Rain to make it rain

The 29-year-old South Korean pop star Rain will start his mandatory two-year military service sometime later this year, and plans to go out in a big way.

The singer is about to launch a large-scale Asian tour and, in addition to the usual laser effects, he’ll be making good on his name by actually providing precipitation during his concerts.

A statement from Singapore concert promoter Faith and D revealed that Rain’s concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium May 22 will feature an actual rain storm with real water.

The storm apparently lasts for two-and-a-half minutes and uses 1,000 liters of water, which is collected and recycled.

Such production values means the number of seats available will be less than they normally would be at the stadium, but Faith and D say that ticket prices will not be affected. In fact, the top ticket price will be about one-third that of the top ticket price for the last Rain performance in Singapore.

At a press conference in Pattaya to promote the Thailand leg of the tour, Rain said that he would promote “green themes” at all the cities he plays.

“This upcoming concert revolves around two concepts,” he said, according to AsiaOne News, “Love Nature, which is about how to save the world, and Latest Show, a spectacle that no fans have seen before.”

He added that some of the proceeds from the tour would go to help victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

  5. So the audience gets wet? Anyway I like the idea of the green theme. If it was an outdoor concert and its hot, getting wet would be nice.
