rain’s release from the Military we will start to see announcements coming out from the new Korean International Talent Agency (just formed in Korea that includes JYPE and of which Rain is a signed talent) about the Star of Ninja Assassin’s return to the big screen or first time music release in the US, after a 2 year absence. (that’s just wishful hoping on my part)but it could very well happen. JYPE was brilliant in handling Rain’s career and i feel they will be at the top of their game by the time Rain returns. at least i hope so. i think they know that the US has no intention of mainstreaming big Asian artist and this is why they formed this huge new Talent agency to give Asian talent a vehicle whereby they don’t have struggle against a brick wall to expose their talent. (and again, this is just my own view point)

      • Busybee,

Hear, hear! There are many things to consider whenever you are conducting global business. I work for a global organization, and so I see a lot of the business issues and concerns play out all the time–and not all of them in a positive way.

I was also extremely excited to see a new “global” entertainment agency start up in Asia. I just hope like heck that they have all of their ducks in a row and that the people at the top have the connections they need to make things happen globally. But I wonder. I am pretty sure that such a company will be effective in moving talent across the countries in Asia, but will it help at all here in the United States? I don’t know. I have a feeling that they will, at first at least, concentrate mostly in Asia, and try to get their talent moving in all of the countries there before they try to tackle such a difficult market as the U.S. entertainment industry. However, time and lots of money will tell.

The good news is Americans are very slowly coming to terms with a global society. Of course, it will take many many more years for the U.S. to truly be globally-oriented, but it sure will be a very interesting process to watch, especially for someone like me who would love and truly welcome a truly “global” entertainment industry that works fairly and consistently for all artists across the globe.

        Very exciting stuff, IMHO!

        • my work is global as well Terri, and perhaps this enables both of us to see deeper into this issue.
it really is not as cut and dry as many US fans think. it is just not that simple. and btw Rain has also already collaborated with Omarion with music. what happened? Omarion went on 601 & Park tv show here and promoted his new 21cd. at that appearance he said “there is also a surprise bonus disk, so everyone please go out and pick up your copy”. the bonus disk was Man Up. now me still in my Rain research mode was also reading about this collab as it was announced by JYPE and posted at Soompi. i run out picked up the cd, get home and guess what? NO BONUS DISK!!! i was so pissed, i tossed the thing in the trash. a few days pass and low and behold “Man Up” is leaked onto the Internet!!!! JYPE announces an investigation has been launched to find out who leaked the music (of course JYP wrote the song)…come to find out the person/company who had possession of the master copy was here in the US, and supposedly the bonus was for release in Europe.
see, those kind of back door things that have been taking place all this time when it comes to Rain’s entrance into the US on a grand scale has repeatedly been interfered with by someone???? at that time Omarion was at the top of his game and we would all know Rain for his music by now, if that bonus disk had been released here. not just that collab either. on a doc. by KBS on JYP, Rain visits his NY office and in the studio are 3 of the used to be Cheetah girls. Rain goes into the studio and sings a verse with them doing the chorus (and he sings in english). what ever happened to the song, we’ll never know. so when i read about him collabbing again with someone i ask myself, would i want too? i think not. i am not that trusting after getting burned by someone. and he has been burned here with his music and through the media and even the way they handled his films promos. it’s sad to say, but it is the truth. i just wouldn’t give them another chance to do that to me. so having said all of that, my hope is that Rain will work through this huge merged international talent agency with the protection of people that he knows and trust and that they find a way to get his films and his music into our market.

          • I hate that happened to him, but celebrities get “burned” in their own countries, by their record labels too, all the time. Greed is mother____er in any part of the world and it usually comes at the expense of someone not in a decision making position. I don’t want to offend Omarion fans or Cheetah Girls fans, but they were out there when Nsync was hot and Ricky Martin was hot. Those were the ones that were WAY HUGE. I’m not really an Nsync fan, but you couldn’t pass gas without it blowing on that group because they were everywhere, along with 9 million other boy bands. Personally, I was “Livin La Vida Loca” for a while. If Bi’s “entree” into the U.S. would have been realized through Omarion, I probably would never have known him because Omarion was not on my radar. He didn’t appeal to me. The Cheetah Girls I know about because of Raven Symone and read about the other two girls who were in another singing group 3LW, but that’s all I know about them. If you had kiddies at the time, then you were probably more aware of the Cheetah Girls. However, I couldn’t name one song by either artist if my life depended on it. Janet Jackson was who I was into back then and of course Michael. Hip-Hop was not really my thing, except for the occasional song played on the radio. Funny, I am more open to Hip-Hop now through Bi, than I ever really have been prior to now. I came to know Bi through his acting first anyway, so if he chooses not to collaborate musically it’s ok. Hopefully, his stint in the military will give him “even thicker” skin than he already has now, cause it WILL BE a tough row to hoe over here, no matter what avenue he decides to go down first.

      • Well misunderstanding article be damned. I will go back to what we all heard in the beginning. Bi stating he wanted come here after MS. IF this is still the case, then I am sure he has weighed or is weighing what he will be up against trying to “crack this Walnut.” He must surely know that even though as Busybee said he is Asia’s golden child, he will be like a “newborn child” in the U.S. industry and will have to operate like a newcomer (To A Degree). His Asian megastar status will open many, many doors but he will still have to prove himself like his beginning years in Asia. How he takes that depends on Ego……we all have one, even Sweet Bi. If he’s willing to relinquish some of that megastar “shine” and enter into collaborations over here, maybe the process of recognizing him won’t be as long as we think. He should do what Santana did. Santana was Hot back in the 70s from what I remember, then he revitalized his career on a mainstream level in recent years, when he collaborated with the most popular artists that were out at the time (Rob Thomas, Michelle Branch, Wyclef Jean etc.). He was everywhere. Picked up some grammys in the process. If Bi does music here, I think he should “hook up” with who’s hot now and HEAVEN FORBID…….not Justin Beiber (sorry Beiber fans). He’s cute and all, but too “bubblegum.” (JMO)

As far as movies, he should try to do ensemble movies FIRST, then seek starring roles after some ensemble success. The one I have in mind is Fast Five. Could you not have seen Sexy, Hotter Than a Firecracker Bi with the rest of THOSE Hotties?!…….DWAYNE!!…..MERCY!!! He could also do something funny like The Hangover……that is such a guy’s movie, but it was SO damn funny to me, I’m still cracking up. The Hangover part 2 is set guess where?…..THAILAND! Bi would be perfect for these types of movies (IMO). Hopefully these movie franchises will be continuing on past Bi’s MS. (**Just Thinking Out Loud….Bi’s Management!**)

        • BiAlamode,

I have no doubt that Rain is perfectly willing to collaborate with anyone he needs to, especially in movies. His first role in U.S films was a supporting role in Speed Racer. I’m pretty sure he didn’t make a lot of money playing Taejo. We also know that he considered a role in The Expendables, Sly Stallone’s movie, but the timing didn’t work out. That would have been a pretty minor role as well. The only reason he actually landed a starring role the second time out the gate (in Ninja Assassin) was because he caught the eye of some producers who could see his obvious talent and who really wanted to see if he could carry a lead role.

It was good timing, because the producers already had this little project in their head, but they just didn’t have any star that they thought could actually carry the part. And then they discovered Rain. Finding out about Rain ensured they actually had a star who they thought could do their vision justice. And Rain did. He actually carried the film very well.

Unfortunately, the movie was one of those movies that was made for a specific audience–people who love highly stylized and ninja movies (or for people who love Rain). Honestly, it was a very off-the-wall project, but then Rain wouldn’t have known that. He did a great job, however, and so I’m sure the work that he has already done will help him get even more work here once his military service is done–and if he wants it, of course.

Hangover Part 2 in Thailand? ROFL.

As far as the writer being a Rain hater, that is a possibility, but it is more likely that the writer was simply trying to create hype so that his/her article got more play. That’s very common in the writing field. I’ve seen it more times than I care to admit.

It’s unfortunate that negative news gets more attention than positive, but it does.

  10. i like this Terri….thanks for clearing it up for some fans.

you know, i’ve been following Rain since early 2005 and what i am most sad about is that fans don’t seek out other sites such as this one and others to really find out if what they read in the press is in fact true. especially since they’ve read previous interviews directly from Rain on any number of topics. with this particular article, i noticed that many fans missed “Rain turned down a request to be interviewed by the Associated Press”. just that sentence alone was saying that this is not what HE said. i am saddened too, by the way Rain is often covered by the US media….over the years fans have had to correct, inform, chastise and often question why they seem to go out of their way to post less then correct info. when it comes to him and his career. i’m wondering what or who is behind this method when it comes to reporting on him and what their motive might be, but i am on constant alert to see what happens for him here in the US. i hate to say this, but if Rain doesn’t soon make his mark here there’s no telling what this media will do to his image among the US population. and let’s face it this media can and will either build you up or tear you down. so far, other than MTV, they have been tearing down his image. from TMZ, The Hawaii National, People Mag., Time 100, all of the US reviewers for NA and some others. these are just some where i and many other fans have posted for Rain to clear up some negative article. this in fact is what angers me the most because over time you see it happening over and over again to him. anyway, i just wanted to thanks you for your time and effort. i referred you site to others and will continue doing so. your work really help them understand.

You’re very welcome. And thank you for your kind words. Cloud USA is just trying to do our best to share what we believe to be the truth about this amazing star and to make sure that he is not treated unfairly by anyone.

The American Media can be vicious, unforgiving and stupid. What bothers me the most is when writers skew the facts and still call themselves journalists. And it is happening more and more every day.

As a writer, that kind of thing irritates me, no matter what the subject is. Journalists are supposed to report the facts and only the facts of the subject they are writing about. They are not editors or fiction writers. They are not supposed to give their opinion as to what they think someone thought. They are only supposed to report what they saw and heard. Period.

It would be nice if journalists everywhere would remember their job and stick to it.

That being said, we also don’t know in what language this article was originally written. Was it Chinese? If so, the there’s the translation issue to factor in the equation. Articles written in one language hardly ever translate well into another. So, great care has to be taken by the translator to use exactly the right word. So, some sloppy translation could also have been involved.

But I doubt we’ll ever know, really. All we can do is try to do whatever we can to help.

  12. Personally, I found nothing Rain said in the video to be offensive. I even did not find it offensive with what the articles said he said. What I interpreted he was saying was that he is proud of Asia’s growth in the music and movie areas. That Asia is now equal to the US. Whats wrong with being proud of your country. He said that Asia and the US were both equally important to him. He was just giving a proud shout out to Asia and saying he still wants to work in Asia and the US. Nothing he sais was a put down to US. I say to all US fans think about it why would Rain have said countless times that he wants to concentrate on working in the US after his MS. Then turn around and put the US down. This makes know sense at all.

You were lucky to have seen the video first. Many like myself did not see the video first, what we saw was a statement attributed to Bi in print. As Stephe stated in her take, words in print can take on a life all their own. Quite honestly, it did affect me. In print the words seemed disrespectful. When, you don’t know someone personally, it’s kind of hard to say with absolute certainty what that person will or won’t say. Now the Ji-Hoon that we have all come to love and respect would never have come off so disrespectful, as far as we know. There again, As Far As We Know. As usual, Terri and Stephe have put this “bump in the road” into the proper perspective. So all is well in Cloud Land, at least as far as I’m concerned. (SMILES)

I too have read things printed and was affected by it and others were not. I actually read the article first before I looked at the video. And I didnot find what was printed to be offensive. Just like you I donot know Rain personally. I only know of the image that Rain let me see. Rain is human and not perfect. So Rain could be cable of saying such offensive things. But for me just looking at the actual words that were used in the statement I just was not offended by it. I just thought he was expressing how proud he was of Asia in thier growth in the movie and music industry. That he felt that Asia was equal to the US now. I donot know the true stats on this comparison. So to me it is just his opinion. But like I said I can see how people could of been offended by what was stated in the article. I too am glad that Terri and Stephe have shed light on this matter and all is well, at least for me.

        • @Flower,

Point taken my dear! We all “love on” Ji-Hoon and want to believe all that’s good about him. That’s why he generates such “passionate” reactions from us…..on a lot of levels. I’m my father’s daughter and when I feel strongly about something it just pours out of me, I don’t know how to contain my opinion sometimes, forgive me. But it’s cool! (SMILES)

    • @flower…you know i agree with you. after all Rain is Asian. and Asians are who bolstered his career. by the time we here in the US became aware of him he was already crazy popular in the East(which is what made Hollywood take notice), and had already performed in different States from Washington,Chicago and NY. he had visited NY, ATL, LA all without many of us even having a clue. when i think back on just how long he has been in and out of the US even before i knew anything about him i feel as if i came late in the game. i didn’t get offended when reading the Washington Post. actually once i saw his pics that had Associated Press watermarked across them my antenna jumped up because i looked for a write up from them. it is true as Terri points out concerning language translations and another of my pet peeves about reporters is that when they are going to interview a foreigner the least they can do is get someone who speaks the frikin language. i recently read a post where someone thinks that Rain turning down the interview was a bad idea. however, with the way our press has treated him over the years (with the most recent being the Time magazine), i can understand his refusal. they have not been kind at all to Rain. the other spotlight in this article for me was naming a person who they say traveled with 60 other people and the writer called them a “study group.” how insensitive was that? that group was Cloud members and the paper wouldn’t even recognized that fact. they write an article with part truths about Rain and all through they make it sound like he’s done something wrong because he didn’t want to talk about his MS. and why should he talk about his MS with a US reporter??? that is his business and that of his country. so that whole “Rain refused to talk about his MS” was a display of utter stupidity. now i read somewhere that Rain has 9 pieces of music that has been done for Japan, yet it is always reported that he only has one.????? never do they print that this is a person who sings in four different languages and who has written and produced his own music or who choreographs his own dances. it becomes frustrating to me, so i can imagine how Rain must feel and have felt reading all those negative and distorted articles. why should he be overly kind to US media? they haven’t been so with him. although he didn’t say what they wrote, if he does decided to pursue his career in Asia, i’ll still be his fan because that’s where he was when i first started following him and that’s where the changes are taking place and that is a financial fact. the man has got to live, he has the responsibility of taking care of his sister (until she gets married)his father and soon his intimate family, so he’ll be wise to follow the money.

      • Thank you for seeing my point of view. You made some valid points in what you said above. Somethings I did not even focus on or know. So thanks for pointing those things out. I totally agree and will do the following you said:

“although he didn’t say what they wrote, if he does decided to pursue his career in Asia, i’ll still be his fan because that’s where he was when i first started following him and that’s where the changes are taking place and that is a financial fact. the man has got to live, he has the responsibility of taking care of his sister (until she gets married)his father and soon his intimate family, so he’ll be wise to follow the money.”

One thing I do want to say to you all is please, don’t get us wrong.

Doubt can save your butt a lot of the time. It’s natural, and a good thing. It’s not wrong to let yourself feel doubt when it creeps up, even about Rain (he is human and and subject to wrong choices like the rest of us); rather, it’s what you do with the doubt.

There were fans out there who sounded like they would actually jump off of something high. They were so despondent that it was kind of scary.

Of course, they could have just been talking, or just drama queens. But you never know.

  14. In all honesty, the moment I read “refused” an interview I knew this had been written with a slant. It’s problematic that all the online places like allkpop, etc. ran it as is without exploring if what was reported was the actual case but that is the nature of their business. Twisting his words won’t get them an interview on down the line either 😉

    • I know that’s right! 🙂

I was like, so what did you DO to get “refused”, huh? Show your behind? Tell Rain’s management you were going to ask whatever the heck you wanted? Huh?

    • Bingo, Taki!

Those were exactly my thoughts too when I read that. I was like, what did you DO AP to piss Rain and his camp off so badly that they refused an interview with you?

Enquiring minds would LOVE to know. LOL.

  16. Thank you Terri, I am glad to hear your take on this article. But your question….”Why don’t you (the individual) believe him?” I only speak for myself (as always). I only know Ji-Hoon by videos, pictures, a couple of U.S. movies and the two K-dramas I have seen. I’ve only seen him on Korean tv variety shows.

    1) Quite simply I don’t really Know him, know him. So he could very well have said these things. He’s an individual with every right to say and think how he feels.

    2) What “stuck in my craw” wasn’t so much what was said, but the TONE in which it was stated. As an American it felt like a big ole whack across the face. After all that TIME 100 voting and also adding to his numbers at The Cloud Official fan site. To put it in perspective from my standpoint. If anybody has seen the 70s original version of the movie Carrie, well this article gave me the feeling Carrie felt after that pig blood got dumped on her head.

    3) Ji-Hoon speaks English now and quite well from what I’ve heard. It’s now time for Ji-Hoon to segue into this market by doing some INTERVIEWS in English. I don’t give a crap where. Do a small interview on a blog….Hmmm (any particular one come to mind). Celebs need to Take The Time sometimes to see what’s going on with the “business” side of things more often than they do. The drudgery that is paperwork and number crunching. This way when there’s a big “uproar” with your name attached to it, you can make a fully informed response. I still don’t think he gets Just How Many U.S. and Western fans voted him to the #1 spot on that TIME 100 poll, along with his Asian fans. I really don’t.

I realize when statements, interviews, articles are made in foreign countries and distributed to many different news outlets the tone and intent may get “lost in translation” but my confusion, then disappointment, then irritation came in the fact that this didn’t sound like the Ji-Hoon I had come to know. Surely he would not “court” us as a market source and then insult us a few weeks later. People who know me, know that I will drop you with the quickness of a lightening strike if I feel like I’m being disrespected.

I’M NOT READY TO LET YOU GO BABY LOVE!!! But this type of confusion/misunderstanding is what happens when people speak on your behalf.
